This pub is a friendly well run pub with delicious food not just chain pub grub but homemade lovely lovely food with a great menu , everything is outstanding from the drinks and food to the friendly bar staff definitely will come back here

Decided to give The Crown a try as had heard good things from the locals. We called in on a Tuesday evening so it wasn't particularly busy. Friendly staff, traditional setting but the food exceeded expectations! A return visit is a definite!

Fantastic food and excellent staff. Staying at a local campsite with our kids. Ate at the pub every night. The specials board is a real treat and the main menu was excellent. Friendly staff were very attentive and chef came out to check on everyone after service. It’s these touches that make a place stand out. Cannot recommend the good enough. If you’re staying near by definitely book this place!

Unfortunately, the menu at this pub did not seem to be as advertised on the website. Maybe the chef has changed. The worst bit of the visit was the food poisoning - one of our group. The other three enjoyed the meal. The pub has been contacted about the food poisoning but has not replied.

I ventured here tonight with my little dog in tow, and I wasn’t disappointed. The food was divine and the service was 5 star. Can’t thank the staff for making me feel so welcome, definitely worth a visit.

Had a great night at the Crown when the local football team won the league. We visited from a local caravan site and we are not football fans at all but these lads were soooo funny. The landlord who always recognises us when we go in, was most apologetic about the noise and kindly put us in a quieter area to eat. Other locals came to check that we were not too disturbed by the noise but we really weren’t, we were greatly entertained by a group of lads who were celebrating but not swearing or being offensive. The food was great as always and we felt very much included in the celebrations and after all, that’s what a village pub should be.

+ Nice surroundings, good choice of beers, spirits etc - food was average at best and represented poor value for money against other local pubs we tried. Overall, its not top of the list of pubs i would recommend in the Eden area. This was our second visit under the new owners and unfortunately the seond visit was no better than the first. Whilst the menu was appealing, the dishes we ordered (mains and desserts) did not prove to be either astounding or an exciting experience. A real shame.

Sunday lunch disappointing for £18. 1 slice of carrot, 1 slice of parsnip, small portion of cabbage, mash and 2 roasties, meat was dry and yorkshire pud was not homemade.

Family meet up and meal. Fantastic service, great food and a warm welcome. Friendly and well worth a visit.

Been to the pub 3 times now. Fantastic service every time, food is incredible. Recommended to everyone in the area. This is a must visit!

We are so lucky to have this as our local, it’s a fab little pub. Great atmosphere, food, selection of drinks. The staff and owners are all very friendly and attentive, they have fit us in for meals at short notice, nothing is too much trouble. Cosy atmosphere with an open fire, pool table upstairs. Specials menu changes regularly with a great selection. Would highly recommend!

Our first visit to The Crown and it didn’t disappoint us. There was a lovely warm welcome as we entered from Janet behind the bar. We had the Lamb and Venison Casserole from the specials board .. it was absolutely delicious. A friendly pub with a great feel about it. Thank you we’ll be back. 😊

Recommend a visit here. Visited a few times while on holiday. Small bar with good ales. Had steak and venison meals which were really lovely. Quiet and friendly, dogs welcome outside of eating times.

I think I’ve found the perfect pub! My friend and I stopped here for lunch en route to Scotland. Despite the pub being full to the brim with diners, and despite our damp motorcycle clobber we were welcomed and found a table near the open fire. The staff were cheerful, helpful and friendly and … most important of all - the food was delicious!!!

We most enjoyed your hospitality last night. The owners made us extremely comfortable outside for a table for three with our dog Lottie. The food service staff were extremely proficient and professional in dealing with our order. The food was presented creatively with a modern twist. Our customer expectations were exceeded throughout our meal occasion. It was a real delight to experience not just a great meal but some fantastic hospitality. Your staff are a great asset to your business. Lovely pint of Wainwright too.

We met with friends for first time in ages - staying at Howscales Cottages nearby. Amazing fish and chips and everyone's food was wonderful.

It was a joy to spend time in the Crown. The fire was on when we were in there. The ale was wonderful. Hard to fault this lovely place but I do have one criticism which is that inane piped music is played in there....

We had been recommended " The Crown " as a place to eat on one of our weekends away and being a group of 14 of us - knew that we wouldn't be able to just turn up and expect tables on a Saturday ....

Called "on spec" for an impromtu drink after a long drive. Beer was well kept and very welcome, in a nice environment. Pretty outside too in the cobbled village square.

