The Blue Stoops in North East Derbyshire

Having eaten here before on many occasions, and different times of the day - I noticed a reduced number of staff . There was a push to use the table QR code to order , and pay for food . Spent a very frustrating 15 minutes trying pay using this digital ordering & payment method , but card was rejected several times ( No fault of payment card ). Which meant we had to Summon the Manager to take the order the olde fashion “Human Interaction” method - This worked first time . Food arrived in a timely manner and was very good , but not outstanding. I have had better meals here , but would have to put this down to lower than normal staffing levels . The atmosphere is always good here , and ideal for small Or large gatherings . Beer selection was not inspiring , and is very expensive ( would seem this price increase is across all establishments in the UK ) . Dog friendly , which is always a plus , and one of the staff provided my dog with a treat and fresh water .

Lacey was really friendly and gave us great service. We used the website to order and pay and it was very easy. We loved the variety of options for food and drink. We were visiting for the Bank Holiday weekend and enjoyed it souch we ate dinner there twice.

Harry served us tonight and we had excellent customer service and good understanding of little ones, as well as offering the kids a colouring kit too, the food was amazing and me and my dad had The BBQ Kebabs which were amazing! Come here if you want excellent customer service!☺️☺️☺️☺️

Very average across the board. I was served a pint of Cornish cider that tasted like public swimming pool water from the 70's.

Great pub...food is very hit and miss...but the staff we politely gave me a refund...the food looks so good but it tastes awful.

Called in for some food tonight under recommendation and was massively disappointed. Young staff like robots with no customer service understanding or training. Wait time on mains only order was an hour. We ordered trio of burgers and a ribeye, I ordered an off menu but simple side of veg and waitress looked at me like I was asking for the moon but hey ho… I understand it wasn’t on the menu. All 3 burger meats were burnt to a crisp, black and tasted like the grill hadn’t had a good clean in a long time. The ribeye was ordered with Red wine sauce, I wasn’t told they had run out of red wine sauce until the food arrived and was asked to order a different one which I refused. When I asked to pay I wasn’t given the bill but the card machine with an amount on… I later found out we had paid for the sauce. Without sounding like a Karen it was disappointing all round and I won’t be going back.

Excellent food, fancy cocktails, quite expensive but ok once in a while! Lots of young people working here. Card only 😕 Modern.

Lovely pub. Amazing food the Cajun Chicken burger was delicious the flavours blended perfectly. Finished off with the cookies and ice cream, delicious and a very reasonable price for a dessert. The server was very friendly and really put us at ease and had a chat with us. I will be returning.

Visited on a Sunday evening, family of four. Understaffed, but managed to remain a good experience. Our waiter apologised for the understaffing but remained attentive. We were greeted quickly, ordered soon after (two kids), food came out quicker than expected and was to a great standard. The only negative would be the prices which I think were around 10% above what they should be. All in all we would return if in the area.

Head to Stoops often as its a reliable, nice place for food in Dronfield. Staff are always super freindly and the food is good and well priced.

I went back last night after my last great meal there for my partner's daughters bday meal. Yet again absolutely fabulous food and service. Might be a bit more pricey than some places but they do superb food there! 😃👍😋😋😋😋

The food was a mixed bag. Very tasty starters (we chose the small yakatori). However, the Mongolian beef and the honey chili fries were too sweet and not at all spicy. The korean steak also lacked spice, though the meat was good quality and generous. The Japanese colslaw was not inspired and overpriced. Excellent beers, cocktails, etc.

Went in Thursday night. Amazing food as always Waitress who was on that night was doing all orders, fetching drinks and food while training up the bar man. What a fantastic member of staff you have in her. Thanks for a lovely evening 😊

Our meal was really tasty, the ceaser salad side was a particular standout. Service was great and the pub started to get busy from 1pm onwards for the dinner rush. The menu is extensive and offers something for everyone with an east asian twist.

The food is really good, a beautiful welcoming place, very helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommended. I'll be back.

