Drury Tea & Coffee in Brighton and Hove

...you have put the price on the basic (mini) breakfast up over 30% recently from £6.50 to £8.50? Sorry, that's extortionate. I've been going to Drury's for years as it's handy, the staff are very pleasant, and the food is usually fine. The coffee is average: I have tasted better in other Hove establishments. I realise that good staff need reasonable wages, electric and gas has increased, rents need to be paid, etc, etc. but prices in Drury's went up earlier in the year. If there is a viable reason why you have had to hike prices this much at least put a leaflet on each table with something like "Regrettably we have...etc." Not everyone who lives in Hove is well-heeled, and many pensioners use Drury's. I am sure that plenty will probably vote with their feet. I am not adverse to paying £8.50 for a breakfast, it's the manner that it's been done: just before Xmas with no explanation. Everything else about Drury's is 4 or 5 stars, and I am only giving 2 stars because I feel that it was a poor example.

My wife and I started going to The Drury early this year, and despite a couple of hiccups early on we thought we had found a cafe where we would be coming for years to come. Now I wouldn't want to put anyone off, as we have had some lovely lunches there, but we are not so keen to visit now. Over the last five visits, our order has been wrong three times, an issue for me as we mainly go down during my lunch break and the extra wait then becomes stressful. Early in the year this was amusing, it isn't now. I'd also have to suggest that the food could be hotter when presented. That is the negative side. There positives are that they serve my favourite mocha and have a wonderful selection of fresh cakes/sausage rolls/flapjacks etc, and when the food is hot it is very tasty indeed. I didn't have it today but I do particularly like their coronation chicken in a french stick which is to die for. I think that if you visit here you will more than likely have a good meal and be very happy, but remember, they may get your order wrong and hot meals may not be was hot as you would think they should be. The venue is clean and has a good ambiance. The staff are generally very friendly, but occasionally seem a bit stressed too. So on it's best days a solid 5/5, but too many other days at 3/5 so averaging out at 4/5.

staff and service good i am visually impaired with a guide dog , i found the experience from fellow so called lunching diners , who you would expect to have a little compassion to be helpful , but to be honest they were lacking understanding , it was like pulling teeth, for diners to help me with a chair, a middle aged woman was happy for me to feel uncomfortable and she was more focused on her party of several people and butterbean salad no compassion for a fellow human i suppose that's Hove

Rarely do I feel compelled to leave a review without being prompted, but I must express my sincere admiration for the exceptional service I received today. The gentleman, distinguished by his bandanna and glasses, displayed remarkable skills in understanding, interacting with, and making customers feel truly valued. As someone with extensive experience in senior management, specifically in the Customer Service department, I am delighted to acknowledge his outstanding ability. Kudos to him for making my experience truly special!

Really good lattes and food in an exceptionally friendly atmosphere. Forget the chains and the places trying to be "neighborhood", Drury's is genuine. You will be glad you visited and want to go again soon.

All ok apart from when my husband and I ordered off the menu of what which ingredients were on the menu to be told they need to check with chef if she can do it as she can get funny. Which seemed a bit weird. we then heard the short older lady with blonde hair moaning about our order really loudly from the kitchen which was heard in the restaurant this is not at all professional and being that We were paying customers they should be greatful for business to keep her in a job! Very unprofessional although food was ok when arrived, we won’t be coming back if our order causes problems not worth it, once and once only! Everyone else was pleasant enough.

Drury, Southwick square is simply the best coffee shop! As soon as you step in you feel a warm vibe. Lovely aroma, lovely cosy feel and clean fresh decor. Staff are fantastic, all of them. Must mention Torres, always smiling and happy to chat, and Sophie, likewise. So friendly and welcoming. Apologise to all other staff who are equally so whose names I don’t yet know. I go in as often as possible whilst I’m out driving for a living. Food is fantastic, great flapjacks and brilliant coffee. Makes my day and the best way to spend £3!!

