Lovely friendly bar. Nice relaxed atmosphere

Lovely chilled atmosphere, with a function room available for relatively cosy gatherings, parties, and receptions. We could play our own music, which was such a nice bonus.

Really upped their game on Sunday Roasts. Really well cooked (not overcooked veg which is usually the case when eating at a pub!) and fantastic service. Well done Garden Bar. Only a 4 for atmosphere as dont really like the big screens but not a showstopper for us - just a bit noisy.

A nice, spacious pub with a good range of drinks, friendly staff and a big outdoor area at the back. The decor in the main bar area is very nice, so it's strange that the men's toilets look as though they've been transplanted from a backstreet spit & sawdust pub in the 1950s! Some room for improvement there. We didn't eat, which is why I'm not giving a rating for the food.

Fantastic festive family lunch, food top class, attentive staff and cosy atmosphere, great attention to detail, and nothing is too much trouble, child and dog friendly, even our four legged friend was given a doggy Christmas dinner.

Just had a wonderful Christmas meal here. Whole area to ourselves and the food was absolutely lovely! Really tasty and fresh ingredients! Highly recommended

A wonderful Sunday lunch of Roast Lamb. Beautifully presented with the Yorkshire Pudding and a jug of gravy on the side. A very busy pub that necessitates booking.

Best venue in town! Had my wedding reception, my 40th and 50th birthday there and it’s always magical and awesome !!! Thank you for such an unforgettable night once again. Everyone loved it.

We had our wedding party here in October 2023 and it was stunning. The team are so warm, helpful and frankly amazing at their jobs. The space was gorgeous with the fairylights and everything set up. The evening was completely smooth sailing and so well organised on the Garden Bar's end. Annamari is so reassuring and has a lot of knowledge and experience that was vital for our planning. She let met with us multiple times and was so flexible to what we needed and wanted. The food at the buffet was absolutely delicious and the team were brilliant with our gluten free and vegan guests. Cannot recommend enough!

A close friend of mine had a wedding reception held here a few days ago, and it was amazing. The staff were wonderful, food was fab, and the pub itself well looked after. The garden itself is huge and stunning. Genuinely couldn’t fault anything even if I wanted to!

This is the second time coming to the venue for an event. Both times were great, catered food was excellent. They made the whole night great for everyone.

A lovely venue with large outdoor garden that shuts at 11. The location is slightly outside of mainstream Brighton so it’s really nice to be surrounded by less pretentious locals and a good selection of cocktails and spirits on offer. Friendly staff, great espresso martini.

We, a table of 4, have just had the most amazing Sunday Roast. The food was fabulous, the service has been brilliant and nothing has been too much trouble for any of the staff. Thoroughly recommend it, would definitely advise booking. Having had a roast in The George Payne recently, we rate The Garden Bar as Premier League and The George conference league

I celebrated mother's Day here and we were not disappointed. Amazing food, service and the staff are just lovely. Very well done to all the staff as it was a smooth experience 🙂

Mother's Day lunch.....just perfect couldn't fault anything. Lots of perfectly cooked meat, unusual and tasty vegetables, perfect roast potatoes, huge Yorkshire pudding, copious amount of gravy. Added stuffing balls and cauliflower cheese to our order not really needed but absolutely delicious. All washed down with a perfect Pinot Grigio rose. The staff were so friendly and it made for a relaxed and very happy Mother's Day. Lovely dessert selection. Highly recommended pub. PS try the flat white expresso martini and the after eight martini....you won't be disappointed!

Had a fantastic Sunday lunch at The Garden Bar. We didn't have a reservation but they managed to find space for us as a walk in and the staff were super friendly and welcoming. Very attentive to make sure we ordered and had everything we needed. Will definitely be back!

We chose the garden bar for the celebration of my late daughter's life. The staff were incredible and made everything so easy for us that we didn't need to worry about anything . They accomodated 80-100 people, allowed us play our choice of music and play a video montage on their TV. And the buffet and choice was amazing and delicious. So many comments saying it was the best buffet people had ever had. I cannot praise and recommend this venue and the staff highly enough. Thank you for making a sad day special

Our gathering was severly impacted by Covid results and the Garden Bar were great at last minute changes to our catering numbers. Staff were really helpful and the food was well made and delicious. Under new management post lockdown. Only popped in for a few beers but the praha is good and the Mrs likes the lime slice on her pint of corona on tap. Staff friendly and quick to serve.

It's so great to see this wonderful pub getting busier and busier and finally getting the recognition they deserve. We've been visiting frequently for many years and were absolutely gutted when it closed for the majority of 2020 so we're thrilled it's back and thriving. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and go out of their way to accommodate you and make you feel at home. The food is also fantastic - easily one of the best roasts in the Brighton/Hove area, they also offer a smaller roast for those with smaller appetites (or suffering a hangover) which is a major bonus. Although it's tucked away a little between Hove and Portslade, it's definitely worth the trip, especially in sunshine as they boast a massive pub garden (with booths also available). Would absolutely recommend! Thank you GBH for always making us feel welcome and providing such a great service, food and drinks!

Amazing Sunday roast. Had pork belly with a side of pigs in blankets and pork&cranberry stuffing balls! Loved the rosemary gravy and the pork scratching was the best!! Oh and forgot to mention how lovely and friendly the staff was!

