The welcome and service was great. Three of us dined the food was good but the two pies lacked flavour. Lots of meat and home made but dry. Just a little more gravy and seasoning needed otherwise great.

Great country pub, exactly what we needed. Hearty, yummy, filling food. A huge selection for everyone traditional pub classics and lots more! Plates were piping hot and so was the food! The homemade pies were AMAZING! So was the fish and chips! Come here hungry because you will go away stuffed!!! Staff are really friendly and helpful. Definitely will be coming here again!

Took my walking group here yesterday for lunch. What a fantastic pub in a superb location. Great of ale (Three Tuns and Ludlow Gold) and the homemade pies were the best we've had in a long while, made with short crust pastry made with real butter, you can really taste the difference. The landlady made us so welcome. What a great little unspoilt rustic pub.

Really welcoming and friendly village pub with great pub food and local beers, set in a stunning location overlooking rolling Shropshire countryside. The food is traditional pub fayre however, it’s done exceptionally well…highly recommend the pies!! Choice of three local ales, a fire and friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. In an age of chain owned soulless pubs, this is a proper family run village pub.

Amazing location, food and service! We ate here both for an evening meal and a lunch and the only disappointing thing was they ran out of their Posset. With the log burner / fire going and a friendly face behind the bar the welcome here was second to none. They were also really dog friendly, brining out more ham for our dog than she probably weighed :-) The food was delicious and the portions huge. Everything was well cooked & tasty. I was also so happy to have normal chips, you know the sort that just go in the deep fat fryer, no skin, not skinny, not too fat, just Yum! Little things like gammon coming out with both egg and pineapple, rather than you having to choose - fabulous. For the lunch we sat in the lovely beer garden at the top watching the gliders overhead, looking at the gorgeous views and flowers around. The food again delicious. I'd asked for sandwiches with no spread and unfortunately it came with, a quick highlight and an apology was given straight away and the sandwiches were remade - no fuss. I appreciate it is habit to include it and I am fussy but it was dealt with professionally and courteously. I am just sad we did not find this place sooner in our stay, they'd have seen much more of us if so! Can't rate highly enough!

In the heart of Wentnor, this place is everything a village pub should be: warm, friendly, serving excellent beer and tasty, well-priced food. My fish pie was the best I've had for a long time. A generous portion of succulent fish was topped with rich, creamy mash. The spinach and mushroom pancakes were also excellent. Lemon posset to follow comes highly recommended. When so many country pubs are struggling, this one deserves to survive, thanks to the skill of the chef and the hospitality offered by the manageress. We wish them well.

It's a wonderful B&B with a Pub located in a beautiful setting in the Shropshire Hills. The manageress was pleasant and made us feel at home during our 4 night stay. The rooms were clean and the location was peaceful. Ample on site parking is provided. The food was very good and reasonably priced. The atmosphere in the pub was fantastic and the locals that frequent the Pub were equally as pleasant as the management. We highly recommend this establishment.

Absolutely awful. Went in today for dinner. Didn’t want to sit outside because of wasps so ordered food inside. It was mentioned by another diner about wasps inside and flies. We waited over 40 minutes for our food to arrive and by that time we had been bombed by numerous flies. The flies became worse once the food arrived. In the end I could not tolerate flies buzzing around me and landing on my plate. When asked if “everything was ok?” I replied that the flies were awful. The waitress replied that she would inform the manager. The manager did not address the problem or even came to see us. I took my food back to the bar and stated that I could not eat the food due to the flies. The barmaid said she would inform the manageress. When the manageress appeared I told her of the problem. Her attitude was extremely rude and she asked me what I wanted her to do about it. I replied that it wasn’t my problem but her’s and that I wanted a refund. The manageress refused point blank although I had paid over £50 for our meal. The manageress was very rude and obviously doesn’t have good customer relationships. My partner also complained and again was refused a refund. I am not talking about one or two flies either. The flies were crawling all over the bar and onto my plate on the bar. It must be a health hazard and a dirty establishment. I am considering reporting to environmental health for their advice and opinion.