Good strong coffee and cakes were pretty good too with lots of seating inside & out. Toasted sandwich was nice and portion size was spot on

I’ve been to a many cafes in the BN postcode area, but this one stands out! I didn’t just feel like I number, many of the staff took interest with customers on a personal level. First time coming here, but feel like I have been coming here for years. The breakfast was very nice, I had the mini breakfast. The toast is nice buttered and thick, and the sausages were to die for! Speedy service, which boasted an abundance of efficiency. The coffee was lovely, I chose the decaf latte with coconut milk. Overall 5 out of 5 starts, and an amazing atmosphere.

the service and quality here makes drury’s truly a hidden gem in hove! great coffee, delicious food, but what sets them apart is the service - everyone who works at drury’s is a delight! i’ve never interacted with so many happy staff members! covid measures have been thought out and put in place to make sure everyone is safe whilst being served. the price is the same as any independent coffee shop, a bit more expensive but totally worth it, and a surprising selection of vegan treats (the peanut butter flapjacks are to die for!). cannot recommend highly enough, everyone who works there is warm, friendly and caring. highlight of my week getting breakfast and coffee!

Amazing veggie wrap , but please get with the programme and stop giving out PLASTIC KNIFES AND FORKS , we are in a plastic crisis and you should really know better than this , you wouldn’t get away with that in town !!!!

We have been going to Drury's for many years but unfortunately on our visits since lockdown, the food has been disappointing. Sandwiches which were well filled are now only sparsely filled and the bagettes seemed to have shrunk in size with the coleslaw gone completely!. What a shame since this was the place we came to at least twice a week. Service is still good and the staff are friendly.

We have been eating at drurys for many years. Obviously due to the current crisis we havnt been for several months. Great to see no changes in the quality of the food, always great coffee, very pleasant staff.

During 4 months of working from home we have become regular visitors at the local cafes offering takeaway. It was a great day when Drurys opened and we have become weekly visitors picking up lunch time sandwiches. The toasties are perfect, sizeable and affordable. On the weekends we occasionally buy a coffee to take to the beach. We also buy coffee beans. Drurys is a brilliant neighbourhood coffee shop - we are so lucky to have it nearby.

Came for a late breakfast, had the poached eggs , cooked perfectly and nice bread. Lovely coffee as well and good service.

I come in every Thursday for coffee and cake with friends after school drop off, I love the coffee and the atmosphere of this cafe. The cheese scones are to die for but most days are already all gone! So get there early! However my only gripe is my fave barista at drurys is rarely there anymore I used to be able to reliably get 1000% service and coffee made exactly how I love it by Rosie. she is so welcoming and makes everyone's coffee with love. It's a shame not to see her anymore as she really did make me and my friends time at Richardson Rd more enjoyable and felt in some ways she was a friend and always loved to have a catch up. I've heard people talking about the shopping parade at Richardson Rd for years. A friend even worked there for a while. But somehow I've never made it until now. We just happened to be heading down New Church Rd and had time for a coffee. I had a recollection of seeing Drury Coffee as a dog friendly place on a web list. Dogs are welcome inside and outside. As it was mild we stayed outside where there are plenty of tables on the terrace. Staff were friendly. Coffee was great. We had some little Italian cannoli-type pastries which were lovely. And the food at other tables looked good. Definitely worth a visit if you are in or live in the area.

Lovely cafe visited lots of times,food always perfect and service excellent.Lots of outside seating for people watching.Highly recommended.

I can’t believe I have only just discovered Drury Tea & Coffee. It is FANTASTIC. Excellent selection of delicious cakes, lunches etc as well as the usual range of drinks. Prices are very reasonable, much lower than prices in central Brighton and Hove. Large seating area inside and out, and lovely pictures of local places are up on the walls. I am already looking forward to my next visit to Drury Tea & Coffee.

I go here regularly for my morning coffee and as treat a chocolate brownie every now and then and they never dissapoint. Baristas know what they are doing and the coffee is the best around.

We are so lucky to have this great coffee shop close to where we live. We often call in for coffee and snacks, and sometimes a light lunch. The cakes are homemade and the food made to order. The young people that serve are usually very efficient. There is a large outside seating area which allows you to watch people go by in Richardson Rd.And it is affordable.I was in there twice this weekend. :)

Really disappointed that they use margarine and not butter. Really nice mini breakfast spoiled by this. Really why cost cut in this way!!

