Was all going good sat at the bar having a nice pint of 49er and all I heard is a dog aggressively barking and then the next minute one of the waitress when into something (what look like a kitchen) saying has the dog bit you and she came back out of the kitchen and had a child/teenager following her and he said look the dog just bit me to the other waitresses (you could see there is visible teeth mark and I wasn’t even sat close) and then the waitress said it is not the first time this has happened. (I will not be returning back her ever) STEVE

Nick and I were trout fishing on a test carrier up the road and needed some sustenance at lunch so we pulled into the crown on a saturday lunchtime and were warmly welcomed and shown to a nice table in the garden where we had a great view of the thatched roof and a lovely little bird box occupied by wrens. Food and beer was great and the friendly staff made it a great atmosphere. Will definitely return.

If you want to sit in a pub garden, have a tasty and generous traditional sunday roast, and be served by attentitive and friendly staff - book a table! We booked on a bank holiday weekend which would clearly be busy and whilst there was a slight delay in our service this was preempted by complementary drinks before we had even realised! The staff are lovely, the food was really generous, unpretentious and tasty. Moderately priced, a no brainer if you want a casual and easy afternoon!

I feel I really must recommend The Crown Inn. I arrived with my friend to find that all the Covid 19 precautions were followed to the letter..plus some. Track and trace was in place and efficiently managed, a one way system was in place, the bar was behind a screen and all the staff wore the necessary protective equipment. We felt super confident ordering drinks and then were served a delicious and excellent value meal. It was hot, tasty and served by very friendly and polite staff. What an example they are to stay so professional and efficient, whilst maintaining a friendly and welcoming manner, in such challenging circumstances. The Crown Inn has become a favourite with us and some other pubs could maybe benefit from their example. Well done The Crown Inn. Visit with confidence.... they've got it covered.

Came to the crown the other day for some dinner and omg it was horrible food was cold, just chucked on a plate and had 3 hairs in it, when entering staff were very nice but when we said to the man behind the bar that became very rude like it was my fault the food wasn’t very good, the cutlery we had still had water marks on it and the knife I was given still had the last customers food on it, we spoke to a little blonde girl couldn’t be no more that 15 (witch if I’m wrong is agents the law) and she literally said sorry can’t help you and then walked away, we asked for are money back and the reply we got was no get out and don’t come back, to top the lot of when a man can out the kitchen in chef white he was picking his bum and a dog came out the kitchen, the owns should be very ashamed to have staff like this and even letting a dog in the kitchen is a breach of eho and can be shut down, there wasn’t any COVID protection in place (as far as I could tell) due to a look all man stand right next to me, after asking him to move away he sware and said I will stand we’re I like.... avoid this place like the plague

I am the other person who was affected on Friday 14th August. My friend and I just wanted somewhere nice to eat lunch but when we walked over to the table we wanted outside there was a large pile of dog mess, not just a little. We sat somewhere else and asked if it could be cleaned up. The man even admitted casually it was one of his own dogs that had done it and said "I checked it earlier but there was nothing". Surely these dogs shouldn't be allowed to wonder around the outdoor tables due to the risk of this happening. Thinking it was all cleared up we went back to the table where my friend stood in more - it was runny. So this man didn't check for more, otherwise he would have cleaned that up too. My friend had to go inside and ask for something to clean it off and was given a cloth and spray. I wonder if this dog mess has happened before or was this the very first time? It's the last thing you want to see when you are about to eat lunch. Your response says you cleaned her shoe - this is not true - she cleaned it herself. I took a photo of her while she was doing it. She shouldn't have to even be doing this whilst going out for lunch. We had to ask for the dirty cloth and spray to be taken away from us as it was leaving a horrid smell while we were having our drinks. You were lucky we even stayed and went on to order food. In your response you said she failed to mention the foods she was allergic to. Wrong again. She mentioned she had allergies and asked if she could have southern fried chicken in her bread with nothing else apart from chips and cucumber on the side. Why was this request not noted? So it had to be sent back. It seems like a simple request to me. Then I go on to find a hair in my food. I removed my large tomato slice from my burger and wiped it on there - we then took a picture of it. Yes, the staff did apologise but it was when we went in to ask for a partial refund things got worse. When I mentioned I found a hair the man replied "that doesn't even look like one of our plates". I felt so insulted. I tried to speak but he wouldn't let me get a word in edgeways so I couldn't even put my point across. Looking back I should have walked back into the gardens, picked my plate up and brought it in to show him. He wouldn't listen to me. Good customer service is you have to LISTEN to your customers. It was rude to speak over me and suggest I was lying about the hair - disgusting customer service. So no, I don't feel they dealt with it politely as you say in your response. He even said to my friend he would refund her meal but insinuated not mine. So the hair didn't matter on mine then? He also said we told him it was a long hair and in the picture it was a short one. That's because it broke up when I scraped it up but again, he didn't listen. Simple things that shouldn't have happened in the first place. I can tell from your response you are not sorry at all and again, I feel so insulted it was suggested that the hair and the plate was not from your pub. 3 separate problems and then poor customer service to follow.....disgusting.

