Whilst staying locally we were recommended to try The Crown Inn. And we were not disappointed. A warm welcome greeted us and we were shown to our table. The food was excellent, so tasty and so well presented. The service was super, friendly and professional. Very highly recommended.

Staying in the local area and visited with my wife, dad & his wife and WOW what a find this was, starting with an excellent land lady whos welcome was worthy of 6 stars !. Moving onto the food which was epic! considering we live near the east coast we all opted for the fish & chips which we all agreed was probably the best we have had for a VERY long time cooked to perfection with amazing chunky hand cut chips mushy peas also all cooked & seasoned to perfection!. Ending with a perfect little cheesecake desert which was excellent. All in all very much worth the visit & if we didn't live four & a half hours away we would be proud to call this our local. If you are staying in the area on holiday you need to visit here for food!. Oh & they also sell local honey & have good real ales!! .

Michel, Chef and her team are absolutely fabulous. A nice warm inviting atmosphere, I’m not local but such a warming pub to visit. We came for the fish and chips night which was the most succulent, tender fish I have never had - I shall be visiting more often for evening meals so long as you pre book as the village pub is very busy!

Bar full of locals - great if they make space at the bar for you to be served and reach your drinks but these ones didn't. Cheerful landlady but was not helpful at all and when we asked if we could eat we were told, quite curtly, that they start at 6.30pm (it was 5.15). We said fine okay, we'll have a couple of drinksand smiled. Then we were told, again rather curtly, that they were fully booked and she turned away to her local clients. Not a problem being full as we could (and should?) have rung ahead. But there were four tables in a side room that were not reserved, although others clearly were. The pub definitely had the vibe of 'locals only welcome, travellers, newcomers and tourists stay away'. Perhaps it was just us they didn't like..... never again.

Lovely pub with an outstanding hostess, Michelle 😊 Food was tasty and the chef accommodated our vegetarian requirements perfectly! Michelle was so helpful and went out of her way to help us….she even provided us with a bottle of milk to take back to our lodge as all the shops were closed on our arrival. The following day we had car issues and needed a lift to the local train station, we went back to The Crowne Inn to ask Michelle about local taxis. She was more than happy to help and ended up driving us to the train station!! Absolutely lovely lady….would recommend this pub without hesitation ☺️

We spent a week in a Lodge nearby and we ate at the Crown 4 times. Michelle is an excellent landlady and the pub is so welcoming. The menu was spot on, more than a pub. The food quality was very good. We ate in the restaurant three times including Sunday lunch. The food portions were just right and not too big so we could sample puddings. The Sunday lunch which they only serve one was nicely cooked, gammon with a homemade parsley sauce and lovely roasties and veg. Lemon posset and the chocolate mousse was so good my husband had it twice. The fish and chips was so fresh with Cornish cod which fell apart and the colour showed how fresh it was, covered in a thin non greasy batter. Chips great. Seafood sharing platter was very good too. They have a well priced and good quality wine list and they keep their cask beer excellently. Always good to go in a pub and see all the locals drinking the cask. The pub has a real community feel and it was very welcoming. We will definitely return to the lodge and the pub again. Absolutely spot on.

We've been regular customers of the Crown since their innovative 'beer in the garden' after the first lockdown had ended. Since then and for a month or two we've enjoyed beers indoors with a lovely log fire and friendly company. Now we are suffering a second lockdown and Tier 2 restrictions, the Crown is offering first class meals on Friday and Saturday nights. We came two nights ago and enjoyed some of Blaine's excellent cooking (short ribs of beef and seasonal veg as well as delicious desserts). Michelle and her staff, with their friendly way made for a memorable evening. Superb wine as well and we really enjoyed a glass of dessert wine afterwards. Thank you for an excellent night out.As well as running the pub, they have served the community well with fresh meat to order as well as ridiculously fresh fish. Veggie boxes also. Take away hot meals on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays have been first class. All in all, here is a pub with people determined to make it work, for themselves as well as the community, in spite of Covid, and they deserve every success. Heartily recommended.

After too many years consuming the exotic IPAs of British Columbia, Hobsons Best Bitter served well was an absolute revelation. So much flavour and so little after effect! Then there was the food. Steak as good as the best I have eaten anywhere in a comfortable and cosy environment. The cheese board was not bad either. I must be fair and say the new owners had only been in for a couple of weeks when we went for the Wednesday fish and chip night. The main bar was fairly cosy but the overspill ‘restaurant ‘ was quite cold with an electric wood burner. Felt very neglected and unwelcoming. There was a reasonable crowd but, it took over an hour and a half for our food to come. Good sized portions but only one individual tarter sauce between four of us. It was not possible to fathom why the service was so slow and nobody communicated with us. That said the fish was good. Local knowledge had it that the previous owners served 130 on the fish and chip night, I doubt on ours they exceeded 30.

