The Daddy Longlegs in Brighton and Hove

We were staying at a local campsite, not much around, a friend had said it was good for tapas. We arrived nothing much on the outside. Inside, clean, bright, comfortable bench seats in colourful fabrics, really nice atmosphere. The staff were charming and helpful and dogs were welcome too. We had 3 tapas, pork, fish and Spanish omelette and a side of chips and for dessert a tiramisu panacotta. The whole meal was absolutely fantastic! delicious, well presented and non too pricy. I would highly recommend this place. We were there for lunchtime on Saturday in early march. Excellent.

Very friendly staff and lovely relaxed vibe. One of the best vegetarian roasts I've had. Thoroughly enjoyed it all and will definitely be returning.

We throughly enjoyed all the tasting plates perfectly cooked by chef Adam. The monkfish and hake were absolutely delicious. Service always friendly, professional and super efficient! We'll be back very soon!

I have just got back from having a Sunday Roast dinner at The Daddy Long Legs with friends and couldn’t recommend highly enough. The food was absolutely delicious, very filling, staff friendly and helpful….one of the best Sunday roasts I’ve had in a long while and suspect I will be back.

Came for lunch on Saturday with friends, had a range of tapas , including salmon, pork belly, Aubergine, and chicken wings . All delicious, good beers and great service

Heard Sunday lunch is good, but to be honest if you’re not going for that don’t bother, better atmosphere at a wake.. it was completely dead, no music & empty,

What a fabulous Sunday lunch. Great atmosphere and so different inside than what you would expect from the outside. Give the mohito a go but also saw loads of ‘house’ bloody Mary’s going out , so must also be good. Obviously regular drinks too! Roast dinner was amazing loved the hispy cabbage! Also dog friendly- what more do you need.

We have been here several times since the pub was refurbished and the food, wine list, cocktails and beers have always been good but today was particularly praiseworthy.Four of us booked a birthday meal at 1-30 pm and we had a really stunning feast. I normally am allergic to the whole concept of shared plates but the servings are generous here and there is really good range of interesting vegetarian and meat/seafood dishes on the menu. We ordered way too much food and a bottle of 'orange!' Austrian wine and the bill with a tip was less than 140 pounds which was very good value for the quality of food on offer. The Hispi and the steak and kidney were particularly outstanding but I would happily order it all again.Another thing to mention is that unusually and perhaps uniquely for a Brighton gastro pub - it is always easy to find a pay and display parking space or you can park in the LIDL car park for nothing!

Visited with friends (6 of us and 2 dogs). Booked for Sunday lunch. One of the nicest places I've been to for a long time. It felt spacious, the decor was lovely. Fabulous cocktails. The service and staff were top notch. The roast was i think, the best I've had. This place is a must. We booked, as Sunday and busy. The dogs were so welcomed. It was lovely to go to a place and not feel like they were an incovenience. The staff were attentive, engaging and made us feel so welcome. 100% would go back again.

As a local having been here a few times I thought it was about time I left a review!Three of us ordered about 9 dishes to share and we could not fault any of them. Having read the previous review I can only imagine they have some kind of gripe with the pub!The cauliflower is a real favourite of ours with lovely flavours, haddock with curry sauce a real traditional comfort plate, and the bangers delicious. We often go for the Sunday roast which always meets the standard. I can only conclude that the reason it is booked solid at weekends (as the previous reviewer points out) is because people vote with their feet and its a good place to eat!

Some twenty years ago, in a Romanian workman's cafe and choosing blind off the menu, I ended up ordering a single slab of half cooked fat. Maybe a local speciality, but even hungry as I was, it was a mouthful too far. I only mention this because having racked my brain, this is the only dining out experience I have had which was worse than my meal at The Daddy Longlegs. Barely edible, over salted 'baby squid' was unidentifiable other than as crumbs of batter. The lamb kofta (£10) was a desiccated under seasoned couple of pieces of minced lamb present with half a pitta bread and some mediocre mayonnaise dip. The few desserts on offer were so uninviting that I passed on them. There was an interesting selection of 'chilled' red wines however,- and over warm red wine is the curse of so many restaurants - but mine was so chilled that any flavour was frozen out of existence. (I did wonder if I could warm it up over the candle on the table but the mechanics of this proved impossible). In the event after half an hour, it did warm up sufficiently to be a highlight of the meal, by which time sadly I had already drunk half of it. Weirdly I've discovered that my principal emotion towards the Daddy Longlegs is not one of contempt, but admiration: admiration that they can actually get away with serving this sort of food (apparently they are booked solid at weekends). After all, if that is the case, why as a business why should they go to the expense and bother of producing anything better?