Went for lunch after being recommended this place. It was busy outside but plenty of seating inside. After ordering at the counter we only had a short wait for our food to arrive. The coffee came first and it was as it wasn’t very warm we had to drink it up before the food came. I ordered the easy plate of hummous with pita bread and olives and my husband chose the cheese and ham panini. I enjoyed my plate of food but unfortunately the panini was slathered in butter so combined with the cheese it was very greasy for him. Disappointing.

Love going to the drurys for coffee with my friends.. been going twice a week for 4 years now and thought I'd write a review.. staff are friendly,breakfast and lunch is always nice especially the jacket potatoes.. toasties are delicious.. my favourite is cheese and onion on brown.. melting cheese yummy.. love the pots of tea ..

I use this coffee shop regularly and find it consistently good, the barista coffee is delicious as is everything I have tried on the menu which is very varied for just a cafe. Highly recommend this place for any time of the day to eat, it also has wonderful staff and service.

A lively cafe that offers good service,great coffee and sensible priced snacks. Not always in. The area but will revisit when I do.

This place is my favourite for breakfast in the whole of Hove - a great selection and far more reasonable than most. The quality of the food is excellent and the Cakes are superb. Few comments on here about service - never had that myself and always found the staff more than helpful.

This is a satisfactory coffee venue but expensive and a little claustrophobic. Can sit outside and lunch for a quick bite. Staff are indifferent however and look rather bored!

popped in here for a cuppa in the afternoon. I had tea and mother had coffee. both come with complimentary biscuits. lovely little tea room with pleasant staff. cakes look good although we did not indulge this time! sandwiches looked lovely too, will return here again

Nice largish cafe, serving the usual fayre of savouries, cakes and drinks. They have a few vegan options now. I had a nice vegan pasty made with lentils. Choice of three plant milks: I had a latte made with almond milk, which was lovely. Nice seating areas outside and in. Dogs also seem welcome.

We visit Drury Cafe regularly, not only for breakfast/lunch but to get our coffee and tea. Such a vast collection to choose from, we couldn’t imagine getting our Tea and Coffee anywhere else.

My friend suggested meeting at Drury’s as she is a regular customer and I had not been before and I thoroughly enjoyed my black coffee which tasted perfect and the raspberry ripple cake was light, fluffy and delicious and my friend equally enjoyed her chocolate brownie. It was 16:00 in the day so we easily got a table. The staff were pleasant to us. I will definitely return when passing that way again.

Never have I been for a coffee with such poor service. The cashier was so rude when my food order (simple croissant) didn't arrive with my order and I asked for it I was made to feel like I was a difficult customer being told to wait while getting a filthy look from the staff... disgusting service. It was busy but still there is no need to be so rude. Will never come here again.

We visit Hove once a year and always stay near Richardson Road. The range of shops improves every year. Drury's has lovely coffee and free wifi. I didn't try the baking but it looked good.

We love Drurys, we come here at least three or four times a week.

Just arrive from New Zealand and tuned into this nice caffe just around the corner. The scones are fantastic, lovely and light and delicious. The coffee is strong and well balanced, it's a great flat white. The granola and yoghurt was very nice with the yoghurt particularly tasty and not sweet, a great accompaniment to the fruit and honey.

Nice surroundings hidden off the main road lovely outside seating and staff very friendly. Rustic interior and reasonably priced.

We were spending a week house and dog sitting in Hove and getting to know the area. Came across this café by chance and decided to have Sunday brunch. Seemed very popular with 'locals' and now know why! Good cross section of customers and dog friendly! Had a bacon/brie baguette and bacon toastie. Both served with coleslaw and crisps on the side. All fresh and tasty. We both had black coffees which were strong and flavourful. Fab selection of cakes so we will return to sample. Can imagine sitting outside would be very pleasant! Will return...

Have used this place a few times for morning coffee and breakfast eating in. Coffee and food generally pretty good but service has been a bit chaotic on occasions, so if you are on a tight schedule it might not suit.

We regularly buy Drury's excellent selection of ground coffees here but decided for once to stay and sample some in the cafe.

