A truly delicious lunch, all our food was well presented, tasty and on hot plates. Two of us enjoyed the chicken stuffed with spinach, tasty sauce and potatoes, another had scampi, another gammon. Very friendly waitress, Sharon, who had time to talk to us and offered a great service The pub offers a wide menu and specials of the day. It us situated in the middle of the village and just off the A1. Free parking on site, with tables outside as well

We travel from York and meet our son and wife who travel from London . It is a good halfway point for them to transfer their dog to us for a couple of weeks to look after while they go on holiday. It is a perfect place off the A1 a lovely village and pub that allow dogs and the food and service and parking are good .

I selected this pub as our driving break, three hours into our five hour journey back south to Ipswich. It's a very busy pub with ample parking. It has a large bar, a separate dining area and the original dining area where we went with the dog. There's also lots of seating outside. My fellow traveler had a very tasty, home-made vegetable soup and I enjoyed the best beef bourguignon I've ever tasted. You obviously have to match their opening and meal times, but I will definitely be using The Crown as the perfect pit-stop.

Excellent meal the Tuscan chicken exceeded our expectations. The meal was very filling and it was delicious! The landlady was lovely, we hadn’t booked a table but she was able to fit us in. We arrived at a busy time and found all the staff friendly and efficient. If we are in the area again we would definitely come back.

When you walk into a village pub you expect a warm homely feeling…since this pub has been taken over you get exactly the opposite unless you are friends with the landlords! The landlady (Michelle I think her name is) is quite possibly one of the worst people I have ever come across in hospitality! Her people skills are zero and she turns away custom saying the pub is busy when there is maybe one or two tables occupied. She placed a dish on the table in front the of me without saying a word, pure rudeness. This is not good practice! The food is mediocre at best but charged at prices expected of a far better establishment if the chef is working that is. Staff are allowed to serve food with long hair hanging down around their shoulders leading to my mum having 2 long blonde hairs in her food - neither of us have either. I know a lot of people say this but I have grown up in hospitality with my dad having being a catering manager and myself working in the industry for the past 23 years. This pub is so so at best and needs some addressing in many areas including the music being blared from the kitchen for all patrons to hear (not begrudging this but come on) we don’t all need to hear it whilst eating. Very hit and miss will think strongly before returning, if at all.

10 of us were very well looked after. Had a drink in the evening sunshine first, then went into the lovely restaurant. We had been asked to book our chosen dish in advance, which meant that the food was served to us not long after we had sat down. Very tasty and good, friendly service. Very reasonable prices too.

We went to The Crown from a recommendation. Nice atmosphere, but the food took 45 minutes+ and it was average. Our table had the scampi & chips (they were good), but we also had the Salmon & King Prawn Tagliatelle, it had very little sauce and 1 prawn. We also had the Tuscan Chicken. The Tuscan chicken and sauce very nice, but the green beans weren't edible in my opinion. They weren't just al dente, I struggled to cut them with a knife. We originally wanted the special of pan-fried Sea Bass, but it wasn't available. They seemed very understaffed; our waitress was waiting on at least 10 tables if not more. Unfortunately, we won't be going back anytime soon.

We’ve been to The Crown several times now and it’s the only place we go as a Family where the entire family clears their plates, including my 8 year old and 5 year old. Their plates aren’t overwhelming, they get just enough with a couple of scoops of ice cream for pudding. We had lamb tagine tonight and it was absolutely stunning! We will be back many more times again. We love this place!

Had a 3 course sunday roast, £22 a head. Beef was like it came from a tin, overcooked 2 slices, 2 roast spuds, 1 flat yorkshire and swimming in gravy from a packet. Glass of Shiraz, undrinkable so poor quality. Treacle tart spent too long in the microwave it was crystalline. Probably give it a miss in future.

When we arrived we were given a menu that was nothing like the menu online, upon ordering we were told they were working to a very limited menu that day, there were no specials. Lasagne was the worst I've ever had with a salad soaked in dressing making that inedible as well, 2 of us had this and we both left it. My husband had the Hunters chicken that was dry and like cardboard, covered in a sickly sauce. We went a month ago and the meal was fantastic, what a complete opposite experience. When we were asked if the meal was OK we said that the lasagne was terrible, we were told that there wasn't a chef there today, and the person cooking was following the chefs recipe as closely as possible!! We had booked this 2 weeks in advance and feel that we should have been informed there was no chef. We were not offered an apology, any discount or compensation for the meals that were left. We will not be returning, very disappointed.

This is a pleasant pub that serves honest and reasonably priced pub grub. I had a steak and salad which wasn't amazing but at the price it was perfectly acceptable. You can eat out here without breaking the bank or feeling that you have been ripped off. It seems to be quite busy most evenings so has a good atmosphere. The house wine is also acceptable and a reasonable price.