I don’t know if we just expecting more because of the prices on the menu but we were definitely left a bit disappointed by the quantity. Also while the best plates were incredible, the ones that weren’t that good were a bit underwhelming.

Fantastic Sunday lunch. We had the chicken, beef, lamb and vegetarian. All we’re brilliant and the service was great! Lovely selection of wines and reasonably priced!

Great dog friendly pub/restaurant. Highly recommended. Sadly the window view is of a van. How crap is that. Spoilt the whole experience. Management need to sort it. I don't want to eat or drink looking at the side of a van. The owner of which parked up and walked across the road. Not in. Won't be back.

We had a one night stopover in the local caravan sight, and the Daddy Longlegs was a five minute walk towards the beach so we booked in for dinner. A very welcoming bar and dining area with equally welcoming staff started the visit off nicely. We opted to sit in the pleasant garden area, and chose a selection of sharing dishes which came out very promptly. The food was all excellent and varied. Our 6 year old enjoyed everything too, and we stayed longer than anticipated due to enjoying the atmosphere (and background music) so much. Highly recommended.

Had a really nice vegan roast was delicious … staff really friendly and place is immaculate .. dog friendly too .. only critics not just lacks a bit of atmosphere but definitely one of the best Sunday roasts in Brighton

This is a very average venue. There is no stout on tap and the food portions are small, overpriced and unremarkable. You will struggle to remember what you ate here after a week. Add to this a very slow service (despite it not being busy when we went) it is difficult to think of reasons to recommend this place.I think 1* is fair because Brighhon has tons of better places with excellent food, if this were any of the surrounding Sussex towns I'd have scored 2*

Always a lovely experience when visiting Chis, Anya and the team. The new small plates menu is delicious, there is a variety of choice and the wines are always on point. Mon and Lora are always welcoming and attentive. Highly recommend!!!

What a great find. What used to be a locals pub has been transformed in to a great gastro bar. The menu is limited which means what they do they do very well. Never had ox cheeks before and have always wanted to try it. It was stunning in fact all the food was amazing. And the staff couldn't have been any better. Friendly, welcoming and very attentive without being OTT. Am looking forward to visiting again very soon.

A really lovely pub with good beer, drinks and roasts. The dessert of Banoffee pie was sadly dreadful and looked and tasted shop bought. What a shame.

Daddy Long Legs había logrado el equilibrio entre pub amigable y excelente comida mucho antes del cierre. Ahora está abierto de nuevo, continúa esta tradición con aplomo.Se siente bien atendido de principio a fin; el personal es amable y eficiente y está trabajando más duro para mantenerlo seguro en el entorno actual. La comida es deliciosa y la variedad y calidad de cervezas y vinos es impresionante. Los asados de los domingos siempre han sido buenos (al igual que sus hamburguesas entre semana), pero el asado vegano del fin de semana pasado fue una de las comidas más sabrosas que he comido. . . y ni siquiera soy vegano.Bien hecho, equipo de Daddy Long Legs y gracias.

Acabo de hacer un viaje en autocaravana y encontré este gran bar y restaurante. El servicio es excelente y las reglas de Covid se siguieron muy bien, así que nos sentimos seguros y cuidados. La comida es fabulosa, puedo recomendar el plato de pescado para compartir y el asado del domingo. El personal es excelente quisiera llamar a Moni, Laura y Anya xx

Bueno, este pub fue una sorpresa encantadora, una verdadera joya escondida en las calles secundarias de Brighton.Muy contento de que nuestra amiga nos llevó a este pub cerca de donde vivía. Solo íbamos a tomar un par de tragos, pero terminamos teniendo un hermoso plato de pescado para compartir entre 4 y postres, jejeje.La comida era deliciosa y un ambiente agradable, aún mejor gracias al excelente personal.No le cuentes a mucha gente sobre este pequeño diamante, ya que no queremos que se eche a perder. Jajaja Sin duda volveremos a visitar la próxima vez que estemos en Brighton.