Had a tasty stroganoff here several months ago, ordered one again recently..the most tasteless thing I've eaten in a long while. Don't envisage visiting again

Not enough seats in bar all the pub is for food practically which seems to be a trade mark of Chilled Pubs! Bar staff not knowledgeable , when asked what flavour ciders they do he said he didn’t know and gave us a menu. Got a confirmation email of 9.15 for food then at 21:03 got an email saying my booking was at 21:00 (see pics)? I advised them I had dairy intolerance on my booking and at the check in and at the table, the waiter said ok then disappeared and I had to ask what can I eat? No Vegan Burgers available, none of the starters suitable for Dsiry Intolerance except a Prawn Yakatori stick. nothing festive suitable for Vegans or DI. For main I’d chose a Festive Burger with vegan cheese and no chicken as it was coated in buttermilk, the waiter advised I’d have an extra burger. When my burger arrived I cut it in half so as to be able to eat it better. There was a plain chicken steak which was very pink in the middle and a beef Pattie which looked like some sort of kibble and the food had an odd smell. I informed a passing waitress who asked me if I wanted it changing or redoing etc I obviously said I’d like a completely new one. She was very nice gave me a free drink and said the meal would be free. I ate the chips which were very greasy and waited for my new burger! All the other guests had finished when my new burger came so I asked if I could take it home. The nice lady gave me some free sorbet and fruit too from the chef. The waiter avoided eye contact all evening and we did not engage till we paid. See photos for evidence of food I took home. I could not eat this food.

Was really looking forward to our Christmas works do because we had been last year Service was awful Food was cold Had the staff even been trained in customer service? Food was finished by the time the sides came Not offered sauces etc and then when they arrived it was too late Cramped seating area felt really claustrophobic Really really disappointed which is a shame because was looking forward to it

We were a party of 10 to celebrate my wife's 70th birthday. Apart from having to return my wife's main meal as it came out tepid, the management quickly changed it for a fresh meal. Not a cheap dining out experience but the portion sizes more than made up for it. Everyone enjoyed the evening and a special thanks goes to Olly who went above and beyond to look after us throughout the evening. Thank you Olly you were great. Second time we've dined here and we would dine here again.

The food was fine but we found the menu a little limited. The lovely girl serving us couldn’t have been more helpful but our complaints are about the systems used by the Company which owns the Blue Stoops……. No working phone number, ridiculous! My friend then had to use the booking system and as she received no confirmation emailed 3 times to check, no reply. Another friend used the drop down contact list to check the booking time, no reply. Obviously we all turn up … no booking 🤔 but a lovely girl soon got us a table (it was very quiet). Then the payment… no cash, grrrrr! So we pay on card but we are told we aren’t able to add a tip and that it has to be the exact amount on the bill. Never heard that one before! Pathetic…. as we couldn’t leave tip for our waitress, the shining light of our visit. Such a shame.

Had an amazing meal tonight and our server, Hannah R, was amazing. Amazing food, amazing atmosphere and amazing service. Highly highly recommend. Hannah R, you’re great!!!

Lovely food and great service will definitely be back. Only negative would be the window bench type seat we were at was uncomfortable, I’m quite tall and was perched on the edge. LOVED the pick n mix when we paid the bill, great mix of sweets aswell!

Went for an evening meal. Put in a dining room, one of three I believe. It was all women, all talking so loud it's was difficult to have a normal conversation. The food was good, but not very much of it IMO. Didn't have a starter of a dessert, so can not comment on them. It's obviously a very popular pub, but the next visit, if there is a next visit, will be at lunch time. Might be able to have a more relaxing meal.

BEWARE.. Since visiting 3 years ago things have changed dramatically. Cash is not accepted, which rules out anyone who does not use a bank card. Surely cash is still legal tender. Perhaps the owners do not trust the staff. Cost of drinks is horrendously expensive 2 handpulled pints (London Pride only available) and 2 large white wines over £28.00. Plenty of pubs, which accept cash in Dronfield, are far better value. Town prices in a village pub

Booked the Blue Stoops for a wake. The venue opened early for us. The buffet was excellent. Well done for the 2 members of staff who looked after us.

Not been for many years, but will definitely be back soon, good service, great selection of beers and amazing food, will reccomend to others.

At relatively short notice we asked for a table for six, and thankfully we were accommodated. What an amazing evening we had, the atmosphere was relaxed, the staff were super friendly and explained everything without being overbearing. The young men who served us worked hard to ensure we enjoyed ourselves. And then came the food. Quick tip, go to the Blue Stoop hungry because the portions are very generous. As for taste I cannot mark it any lower than amazing, we had the fish and chips, but also the Yakitori sticks which were possibly the best thing I have ever tasted. We thought they were overpriced until they arrived. They were so good I wanted to eat it all, the portion was so huge I failed miserably. We visit Dronfield a few times every year, and this time we found Blue Stoops. This has now become our place to go for a highly enjoyable meal for friends.