Took my little one here for a got chocolate and a cake. Quick service and a great selection of food. Would thoroughly recommend .

What a find. Busy but great service. Very accessible three wheelchair users enjoying a cup of coffee, and dog friendly. Good range off cakes and treats. Definitely worth a visit.

Last few visits and service has been very poor.. today they completely forgot our food order.. A rude girl with bad English did not apologise.. when the young lad did apologise and give us a refund he said the girl had a language problem !! shame as been coming for years.. it can't seem to run properly with children working behind the counter..

I like this coffee shop. The tea was lovely and strong just right for 2 people to share on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Boyfriend had the coffee and walnut cake...massive slice and tasty! I had scone with cream and jam..I was a little disappointed that the cream had been kept in the freezer and had clearly been microwaved to be defrosted as was a bit more like melted Ice-cream but the rest of it tasted nice. Looked like a wide range of savoury options so will be coming back again to try those. Would have been 4 stars but the cream let it down slightly for me this time. Free parking outside..bonus!

In a pleasant area of Hove with a few shops but mostly residential - with outdoor seating and free WiFi this has become a really popular place to eat, drink, read the papers. catch up with friends and surf the net.

Nice coffee, cakes a bit ordinary. Glorious when u can sit outside. We made the mistake of returning when it was colder and sat inside. Rather cramped and staff constantly pushing past to get from kitchen to serving counter. So not recommended to sit inside.

An afternoon in the sun sitting outside of this place with my other half and my dog. Lovely local place. Pot of tea for 2 which you can get at least 4 cups from. Served with a little biscuit and brought to the table. Great service.

I have been going to Drury's for year's, with friends in Sussex and abroad, it has such a nice friendly and very family orientated feeling.

Went on a Sunday; nice atmosphere and lovely staff. Enjoyed a decent flat white and all the artwork/photos on the walls. We'll be back.

I tend to come here for take-away coffees; the staff are friendly, even when service is a bit slow due to a queue and the coffee is good. I ate a cooked breakfast in there once and I thought it was a little bit 'average' but I'd happily eat in there again to give them another try.

Drury's is my regular haunt for a morning coffee. Staff are excellent. Dogs are welcome and the food is good. I enjoy the ambience and on a sunny day there is outside seating. Reasonable prices too.

Really nice, pleasant place to enjoy a coffee and a bite to eat. Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere, great selection of things to choose from and importantly, not overpriced. Toilets are clean as is the rest of the cafe. Coffee is delicious as are the herbal teas. No faults here!

Have not had a drink of this quality outside of London, great relaxing environment.. Recommend to anyone who knows their coffee.

Nice staff and really tasty food. Went in here on a couple of occasions to get a brownie before GBBO and to pick up a croissant.

There was a lovely selection of baked goods, well made drinks and efficient service. There was a constant stream of customers, despite the torrential rain outside so clearly a popular local meeting place. I found the surroundings a bit stark but can't complain about the prices or the food/drink so will definitely return.

This place has the best selection of teas and coffees in town with a great cafe attached to chill in.

Bought tea bags from its shop in London. And it has got to be my favourite tea. Usually buy English breakfast and earl grey! Both are super aromatic and fragrant. And taste super strong:):)

Drurys is a great place for coffee and cake. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and they create a comfortable atmosphere. The coffee is superb, and they serve really fresh homemade cakes. Very welcoming for families with children too. Consistently excellent.

Great place for a coffee, and cake, but I had to ask for a glass for my orange juice, got given a plastic beaker covered in lipstick, but the server was more interested in talking to other staff who where all busy incidentally so I left the two plastic beakers with lipstick on the counter for the rest of the queue to see. Who would want to buy a premium product and have it in a plastic beaker anyway? Sausage sandwiches where great and it really is a lovely place to enjoy a coffee.

We went with our son (6) and friends, the coffee shop serves great coffee, lovey cakes and a very good breakfast . Simply what more could you want! The staff and service again are very good indeed.

Just when you are so fed up with chain shop coffee you find a little gem like this. Child friendly and the dogs was welcomed with a fresh bowl of water

I can only say the person who didn't have a good breakfast must have gone on an off day as I eat in there quite regularly in the mornings and have always found it to be of a good standard.