Used this pub a few times recently and I can’t complain. The location is good, there’s a big sun trap garden, the food is lovely, the staff are a laugh, and Covid restrictions are stuck to.

Well.. where else in these pandemic plagued times can you go just to watch Everton fail to impress.

Visited as a group of 6, but needed to sit outside due to tier 2 restrictions for some of the party. The three ladies that served us were really helpful, even though we were the only people sat outside on a rainy day and they had to go up and down the steps in the garden several times to bring our order. We sat in a covered heated booth, which was very welcome when faced with the alternative of fish and chips on a wet and windy seafront in October. The only option on the Sunday menu was roast dinners, but they were really good and we were all very happy with our choices. Puddings were good value and tasty too. When we went through the pub it was very Covid-safe. Would definitely recommend, whether eating inside or out.

Lovely bar. Friendly staff, some were attentive whilst some were less so (a gentle from another table applied the tactic of going to the bathroom the waving at the bar staff to place orders at his table in the corner - due to COVID must place orders and pay at our tables); I had the table in sight of all staff so potentially had better service as a result. Sports shown here too. Came for a drink and a light bite, impressed by the single portion of wings for a very reasonable price. Would come again when I’m back in the area.

The outdoor heated booths are a great place to meet up with friends from different households. Even though we are legally allowed to sit inside in groups of up to six, we felt we would be too close to each other and felt safer being outside. This pub has several covered outdoor seating areas that have a light and heater and we were able to reserve one. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was great. We will definitely be back

Chic bar restaurant with a lovely garden and the best Sunday roast in Hove! Have eaten here twice in the past few weeks with family and friends, bothtimes on a Sunday. The roast is fantastic, everything home made and very generous portions. Crispy roast potatoes, fluffy yorkshire puddings, plenty of rich gravy and good quality meat. I also tried the nut roast which was good. This place is also dog fry, would highly recommend.

Can’t recommend this pub highly enough for Sunday roast !! The staff were very helpful and charming. The roast pork belly was truly the best roast I’ve had (and I’ve had a few!). The cabbage was lovely and the roast potatoes were crunchy and wonderful. Best of all, the gravy was homemade and really tasty and not that watery “jus” that you get served everywhere. It really was faultless and we will rush back. Thanks

A lovely old looking pub but probably isn't as old as it appears. Good choice of draft and spirits. The staff are really excellent especially our waitress Grace. She was very attentive but not annoying, happy and polite, you could tell she was smiling all the time even with her mask on. The covid measures are excellent, tables well spaced, cleaned regularly and the garden area is the biggest in Hove so lots of space. I had the burger which was amazing very thick patty not at all fatty. Wife had the fish and chips which was excellent and so large she couldn't finish it. On the whole, you gotta eat here, or even if you just pop in for a drink it's well worth it (20% off food at the time of my visit)

BBQ area out the back was nice but food v. pricey. Good for birthday meal but not your everyday place to go.

Love the Garden bar. It's about a 20 minute walk from my home but really worth it. The staff and very friendly and welcoming, the premises is lovely, I don't know how old it is but it's built in that quaint mock Tudor style. The roast is really tasty and the garden is indeed very large for a town pub. I felt extremely safe with the covid measures in place. You're met at the door, there is hand sanitizer and individual sign in slips. All the tables are well spaced and the staff have no hesitation in approaching people not adhering to the guidelines.

The location is great, i like the open plan style, and the garden. The roast is very average, I found the gravy to be a little 'bisto-esque'... and for £14 I would have rather gone somewhere else. Also, cumin seeds on carrots isn't for me, but that's just a preference. The roast potatoes were good though, some of the best I've had out. I think if it was more around the £8 mark the price would of reflected what we had. Would come back as I feel this would be a good pub for my daughter and my other parent friends. And perhaps the midweek food would be better?

The Garden bar has a consistently outstanding menu on offer with quality produce. The atmosphere is always fantastic wether you are out for a spot of lunch or at one of the many Gig nights on offer. They also have a constant stream of entertainment midweek with quiz nights being a regular occurrence

I have been here a couple of times. First time we had the Pork Belly & Mash, Mighty Burger and Cod and Chips. All three meals were absolutely spot on. Service was polite and friendly, Everything was clean. It was warm and cosy with the fire going nearby. As pub grub goes, this was excellent.

Shout out to this pub for a fantastic roast dinner, and absolutely superb service. A great location in west hove but not the usual hove prices. Plenty of meat on my roast and Tomos behind the bar has a smile to die for, lovely chap. The toilets were clean and well managed and the baileys stand was a great addition to what used to be a disappointing waste of space.Can’t wait to come back every Sunday for moreOllie

I really like the staff and the layout of the pub, the garden is a real bonus. Open fires are lovely!! I would love to give them more stars but unfortunately the men’s toilets are very poor, cold smelly no hot water a cold dryer, well you get the idea. The food is very overpriced, I would love to eat here but feel I could never afford it especially if I was to have a group with me, sorry garden bar ☹️

A pleasant pub rather over dominated by screens. Good bitter. However it was only 6 o’clock and the table was horribly sticky. Our arms kept sticking to the surface. It put us off staying any longer. Doesn’t take much to clean the tables properly.