We’ve known the Crown Inn since our youth in the 60’s when we used to dance upstairs, with the chickens clucking next door! While we now live in a different part of Shropshire, we still visit several times a year and have continued to enjoy the experience, especially when the hosts were the couple who moved to France. This week we went for lunch with another couple from our dancing days. We were aware the forecast was for cooler weather, so all dressed accordingly. On arrival, we chose a table with chairs under cover, as being of mature years clamouring into a picnic table is not ideal. We were told by a couple already eating that it was draughty, but hey, we’re farmers, so quite hardy types.A very pleasant young lady came to take our order. When she return with our drinks, the cold was starting to get to us ladies in particular, so my husband, having noticed three electric wall heaters, asked if any could be switched on. She replied they were time set to come on in the evenings only. This should have told us all we needed to know about their customer service, so drank up and left, but we didn’t. The menu choices were very disappointing, (the fewest choices I’ve encountered eating out post lockdown), no longer the famous Crown Pie for my husband, or any salad based or lighter dishes for me. Still we all ordered and spent a chilly but therapeutic spell recalling our jiving days at the Crown. When the food arrived it was served in a type of Mess Can. Whoever thought that eating out of a high sided tin was a good idea, unless in prison or out on manoeuvres? Still there was nothing wrong with the Burger, Curry or Fish and Chips. We left most disappointed with our experience. Poor customer service and poor value.

Whilst staying in the area at the end of April we were very relieved to find the Crown open. Had two sessions for beer only and have to say the Ludlow Gold cask ale was spot on. On the third occasion we had food and considering what a cold unsettled evening it was the staff at the Crown managed to produce a warm welcome, good food on a limited menu (the fish and chips to die for not sure about the potato salad though) and, again, excellent beer. We would definitely recommend this pub.

I don’t like writing negative reviews but have to in this case because I really want The Crown to succeed and it will only do so from honest feedback. We had dinner yesterday and it was really poor. A limited menu was presented which is fine with only 2 choices but if you’re going to do that the food has to be really good. The Chicken Tikka was truly awful with microwaved chicken and microwaved Uncle Ben’s rice. Come on guys. Surely to goodness you can do better than this. No condiments, bread, naan or anything else on offer. Just a bland plate of university halls curry. There was a general state of confusion amongst the many staff. Incorrect menus were delivered then withdrawn. The big party at the back of the pub seemed to be getting all the attention.A disappointing end to a lovely day.We will keep an eye out to see if things improve but won’t be going back in a hurry. Shame as the potential is good with a great location.

We have been staying at the Inn on the green campsite just down the road, and we werent aware that the pub was open until we we walking back from the longmynd - what a hive of activity! The pub was fully booked for food at the time but the lovely girl (i think her name was Mill) booked us in for the evening. There was a loud group celebreating in the garden but this didn't spoil it for us as it was so lovely to be somewhere with a great atmosphere after months of being locked down! Whilst the menu was limited (and we completely understand why) the food was delicios. I had the chicken tikka massala which was homemade i believe by Anna the chef - she was here when we visited last time and the food was equally good if not better this time. my husband had the Dexter burger and again - he was very impressed. it did get cold and there wasn't space in the heated area so we didn't stay as long as we'd liked. i wish the pub every success as we know how hard it must be at the moment.

As a a family we have been eating here for many years and have always had an excellent meal so when we called last night on the way back from the beach to book a table we were all looking forward to it.On arrival we followed the procedures in place for Covid-19 and were left standing in the doorway feeling very awkward for about 5 mins before any member of staff paid us any attention. But I figured they were busy so let it slide. We got our drinks in the end and were seated at our table to chose what we all wanted to eat, we noticed the prices had been put up considerably but understood that they were closed for months and obviously had to do a little extra work with regards to the social distancing measures and as the food has always been good we didn't mind so much. The waitress came to take our order and rather than ask if we were ready to give our orders she said "do you know what you want yet or?", which immediately got my back up as it wasn't very polite. We placed our orders and waited. Not once were we told there was a delay for the food but we waited for almost an hour. Our table was booked for 7:30pm, it was 8:35pm when our meals were eventually served (not very handy when you have a 10 year old and a 7 year old. No apology about the wait was given either. My partner had the Crown burger which looked really nice and he enjoyed it. My 10 year old had his usual nuggets chips and beans which he said was lovely. My 7 year old had the cheese and tomato pizza which as you can see from the picture it had barely seen the oven, I would have sent it back but we were so hungry after waiting so long I told him to eat his chips and beans and to leave the pizza. I ordered the steak, ale and Stilton pie with chips, it turned up with mash so I sent it back to ask for chips, again the waitress wasn't exactly apologetic about it. Once my meal had returned I went to have a bite of the pie to find it was steak and ale and no Stilton in sight!! My vegetables didn't even turn up after 10 mins so I went to the bar to complain as the people sitting on the table next to us were talking about surgical procedures which was putting me off my food if I'm honest.I was given attitude off the lady I complained to who told me to sit down and eat my food else I was only making myself more hungry and we would sort it at the end. She said she would bring my vegetables through but 20 mins after my dinner was served I said it wasn't really worth it. I sat back down to eat my pie and the steak in it was so chewy and the pie itself was dry. I ate my chips and ate a slice of my son's undercooked pizza just so I had some form of dinner to eat (regretted that decision as I spent an hour on the toilet when we got home and had severe tummy cramps all night). My partner went to the bar to get us all another drink and was told that they had then run out of the small bottles of prosseco, surely the lady at the bar could see when we got there they didn't have enough and I could have ordered a large bottle instead (I only didn't as wasn't expecting to be there that long). So I had a gin and slimline tonic, which as the tonics aren't kept in the fridge the ice melted very quickly so it was disgusting. My partner went to pay at the end, I'd already gone to sit in the car as I was pretty annoyed with the whole situation and he said he only paid for the children's meals and the drinks and ours had been taken off the bill. All in all it was a very sad end to what had been a lovely day out for our 7 year old who had his birthday last Wednesday.I'd never want to give a bad review for a local business but this was really shocking and needless to say we won't visit here again. I know the pubs have had it really tough this year but there is no need for poor service and poor quality food.

