The Curious Kitchen in Torbay

I don't often write reviews even though we do eat out a lot but this visit was something special. From the friendly, efficient welcome to the extraordinary menu, this place really is worth visiting. Food is simply delicious with a fantastic choice of brunch and lunch options. Thoroughly recommend!

Came here for a breakfast with my family last year. The quality of the ingredients was very good. As was the service, but the sausages was reheated and not hot all the way through. Although the ingredients are of a higher quality, the high price is more than justified.

Popped on for a coffee with my wife and dog. Pleasant staff and nice atmosphere. We didn’t eat but the menu looked really nice Just been offered a cake…. Lovely

We had a really lovely late breakfast here. Everything was perfect and the staff were friendly and professional. I wish we had a place like this in London! Recommended!!!!

Absolutely the best eatery I have ever had a breakfast/ brunch in . I have driven a long way ( up to an hour when in Devon). In fact it is for me one of the biggest draws of Brixham. The food is fantastic (every single time ). Service is always friendly. Coffee is great . And I personally love the rock tunes playing . As I have told the owner ( I think ) they have nailed it . Cannot praise it enough . I really wish I lived closer

Yet another wonderful breakfast! The hot cross bun breakfast roll and avocado benny were gorgeous. Always good to see it full . A must if you are visiting Brixham. It is worth the wait as the food is cooked fresh and from scratch. The team led by Ash do a great job! A credit to Brixham!

My wife and I were in Brixham for a short break and visited yesterday. We are obsessed with eating good food, with excellent service in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. TCK ticked all the boxes and smashed it out the part. Drinks were served promptly... my wife stated that it was the best green tea matcha she has had. Our breakfast was insane... I had the breakfast wrap - so good! My wife the veggie breakfast.... wowsers what a meal. We are coming back to Brixham in May and will be sure to visit again to try some more amazing dishes. Kudos to chef and all the staff

Been meaning to go here and now I’m definitely going back! We were greeted by a very enthusiastic young man who was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. I had the superb Crab Benny, nicely cooked and well presented. My wife’s crab on toast was well received, if not a little on the large side. The ambience was great and all staff were friendly, all in all it was a great experience. We’re now considering a date to try their dinner menu which also looks very enticing!

Food is amazing. Service can be slow when busy. But worth the wait.

Attractive cafe and attentive service. Interesting menu. Generous servings. Only thing is that I found the meal somewhat overly salted but my husband's was fine.

My wife had the salmon benny special and it was "the best plate of food I've ever had". I had the brunch and... Wow. Honestly, cannot recommend enough. Lovely place, staff were amazing, cannot say a bad word about the place. Coming tomorrow for breakfast/lunch and if they were open for food in evenings would have dinner too. Going to try all their meals we can. Outstanding.

Had a few visits here now and the service and quality are excellent. Today I ordered the cauliflower and cheddar soup and it was sublime. I never order soup when I eat out as I work as a cook and am usually disappointed with soups that I haven't made myself but I have been humbled and corrected. Can't wait to go back there for more!

Stopped in for a late lunch on a cold wet Saturday and were blown away by the welcome, coffee and food. Staff are super friendly and attentive without being intrusive, their enthusiasm for their cafe shone out and was matched by the chef when he came out for a break. Black Americano was wonderful but the two pork brunch dishes were stunning. The Pork Benny had two perfectly cooked poached eggs, belly pork and bacon with salad on the best focaccia I have ever eaten and comes from their own bakery. My wife had a similar dish but with their kimchi and avocados. It was a stunning meal, great location and vibe and wonderful staff. It was so good we are back tomorrow morning!

Had a late lunch with my wife and had an amazing time. From enthusiastic and helpful staff to lovely food and coffee, including amazing bread from their bakery, this is a great stop for food or drink. In fact it was so good we are going back tomorrow!

My wife and I visited the Curious Kitchen and wanted to try something different. My wife had the Egg Sando and I had the Panko Pork Loin, both from the specials board. They were great choices and we thoroughly enjoyed both dishes. My pork was so tender and tasted even nicer when I squeezed the grilled lemon on. My wife said the egg sando was so tasty. She asked for some crab as an extra and as always the chef was obliging. I must also comment on how friendly and helpful the staff were as always so it was another very enjoyable visit.

We stopped in for lunch. Service was very good, and food also. We all had daily specials, venison brioche burger, parsnip soup and mushroom soup. Very tasty.