Lacey and Gracie were absolute superstars, nothing was too much trouble, great service with a bit of banter thrown in for good measure, couldn’t be happier.

Great venue with really good food and great service to match

Can't thank the Blue Stoops enough for making a family reunion so special. The restaurant had a brilliant atmosphere, the food was amazing and despite being so busy all the staff had a smile on their faces. A massive cheers to James our waiter who went out of his way to help make our night memorable. Many thanks!! This restaurant is definitely to be revisited.

We live locally, so this is a great place to go for food, which is nicer than 'standard pub grub.' We took elderly parents, and they both enjoyed it too.

First time visiting this pub. After a long drive from Brighton for work. Lone patron they were friendly, welcoming, food top notch and fairly priced. Would highly recommend to anyone. Will be returning tomorrow

Tried this local restaurant for the first time and found a varied and interesting menu to pick from. All the dishes served to our table of 6 were tasty and well cooked, portion size and value for money were good also. Service was excellent. Thanks to all the team, we’ll be back!

The Blue Stoops is a lively and very popular pub. The food is excellent and the menu is not just your ordinary pub grub but some very lovely and imaginative dishes. It's mid priced and we ate here twice during our 4 night stay in Dronfield.

Cute local place, yummy cocktails. Recommend to try!

FANTASTIC food - although expensive they were huge servings. Strongly recommend the baked Camembert and the large chicken Yakitori. Good selection of beers Dog friendly within bar and outside, not restaurant Food arrived promptly

As a solo business traveller, I spend a lot of nights eating alone in restaurants. This means I have plenty of opportunities to experience and observe a pub/restaraunts offering. Whether eating alone, as a couple or as a party, I would THROUGHLY RECOMMEND The Blue Stoops for a meal/night out. The building is presented beautifully, with twinkling lights on the oak beams, accentuating the low ceilings and architecture. The service from Harry and Charlotte was efficient, unrushed (I had chosen a table for 6, but there was no indication that I needed to move on any time soon) and very friendly. Watching Harry (who only started working there 2 days ago) going from table to table with drinks and dishes, and Charlotte doing the same and, as hostess, glide between tables checking if everything was ok or if anyone needed anything more, was a delight. No one showed any indication that they were waiting for or annoyed at lack of service. The food was amazing! It is clear the Chef and supporting kitchen staff have a pride in what is produced. I had one of the Big Yakitori Sticks - the Big Sweet Chilli Chicken Stick, which was more than enough without the 2 sides that are included. The bar service was impeccable. There was such a lot of choice, I was spoilt. Then finally, on paying the bill, I was given a small paper bag of sweets to take away and enjoy. Such a sweet (excuse the pun) touch. I was reluctant to leave (but need to be fresh go the next day of meetings) and I’m hoping my company send me to the area again so I can go back to The Blue Stoops. 100 out of 10.

This establishment does not accept cash which I find as a company disgraceful when this is legal tender .. That’s the first reason I definitely would not return Secondly, the food was very average. The halloumi starter wasn’t fresh. The strawberries covered in chocolate were at least 24 hours old. The strawberries were soft inside, the porn star martini was the worst one I have ever had. Very poor

**Update ** 15th june 2024 ... back again and called in for a sandwich at lunchtime. Fillet steak sandwich with gorgonzola was amazing. Great service thanks to Hannah and her colleagues. When we visit dronfield it's becoming our place to go. **previously** The big yakatori stick were amazing. Big thanks to Courtney for looking after us so well.

Excellent cooky cocktails, plenty of selection and great quality! The food was perfect, even if I did fill up on cocktails first! Lovely atmosphere and beer garden with easy app ordering and quick service. We even got a happy anniversary dessert! Matt, our host/server was absolutely fantastic, what a lovely man, great at his job and an asset to the company. Thanks again matt!

Came in on a Thursday night for food, and couldn’t have been more impressed. The menu is varied and offers up some really interesting dishes, everything we had was superb. Good range of beers available and a general nice vibe around the place. Service was exceptional from start to finish - we were particular well looked after by Lisa in this instance but to be fair, the whole team were welcoming throughout. Marvellous place.