This pub has changed little from when it was The Yew Tree. The interior is dated but fits with the overall image of the old inn. Meals are best described as average and the difference between 'medium' and 'small' should be explained before ordering. I, as do my wife and friends, enjoy a Sunday lunch comprising best cuts of meat or poultry and well cooked vegetables. Yorkshire puddings were identical and we suspect they are bought in. Gravy should be served separately and accompanied by appropriate condiments and sauces. A medium meal had so much beef, I was unable to clear my plate. We all struggled with the vegetables and everything on the plates was swimming in gravy, making roast potatoes soggy. I would have preferred not being opposite the kitchen, it might have served better to close the door or add a screen, impressions last forever. The young staff provided a very good service and are a credit to the management.

This is a beautiful hidden gem. We stopped here for a quick stop whilst waiting for a team to come in. There is a stream running along the border of the garden, leading down to a set of swings (which are out of action). Despensers that gave fish/duck food for a small price of 20p so this can easily entertain kids. Staff were very friendly, checked ID and gave reccomendations of good take always and things to do! Thank you! Selection was wide and varied, including local alcohol and alcohol free. Food was lovely and very quick- serves until 5 o clock (on a Saturday and not sure about evening). We booked lunch at The Crown to say farewell to close family members who were returning to Australia after a 2 month holiday in the UK and Europe having emigrated from Hampshire to Australia over 40 years ago. We wanted a traditional English country pub with a relaxed rural atmosphere and a good menu. On arrival we were made very welcome, our drinks order taken and we were given plenty of time to study the menu. Our order (we went for 3 courses) arrived promptly and was excellent; my brother in law said his ham, leek and chicken pie was the best pie he had eaten in the past 2 months. The waitress didn't give us any menus and after waiting 15 minutes went to the bar to ask and later on, again, had to order at the bar while other tables were getting table service. Not too happy about that. Ordered the roast beef and the size was huge which I was most pleased with and the veg that went with it was great! Over all the main food was lovely! Puddings were slightly disappointing, we ordered the honey Combe sundae and the crumble, no complaints on the sundae but the crumble, which was advertised as apple, was in fact plum which I don't like, plus it was swamped in custard! I personally don't like a huge amount of custard on my crumble and I believe just simply putting the cream or custard in a jug on the side would be better in terms of presentation and customer satisfaction. Overall an okay experience, the lady at the bar seemed nice and helpful but felt forgotten about by the waitress on shift. Food tasted great but I can go to other places where the food tastes just as good and I will get a better experience.

We were passing and looking for somewhere to eat and found The Crown Inn.Had a pleasant meal and drink there sitting in the garden. The service was good and the food quite tasty but nothing exceptional and the menu not extensive but adequate. We were surprised to find when we reached home and looked at the website for this inn that the menu there bore little relationship to the menu that was offered in the inn so perhaps they need to update one or the other

Stopped by the Crown and decided to get a roast. Large roast and regular size plates were ordered. Pork a little dry but vegetables were tasty with a nice change of swede. Only issue was that there was a couple of blonde hairs on the crackling and they were not pigs hairs, and plates were cold. Lamb was a bit bland but a good average meal overall. Staff friendly and the pub has a nice atmosphere.

The Crown were great when they helped me out at short notice with their fork buffet for a birthday lunch last month. The quality of the beef, ham and salmon was excellent and the salads colourful and enticing. Jude was helpful and practical and all in all her team ensured we had an enjoyable and memorable celebration. Thanks to all.

We stumbled upon this little gem of a thatched country pub with off road parking and a super attitude towards pooch parents. We just stopped for a quick rest break with our boerboel puppy on our way through and ended up staying for a few hours. The whole pub is dog friendly and the excellent pub garden at the rear is beautifully kept and excellent for dogs with an enclosed area that even provides poop bags! Super friendly staff and the owner came and chatted to us for ages. Super little that accommodates gluten allergies and even vegans - but best to ring ahead if you need something off menu. We will definitely be back!

The best meal I've had in ages. The steak was cooked to perfection. The Crown also has a large selection of fine ales. Will definitely be returning.

Visited for a pre-ordered group lunch. Cosy dining area and a friendly welcome. We ordered a mixture of jacket potatoes and baguettes. They were all beautifully served with a fresh side salad and very tasty. Bit of a wait for the final two baguettes but it was worth it. They coped well with lots of us paying individually.

Typical village pub with excellent range of beers and mostly simple but good pub grub. Occasional special meals on board can be first class.Sunday lunch generally excellent at sensible prices. Parking difficult but spaces in side roads opposite next to old church.