Never been before but friend had and suggested we pop in while in Brixham. Quite a small place but great atmosphere and really good staff. The owners should be very proud of their employees. Food was excellent and considering it was pretty full it came out quick.

Nice for a stop and the vibe but very overpriced for what is offered. Basic eggs on sourdough toast shouldn’t be £12+, nor should porridge be £10 a bowl (!), or should French toast be £14. The same price margin as a full English? Felt a bit upsold too. Dine in drinks sold in disposable/takeaway plastic cups and (albeit) biodegradable straws, right next to the sea is a bit ironic too. Saving grace was the quality of coffee - a nice roast.

Love coming here with my daughter, the staff are very accomodating and the buzz is always great. Food and drinks are top notch.

Nice place for a bite. Good music and tasty food . The Yorkie Sunday roast is amazing, even if tricky to eat 😄. Food prepared when ordered. Team is friendly. Definitely a place to add to your favourite addresses if you are in Brixham.

Visited here for brunch for the first time. The coffee was excellent and we had amazing food. There is a good choice of vegetarian options too. Will be back!

Always great service and delicious food to eat in or takeaway. I recommend them for those fussy eaters or those looking to try something different.

We ventured down to Brixham for a blustery walk between Christmas and New Year, and stopped in at TCK. We've been here once before, pre-COVID and hoped this visit would be as good as the last. We weren't disappointed. I had the lemon curd and blackberry french toast, which was AMAZING. So tasty - every mouthful was delightful. I struggled to finish it, but persevered because it just tasted so good! My husband had their full English, which, when asked, the waiter helped us to understand what was and wasn't feasible to ensure the meal was gluten free. I didn't catch the servers name, but he had a rainbow of colours in his hair! He had a very good knowledge of cross-contact/cross-contamination and therefore the hash browns were removed from the dish due to them being fried in the same oil as that days non-gf donuts. They happily added some bacon on instead of the hash brown as well as gluten free bread. We both really enjoyed our meals and the cafe was full to the brim the entire time we were there. The team were all working really hard and were doing a fab job. We wouldn't hesitate to visit again.

TKC is the GOAT! Nothing else like it in this world. Only down side is because of its awesomeness we can only get in 50% of the time we turn up. When you’ve got people queuing down the street in the rain wind and cold you know you’ve got something special! (Especially when everywhere else in town is empty). Hats off to the owners management and staff for crafting something so special. The talent, hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed. See ya real soon. (If we can get in)

Busy small restaurant, with lovely food. Sometimes you have to wait for a table outside, but they do their best to look after you.

We came specially because of the choice for vegetarians. The menu looked great but unfortunately, the loud rock music meant we could not stay. I did ask if the music was what they normally played and was told that it was by the young members of staff. Such a shame. We found great vegetarian options and a nice atmosphere at the Old Market House by the harbour.

Really good, few too many tables in a small space but good food not fast ( nor should it be!!) Really well put together and interesting food

Very disappointed with the full English breakfast eggs and the hash browns were over cooked. Had heard good things about this place but at nearly £15 for breakfast I don't think we will go back. (From a party of three.)

The food and service just get better year after year. Ash and his fab team offer quality meals and drinks. Plus it is dog friendly which is always a bonus. I totally recommend the French Toast for brunch.

Our visit to Curious Kitchen met up to the hype on social media, with friendly staff, incredibly delicious food & outgoing speed matching customer demand to get things out quickly 🤘🏼 staff knew their specials well, sold their products with detail and knowledge and this came through into their service. 🤠 would highly recommend coming down! You’ll see the photos match exactly what they advertise. Will be visiting again tomorrow morning before we go home. 🏠

We were curious to find this gem at 2.20pm on a Saturday afternoon, they close at 3pm in the winter months, i assume later in peak times . But rather than be sent away had 30 mins to go, far from it. Welcomed in and asked if we wanted take away or to sit down. Promptly guided to a seat and told, I will be with you shortly. Already serving a small queue. Our cheerful host was apologetic, when he took our drinks order and as he took them said, I'll be back for your food order shortly this is now around 2.40pm, remember they shut at 3 as quick as a flash an amazing pumpkin latte arrives in a witches cauldron mug with enough cream for two cream teas and a cappuccino, food order taken 10 mins later the most amazing potato and cheese soup and a sausage roll with onion jam arrives. I can say it was the best soup, i have had in long time with some amazing sourdough. This site is how you run a business, an attentive assistant who even though they were busy ish. Had time for his customer's and his trainee who was amazing as well and happy to stay until we had finished (they cleaned around us but no pressure to leave ) was first class well done to the team and thank you for making our day for we love great places like this. Sorry we couldn't take the donuts ( you know who we are now ). You are all a credit to your company and long may it continue.