Pedimos una mesa al aire libre y nos enviaron a comprobar si había una disponible. La cumpleañera es vegetariana. Cuando fui a ordenar, me dijeron que el plato que quería pedir se había agotado (entre semana, temprano en la noche). Pedimos el curso vegetariano alternativo, solo para que nos dijeran que este también se había agotado. Así que nos las arreglamos para encontrar partes en el menú que le convenían. Mi pareja y yo pedimos bacalao frito. Las raciones eran pequeñas. No hay fichas disponibles en este pub. Su guarnición de verduras nunca llegó.El servicio fue muy lento y poco profesional.Además, se suponía que nos habíamos beneficiado de una reducción del 50% ya que era miércoles por la noche y escuchamos retrospectivamente que el pub es parte del esquema Eat Out to Help Out, pero no se nos informó cuando se presentó la factura.Intentamos aprovecharlo al máximo, ya que se suponía que era un cumpleaños, pero nos decepcionó mucho y no volveremos.

Nos encantan los archivos DLL y estamos encantados de volver con amigos después de que reabrieron. El menú se ha simplificado, lo que puede ser comprensible, pero la calidad de la comida no era tan buena como antes. DDls era un lugar al que acudir para comer bistec, pero esta vez nos sirvieron un pequeño cuadrado de carne demasiado cocida y una patata fondant seca y sin sabor. Desafortunadamente, el tamaño de las porciones y los precios también han cambiado y no creo que lo que comimos tenga una buena relación calidad-precio o de buena calidad dado lo que han estado haciendo en el pasado. El servicio como siempre fue excelente.

Como visitantes habituales de The Daddy Longlegs, estamos encantados de volver a uno de nuestros pubs locales favoritos después del cierre. El servicio es excepcional en todo momento y la comida es de excelente calidad y buena relación calidad-precio. El pescado con patatas fritas es especialmente bueno. El jardín es un lugar encantador para disfrutar de bebidas en el hermoso clima de verano. ¡Gracias Anya y el maravilloso equipo!

Vamos aquí con regularidad. El equipo es genial, los asados y el menú regular son increíbles. Tienen una gran selección de vinos y bebidas. Venimos aquí con la familia, cenas de trabajo, etc. La comida no decepcionó una vez. El lugar está muy limpio y tiene un ambiente encantador, siempre se siente como si estuvieras de vacaciones, sentado en el restaurante de un hotel de alguna manera.

La comida salió increíblemente rápido. Mi cordero cocido y enrollado a fuego lento tenía forma de hamburguesa y no era muy agradable ni en textura ni en sabor. Patatas no muy crujientes, zanahorias prácticamente crudas. Me gustan las verduras con un bocado. Pero esto era ridículo. Salsa igual para cordero, cerdo y pollo Yuk.Bonito pub, pero el almuerzo bastante bueno por el precio.

Vino . . . de nuevo mega precio para el vino que ustedes tienen en su lista de vinos. lo siento. experiencia media No volveré Demasiados lugares increíbles para elegir.

Had Sunday lunch here with a friend. The food was just ok, although my beef (£17) was a bit stringy and the food could have been hotter .Pudding at £7 was again just ok . Wine at £7 a glass was expensive. Overall, it was ok but there are better places in the area for a pub lunch .

Sunday lunch, excellent roast, plenty of food and very tasty. Vegan options available as well. They now offer starters as well and the desserts are lovely.

Dinner with friends. Three of us had cod and chips. Undeniably the best cod I have ever had. Chips were good but not numerous. One friend had cauliflower soup starter which he said was excellent . Another vegetarian friend had veg warm salad which he also said was excellent. Bar is very busy and staff appear to be a little frazzled at times but are friendly. Decor is updated and clean. One downside are stools for chairs at dinner tables. Friends also said desserts were delicious.

We were very lucky to get a table for 2 on Sunday in the Daddy Longlegs - as it was packed.We ordered 2 drinks & the lamb roast & the veggie wellington.Pub was really busy - lots of big groups & lots of dogs & children. Great atmosphere.Our food came out really quickly - which was a nice surprise! My veggie wellington was delicious - crammed with chunky vegetables & lovely pastry. It came with a giant Yorkshire pud, a big carrot, creamed leeks, purple cabbage, roast potatoes & broccoli - a huge plate of food. Oh! And a side of gorgeously creamy & cheesy cauliflower cheese. Every element was perfect. There was nothing I could fault. Service was excellent. The staff are so helpful & friendly. All in, with 2 drinks it came to £44. Worth every penny.It’s definitely worth booking a table in advance though!!!

It was a pleasant place to order fish and chips in Brighton. Very cozy atmosphere for reading or chatting with friends. Good food too!

This is a new venture in a completely refurbished pub, previously somewhere no one would go, now, however, new owners and staff plus very elegant fittings and first class cuisine. We found the staff to be very friendly and professional, the food was very good indeed at very reasonable prices. We are planning to return very soon.