Over the Christmas holidays we were staying in one of the chalets at Clun Valley Lodges, only 5 minutes walk away, therefor The Crown became our defacto 'local' for the time we were there. The landlord (Andy - a Geordie lad) and 'lady (Della) were affable and welcoming and the general ambience of the place agreeable - helped in no small way by the wood burning fire in the bar.The pub was bought and is now owned by a local consortium after it was threatened with redevelopment after closure in the early 90's. It opened again in 1995 is very well patronised by locals, has a phenomenal reputation for food and has featured often in the Good Beer Guide.Warm, welcoming, popular, good food and beer - which really, when you think about it, ticks most of the boxes. Some things to note however; to avoid disappointment, its worth booking ahead for meals, especially at weekends and Wednesdays (fish night) and the carpark is on the other side of the road - those with limited mobility might have difficulty.

On the way to another location not far from here, we decided to grab some lunch. It was full inside when we arrived, but the young girl behind the bar said she would make us a table up in the restaurant if we didn't mind being in there. My partner had the fish and chips, and I had the Italian Burger, when the food came it looked amazing .. a most succulent burger with a beautifully presented salad, grated carrot, orange, tomato, cucumber and rocket, the fish was fresh and beautifully battered full of flavour and again beautifully presented. The chips....I thought I'd gone to heaven a very large bowl between us, cooked just like my mother used to make, the best chips I've tasted for years. Credit to the lovely young lady behind the bar, friendly and service was first class and also to the chef! Definitely would recommend a visit, and hope to call there again soon!

We are staying in Clunton and ate at the Crown Inn tonight on our first night of a long weekend away. It was really excellent with fabulously tasty and freshly cooked food and a lovely atmosphere too. The landlord and landlady are really friendly and were very welcoming. Really looking forward to visiting the pub again over the weekend.

My Wife & I ate here twice, once for Sunday lunch and once for an evening meal. Quite simply it was great food, we particularly liked the Shropshire Blue cheese sauce we had on our steaks. This little pub was rescued by the local community and is small and friendly - a well done to the locals I say. I would recommend it to anyone, but you need to book as the restaurant is quite small.

Sunday lunch was very good. There were 10 of us, and everyone really enjoyed it. A nice menu with the option of 1, 2 or 3 courses at set prices made it easy for everyone to have what they wanted. The food was beautifully cooked and there was plenty of it, the service was excellent and friendly and the atmosphere welcoming. I would highly recommend a visit.

We were staying locally and the Crown was recommended. We were not disappointed, we had the fish and chips on the Wednesday and have to say it was the best I have ever had, lovely fresh fish lightly battered with home made chips. Had a birthday meal on the Thursday and there was so much food left over, it was well cooked and fresh but we couldn't finish it all. The prices are very reasonable for a country pub and the staff are fantastic. Thanks Andy and Della for a great time.

Being no stranger to a good portion of fish and chips...I can absolutely declare that the meal we (6 of us) experienced last Wednesday evening at The Crown was very possibly the most perfect example of our national dish you will ever come across this side of the pearly gates. We all ordered the Haddock, chips, peas...(garden or mushy) and tartar sauce...each meal was cooked to absolute perfection...all served piping hot...crispy, thin beer batter, pure white fresh fish...no smell whatever!...perfectly cooked chips....fluffy inside and crisp outside...no greasiness....and washed down with local ale.Thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience, a wonderful friendly atmosphere, great food and beer in an idyllic part of the world.... will be returning very soon for a repeat performance...VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Lovely Sunday lunch. Went a few times in the evenings, look at the notices for specials. Bit wary of "strangers" maybe?

Be there early our hosts said, and they were right. Five thirty pm on a Wednesday and the place was filling up fast, excellent food to eat in or take away.

Tonight Tim brought us the Pork special in breadcrumbs with veg, a bacon and mushroom risotto ,bolognaise and piquant prawn starters with a delicious creamy rice pudding for afters. All were hot and delicious. What a treat to have a home delivery and be able to enjoy food without the washing up.Highly recommended if you live in or near Ludlow. Thanks to Chef Nick, the lovely Deborah and of course, Tim.

Called in today for a nice lunch, but very dark and uninviting, could it be closed ? Once we were inside we were informed that only coffee was available, no food whatsoever. Having looked at Facebook reviews this place looked great but it turned out to be a waste of a journey so we spent our money elsewhere and will not try again. Very disappointing.

We always love the food, reasonable prices and good service, but the Maltings is currently closed. So my advice is to check before going.