There was eight of us so between us we tried everything on the menu.very high quality by this Italian owned inn. We were all blown away by the dish we chose. The staff were really good. We will certainly be going back.

We have been to the Crown many times and each time the food has been fantastic and very good value for money(especially steak night on a Thursday). Not only than but the building itself is very appealing and set in the most beautiful Eden valley village square.

Nos detuvimos para almorzar en base a su entrada en la Guía de Good Beer del Reino Unido. El servicio fue fantástico y conocimos al chef. Tuve una comida fabulosa seguida de un increíble desierto bañado por una pinta de cerveza Cumberland Ale y un vaso de Pinot Grigio. Gr 8 selección de ginebras que mi compañero probó. Definitivamente regresaremos.

The staff are friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, there is an amazing choice on the menu, great quality meal, very generous portions. The shoulder of lamb was melt in the mouth tender, the pork streaks and black pudding in a blue cheese sauce was full of flavour the pork steaks were moist and tender, the best black pudding ever! The pizzas being served to a neighbouring table looked and smelt amazing. I am sorry I was only passing through the area, but if I am in the vicinity again I would definitely make a detour to enjoy the warmth and hospitality and the scrummy food.

Had salmon ‘steak’ in sauce which turned out to be a piece of fillet, chips and salad, but bit too much sauce and prawns were a bit firm. If there was less sauce the chips and salad could have been served in the plate rather than in separate tea cups.

Ambiance and welcome amazing. Service by Alice was superb. She was busy but made time to chat and make us feel really welcome. The beer was really good.

We have eaten at the Crown a few times as a family and have always been impressed with the quality and variety of food on offer.

Stumbled across this gem completely by accident. The menu had so many options that were right up my street. Love the Italian influence. Food was completely top notch, and staff were friendly. I am usually a bit of a food snob but I really couldn't fault this spot, and will definitely be back. 5 star

Ten seated for a very pleasant couple of hours in cosy friendly relaxed pub.

Good food and beer, the specials and pizza were excellent,and the bar staff very entertaining and friendly. best to book a table for a guaranteed place. Also do a raring trade in take out food.

We stopped here for lunch on the journey home from a New Year break, and it was a great choice. The pub is warm and traditional with a friendly welcome and great service. The food itself was excellent (I would recommend the Cumberland sausage and mash) and very reasonably priced. The only downside is that we had to leave to continue the journey home instead of settling in for a few pints and just enjoying the atmosphere.

We have a caravan nearby and visit The Crown for a meal at least once during our stay. Always a warm and friendly welcome. Lovely atmosphere. The food is wonderful. Especially the pasta and pizza dishes. We visited on Monday evening with family for a meal. We didn’t realise until the following morning that my daughter left her iPad under her seat. I massaged the pub via Facebook early the following morning and got a response instantly advising it was safe and we could collect it during the day even thought the pub wasn’t open. Tony had also got in touch where we were staying. A local resident also attempted to find us in his car that evening. When we collected it the following day Tony had even charged it for my daughter to use on our long journey home. How thoughtful. This place is a little gem. We will see you next season!!. Thanks again for going above and beyond.

Visited with family hasnt booked but recieved excellent service. Lamb shoulder fell off the bone. Large choice on menu and we were all pleased with our meals.

Full marks for service (properly attentive staff, friendly and prompt) and food (good steak night Thursdays with Sirloin, Tuna, Swordfish or Salmon) extremely good, with fun menus in the form of interesting variety of large old picture books. Rather noisy (evening bar, also one noisier group near us when we were there), awkward parking, but very highly recommended nonetheless.

Visited twice over a long weekend, once just for a drink and went back to eat after a bad experience at a different venue!

It’s very rare in the UK to find world class food, and I mean top notch, 5 star hotel standard dinning in a beautiful, quaint and friendly pub.

Arrived here unannounced was warmly welcomed in a quaint traditional old pub/ restaurant. It was surprisingly busy for a Monday evening, but the helpful staff found us a beautiful table for 4 within minutes. The menu was an amazing mix of traditional pub food mixed with a blend of Italian restaurant. We chose quickly and were served promptly - the food was truly delicious- the crab spring rolls delicious, the king prawns in garlic and chilli were truly amazing, the best I have had in years. The spare ribs were equally fabulous. The main courses were served promptly and yet again more delicious food arrived- the special duck was cooked to perfection and the slow cooked lamb was second to none. We have lived in Cumbria for 2 years and this has been far the best meal we have had since living here.

