Oggies in Isle of Wight

Second time this year visiting this establishment and will not be back lovely fish but batter not cooked properly the chips were a bit hit n miss some soft others hard feed the pigeons most of batter n the chips .

Best chip shop in Newport has some really good deals, the chips are well done and the fish is tasty. Also does burgers and pies. The best thing is the battered mars bar.

a fine place to get fish and chips, with lots of options and add ons. personally, the food is a bit too on the oily/greasy side for me.

Normally nice fish and chips but on this occasion the haddock was not cooked fully, had some raw fish inside and uncooked flour, although the batter was crispy: suspect the fish was frozen before use.

Great value, excellent quality cod and chips. Fresh flakey cod, tasty batter and perfect golden chips 10/10. Only cost about £16 for two of us. Alfresco dining opposite, highly recommended, looking forward to next time

Ordered from home for a delivery, it was at the door in under 20 mins . It was hot , fresh and the portion size was more than enough. I ordered the family meal deal which consists of 4 small cod , 4 sausages and 2 large chips . Was excellent value for money and fed 2 adults and 3 children easily . Quality of the food was excellent. Also ordered a children’s meal for my youngest as he wanted something different , the portion was more than enough and very good value . Fed all of us for under £22 , included was the delivery price .

Just what I expected from a fish and chip shop. Hearty portions of fried fish and chips. Chips were not exactly crisp. Sitting next to the church made for a relaxing lunch. Service was prompt and kind.

Great chippy used by locals, got here late afternoon, before the normal time for rush, there were people queued ! No dramas though, both fish and chips cooked fresh in front of me. Served expertly in a flash and teatime sorted in less than 15 mins. Great job oggies !!

Seems it's difficult to find seaside fish and chip shops on the IOW. After a day out at The Needles, we found Oggie's via Google maps on our way back to Cowes and it did not disappoint. The haddock and chips were both freshly cooked; hot, delicious, nice crispy batter and no grease in sight. The chaps behind the counter were very friendly and so kind and helpful to a customer on a mobility scooter. It was lovely to sit on the tables near the church to enjoy our food.

Nice people run this chip shop very chatty is a good customer service asking if you need any thing and helpful for other questions. Good portions to take away good price 👍🏻👍🏻

Always a nice place to order a takeaway & sit in the square & enjoy it with the exception of the filthy seagulls flying around as well as the pigeons.A kestrel needs to be brought in to dispose of them.

We ordered cod and chips for two it’s normally great from here , sadly it was soggy cod and not appetising at all ! . We left the soggy batter which to be honest I prefer the batter normally than the cod but it was just awful.

Last night of our mini break to IOW. After a strenuous day walking Carisbrooke Castle and Steephill Cove (both great but lots of steps) our dinner booking was cancelled at a pub in Shalfleet (no chef), 2nd option Italian next to hotel not doing takeaway (we have a dog in tow so limited) We were feeling tired and hungry... Stopped at nearest fish and chip shop. If not local you never know what it's going to be like. Turned out the best F&C's had in a long time. Freshly cooked and was great. Staff happy and chatty too. A big thumbs up from us 👍 Thanks guys!

Friendly service and great value for a fishcake, chips and can £3.40! All freshly cooked and chips were lovely, fishcake tasty too. Only small issue was can was not cold.

I went to Oggies for fish and chips based on the reasonable reviews on TA. After very slow service, my large cod and medium chips were ready. Well, they were greasy, mainly batter to the fish, the fish was pretty tasteless and the chips were soggy. Incidentally, I did ask for salt and vinegar but an application of this wasn't apparent - unless they had soaked into the grease and couldn't be tasted. This is not the Great British food which should be delivered. Very poor and needless to say, there won't be a return visit.

Visiting Newport we came across this little gem. Ordered cod and chips. The young man serving was very friendly and polite, an absolute asset to the business. We sat outside in the square. He called us when the food was ready. I have to say one of the best fish and chips we have had. Cooked to perfection, batter to die for. Would not hesitate to come back when we visit the island again. Well done

This godly burger is literally better than ANYTHING i've ever tasted, like jesus christ the burger is AMAZINGGGGGGGGG. Would recommed 20/10 times!

We had a 'seniors' fish and chips deal. Excellent value and perfectly big-enough.The food was freshly cooked and hot; fish batter deliciously crisp.We visited during the pandemic. They were covid aware and provided plenty of spaced seating outside (in a public area), instead of opening their seated restaurant area

We ordered from Oggie’s last night using the app and chose delivery (£3). It arrived within 30 minutes. The food was hot and we were really happy with everything. Decent portion sizes without being too much, which has been an issue with other establishments and is a waste because we can’t manage it all. The kids meals were also a good size and we felt everything was a reasonable price.

Just had our first takeaway from you,we were told it would be about 40minutes and the food arrived within 40minutes, pipeing hot and very good chips, great service from beginning to end.

Ordered online via app easy to order and when collected it was a small wait for the best grub from a takeaway ever, chips yum, sausages yum, burgers yum, my cod- delicious white flakey beast of a portion. Highly recommend. The outside entertainment was a bonus (lol) thank you

Saw a man with chips in paper whilst driving round Newport (IOW), so swiftly went round the block, found on street parking, very reasonable, then found Oggies. Chips were smashing, fish was freshly cooked to order, really pleasant young man serving. Best chips I've tasted in a long while.

Wanted a bite of lunch, and as we drove through Newport, saw a man eating fish chips out of the paper. Just the thing when you’re near the seaside. Firstly I found the folks working here very pleasant and helpful but that's where the five star awards end. A cup of tea costing £1.40 literally tasted like dish water. There is a one word adjective that springs to mind which would be more appropriate but I shall play safe! My wife and I ordered Jumbo Cod and chips but the chips were not cooked and we just cannot understand the five star reviews. Check out Stotesburys Fish & Chips just around the corner ... now that's what I class as Fish & Chips!