Great beer and very friendly busy pub. We ordered food at 5.30 when they started but unfortunately my steak, tomatoes and mushrooms were only tepid but flavoursome. The peas were semi frozen still and also cold, the chips were the only thing warm. Hubby had the pie which was flavoursome but his meal was smothered in gravy, which he hates. Would re visit the pub again but give food a miss.

Four of us had a meal on 19th. 3 of the meals were ok but my husband had the chicken curry. First mouthful he thought was very chewy so cut the second piece of chicken to find out it was bleeding! The young waitress was very apologetic but all that happened was a change of meal. No apology from management or reduction of bill. As our friends had organised the venue we didn’t want to make a fuss but were very disappointed. We still wouldn’t have put such a negative review on the website if my husband hadn’t have been so unwell afterwards, but uncooked chicken is obviously so dangerous and the chef should be more vigilant.

Just a quick visit as passing through. Pub is very nice inside with a good ambience. Our meal was nice, I had Salmon that was nicely cooked with vegetables. What seemed odd was that one of the veggies served was large pieces of green pepper that weren't even cooked enough. Other than that it was fine.

Sadly the staff need some training, we noticed that our order was incorrect when I was given a soup spoon for my pate. Six of us visited this lovely pub for a long overdue catch up and meal. Five of the meals were perfect, but one member of our party ordered just a plain beef burger in a bun with nothing extra added and chips. Unfortunately when this arrived he was surprised to find burger sauce on it. Which he rightly pointed out was not what he had ordered. The waitress said that was correct, apologised and said that she would have it changed. Too everybody's surprise a couple of minutes later she returned with what we presumed was a freshly cooked burger and chips. But on inspection of the burger it was obvious that someone had made a very unsuccessful attempt to to WIPE the sauce off !!!!! So having pointed this out we were told that a fresh one would be made. Another one was served but unfortunately after everybody else had finished eating. I cannot believe that somebody thought that trying to wipe the sauce off was acceptable.Unfortunately this spoiled an otherwise very pleasant evening out with friends.

We noted that others had ordered their food as we arrived and still hadn’t received their order. After a prolonged time we decided to pay for our drinks and leave, we were asked if we still wanted to order, we stated that we’d been waiting only to be greeted with “oh sorry, I forgot”; the pub wasn’t at all busy or packed out so there was no excuse for the “oh sorry, I forgot”.We won’t stop here again, drive by to more hospitable pub next time.

Hadn't visited here before so what a nice surprise! Although we had booked a table inside, it was a lovely day so we decided to sit outside. All tables were suitably distanced, there were lots of hand sanitisers and an easy to follow one-way system so it has clearly been well thought out and organised to make it as safe as possible. And the food was good too - an honest, hearty and filling British pub menu. The beef and ale pie was excellent and my wife really enjoyed her lasagna too. Don't often have a dessert - and I was pretty full! - but the apple pie and ice cream was also really good.To complete the experience, a decent range of ales was on offer and we enjoyed welcoming hospitality. Went for Sunday lunch, nice little pub, lots of people. We ordered, tho there wasn’t much by way of kids starters. My starter, white bait, deep fried ? More like cremated..Overcooked to the point of not being able to taste the fish.. Mains were similar, the Yorkshire’s had burnt black tops, the beef had burnt edges, on the plus side, the veg wasn’t burnt.... If they have a lot of covers, they really should plan better so it’s not burnt offerings. Everything came with gravy, not everyone does gravy, so a gravy pot would have been better. The desert was good tho..

We visited on a weekday for lunch, while one of our dogs was being treated at the vets nearby. We had the other dog with us and ate in the bar area as dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant part. Shortly after we sat down someone brought over a bowl of water plus some dog treats which was a lovely gesture and made us feel very welcome. The food was good quality and service time was reasonable despite being moderately busy. Prices were reasonable too, and the meal was good value overall. I'll confess I'm a bit of a slow eater but I did notice the food on my plate cooled down quicker than expected, perhaps because the plates weren't warmed first. This didn't detract from the overall meal, and hasn't been reflected in the rating as it wasn't raised with the venue at the time.We had Ham, Egg and Chips, and the Steak and Ale pie. Both were delicious.Should we be in the area again I'd have no hesitation in eating here again.

This is a lovely pub and the restaurant is really good. However it is very frustrating that all the locals seem to sit at the bar on high stools and it is difficult to be served! You end up interrupting their conversation to lean between them to get your order! They should remove some of the bar stools at one end at least so people can be served! That aside, lovely friendly pub and the staff are great, ate there recently and very impressed by quality and service. Well done everyone

We arrived at The Crown for a late dinner on a Friday evening. The pub wasn’t busy but a few others customers in the dining area. We were quickly asked for drinks as we were seated and soon after the waitress came for our orders. Menu sounded good but not extensive which usually means they do a good job of what they do serve. We were very impressed with the food, I had soup of the day - which I was very pleased with as it appeared and tasted homemade and was piping hot, as was the bread to accompany. My husband had pate and was also pleased. Onto mains I had steak and ale pie and although it was pastry sheet on top of the filling it was still quite tasty. My only gripe was the filling around the edge was more cooked than the rest which meant the steak was slightly tougher. My husband had liver and bacon and really enjoy this too. He also had profiteroles for pudding which he said were different from usually having fresh cream filling but the praline centre was very nice.

