The Cumin Restaurant in Nottingham

Popped in last night for a meal. The food was amazing and the staff so friendly. The problem I have as an Indian is finding a restaurant that does authentic Indian food. I can honestly say that I finally a decent place to visit when I come here to Nottingham. Definitely one of the best I have tried.

But even before you see the food, the incredible aroma that greets you at the door immediately tells you this is a different kind of Indian restaurant. It's a tantalizing blend of spices that promises a truly authentic culinary experience, unlike anything else in the area. And the food certainly delivers on that promise! Having dined here numerous times, I can confidently say that Cumin offers some of the most authentic and flavourful North Indian and Punjabi cuisine in Nottingham. The fish curry is an absolute revelation – a delicate yet deeply satisfying dish with a perfect balance of spices that leaves you wanting more. Their garlic chilli chicken curry packs a delightful punch, bursting with fresh garlic and vibrant chilli flavours, while all the lamb curries are consistently tender and rich, showcasing the quality of the ingredients. What truly elevates the experience is the exceptional service. Sunny and Monica, the owners, clearly have a passion for their restaurant and their customers. Sunny's recommendations have never steered me wrong, always guiding me to new and exciting dishes. The staff are attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, making you feel like a valued guest. Cumin isn't just a meal; it's a culinary journey. The unique flavours, the high-quality ingredients, the genuine hospitality, and that unforgettable initial aroma make it a standout in Nottingham's vibrant food scene. Whether you're a seasoned curry enthusiast or new to North Indian cuisine, Cumin is an absolute must-try. I wholeheartedly recommend it and look forward to my next visit!

I visited this place for my Birthday Dinner and the main course vegetable rice were not freshly cooked because of the smell and taste. Feel like I waisted my money. Although starter was nice! I am sorry I have to rate you food wise 2. Although I did enjoy the vibes and ambiance.

Best Indian Ever! Went to Cumin with a couple of friends last week and had the most amazing meal. The service was absolutely impeccable—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming paired with a lovely ambiance. We were offered great recommendations by the owners, we shared the seafood platter for starters which came out on a sizzler and was divine, the textures and flavours leaving a lasting impression. For mains we had north indian fish curry and karahi lamb paired with lime rice - which we haven’t heard of before and Garlice naan which was so fresh, we could smell the garlic. All flavours in our dishes were unforgettable. We will definitely be revisiting without a doubt.

Also, my friend had the veg. samosa - two tiny triangles that you can eat in two bites. I had hoped that the mains would be a lot better. My potato and aubergine curry was fine, quite greasy as I think the aubergines were deep fried before adding the curry and potatoes. The garlic nan had a lot of burnt areas which I had to discard. It was also very dry as there was hardly any butter on it. My friend's veg. jalfrezi was very hot and he found it was more chilli than flavour. The pilau was served in a small dish, that was only half the portion of his curry. For afters, we wanted coffee, but they didn't serve plant based milks, so we only ordered one at a cost of £4.50. In the end, the bill came to £55. I couldn't believe they had the cheek of adding 10% service charge. I knew that it was a min. spend of £15pp, but to omit this from their menu was not on. We shan't be going back which is a shame as the owners clearly were quite nice and welcoming.

The hosts were very friendly and accommodating. We asked for the food to be mild and to our surprise, they actually made it mild which we haven't had from other Indian restaurants. It was deliciously cooked and the dessert, the Malai Kulfi was out of this world!!

Their food is amazing and paired with exceptional service by Monica and Sunny. I recommend the methi murg with garlic naan and pilau rice.

In a town blessed with many Indian restaurants, the Cumin is at the Pinnacle. Their Aubergine and potato dish was excellent!

Came for a works do and food was so nice! Came out very quickly and at the same time and there was a big group of us too! Would deffo come again!

Had a work do on February 21st with about 32 people attending. Service was on point, and the food was absolutely delicious. Not one compliant. Very organised and very friendly staff. I highly recommend this place. We will definitely be back again, thank you for a brilliant night.

Me and my partner booked this restaurant for a valentines meal. We ordered the valentines menu special and it was absolutely delicious! The starters, mains, sides and even a slice of cake included were all so tasty and great value for money. The staff were so attentive all night! We will definitely return. Thankyou

Back a year later for my husbands work do! And the chilli paneer that has been on my mind since I first tasted it last year tasted just as perfect as it did a year ago! All dishes were amazing! Hospitality was amazing! The atmosphere amazing! Attentiveness to detail was amazing! Everyone really was 100% AMAZING! Really is still my no.1 spot!