The food was great, a bit expensive (>£13 per meal )than others. The crew was very nice as well. We had beef brisket which I recommend, and breakfast burrito (not so much on this) Deffo try their coffee. Its popular and small space so might wait a while to be seated. Public parking across

Breakfast burrito incredibly salty, I had 2 bites and almost had to spit it out. I complained and the chef came out and made us feel like we were wrong (quite loudly). He said he didn't season it and it was me that that just didn't like it. He then said that because I ate half (I didn't) I had to pay half. Also the staff knew I wasn't eating it and avoided eye contact with us. It was £15 for a wrap so pretty pricey. The bit of sausage that I did try was not nice either.

Absolutely superb food. We all had breakfasts, the best beans I've ever had. If you come to Brixham you have to eat here.

A true gem. Just took my partner for the best brunch I have ever had. Amazing quality food with fantastic value for money. I loved how everything was locally sourced or indeed homemade, so rare these days. To make things even better they have there own bakery down the road. We went and grabbed the best donuts ever and a delicious coffee. This place is epic with great service, amazing food and very reasonable pricing allowing plenty of tipping space. 10/10

The coffee is fantastic, we also tried the donuts which they seem to make a big thing of, and although they are nice, I feel its a very 'bready' donut with a luxurious topping, all in all though, a great modern cafe with a real cool vibe!

One of the best sausage rolls I have ever had! Will come back for a doughnut next time

Popped in for a quick bite and we’re amazed with how welcome we were made to feel straight away nothing was a problem. The food was amazing and different what a hidden gem. I highly recommend this place.

Went twice here for there brunch menu, both tines had excellent food, though not traditional breakfast there offering where varied and good for all tastes. I enjoyed the breakfast burrito so much I had it both visit. But my wife enjoyed other items as well. Good friend service, and fair pricing.

I have now reached 50 and in that time I have had a great number of breakfasts. Today I reached Nirvana with the best take on a traditional English breakfast ever! From the service to the atmosphere and more importantly the food, every aspect was in a word brilliant. It's not that often that I feel the need to thank the chef. It was that good!!!

I don’t usually like to leave negative reviews, but after spending £40 for brunch for two people and leaving really disappointed I had too. I fully appreciate that inflation has caused prices to sore, not just on food but utilities, wages etc. I want to voice that I understand that completely as I am management in the same industry and have been for 15 years. But, we ordered French toast, £10.50 without a topping, we opted for maple, bacon and bacon salt and that’s an additional £3.50 so £14.. for that price I was expecting a few pieces of French toast.. not one slice of bread, Even with inflation and using premium products, for what we were presented with, That’s a huge mark up! We also had the breakfast burrito which was ok, although I think the pairing of salad leaves with it was a-bit odd, some nice potatoes or something would have been more complimentary. We also both had a milkshake, priced at £5.75 each, on appearance they looked yummy. But once the topping had been eaten, they really just tasted of milk and if the same consistency, not thick, clearly not made using ice cream. We were going to get some doughnuts to take away, but after the bill coming to £39.50, I couldn’t justify it. Eating out is a luxury these days, with the cost of living impacting us all.. it was a treat and we left really disappointed. I would have raised this with a waiter at the time, but nobody came back to check during or after our food. The menus presented on clipboards, broken clipboards at that, when charging prices like that is also a-bit off. This is the most expensive brunch I’ve been for in a long time and we won’t be returning.

We came here for brunch/lunch and were not disappointed! The food was delicious and it was obvious real time/thought/care had gone into preparing such a great menu. Staff were friendly and attentive. Portion size was generous and we were both totally sated. We will definitely be back again!

I can honestly say this is the best food I have ever tasted in my life. I’m not one to leave reviews but this was to die for. The amount of flavour in the foods, the representation, down to the service is amazing! If you ever find yourself in Brixham, this is a must visit!