Best for a coffee and cake. Breakfasts aren't good (think scrambled egg and everything else is microwaved), so if going for breakfast stick to toast etc. lovely atmosphere and service though, and lovely coffee and cakes.

Wonderful selection at great prices. I love the Italian blend :). Very helpful staff always willing to advise you.

I love this coffee shop! The cakes are always so fresh and the shop is always clean and welcoming! The staff are so friendly and helpful and go the extra mile to help. I have become quite a regular and I feel they value my custom. My children love it there (mainly the food!!). No negatives!!

Met up with some friends for coffee and marmalade on toast . Gets busy so sometimes you may have to wait for a table , if it's not too cold they have seating outside too. Perfect start to a Sunday Recommend Hove resident :)

Couldn't believe that a cafe like this could be so popular when it's in the middle of a residential area and way out of town centre. But having tasted the coffee and tea and delicious cake I could see why people come here and also give such good reviews. The icing on the cake (!) was that for three good-sized coffees/teas and cake we paid only a little over £10 - excellent value and ao another good review is due.

Lovely atmosphere, good food and a huge selection of milkshake flavours! My kids compare any milkshake they have anywhere to those at Drury's. The benchmark has been set and it is high!

We recently visited Drury's whilst on a visit to Hove, and were warmly welcomed into this lovely cafe. Each one of our family - with four teenagers chose something different, and each meal or snack ordered was hot, freshly cooked and very good. The service is very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Very highly recommended!

When everyone was freezing with the latest bout of snow everyone was having a great time eating and drinking with people even taking their coffee outside. It turned out to be a nice relaxed day off

Drury's tea and coffee in my opinion cannot be faulted! The staff are always extremely polite and up for a laugh and the service is excellent. As for the coffee, you won't be able to find any other coffee shop that will serve the high standard of coffee that these baristas do. I would recommend this place to anyone! As for the comment from Rebecca about one of the staff Sophie, I find it rather inappropriate to bring the girls personal life up on the Internet even if it is true! Accusing her of being promiscuous and talking about get fake tan does not exactly show you and your review off to be reliable

I visit this coffee-shop at least twice a month and it is very popular which says something about the quality of the coffee! They are constantly adding new foodie options which is great to see. Great to sit outside in the sunshine browsing the free newspapers. Also available is a wide range of loose coffee and tea to take away and specialist teapots, coffee filters etc.

i visited Drurys in Richardson road, Hove and found an excellent place for food and coffee. The coffee, food and service were second to none and even though it was buzzing and extremely busy all the staff were friendly, cheerful and efficient. In a road with several food outlets this one definitely came out on top, 10 out of 10 on all fronts

A few months back, popped in for a coffee. As per usual the perpetual drizzle decided to give up for ten minutes so all the new church road toffs have taken up the oustide seating. Was stunned to see so many staff on despite the fact it was nowhere near as busy as the coffee shops in town. Counted six in all, but one could be bothered to clean the filthy tables inside. Classic Brighton style lazy dullard to cool for school staff who have no sense of customer service. Coffee was ok

My Husband and myself often visit for a tasty panini and coffee, it is a bit of a special place and I almost do not want to tell too many folk about it in case it becomes too popular but that is selfish. It is a very friendly, serving terrific paninis for £3.50 with a side helping of coleslaw. They also sell lovely fresh quiches, cakes etc., Drinks are various hot and cold there is ample seating inside and outside and when the sun shines the road is bustly without any car fumes, there is parking for two hours in some spots in Richardson Road and there are spaces just round the corner in the next small road. People are always coming and going as the road is known as the "village" by locals, there are various shops including a very good butcher, fishmonger, newsagent, bakers, off license selling more unusual tinctures, a florist also selling pretty bits and pieces and others, so interesting to browse round. The jewel in the crown for me is the Drury Tea and Coffee (I suppose cafe) which also sells a very wide choice of teas and coffees freshly ground, for your own use, there is also a lot of coffee and tea aids and bits and pieces for sale. Go and enjoy a break there, especially when the sun comes out.