Four of us went for Sunday lunch and were really impressed. From start to finish the service was attentive and friendly. We all had different roasts (one vegan) and all commented on the quality of food and great taste. Pudding was also yummy. Two bottles of chilled pale rosé accompanied our meal and we all piled out into the Brighton sunshine with smiles on our faces.

We went for lunch quite late so the place was quiet but the food was very good. We went for traditional fish and chips which was fresh, well cooked and very nicely presented. The place is stylishly decorated and the music not too loud. All in all a pleasant experience.

Really lovely food friendly staff would definitely recommend this restaurant for dinner or lunches!!!!

a meal booked for a group , when we arrived and ordering a drink the ginger haired waitress asked us to move to the table 'to free up the bar' - there was nobody else near the bar! and we made a joke of being moved on. Lovely food, great nut roast, and roast dinners. We'd asked for birthday cakes (taken in before hand) but the ditzy waitress spoilt all the surprises. no confetti, no banners allowed or any table decs. Also had to ask 3 times and wait 45 mins and for the used dinner plates to be taken away. Very dog friendly, dog everywhere and the place does smell of dog! Dog sitting up on the furniture and up at the tables!!

We were very lucky to book the whole pub for party, and what a great night it was. The staff were incredible. Friendly, funny and really helpful. The food was fantastic, and the place is a perfect size for a great night. I would throughly recommend this venue if you are looking for a celebration.

Great roasts on a Sunday with the most amazing Yorkshire puddings. Hard to choose, we ordered one beef and one lamb and shared. The perfect combo until one of our friends said the pork was the best she'd tasted. Could be roast pork next time!

I've been here 3 or 4 times now so I really like it! The room is beautifully decorated and light and airy (also a nice garden for warmer weather). Staff are friendly and professional and food is good although menu is quite limited. Can definitely recommend.

I called on Sunday morning to see if I could reserve a couple of tables for my family after scattering of my father in laws ashes. The staff couldn't have been kinder. We were reserved a private area in the conservatory. Bottles of Bolney Estate Sparkling wine was put on ice and brought into the room with glasses. Excellent selection of sharing plates for nibbles. The girls working that day couldn't have been more accommodating and kind. It was so appreciated. You made a difficult day very special. Thank you.

Visited here with some friends, and was pleasantly surprised, what a find! Friendly atmosphere, the menu was varied and the food really good, lovely staff also the owner Chris introduced his self which was a nice touch. We will definitely be back and will recommend to friends.

This is a lovely bar restaurant close to Brighton marina. We’ve had a drink or two in the bar many times since they opened in October 2018 but had never had the opportunity to try the food, until now.

The staff are attentive and friendly. The menu is limited but what is on there looks good, we had the sharing platter and it was delicious. Great wine and gin selection too.

Nice clean pub with a great welcome. No idiots allowed in this pub. Highly recommend for a beer or a bite to eat.

First visit since it has had a makeover, which was about 9 months ago. The decor is interesting, the garden is fabulous, new furniture, mixture of shade and sun. it was the first day of a new menu, we chose quite a selection as it was all reasonably prices. Beetroot and goats cheese crostini, thai fish cakes, chips, halloumi fries and sweet chilli sauce, corn fritters - all well presented. Lovely friendly staff.

I was really impressed by the Sunday roast I had in this pub. I went for the pork belly which was tasty and moist. Accompanied by well cooked vegetables and delicious gravy. Only reason I haven’t given 5 stars were that the roasties could have been more crispy and I would have loved some crackling with the pork. Otherwise a really nice meal.

Sunday roasts are rather expensive, so one would expect the best. The order came quickly and it was noticeable that there was a lot of gravy which I find, too much. The meal came on cold plate so by the time I was half through it, the food was cold. A shame, because there was a lovely choice of vegetables. The chicken was slightly pink inside, showing that it was undercooked. But the gravy was delicious. I am sure, if the chef were to attend to those matters, the food would be good and worthy of the £15 they charge.

Came to this pub while being slightly stranded in Brighton. Staff were lovely and the pub is very clean and well decorated. After seeing a roast come out of the kitchen I knew I had to have one! And it did not let down! Highly recommend this place for a good Sunday Roast! Beer garden is gorgeous in the sun, and I loved that the place was also dog friendly.

The decor and room are just lovely. The food platters were presented in hamster bowls and it looked unappetising. The worse aspect was the staff were stressed, tired and had an inability to smile. It made the experience dreary. Fortunately, we took our own good company which saved the day. Please get it together as you have great potential.