I fell in love with " The Blue Remembered Hills" when I hiked through as a ' boy scout' in 1960.I have visited the area 'off and on' since then and occasionally eat & drank at ' The Crown'.I even moved to Shropshire and met my wife there because of the glorious scenery and ambiance. After 40yrs in Staffordshire my wife & I moved to Kent 8 years ago but still revisit Shropshire every summer In 2019 we lunched at " The Crown" were so impressed that this year we booked 3 nights B & B.We have been throughky refreshed and delighted with our stay very comfortable and clean rooms ,excellent food ( especially ' full english'breakfast and speciality main course pies - worth a 400 mile round trip for!) friendly and attentive staff plus at this ' Covid19' scrupulous attention to all details of hygeine and social spacing. All this AND those ' blue remembered hills'Absolutely Delighted us both

Lovely pub out in Wentnor. Superb setting - old rustic, down to earth pub with friendly staff and a good selection of real ales. The food is heavenly! Particularly their pies...has to be the best steak and ale pie I’ve had without a shadow of a doubt. Top drawer.

We stayed in room 1 on a Friday night. For a “pub with rooms” the standard of accommodation was amazingly good. The room was modern, comfortable and well equipped but without sacrificing any of the rustic charm of the building. The drinks tray was sumptuously stocked. We’ve never seen so many of those little milk cartons! The owners are charming and warm and made us feel very welcome. We had been worried that a pub in a tiny hamlet in Shropshire might be lacking atmosphere in the evening, but not so. It was buzzing. We sat by the log burner and when the very good and generous portions of food arrived we congratulated ourselves on making a really good choice of accommodation. We are not early birds and went up to our room for the night around a quarter past midnight. It was still noisy in the bar and the problem with our room was that it was directly above it. So when we got upstairs the noise transmitted to our room was very loud. At first we weren't too fussed as we thought that by 1.00 am the bar would certainly be cleared. But at 3.00 am the party was still in full swing. And then one of the revellers (we presume) set the fire alarm off. That at least stopped the party. With last orders for breakfast at 9.00 am it meant we got less than 5 hours sleep. We raised the issue in the morning and sadly got no apology but just an explanation that sometimes it’s tricky to get people out of the bar (suggesting this wasn’t a one off). The breakfast, by the way, was excellent. In conclusion if you are here on a Sunday to Thursday you’ll probably have no problem. But if it’s a Friday or Saturday and the two rooms at the back (which we were told are much quieter) aren’t available then you may be better going elsewhere.

Now and again you come across a gem of a pub, stayed only the one night, fantastic hospitality, homely wood burner, food was faultless, wonderful friendly ambience about the whole place. Our only reservation was that we could not stay longer, but rest assured we will be back soon! Thank you Andy and Vanessa for such a warm welcome and making our stay so special.

They offered the full menu, we opted for lasagne, roast pork and roast beef - all delicious. The Crown is positioned in a beautiful village at the foot of the Long Mynd and definitely worth a visit - you will not be disappointed!Thank you!

Very hard to find half roast duck (a favourite tastey meal) on menus - only the Crown Inn and another location came up on my search of Shropshire pubs. Both the meal and the Crown surpassed expectations. Lovely pub and location, excellent duck, great service and value for money. Also do great pies (my wife had the Steak and Ale) and a varied menu catering for all tastes. Highly recommended.