Love this little pub, staff are wonderful and so welcoming. The food is lovely with a really good choice of meals. All homemade and very tasty. I would strongly advise to book especially Friday, Saturday and Sundays as it gets very busy.

I am a long-standing regular of The Crown and have seen many highs and lows. The pub is now definitely on a high! It now looks after drinkers and diners alike and when we dined here recently the food was excellent. This is a real country pub that is well worth a visit

We decided to have Sunday roast here. We were disappointed the veg and Yorkshire pudding were good, the roast beef looked nice and lean. When we tried to eat the beef we couldn't it was as tough as can be! Waitress asked if everything was ok and I told her the beef was tough she replied on dear!

Six of us booked a table for lunch on Saturday ordering liver and bacon, steak and ale pie and sea bass fillet. I am told that the liver and bacon was very tasty as was the sea bass. The steak and ale pie was so large we had to share it around! The food was very good but the highlight was the real ale: Adnams Ghost Ship scored 4 out of 5 and Adnams Broadside scored 4.5 out of 5. Stupendous beer. The Crown should be in the Good Beer Guide.

Often drop in here for a drink. The bar staff especially Debbie are brilliant. They always have a smile even when the pub is busy and it does get busy at times. The beer is good and they have a good choice. The food is good with hand made chips and not any frozen rubbish. A great outdoor area is also busy especially in the summer months when they do pizza cooked in their oven. If you not been you don't know what you're missing.

My family and I searched Tripadvisor for somwhere local to have lunch. We recently moved to Easton On The Hill and have to find new places to eat. The service was friendly and the food was really good. Our only concern was that the latte served to us was a small serving compared to others. The glass itself was smaller than a normal latte glass and filled well below the top. That said we enjoyed our lunch.

The Crown Inn is just off the A1 and a great detour. The pub staff were friendly and helpful. The pub had a relaxing feel and could be classed as cosy. Good selection of beers on offer. Tea and coffee was available too. The menu had items for all and at a reasonable price, there were a few items not available on the day we visited however this did not stop us from enjoying the meals that we were served. We did arrive early on a Saturday morning and the place soon filled up.

My wife booked Christmas dinner for three of us. The meal cost £18 each. The dinner consisted of 2 roast potatoes, 2 small carrots, 2 slices of turkey breast, 1 stuffing ball, 5 brussel sprouts,1 slice of parsnip and 1 pig in a blanket. Well to be honest, it was dreadful. When I cut the pig in a blanket, it was raw in the middle. The pork sausage was pink. My wife's and sons sausage were the same. Raw. No apology from management, in fact they didn't speak to us. The waitress was left to deal with us. They then still tried to charge the full price, even though we didn't eat the dinner.. shocking. We left . Not going there again.

Impressed with the refurbishment - well done. Our first visit for many years and our memories were that of a run down pub who really didn't want to know.

Sunday lunch with 3 family. Very nice surroundings much improved on previous pub. Busy so make sure to book. Well looked after drinks came promptly and good choices on lunch menu. Large portions but delicious even though Yorkshire slightly burnt. Recommended and will definitely return

The Crown seems to have really upped its game with food lately - I'm not sure if there is a new chef but the meals have been excellent lately. It seems like The Crown might now be in the league of local foodie favourites and we'll certainly be going back.

Lovely attentive staff, good service, nice food and a crumble to die for. Nice ambience, lots of parking. I have given it 4 stars, only if Gordon Ramsay was the chef, would I give it 5!

The Wheatsheaf in Oakham is a traditional pub with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Dan and his team always go the extra mile to make you feel at home. They have a great selection of real ales, including guest ales that change regularly, as well as a menu of fresh, home-cooked food. Whether you're stopping by for a pint or a bite to eat, The Wheatsheaf is a great choice.

Had an awesome roast dinner here today. Sharing platter which easily fed 2 adults and 2 children (with leftovers for two hungry and knackered dogs!) The meats were cooked to perfection and the veg was packed with flavour. Lovely presentation. Will definitely be back.

Visited on a trip to Oakham. It's Caffe Nero so you know what to expect but it's cosy with nice coffee. Only downside for me is that it seems to be one of the branches that allow dogs. And there were quite a lot squealing and clip clopping around on the wooden floors. Price you pay for being deep in the country I guess.
