During our stay in Sidmouth, this was our stop of choice for an afternoon coffee and cake. Suffice to say that the locally roasted coffee was really good. They have a great choice of loose leaf tea options as well as really good cake. Scones looked scrumptious. Service was friendly and helpful. They make their own Gins and Rums and also sell some lovely biscuits chutneys cider etc etc. Yes, we do recommend.

Found this lovely little independent café whilst visiting Sidmouth for the day. Food was delicious ( I highly recommend the fresh crab sandwich!) and the coffee was good too. Left with a bottle of the rhubarb gin that they distill on the premises ( other gins flavours are available too!). Relaxing and comfortable, will definitely visit again when we’re next in Sidmouth 😁

We were looking for place where we could get a cup of tea and a cake and fit five people and three dogs in. This fairly small place looked promising for the food but seemed to present a challenge on space however a speculative enquiry was met with enthusiastic exhortations to enter. We were seated at the only table that could accommodate us but actually without being crowded. My daughter was keen to have a scone at some point in the holiday but had been frustrated by all previous locations only offering the fruited variety. She was delighted that three varieties of home baked scones were on offer including plain, fruited and cheese. Devon cream teas in two varieties of scones were ordered plus another with cappuccino cake. There was a wide variety of teas on offer, all loose leaf, and we all opted for Assam. The tea was served with an eclectic mix of vintage tea cups, no two the same, and very generous portions of strawberry jam and clotted cream which we were assured would be topped up if needed, which seemed unlikely. The scones arrived nicely warm, well risen and of generous size. The scones were simply delicious, the best that most of us could recall eating in many years of sampling in various places, including many in the county immediately to the west. There was a brief debate about whether the cream was to be applied in the Devon style or the Cornish style but in deference to our location we applied the cream first. Not a word of criticism was to be heard and, although not needed, the final act of great service was the delivery of some diced chicken for the dogs. If you are ever looking for a decent cup of tea in Sidmouth with a good choice of cakery served by happy staff, I couldn’t recommend the Dairy Shop more highly.

We visited back in March and the cream tea was wonderful, so making a return visit on Wednesday we were ABIT disappointed. My husband's scone was served and when he cut into it, it was frozen still in the middle, also both servings of the clotted cream seamed to have been frozen too. Certainly not the high standard it was previously. But the staff did correct things and were full of apologies, but still left disappointed compared to our last visit

Had the most amazing evening with friends. This place is a hidden gem !!! We all had a wonderful time and learned so much about the gin making process and how ingredients are locally sauced. So much wonderful local produce to buy and staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I couldn’t recommend enough, not just for gin school but also to buy top quality local food and beverages if not for yourself to enjoy but as gifts. They do great Christmas hampers and lots of quirky little food and beverage gift. Sometimes for everyone. A great experience and will definitely be returning for gin school and just to shop.

The home of Sidmouth gin!! I found this hidden gem on a previous visit to Sidmouth and can highly recommend the award winning gins, but on this latest trip I discovered they are now running a gin school and was quick to book this with a couple of friends. The evening started with a gin & tonic (85% ABV) excellent start and then John (the owner) and Ellie were amazing they explained about the history of gin and then talked us through the process while we chose the botanicals for our own personal bottle, within two hours we were holding our own flavoured gin. Excellent couple of hours would highly recommend this for all gin drinkers out there.

Not one came to me, I was just about to get up and leave when I changed my mind and shouted someone over. It was noon and while a few tables taken was not busy! During my time here two men complained to the two young servers and got up and left. Like me they had waited and no one went over to take their order. So the staff really do need to address that issue, even if it’s just to tell the customers they will be with them shortly.

Our other member of the party had the vegetable and cheese parcel with same accompaniments which was also thoroughly enjoyed. Staff were very friendly and overall and very good lunch at exceptional value for money. The only small negative was the toilet facility which was only one in the outside yard, so a little primitively although it was twinned with a laterite in the Congo!

We went in for morning coffee and toast. There was a large, wet Labrador lying on the floor. Everyone was admiring him. Should he have been in a café where people are eating food? I don't think so. We sat down and a group of people came in after us. They were served first. We finally placed our order for coffee and toast. The coffee was brought swiftly but we waited a very long time for the toast. In the end I chased it up. They said that they were busy. Well, if they had served us first, they wouldn't have been. The toast finally arrived by which time our coffees were cold. I was asked how it was when I paid so I told them about the cold coffee. No apology and no attempt to put it right. I then realised that I had been overcharged by 90p. When I queried it, the person behind the till asked me whether I thought it was expensive. That is irrelevant. What is relevant is that I was charged too much. It turned out that one of the staff had charged us extra for the butter when this was clearly included in the price for toast on the menu. We left. We shall never return.