Visited this venue the other day and left quickly as they wanted to charge us £6.50 for a Dry Martini (vermouth) and soda. This drink is usually priced at £4.50 tops and quite often just £3.00 as some places never charge for soda water. Furthermore on a good day one can get a whole bottle for £8.00 in Asda. The pricing at this venue is extortionate . .

Recently renovated. Looks nice but can’t help but think it would be more suited to the centre of town.

Really disappointed today.... have had an excellent roast a few weeks previous..... 3 people left without eating because of the wait and 2 had nothing because they’d run out... 3 had lamb that was totally inedible.... extremely disappointed with tonight’s service, usually excellent and bar staff were good. Really needs to bring kitchen back to great.

As we love the plotting parlour, the sister cocktail bar to the Daddy long legs we thought we would pay a visit for Sunday lunch. First impressions are of a bright, homely pub with a couple of reasonable beers but the ladies in the party (6 of us) thoroughly enjoyed the gin based cocktails. Menus looked very good and the starters were, it has to be said extremely good. This is where our luck ran out. The ‘foodies’ amongst us went for the roast beef but given the thumbs down. Feedback was tough and tasteless. Not a great joint, the roast potatoes were over done and everything awash with gravy. The vegetarians amongst us had a bang average meal. This we did point out to the young waitress our feedback but it went in one ear and out the other when we settled up. To cap it off I held out for a desert, the crumble to be more precise. Love a crumble. When it finally appeared all looked good. One bite and all I get is coconut? I hate coconut. I asked the waitress if there is coconut in the crumble (it did not state on the menu) and after asking chef the response was he put coconut in the crumble mix. Why mess around with crumble? Who puts coconut in a crumble mix? Firstly, no mention in the menu of this but more importantly if people have allergies then this could have been a huge issue.

Wow - hats off to these guys to take an old style run down boozer in an "off piste" location and really go to town . The fit out is excellent and probably done for a fraction of what the National Chains spend .

Well goes without saying doesn’t it... bloody lovely! Lovely food and a nice atmosphere with friendly service and good value.

We only intended to have a quick drink at the Daddy Longlegs on Sunday, but as we managed to grab a table, decided to order some food.

This place on the outskirts of Kemptown, is a wonderful addition to the Sunday Lunch circuit. The menu has something for everyone, and when the plate arrives you will not be disappointed. The plate is full of hot fresh tasty food, served by friendly and attentive staff.

Newly opened and eaten here a couple of times. Staff friendly but service slow at the bar. Sunday lunch was ok but roast potatoes very hard and too crispy and the amount of beef on the plate was disappointing. Desserts not value for money.

Our first visit to this, our much needed local. Very greeting, welcoming our two well behaved dogs too, with treats. Great wine selection and not rushed to do anything but relax . The table we had booked was ready on time. Food was absolutely delicious. Succulent veggie wellington, crisp roast potatoes with fluffy centres, very tasty seasonal vegetables , a great Yorkshire pudding and super gravy. There was a choice of tempting desserts but we had eaten plenty. Regular check-backs were welcome and all other tables seemed to be r noting the food and atmosphere as much as us. We went for a friends Birthday lunch. Staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming and very attentive. We all settled on a Sunday Roast, the food was perfectly OK, but not memorable, relatively small meat portions and everything else was, again, just OK. Would certainly go back, great environment to relax with friends over a drink, not sure I’d go back specifically for the food, but willing to give a non-Sunday menu a try.

Sorry sir - we are fully booked ( at 12 noon without waiting and before checking cancellation list ). This venue has lots of potential but their customer relations need so much improvement . The women behind the bar are awesome. Stick with them .

This pub/restaurant was recommended to me by a friend but I must say I & my friends were a little disappointed.

Having seen rave reviews of this refurbished pub on Facebook we thought we’d better book up. On arrival we were greeted by a member of staff who checked our booking, showed us to our table and explained that everything was bar service and let us know how long we had the table for (2 hours, more than adequate). I had the beef roast and my husband had the lamb. Fantastic selection of vegetables served with it and extra gravy was supplied on request. Everything cooked perfectly. Drinks were fairly pricey (£6 a pint). The service was absolutely impeccable- all staff were friendly and attentive and checked regularly that everything was ok. Wonderful experience and cannot wait to go back.

This pub has been such a nice surprise, for us! Totally refitted by the new management, it is spacious and cosy at the same time, and has a beautiful garden. The Daddy Longlegs pub is perfect for a drink or a meal, even for big groups of friends. Just a few meters from the sea side, half way between Kemptown and the Marina, it offers a very interesting menu, nice music and lovely service.