Family meal for daughter’s birthday. Great menu, some lovely choices and excellent quality. Great service. Well stocked bar. Highly recommended, will definitely be back!! Thanks to Ant and all the staff, see you again soon.

Stayed in Kirkoswald for a few days and visited the pub on a couple of occasions both for food.

Called in by chance yesterday with my hubby and in laws. Staff were really friendly and made us feel welcome. Lots to choose from on the menu and a specials board too. We all opted for the fish and chips and weren’t disappointed. Fish cooked to perfection batter not to thick, fluffy and light. Chips were ok. But the mushy peas? What can I say they were to die for, the best I’ve ever had. Id definitely go back even if it was just for a bowl of the mushy peas lol x

We eat here quite regularly and always have excellent food and good friendly service. Kirkoswald is a lovely village too.

We visited the crown in for food, as we were on holiday, we had our dog with us. Dogsvere not allowed inside we were also told that they wouldn't served us outide and couldn't accommodate us until after 8pm. We fund the owner to be rude and unhelpful and won't be returning.

The food was outstanding. Was a it pricey when we looked at menu but once it came wow! Worth every penny. Lots of it and delicious. Fab staff and a lovely cosy pub.

9 of us visited here on a Friday night. Reserved a table and were not disappointed. Every meal was different and excellent. Quality and quantity of each dish were very good. 3 children's meals were excellent too. All staff were very friendly and the pub had a very friendly atmosphere. Would highly recommend a visit.

We called in here as a family when we were staying in the area. The lunch we had was enjoyed by all, lovely food, nicely presented and served by friendly and pleasant staff. I had the steak ciabatta which I can honestly say was the nicest I have had. Would love to come back if we are in the area again.

The decamp of my usual dining companion means visits to the Crown had halted for a while. However our return was no disappointment the standard as high as ever and "pub grub" it isn't! The menu is as original and varied as ever.

Went to the crown on valentines night for a meal with my partner,the food was gorgeous really enjoyed it!Even managed to squeeze in the homemade cheesecake which again was lovely. Highly recommend!!

Called in for dinner early in the week, in January and the place was packed!

Travelling up the M6 on our way to Edinburgh we used trip advisor to look for somewhere to get dinner en route.

We have eaten here on a mid week lunch, Saturday evening and Sunday lunch times and drank in here.

Visited for drinks during last visit to kirkoswald lovely friendly atmosphere, good selection of ales, didn’t eat here but our friends who are local highly recommend it, we will be back x

Called in for lunch whilst tracing family history. Good down to earth food from Mary and plenty of banter with Ken. This is a nice old pub, in a great little place. Go visit the church and see the medieval wall paintings.

Real Olde Pub it's walls oozing with history and folk lore. The food is out of this world yet reasonably priced and it's menu as refreshingly different and varied as I have ever seen in a Pub. Booked again for this sunday evening can't wait!

Fab service - all requests happily accommodated and the staff were just lovely. The food was delicious - and we ordered a range of dishes from the pasta to the slow cooked lamb shoulder and everyone in our party ate absolutely everything! Really liked the inspired menu presentation and the wall paper in the ladies too. Would highly recommend.

Called in for a quick drink one afternoon after walking from local campsite, due to having a dog we sat outside in the peaceful village. As we sat there a few of the friendly locals came out and chatted to us, making us feel very welcome. The pub is only small and serves large rang of beers. as we didn't eat here i cannot comment on their food but we were told that it is very good.

The food in this pub is out of this world! I had the best chicken Milanese that I have ever eaten! My husband had chicken carbonara, again delicious. My daughter had pizza, freshly made & to die for!

Had the lamb, and partner had sea bass, "the best ever" we were both very satisfied and equally impressed with both the food and service. Highly recommended and can't wait to eat out again.

My husband and I first went to this pub in 2003 and got engaged. 13 years later we still love this pub. Great hosts, staff and locals, fab atmosphere and wonderful food, especially the specials. Going for Sunday lunch in two days, can't wait!

What a gem of a pub. Steaks all round for us, cooked exactly to our requirements, served by friendly staff, quickly and efficiently. Joy to call, but book our table, as calling on spec at this time of year. Can't praise enough.

The Crown provides restaurant quality meals in a pub environment, at pub grub prices. I have eaten here many times and can always be guaranteed an excellent meal served by attentive staff. I cannot find fault, and love the excellent value for money.