Five minutes later asked waiter where cake was and he said you sure you ordered one. Off he went to find out, came back and said we don't have the one you want. Had I been told that I would have gone elsewhere. It was only 11am so would have expected them to have had more choice left. Will not be returning

We were looking for a nice place to have a light lunch that would be ok with our young baby and found this little gem of a place. Good local food, great menu with lots of choice. Homity pie was excellent. Relaxed atmosphere and very friendly. Lovely welcoming new owners and couldn't have made our lunch stop better, owners even took our baby for a cuddle so we could finish lunch!! Scones looked great but sadly we ran out of time to return!

On a wet Friday morning we stopped off for for a drink. We were made welcome the moment we walked through the door. There were a range of groups at the tables, all enjoying themselves & a good atmosphere in the cafe. The service was very good as was the coffee & food and would be very happy to visit again.

We were after a light lunch and had our eyes on the excellent pasties - short or puff pastry but went for crab sandwiches from very fresh crab. I had white bread but there was a choice and they were bursting with crab. A little bit of salad on the side with a big selection of different refreshing drinks. The owners served all the food at one and were attentive and friendly. Perfect!

Stopped here on a cold wet day trip looking for a warming drink and comfortable shelter from the rain. We found it all here. The café is not large and I would imagine it gets very crowded in the summer months so I am happy we found it now. The chocolate was superb, hot, creamy, served with marshmallow and biscuit. As a joke, I asked the waitress 'if I complain about the hot chocolate, will I get another one?'. She passed my comment to the waiter who promptly set about making me another. I had to stop him as there was no way I could drink another one! Great service.

We had a lovely cream tea in this very sweet little cafe. They were very attentive with the service and were keen to see that our children were happy. The scones were warm and crumbly and the tea was loose leaf. The best cream tea I've had in years.

Being from up North, the only thing my family and myself wanted to do was have a cream tea whilst here and The Dairy Shop didn't disappoint!

Visit Sidmouth every year with the family, always go to The Dairy Shop for their meat and veg pasties at least 3-4 times (sometimes more!) in the 2 weeks we're down, which we then take onto the beach to enjoy. Absolutely unbeatable, would 100% recommend.

Arrived mid afternoon in Sidmouth and turned away by rude waitress in Mocha nearby. Greeted by hospitable hosts in a nice cafe serving decent good. Can recommend.

We arrived in Sidmouth for a week's holiday tired, stressed and in need of some food and drink. We called in at one cafe (Mocha on the seafront) and were rudely told that food stops being served at 3pm. We tried another one only to read on the menu in the window that lunch service stops at 2.30pm. Hubby and I both get really grumpy when we need feeding, so we went in here and immediately started to relax. Linda and Peter have a great little business here, a cafe, takeaway and delicatessen and it was just what we needed today. Hubby had a lamb and mint pasty, I ordered a cheese and onion one. They came with chutney, crisps, some sliced tomato and cucumber. We had two Americanos and enjoyed a small jug of tap water which was already on the table. A lovely, relaxed ambience. Just what the doctor ordered.

My husband and I stopped here for a bite to eat during our circular walk from Budleigh and our expectations were surpassed in every way. The cafe was clean and welcoming and as soon as we sat down the lovely waitress came over with a jug of water which was much appreciated on a hot day. My husband's smoked salmon & cream cheese sandwich was generously filled and the cream tea was one of the best I have ever tasted. A choice of fruit or plain scones, delicious jam and a very generous helping of rich, thick clotted cream. Overall I couldn't praise this establishment enough - quality food at very reasonable prices with polite and friendly staff/owners who clearly care a great deal about keeping their customers happy. I will be back!

We had a nice roast dinner today with tender meat and lots of vegetables, however the Yorkshire puddings were disappointing.

Gingerbread house cafe is a lovely local coffee/breakfast/lunch spot on the high st, just up from the beach. I recently ordered a cream tea for two box to be delivered to my mother for her birthday as I live far away. She loved it, it was fresh and delicious and included sandwiches, scones, clotted cream and all the fixings, and she couldn’t have been happier to be surprised on her birthday with a friendly face and a special delivery. They are also very active in the community and offered free lunches for school kids during Covid. A great cafe!