We visited The Crown whilst in the area after looking at reviews on Trip Advisor and were not disappointed....The Crown was warm and cozy, even my husband who is a self confessed Christmas Humbug commented on the beautiful Christmas decorations! The table we were initially offered was on the way to the toilets, the staff (and customers) were wonderful and offered us another one next to the log burner... very cozy. The menu was comprehensive with loads of wonderful food to choose from - we were not disappointed, starters and main course were all really tasty - home cooked fresh mushrooms in a light wine sauce and deep fried brie followed by their lovely homemade chicken and mushroom pie and a giant yorkshire pud with sausages. The veg was tasty and seasonal. Our only regret is that we didn't have room for pudding and book a room for the night to make our stay longer. We will be back!

Although it was quiet on a wet midweek lunch time we were made very welcome. Proper Pub grub freshly cooked and piping hot with seasonal veg. And proper pies. A bit off the beaten track but worth it

We are a Shropshire based classic car group and on a recent Sunday about 20 cars had a run out into the Shropshire countryside ending up at The Crown Inn at Wentnor for a late lunch. The food was plentiful and very good. There is always a good atmosphere at The Crown which serves really good pub food and real ale and they also do bed and breakfast if you want to stay over.

What is there not to really like about this lovely pub? A very warm welcome greeted us on arrival and throughout our stay - nothing was ever too much trouble. Add to this very comfortable accommodation and huge very tasty breakfasts that were enough to keep us going nearly all day before returning to the pub to choose from a wide-ranging, delicious evening menu. All we had to do during our stay was to enjopy ourselves!! Next time we are looking for accommodation in this part of Shropshire we won't look any further than The Crown Inn Pub which we highly recommend. Many thanks to Andy and Vanessa for a super stay.

I visited the Crown yesterday (27/10/19) with family. Service and food were second to none and the portions were very generous. The steak was cooked perfectly as were the scampi and other included items. It was most definitely excellent value for money and I won't hesitate visiting again when I'm next in the area. Highly recommended.

Great find while staying in Church Stretton. Visited to celebrate my mum's birthday. Pub owners very welcoming and the pub a classic village pub. Really good menu. Large portion sizes but all really good quality. My wife says the ploughman's was one of the best she has had and my pie was great (they are famous for there pies). We did not have much room for puddings but did find some room to share a couple and they did not disappoint. Classic puddings but really great. Definitely worth a trip out if you are in the area.

Booked from reviews found and not disappointed. We needed a family meal for my father-in-laws birthday which fell whilst we were away in Shropshire. A quick search of trip adviser and the Internet led us to book the Crown Inn. Have to say the food was both plentiful and very tasty. The service was good and at no point did we feel neglected or rushed. Excellent value for money, would not hesitate to recommend.

Lovely comfortable break in cozy surroundings, clean, well appointed en-suite room with lovely breakfast and wide choice of meals. It is convenient for walking or touring and the hosts and all the staff were so helpful and welcoming. Some rooms are kept free of dogs so double check availability when booking but they can be with you at all mealtimes if well behaved. Good outside areas too. The pub closes some afternoons so, again, discuss check-in times and access ahead, but I am sure you will have few problems.

While staying nearby in a cottage in Wentnor this pub was on our doorstep and recommended by the owner. We visited it twice in a two week stay but could have gone more in reality, On the first visit we all ordered a starter and main course. But I couldn't fit in the main course as the portions are so generous. Second time missed the started but still the main course was sufficient for me, others had two courses. We can thoroughly recommend the sea bass, fish pie and cod and chips. The staff were all friendly and food good value and delicious.

Visited this lovely country pub following recommendations from neighbours. The menu is small but full of home made dishes. As a group of 4 we enjoyed chicken and Stilton pie and vegetables, gammon, sweetcorn, chips and pineapple, chilli con carne and a really meaty pork chop, chips and peas. Really good home cooked food so much better than the normal pub grub. It also means the menu changes regularly. Sensibly priced making eating out a pleasure. Desserts just had to be tried. The whisky bread and butter pudding was suitably named and the apple crumble with custard was a winner too. The Sunday roast advertised at £9.30 will have to be tried another weekend. Delicious home cooked food is always so much better than bought in dishes. We praised the chef and June for a lovely warm welcome and a great meal.

I must echo the views of others. A really lovely restaurant spoiled by sparrows landing on the the table where cakes are being cut and on uncleared tables. Very unhygienic - there must be a way to stop them coming into the tearooms. Never encountered it anywhere else. Health and safety would have a field day!
