Really didn't have the best experiance here, the bar man was a little grumpy when I was questioning about a couple of my I guess I would say unusual allergies. He really didn't seem to want to go and check the ingredients in a couple of dishes for me. To the point where I didn't feel safe to eat there, we found another little local pub who went above and beyond, even bringing out a purple folder and they were able to tell.me the exact ingredients in any dish within seconds so it's not difficult. We have been several times to the dairymans before and always enjoyed it and will try again, I just feel it's gone a little downhill and more understanding of specifically more not so common allergies would be greatly appreciated

Dined here three times while visiting the Island. An excellent pub serving huge portions of excellent food, all at reasonable prices. The Sunday roast was amazing. Very quick and friendly service. Would have loved to try one or two of the beers but, sadly, I was driving. We will certainly be back next time we are on the island.

We’ve eaten here plenty of times here & it’s been lovely but today it wasn’t half as good, I had the jacket potato with cheese & my husband had the tagliatelle Alfredo, neither meal was as good as normal, I don’t know if this was because we ate at 4pm so the main chef wasn’t in, also the choice of music was very depressing it sounded like 40’s music, I’m sure they must have something a bit more upbeat.

Popped in on our way back to our B&B for an early tea. We'd missed all the shops at the craft village as they were closed, but we managed to find this wonderful pub tucked away at the back. What a find! We struggled to choose our meals as the menu is so vast - then there are additional items on the specials board too! Our food was served quickly & was piping hot. They were huge portions & we simply couldn't finish our meals, albeit they were delicious. Service was quick & pleasant. Would highly recommend this pub/restaurant & will definitely visit again if ever we're in the area.

Called here last week for lunch. Clearly a very popular place to eat. We were very disappointed with the attitude of a member of the bar staff. My wife asked whether they would check if two of the dishes contained onions as she is allergic to them. He simply said ‘Everything’s got onions in them!’ A more sympathetic approach would have been better and a quick check with the kitchen. Consequently we won’t be returning.

Called in here today for lunch. When we arrived we were informed by the guy on the door there were no tables available inside, so had to opt for a table outside. He helped us find a suitable table outside and put the umbrella up (it was looking like rain at the time). A few minutes later he came out and told us there was a table now available inside, so we opted for that one. Once inside, we looked at the menu which was really extensive with great choices and also with the option of lighter bites too. The food was excellent, good quality, arrived promptly, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff throughout were helpful, welcoming, efficient, and so very friendly. Can thoroughly recommend this place whether for couples or families. Thank you so much! We loved our visit and will definitely be returning!

What can we say? We never visit a place twice on holiday with the idea we want to try lots of new places but we came the 1st day of our holiday and had to come back on last day it was so good. The staff were wonderful welcoming and efficient and the food was out of this world. Kids dinners were huge and a mssive hit with my little ones and my partner and I loved the flatbread and home made pie. We had been recommended other places on the island which didnt live up to the hype this is a bit of a hidden gem that I would recommend to anyone!

Was expecting so much more from this great looking pub and its lovely location. The food was average at best. On taking a friend for Sunday lunch, I'd expected both of us, seeing as someone had recommended we have a meal there before my friend headed back home to where we both live in a small town north of Inverness. Originally, I'd intended taking him to the Chequers at Rookley, where I'd been several times over the years my niece has lived on the island. However, after being shown to the table I'd booked, we both sat down, expecting that someone would come to take our order, seeing that we are both disabled OAPs with mobility plus other medical issues. It was after some 15 minutes that I spotted a notice that informed diners that they'd to go to the bar to place their order. Using crutches when there are a large number of people gathered around a bar where the food orders are also dealt with brings out the worst in some people who seem to think that disabled OAPs are there to hinder them getting their drinks. Had I not known that on booking a table I would have to pay a table charge had me and my friend then decided to find somewhere else to have our meal, so placed our order and carried our drinks through the crowd of people back to our table, though being jostled during the way back saw me having some of the soft drink on my shirt and trousers. When our meals arrived, there was a delay until the Vegetables arrived in a serving dish, but as I'd decided to have Lamb, I'd to ask the young male waiter if there was any mint sauce. A few minutes later, he came back and plonked it on the table, as if I'd caused him extraordinary work. As we both had some of the Vegetables it was noticed that slices of cucumber were also in the Small bowl, along with Sugar Snap Peas, Baton Carrots, Cauliflower Florets with a white sauce already on them, plus Peas. The baton carrots had been over boiled, as they broke trying to lift them onto the plates, and on trying the Sugar Snap Peas it was found that the ends hadn't been trimmed, and even then they were quite stringy and felt as if nylon thread had been put into their DNA. We had intended having one of the Desserts, but decided that we'd be better off getting some ice cream from a shop on the way back to my niece's, seeing as she had gone to her families home on the mainland, so as to Dog Sit whilst they were away on holiday. It was a very disappointing meal, and as I had for a number of years been a Mystery Guest/Customer, for the NOP organisation, where I carried out covert hotel and restaurant visits, plus various large concerns such as Supermarkets, Car Dealerships like Chrysler and Ford , and well known electrical outlets that deal with household items, PCs. Televisions etc, plus Banks etc, all my reports were given a very high mark, as I was also, on occasions, and unknown to me, being also watched by another agent from a different area, who would later verify my reports as being accurate and truthfull. Will I ever go for another meal at this establishment is something that is doubtful, so I can only hope that some of the points raised are dealt with, and that future diners have a better experience than both my friend and i happened to have.

4 members of staff ignored us on arrival after we phoned to book and were told to just drop in without reservation. The app requested to order from didn’t work and the food was very basic and so much was wasted by all customers due to massive portions. Also, they clearly don’t like children as there are rule signs about them and other discrepancies on every spare bit of wall. It was recommended to us but we really would not recommend. I’m sure it’s fine for a pint or a sandwich and I will say it was reasonably priced but I would not recommend for a decent meal or mildly attentive service. ***Edit from later in the evening. The Gluten Free meal ordered wasn’t free of Gluten. My companion had a reaction to the meal and didn’t inform me until later. That was the biggest red flag, as the kitchen can’t be trusted with allergies or intolerances. (She hadn’t eaten anything else at all).

Went here with my family for father's day. If you like to be spoken to rudely and eat terrible food then this is the place for you. We ordered 5 roasts and be warned the beef is the only one that comes with a Yorkshire pudding. If you want one with any of the other roasts than you have to pay £1.50 for each one on top of the price you already pay for a roast. This isn't made clear so i asked the lady at the bar if I could have them as soon as because our food had already been brought over and she informed me very rudely that "it will be done when it's done". What a lovely way to speak to your customers. Maybe ask for a refund from the charm school you attended. Our food was serviced to us cold. The gravey was like nats piss and the vegetables were raw. When we told the manager she said people's preferences were all different with vegetables but I'm pretty certain that everyone would prefer them cooked! They wouldn't give us any refund but offered us free desserts. Me and my mum went for the chocolates roulade but if what we were given was a roulade, than my bums a banjo. God knows what it was, but it was as dry as a flip flop. This place was terrible. Avoid at all costs.

The veg was not over cooked though I would have welcomed a bit more. The staff were all great and the service excellent, it seems to be on the up.

The bargemans was always a place to go for a great pub meal with epic portions. The last 2 times I've been I've ended up with a sicky tummy the day after. Then the final visit I tried a carbonara and it was like a mushroom and white wine pasta- definitely nothing carbonara about it. For the price, you can get much better elsewhere. We've made it a rule now to visit for drinks on doggy walks, but we won't eat here again until the food improves. Staff are wonderful though and it's a great spot for drinks in the summertime next to the river.
