Got to be the best staff in derby, such a laugh everytime I come in. 10/10 staff, a must visit in derby town centre

Don't even know where to begin... this happened on the night of the 26th of April I'm visiting Derby very often, usually with our little friend group. This is the first time ever where I had such a negative and disgusting experience in LGBTQ venue. From the very beginning, when we entered the bar and one your members of staff who was behind the bar, quite tall and wore glasses, dark short hair - have given us dirty looks, no smile, no hello, just miserable, clear as day we could all tell that looked quite dissatisfied, but not sure whether that was to do with us, or he just had a bad day or who knows what was on his mind. But because we are eastern europeans, we are usually not bothered by this because a lot of this is seen in our culture as normal. Okay, so the night continued and obviously we didn't put too much thought to this at the beginning and when we had been returning to bar after drinks, shots etc. Barman, did not change in his attitude towards us, so eventually this has become quite the standard for him to treat us and make us feel very unwelcome, we tried avoiding ordering with him but not always this was possible. Just few hours later, I got approached by a friend and he said that my partner of 9 years who I know very well, got kicked out of the bar? Like what? I was shocked and quickly collected my belongings, told it to our other friends that he got kicked out, and let's go out and see what is going on, why etc? I have never heard any more stupid explanation from the security guard about my partner (being rude, by not saying please) Can't express how disgusted I felt, because my man is a like labrador retriever, he never causes any trouble, to anyone, anywhere. And when he told us the situation( he ordered a drink with a lady behind the bar, and then the other barman had interfered and said in a rude voice and raised tone - MAYBE PLEASE? On which he responded that first of all I'm not talking to you, and secondly I said please. Then my partner took the drinks and joined us, when few moments later security guard approached him and escorted to the exit, and when he asked why, he told that you have to leave, you were rude) Obviously I had to come to conclusion that the barman had clearly hated on him or us from the very beginning when we entered the bar. Please, sort out this staff member, put him on some hospitality course and teach them how he should be treating people/customers who make business for the sake of yours. And maybe if you care for this situation at all - ask the girl who was serving him and whether he was rude and unreasonable to the point of being kicked out of the bar! & even if he wouldn't have said please at any point (which was not the case) is ridiculous reason to kick out somebody from the bar, knowing that he never caused any trouble and had group of friends with them which would leave with him, is showing some sort of hate towards us as a group and I have explained that we got this vibe from him at the very beginning. When we were all out, the barman and security guard have chit chatted and had a cigarette next to us, and the barman with glasses was just laughing at us, went to have a look at us being kicked out. Disgrace, I don't know whether the security guard and him just wanted to have fun and show some power and acted like little offended boys, but whatever it happened and we surely won't be returning until somebody from your establishment can reach out and apologise for the experience we've been through!

My friend was kicked out of the pub because he didn't say "Please" when he asked about water. That was new guy at the bar, never seen him before.

Came to visit my friends in Derby, decided to browse some clubs around so we decided to go to The Crown, from beginning one on bar members was giving weird vibe but wasn't bothered just went there to have some fun, but night finish horrible, was accused for being rude and get kicked out, disappointing experience, was ordering drink when one of the bar member come and said that I was rude and I didn't even say please , I wasn't even talking to him in first place, he came from no where and start accusing me , hi made me looks like I making trouble, I was in shock , so never ever been in such a situation, after that I went back to friends where security approach me and told me to leave.........dont even living here , just want to have some fun with friends but the way I was treated there by this guy is disgusting not sure what I even done, customer skills 0 if I could give him I will definitely not leave this like that as I know my rights.

What a gem of a bar, situate at the top of curzon st, a two minute walk from the city centre. Excellent prices & sunday is massive promotions and drink offers. A huge beer garden to the rear, a must visit gem of a bar.

Great atmosphere, great staff, don't understand why people would say that the service is bad and that its not managed properly, well your wrong, yer just stuck up, it's a great night out and the staff are outstanding and polite and happy, some people don't know a good thing when they see it.

Good service and drinks are OK but like most LGBT+ places, it's gross, the toilets are always grim which I've never understood 🤷🏽‍♂️ If you want people to support the community, up your game!

We had a fantastic time at The Crown last night and cannot thank the staff enough. We were a group of 40+, mostly asylum seekers, all volunteers at a charity in Derby. The bar staff were so helpful and patient while we did our neverending drinks orders. And when a drunk man was abusive and racist to one of our group, the security staff handled it brilliantly. The man was thrown out, his photo taken and shared with nearby bars who didn't even allow him to enter. We can't wait to go again. Thank youuuuuu!

Great atmosphere, good drink and good value

Derby's only Gay bar, but very firendly for anyone visiting. Great team of staff and great outside area. Sundays is cheap drinks, Mondays Kareoke and Thursdays is quiz night.

Sells off beer that is vinegar. Took the 3 pints pints of Brakspear back, they refused to swap or refund and insisted I pay for another round as I ‘didn’t like it’. This is illegal - you cannot sell out of date beer and shrug ‘I’m not an ale drinker’.

Was on a coach trip from Blackpool staying at jury's Inn Darby,went to this bar with my partner to see what it was like on sat , fantastic bar and great staff made us welcome ,music was great , guy in bar took us personally round to show us other bars in the area as well ,can't wait to come back ,well done guys ,this is a bar u must visit xx

I just need and want to say that the barmaid Sydney, was so lovely and genuine. I cannot fault her at all and the rest of the staff. Such a god night :)

Me and a few friends went for the Curzon Street Party , we bought drinks from The Crown, which were fabulous and refreshing. The staff were all super friendly and very welcoming. Loved the outdoor seating, will definitely be back again.

Its a must if your in or passing Derby. I have been going in here a good number of years far more than im willing to admit. But I can honestly say the owners have made a absolutely fantastic job of a total refurbishment. Two very large outdoor seating areas with under cover and heating too for those wet chilly nights. Staff are first class. Security are top class. Very safe and welcoming venue. Well done to to all the staff and the owners of the crown for a fantastic venue

Been there mid week and weekend slow service and bad management. Don't waste your time. Waited for an hour for service last Saturday.

Was sat at the end of the bar happily till 11 until the "regulars" arrived to reclaim their area. 4 blokes stood around you when the rest of the place is empty? Used to be great years ago. If this were my 1st time I'd never go to a gay bar again. Shame on you cliquey crowd.

Totally disappointed first time visit never would visit again 30 minutes to get served only 2 working the bar hoover only around 10 people in the place. Clientele ridiculous and should have security on overall a shambles would not recommend.!!!

This little gem is discrete, warm and welcoming. Happy, friendly staff are on hand to answer any questioned about local places to eat or for entertainment (panto etc) as well as able to serve you with your favourite tipple. A great pub, doing just what you need a pub to do.
