I only stopped briefly for a milkshake on my visit today, but The Cwtch is a truly wonderful little coffee shop! Lucy and Nicola served me and were very friendly and professional, both providing tremendous, fast service. It was lovely to talk to the owner, Marion, which also helped to create a really warm and welcoming atmosphere. This makes The Cwtch a perfect little spot if you want to escape the boring corporate-style coffee shops littered everywhere else in Chepstow. Despite only being there for a short time, the amount of food & drink on offer was overwhelmingly fantastic and looked absolutely delicious. I will definitely be back soon to try some more! Chepstow is extremely lucky to have such a wonderful establishment. Thank you, especially to the brilliant staff!

Very expensive slow service with odd staff. When my husband was given menus it was aggressively stated that we 'had to have one each' ?! No soft drinks other than bubble tea, iced coffee or water. 'Hearty salad' 'freshly prepared' was a few leaves, tomatoes and a bit of coleslaw. We were told a few items 'may not' be available but when queried they had the quiche. We didn't question further on the other two items! Took a while to serve us the 'freshly prepared' ( overly stressed) sandwiches ( warmed bread and quiche and we were all served at different times. If they had good food and ratings before....it has severely gone down hill. I even suspect some of them are false as they sound very like what was said by the various staff who served us. Go to Gregg's.

We had a very nice lunch here - a smoked salmon & cream cheese sandwich, a smashed avocado & smoked salmon sandwich & 2x coffees. All very pleasant, but it was very slow (they weren't busy - the very chatty lady actually said how quiet it was) & when the food arrived it was a de-constructed sandwich with a substantial salad & king prawns. We were just looking for a quick sandwich/coffee lunch - not a feast that took 40+ minutes to arrive, & we certainly hadn't ordered king prawns! The venue is essentially a kiosk type snack bar in appearance where you order from a window & it has very limited tables/seating. It does not have the appearance of a high end establishment. However, the bill was certainly high-end, at £39.75!!! I ( retrospectively) queried this but it was confirmed, in an assertive, verging on aggressive tone, that this was correct. The menu I was given did not have prices on, although the one handed to my wife did. You have been warned - if you want a very nice plate of food, you're happy to wait for it, & foot the high bill, fine. We will not be returning.

This was the most impressive lunch I have had out for a while. When it first arrived at the table, we were wowed. It had that homemade look and taste, clearly prepared with great care and attention. The staff were lovely and made us feel really welcome. Sitting outside, we could see the interactions with other customers using their hole-in-the-wall takeaway service; everyone received the same warm treatment. The café had a lovely, warm atmosphere. We would definitely return.

Just want to point out firstly that the woman managing the cafe was really nice, funny and friendly and the staff were all great! We were served by a girl on one of her first shifts and she was great. It was a little expensive however coming to £30.80 for the two of us to have a milkshake and a ham and cheese toastie each. Toasties were ok, salad was very fresh, milkshakes were nice too. I do wish that I would have ordered a coffee and cake as both looked amazing and it’s clear why the cafe are award winning in that department :-) Wait time was quite a while considering what we ordered - approximately 40 minutes is too long when we’d only originally stopped by for a quick lunch. We were told after we ordered that it would take a while but when i asked how long, the staff were unable to give an estimate. We understood the reason for the delay as it’s a small cafe with the facilities to cater for a small amount of people but itd have been nice to get a better estimate on the time of service and not 5 minutes after we ordered - you’re kind of stuck then! We bought our dog with us - I do question whether this cafe is “dog friendly” as the cafe manager described, as there are no dog friendly items within the cafe or outside (including no food obvious dog water bowl, tables are low down, not enough floor space between or under tables). I’d definitely recommend adding a dog bowl at the very least if the cafe is to be dog friendly!

We were shocked when we were charged £32 for 2 takeaway sandwiches and coffees! We'd stopped by the hatch, encouraged by the chatty owner, to pick up a sandwich ahead of a walk. Both came with a very nice salad. We really enjoyed both of these dishes. The staff and owner were very attentive and impressed upon us that all the food is freshly prepared. Food is very nice - all made to order and tastes great. A couple of small things could be improved though - the menu says they do smoothies etc but they don't anymore. I ordered one and the person serving me said "we don't do those" so I pointed to the list of smoothie options next to her and she just blankly said "yeh we don't do them" which I thought was a bit odd - they should take down what they don't do anymore. Then the owner is a bit too conversational for my liking. We've been a couple of times and it's nice that she says hello and asks if we like the food, but a few times she's sat I the cafe with us and spoken to us for a long time, when really if we're going for lunch we probably want to chat ourselves.

With ref to some of the more negative reviews, if you want cheaper pre-prepared fast food there are lots of chain options in Chepstow. My partner and I visited the Cwtch cafe whilst having a few days away from our home city of Cardiff. The Cwtch Cafe was warm and welcoming on a lovely winters day. The hosts simply couldn’t do enough for us and we had some lovely conversations! It says something when you ask for a coke which was unavailable but the sever (sorry didn’t catch the young lads name!) goes to the shop so you can have a glass, now that’s service! Food was phenomenal and the coffee was delicious! All the added extras in the salad were yummy and the ploughman’s lunch contained several types of cheeses and big pickled onions. In the city you’d expect for the price a small toasted sandwich and gesture of salad so I think the price is extremely reasonable if not cheap! We really enjoyed ourselves and it’s made us want to come back for the day to have lunch with a visit to the castle. The cwtch is definitely a must if you want to visit cosy cafe where the owners clearly take pride in their food and giving guests an awesome experience. Will certainly be recommending!!

Great lunch, however the service was a little challenging. We arrived at 1.30pm on a Saturday, seated and given menus and there were other people eating food, we ordered drinks but when we tried to order food ourselves we were told the person that cooks had gone out. At which point the drinks were being made so we felt obliged to stay. The person cooking then returned around 15 minutes later and we waited a further 25-30 minutes for some toasties. When they arrived the food was lovely, so no complaints there. The person cooking also seemed to be the person who owns the business and to be honest, it seemed the chaotic service was more due to the overall running of the cafe rather than the staff waiting the table. Ordered two Gelato’s as we left and they were great. Perhaps we were just unfortunate with the time we arrived but we felt it was a fairly normal time to arrive at a cafe for some lunch.

Pleasant professional staff selling small bites and cakes, teas, coffees, smoothies etc. Has a nice outside seating area, would be lovely in the summer, also has a small seating area indoors which is lovely and warm in the colder months, definitely recommend going here