Another great Chilled Inn pub. Staff were brilliant and very friendly. No Pizza oven at this location though!

Had a lovely meal at the weekend, Courteny was our host and was absolutely fantastic and so attentive! For a pub, the food is exceptional, the portion sizes are great and a good variety of foods you would not normally expect from a Yorkshire pub. Will definitely be visiting again to try more items on the menu

A really cozy and warm atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and the food was amazing. Everything was made perfectly with rich flavours and cooked in perfect consistency.

Slightly more expensive than justified, but a wild menu, fabulous cocktails. Everyone was happy with our meals and will definitely be back.

The family and I visited The Blue Stoops following a recommendation from a friend. We were greeted at the bar and shown to our table straight away. The staff were polite and friendly, and the place had quite a good vibe. Unfortunately, that is the only good thing I have to say. The food was terrible. There were seven of us in our party, one ordered a burger which she found a large piece of plastic in. We reported this to one of the staff who to be honest didn't seem too bothered. We then got hold of a senior staff member who apologised and offered a free drink as compensation. We said we wouldn't pay for the burger and they agreed that was fair. Four others of us ordered the Big Yakitori Sticks, two bbq chicken, one sweet chilli chicken and one big kentucky stick, when they arrived and we started to eat them we did a bit of food swapping because we thought we had been served the wrong food, we then realised that they all tasted the same, bland flavourless chicken. None of them tasted of anything. Not wanting to cause a fuss, especially after the burger incident, we ate up, grumbling to ourselves. The big shock came after we had finally finished and were sat chatting about the bland food, I spotted what looked like a hair on the bottom of one of the metal skewers. On closer inspection, there were multiple strands on all of them. I took some photographs and went to find the member of staff that we saw about the plastic in the burger. When I explained what we had found and showed him the pictures, he went to find who I'm assuming was the manager. She looked at the pictures and said " Oh, that just looks like some of the metal strands from the scourers that we use to clean them, they don't look like hairs!" After a short conversation back at our table as to whether we had eaten hairs or metal strands from the scourers, and pointing out that the chicken had no seasoning on it, the manager said "what do you want me to do about it" we said we don't want to pay for the burger or any of the chicken meals, at which she agreed. I'm sorry to say that this was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had and would never recommend anyone to eat at this place.

First time we visited food was amazing, service was very slow had to chase for drinks. Second time we came for a friend's birthday having told them how nice the food was. How wrong could we have been? One meal served cold the second burnt, sent both back. Returned the cold food now hot, returned the burnt food raw!!! Thinking it's got to have been a different chef on each occasion. From the sublime to the down right awful in the space of 1 week is crackers. Not sure if we'll be returning.

Group of four glad we booked a table as it was very busy(sat teatime) excellent service great selection of beers and cocktails and amazing food not the cheapest gastro pub in the area but was worth every penny will definitely return

Newly renovated I have been twice both entirely different experiences. First time was a Friday night where it was packed out and impossible to even find a seat. Second time was on a Sunday where it was much quieter but still fairly busy. We have been back recently for my sons birthday and can say I was really impressed since it is under new ownership, the food was really tasty with good sized portions and the service was great 👍 I can highly recommend the sandwiches. The kids had a mocktail each which looked amazing and were reasonably priced.

Ate ther today, ordered, then was told no burgers...(should have been told this before hand) Ordered again order one came wrong, chicken burger came should have been a vegan burger, when it eventually came it wasn't cooked right still cold dhe left it. Dad ordered Turkey dinner he said it must have been standing in the kitchen since crimbo day, awful.....If I'd have ordered any of these they certainly would have known about it. Beef stroganoff we really thought we'd ordered adult portions not childrens ?..... Really disapointing we won't be rushing back....

Great place to eat. The hanging kebabs and the gelato are superb. Highly recommended.

There was plastic in one person's main meal and hair in two other people meal , Beyond this the starters and food themselves was very expensive for poor quality food cannot recommend in the least .

Not a drinking pub any more, but looks a very expensive eating place

Part of the chilled pubs group and the food is as good as all the rest. However we typically go to the joiners arm branch which personally is much friendlier and bigger feeling like more space to relax. Love that you can pay at table but it is needed given your lucky if you can park in their car park as it is tiny so had to find alternative close by and walk so keep this in mind. It is a little tight to get in and around not great accessibility but they have done a lovely job if the space just not for us and will make a longer trip to Derby instead.