The Crown, in the pretty village of King's Somborne above the Test Valley near Stockbridge, is a wonderfully traditional pub. No designer has been consulted to recreate an "authentic" feel because the pub has never been modernised. Full of local people, it has lots of real character and serves traditional English food. It may win no awards but it is excellent value and the service, even on a busy Sunday lunch, was both efficient and very friendly. An excellent range of beers too. Another big plus: there is no piped music anywhere, unlike in many pubs.

We stopped here on a Sunday lunchtime, while exploring the area, and what a lovely surprise it was. The pub itself is warm and welcoming, with some VERY comfortable armchairs as well as more standard pub furniture: the staff were very friendly, efficient and charming: the beer is kept very well: but as for the food.......just wonderful. I had liver and bacon, and it was without doubt the best I have tasted, succulent and perfectly cooked. My wife had the full roast, which was fresh, plentiful, and well presented. There is a reasonable size car park and a decent sized garden - although we only viewed it through a rainy windowHappily, the pub is only 30 minutes away from us, which makes it our new favourite place to drink and dine.Oh yes...and the price was very reasonable.

We attended a Xmas meal in a large ladies group and I thought the food was excellent. I had the turkey dinner and the presentation and quality of food could not be faulted. It really looked like my meal had been lovingly prepared, and not what you would expect in a large group. I had a similar meal elsewhere tonight ..not a patch on this pub.

At the time I booked a table I specifically asked for a comfortable location in the pub. I turned at the four of us were wedged into a very small space with barely sufficient room to sit comfortably. The food was excellent and the service good. We would go back if we were guaranteed a table with more leg room. G

We've visited the pub before and found the staff welcoming. However, today's visit by a group of us wasn't up to previous standards. Although the meals were ordered in advance, they were a bit slow to come and the verdict was mixed. Some of us were pleased, others a bit disappointed. The beers, however, were well presented and the Crown is still a nice pub to visit. It could just be a bit better organised.

We have eaten here for evening meals 3 times. The first two times we had the steak and ale pie and the cod and chips which were very good, excellent value and cooked to perfection. The third time there were four of us , we waited a hour although the restaurant didn't seem that busy --its not that big and the table are a bit cramped. When the food arrived it had clearly being standing for some time, it was all overcooked and not appetising . We had fish and chips and steak and ale pie, overcooked this time ,plus a sirloin steak which was like rubber-it was uneatable and when we complained we did get a reduction for this -not sure if the chef was waiting for the steak to cook or just forgot about the time it was on. After this experience we are reluctant to return ,maybe it was just a bad night for the chef -if it had been to the standard of the first two times we ate there it would have been 5 stars.

Good with points on TripAdvisor. Our B&B owner also recommended it. The pub was lovely. Looked great inside and out. Lovely staff. The menu was a blackboard on the end of restaurant. Lovely food to choose from but I am allergic to alcohol so I have to be very carful as it is not a allergy that has to be marked clearly on foods. I wanted the calves liver but it had red wine gravy. I chose Steak and Kidney pudding. When the lady came to take our order I double checked with her that there was no alcohol was in the pudding. She said she would check. She didn't come back so we assumed it didn't. The meal turned up. The steak and kidney was lovely. I opened it up and tasted it and it was full of lovely chunks of streak and kidney. I took some chips and pushed Them into my gravy. Tried them again as I thought surly no alcohol as I specifically made it I couldn't eat it. She was shocked as she explained to the chef no alcohol. Back went my meal. A couple of minutes she asked if I could eat it without gravy?!! NO was the as she and surely you must have bisto gravy. A further few minutes a whole new meal appeared with a jug of very week bisto gravy but at least there was some! The waitress apologised numerous times and the owner of the pub also came over and apologised. We were surprised nothing was taken off of the bill. The restaurant had a side bit off of the bar and there were I believe 6 tables. The restaurant has a wooden floor and with everyone talking it was quite hard to hear our own conversations

I have often lunched at the Crown but I am currently on a gluten-free and dairy-free elimination diet and wasn't sure that their lovely pub grub would suit me at this time. However, they couldn't have been more helpful and, on one occasion, I was able to have jacket potato with chilli con carne and, on another occasion, I had Sunday luch and they willingly provided gluten-free gravy. The staff were cheerful and very helpful and I shall definitely be returning-either on this diet or off it!

We called in to the Crown for a beer and some lunch and we're given a most pleasant welcome. The beer (Ringwood Best) was very tasty and served in clean glasses. We ordered our food and then went to sit in the garden. The food was brought to us and tasted excellent. However throughout our visit we were treated attentively and politely by a charming lady with an Irish name which I really should remember. For that I apologise! So, a good welcome, good service, good pint, good food. That's what we wanted and that's what we got.

We really like this pub. Seating area is spacious and I bet it’s gorgeous when the fires are lit in the winter . Service was good. The couple front of house were friendly and helpful. We had fish and chips. Huge piece of battered fish. Very tasty. We had gammon and eggs which was a generous helping and the plate was seen off as delicious. I had Mac cheese and chips and salad. I really enjoyed this. We would recommend this pub.