Breakfast on a Saturday first visit after recommendation ☺️ OMG 😲 incredible.....food quality and quantity.....huge portions .Our compliment to chef and staff so hard working and polite. We will definitely be returning. 5 stars not enough. Keep up good work.

Crab benny is incredible! We’ve been back many times and it doesn’t disappoint. My wife is also in love with the Doughnut they sell. 😀

Expensive meal okay London prices

This buzzing unique place is well worth the visit. Food is amazing and service even on a very busy Saturday was outstanding. Would definitely go again.

A unique place to dine, all food cooked from scratch and to a high standard,with a variety of choice Vegie and vegan catered for as well S us meat eaters. . We come here regularly. Portions are big enough to share 😉

Not the best, we ordered a board of sourdough which came with 6 pieces of bread! This should be specified on the menu as we were under the impression that it was enough for one person. This came with a large jar of peanut butter and a large jar of jam, this should be decanted into smaller pots rather than having communal jars that anyone can dip their knives into. We also ordered a hot chocolate which was both cold and tasteless. The French toast came with cinnamon and vanilla (couldn’t taste either) was lacking in flavour and was slightly burnt. If you want any other toppings with your French toast, it costs an extra £3.50, this should come as standard as the ‘plain’ option was very underwhelming. Tea was alright, overall I wouldn’t recommend.

Genuinely the best and well presented breakfast I’ve ever had.

First thing, Ash is one talented guy. His food is amazing! I had the Pork Benny and my boyfriend had the Crab Benny and thoroughly enjoyed both. The staff are super friendly and the playlist they have on is an absolute belter. Also dogs are welcome too. My boyfriend and I randomly got talking to his Aunt at Brixham Harbour lighthouse who recommended The Curious Kitchen and I completely agree. You MUST go to Curious Kitchen and Bakery!

I've eaten at a lot of breakfast places and I would struggle to name a better place. The food is cooked to perfection. Great job guys

If you are in or even near Brixham you need to come try the brunch. Possible the best brunch I have ever had. Great portions, really flavoursome food and the staff were so welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend.

Great food, one of the best breakfast/brunch I have had. Staff are superb, friendly and very courteous, highly recommend a visit if you are on holiday or live in or around Torbay.

We visited on Saturday for my birthday and yet again the food and atmosphere was amazing and the staff were all very friendly! The doughnuts were also incredible, would highly recommend!

You won't find better in Brixham

Delicious crab Benny, brown and white crab meat on crusty sour dough bread, with two perfectly cooked poached eggs on top. Early seventies music playing in the background was also to our taste. The staff were friendly and attentive, definitely worth a visit. April 2023: just stopped for a coffee, busy but a good buzzing atmosphere

Came in hungover and had the French toast. My wife aside, it's the best thing I've put in my mouth.

Infectiously enthusiastic staff, great soundtrack, delicious food.

We enjoyed the sourdough loaves very much. I would only question if they need a little more salt in the dough but I know not everyone has the same tastes.

Popped in today for a snack and was truly delighted with my visit ~ had the sliced avocado on sourdough with feta and tomato, and a chai latte. All absolutely divine. Staff were lovely and very efficient despite how busy it was! Thank you guys x

Great food at the CK as always. Don't get me wrong, this isn't Michelin stars were talking about here, it's simply a fab little place serving fab brunches and lunches in Brixham.

Best breakfast I've ever eaten! Lovely, thoughtful, warm staff, great atmosphere and we went to their bakery a few doors up the road and bought more food to take home!

Really friendly staff didn't get the man's name but he was good with my little boy and gave the chef a very good compliment as the food was amazing

Loved this place. It was busy and had a relaxed atmosphere - this is in part thanks to the metal music being played by the kitchen (which was not intrusive, in fact I found it oddly soothing!). There is an excellent range of vegan food on offer here. I had the vegan brunch where the Chipotle beans were a particular highlight. I felt absolutely stuffed after as the plate was huge, but wanted to try more of the food, so I bought a cake to take away (a vegan raspberry tart thingy. It was delicious). My partner had the pork benedict and said it came with a generous amount of meat. The service was friendly as well. Staff didn't seem to stop to take a breath as orders were being taken left and right, before food was swiftly brought from the kitchen. I was really impressed at how they handled the busyness as though it was nothing - the food didn't take too long either. The price of my vegan brunch was £14 with drinks on top coming to another £5 or so. In my opinion, it was really good value and I'd love to go back.