Lovely people who work here! I ended up ordering lamb chops and murg malabari with a garlic naan. Lamb chops had a great flavour, soft in the middle with a nice crust from the marinade. The murg malabari was without doubt one of the best curries I’ve had in a very long time! Definitely recommend a visit here!

We returned to Cumin today after some years and were delighted to have found the same wonderful quality of food and service - highly recommended and we will be back again! The lamb biryani is out of this world 😊

Had a gorgeous aloo tikki for starters and a traditional buttered chicken. Most dishes were mouth watering and presentation was out of this world. Nice friendly staff and prompt service. Would definitely recommend.

Christmas Day 2024. £75 per person. First impression was that the restaurant was very cold. We received a friendly welcome and were shown to our window seat. The menu was explained to us and we ordered drinks. The starters were pretty good, but it has to be said that the main courses were disappointing, especially the Chicken Tikka Masala. In my opinion, they tried too hard to develop a special menu for one day. We were really looking forward to a different Christmas lunch, but unfortunately it was an underwhelming experience. Stick to what you do best.

The curries were ok. The rice portions were tiny. The waitresses were attentive and helpful.

I visited Nottingham with my family between Christmas and new year and we were keen to find an Indian restaurant near the hotel. There are a number of Indian restaurants nearby to the Cumin located on either side of the road, and we checked reviews before booking. The Cumin was the only one with no negative reviews so we gave it a try. Best decision ever! It is a smaller restaurant and does not have the glitz and glamour of some of the rivals, but what they lacked in size they made up for in service and quality. From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed. The food was out of this world and as someone who has eaten a lot of curries, it was so tasty. The restaurant fairly full, but it was obvious that there were people who were regulars. The service was attentive and genuine, and the awards on display show this is a restaurant where the biggest selling point is the customer service. Cannot find fault in any aspect at all. Superb.

I've always wanted to go here and my friend has always highly recommended it. We went for Christmas Day and it didn't disappoint, it was fantastic! The food was excellent and tasted just like the food we have eaten in India, absolutely gorgeous food. The service was very attentive and they was a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant. Having visited the restaurant several times and enjoyed the food, I decided to arrange this years Christmas Event there, approached the manager In regards to numbers and dietary requirements of my party they were more than happy to host and accommodate, the food we had was fresh well made and full of flavour and was enjoyed by all the party, for the size of the establishment it was warm accommodating and the safe were friendly and always attentive in the needs of the party.

Very, very average food and poor value for money. Anyone who gives this place 5* have never eaten a good curry. The beer was flat and lifeless and the house red was cold. The onion bhaji very greasy and the mains were just poor.. Spend a few extra ££ and go to the Calcutta Club

Delicious, authentic Punjabi food, served piping hot, with great service in this family owned and run restaurant. Location not the best (on a busy main road), and decor’s a little dated, but don’t let that put you off. Recommend you try the pani puri shots as a pre-starter, the Amritsari fish (tender, with delicate flavour), the chole bhatura and the methi murg and a rumali roti - all for 2 to share, if you want an amazing, authentic Punjabi meal. All well priced too.

The menu boasted an extensive selection of authentic Indian dishes. From the crispy bindis to the indulgent methi murg, each dish was a delight. The naan bread was soft and fluffy, the perfect vehicle for soaking up every last drop of the delectable sauce. To complement the cuisine, the restaurant offered a diverse wine list. Overall, our visit was a memorable one. The delicious food, extensive wine selection, and exceptional service made it the perfect venue for our corporate gathering.

1 star is for Hydrabadi Biryani, its not worth to that price and taste is no where near to it. Too costly for average ambiance.

I visited The Cumin after coming across a new dish called ‘Nallie Gosht’ on Facebook and as I found myself in Nottingham I thought I’d pop in and give it a try. My word, it didn’t disappoint! For my starter I had ‘Pili Pili Garlic Prawns’ which were sensational and I would highly recommend for someone who likes a medium amount of spice. The ‘Nallie Gosht’ is the best Indian dish I have ever had. I would recommend it to anyone but if you love meat, this one is definitely for you. The meat falls off the bone so easily. The service was spectacular as always! Thanks!

With so many choices of dining establishments I feel we picked the perfect Indian restaurant. We arrived to an empty restaurant that soon filled up with almost all tables occupied. Our food from the Lamb Chops & Onion Bhajhi starters to the Butter Chicken & Okra main courses were very tasty indeed! I certainly enjoyed the cuisine and will definitely be making a return visit next time I visit Nottingham.

I have not visited in a while, as the last time the food was absolutely incredible. We enjoyed it so much, by far one of the best in Nottingham. I would recommend the Arachi Prawns, omg we could just eat them along with the lamb chops. We all left happy and very full. Thank you for a lovely evening