I myself and my partner visit the crown inn,kirkoswald atleast twice a week and can guarantee a perfect and excellent meal and service. The food is far from bland and Tony the chef is one of the most amazing chefs I have ever met. I would highly recommend this pub to everyone, please disregard the below negative comment.

Magic atmosphere, made to feel welcome, every one wants to chat. Brilliant staff, can't do enough. Felt like a local after first visit.

Went to Kirkoswald to dine at the pub across the road, but it was too full, so we decided to check The Crown Inn out. My husband ordered deep friend Whitebait, which he enjoyed, but I wish he hadn't... as when we received our onion rings with our main meal they tasted rather fishy. I could not eat them, and the chef assured me that if he made new ones they would taste the same, as it would be fried in the same oil.

We live locally (a few villages away), and had been invited for an impromptu meal out one Friday night by friends (they booked the table)

Came here for a 50th birthday celebration of an old school friend of my wife's. The pub is owned by an Italian family who have combined the best of a small Cumbrian pub with their own culinary skills. I had a rib eye steak and my wife had carbonara. My steak was really very good and my wife, who doesn't have the biggest of appetites ate most of the large serving of carbonara which, in my experience, is really a testament to the quality of food. The atmosphere might get a little rowdy towards the latter parts of the evening but it's all good Cumbrian hospitality. Service was excellent and the cost was extremely reasonable. The village is a bit out of the way and we'd probably had not experienced this pub if it weren't for the birthday but we're glad we did and we will certainly return.

What a lovely meal in a very friendly pub. The food was fantastic, the staff very help and great with both the kids and adults. Worth a visit and we will be back!

I love coming here for dinner it's so warm and friendly as well as amazing food. Never disappoints always fantastic my personal favourite the carbonara best i have ever had

Called in here for dinner one evening. The staff are lovely and we enjoyed the banter. The food was very tasty indeed. I'd be keen for sauces and gravy to be put in little jugs on the side, rather than drowning the lovely food at the outset. The portion sizes were generous, and the steamed veg was fabulous!

Been to the Crown before and decided to go back with the children and my elderly father. We were met by a tall dark haired barmaid who told us that they had a family table available so we sat and ordered two Sunday dinners a steak sandwich and fish and chips. The food arrived very quickly and was hot, tasty and plenty of it. My father accidently spilled his drink which was replaced without extra charge and was no trouble to the staff who at all times very helpful and friendly. Overall very impressed and very reasonable in a pub that has lost none of the old world charm and original features that so many pubs have lost. We'll be back soon.

I had been to the Crown shortly after Tony came back and had a lovely meal, but had not been since (sad single, don't get out much...!!) but I had heard on the local jungle drums that it was pretty darned good. I had a friend staying at the weekend so off we went - nothing could have prepared us for the excellence of the pizzas we both had - dough crisp and soft in all the right places,piping hot, and so, so tasty. Clearly, there is consummate attention to detail in the kitchen. And you know how you look at everything going out to tables, often thinking "ooh I wish I had ordered that..." - well, we shall definitely go back and should really try some of the other offerings next time, though I don't know if I can bear not to repeat the pizza! Terrific. Superb value too. And the pub was jumping, too ... A lovely atmosphere. Loved the mini bottles of Prosecco - genius...

Informal and relaxed, the food is excellent and menus changed to match availability of fresh produce..well worth ordering the specials. You can enjoy anything from a full 3 course meal to a simple but excellent thin base pizza. Worth booking ahead as the pub gets busy. Ales well kept and a decent selection of wine also.

Visited here when we stayed in Staffield, Staff were really friendly and helpful. Food was brilliant, and reasonably priced. Had Steak followed by Sticky toffee pudding, both were to die for. Would recommend this place.

Small and very friendly village pub offering an extensive variety of ales and a very good menu. The meals very served in good time even though we were a party of eight. The food was hot, good quality and reasonably priced. Staff were excellent.

Three female members of staff working in the bar/restaurant. One lady (short hair never left the bar) was enough to make us want to leave without ordering. The second seemed less confident but helpful and pleasant. Thankfully the third lady (tall, slim, long dark hair. Sorry I don't know her name) saved the experience. She had a smile on her face, spoke clearly and answered any question we and any other table she served had.

Visited early evening with my daughter as we were staying close by. The staff were very friendly and the food good.

Took family friends here whilst camping/caravanning nearby. The locals and staff had already made our respective better halves welcome the day before whilst they recovered from their tent battles with a beer, so they were happy to return.
