We love this pub! Delicious home cooked food and a warm welcome every time. The pub is a beautiful old building with exposed beams and a roaring fire always lit in winter. The beer garden with views of the Shropshire Hills is stunning for summer, plus it's fenced in so you can have kids and dogs running about with no bother

Thank you for accommodating us today, turned up out of the blue and was made to feel very welcomed. Absolutely fabulous Sunday roast in a warm and hospitable little pub, this was the perfect end to a wonderful day in the area. If you're looking for very good homemade food then look no further, a bit off the beaten track but worth the effort to get there.

Had a great meal last night, The steak was very impressive and portions were very sizable, The lasagne was perfectly cooked and you can tell its proper home cooked not like pub chains. The atmosphere was very welcoming and the hosts were attentative. would recommend the toffee crisp cheese cake if you can fit it. would highly recommend a visit, you will not be disapointed. RH

Came here for the views and some tasty grub. Such a beautiful location. A very relaxed, calming, old worldly pub. There were only 4 people and us two in the pub and we waited 40 minutes to get our food! Nice bar waitress but very slow service. I ordered a pie and was surprised when it arrived, it was very runny and didn't even look like a pie! But the cider and location was superb 👌

So good I had to post it twice!! One from my business and one from my personal account! What a gem of a find! Lovely place, excellent fresh, home cooked food, wonderful homemade desserts (the cheesecake was the best we’ve had in our memory), very clean and comfortable room, comfy bed, and you really could not wish to meet nicer people, the ladies who own this business are fantastic, really genuinely friendly, couldn’t ask for better hosts, we will definitely be back and highly recommend this haven of an Inn, if we lived nearer we would be in there all the time! ❤️❤️ By the way, the breakfast was excellent too, the garden looks perfect for a few pre lunch or dinner drinks when the weather is good, see you again soon ladies xx

This is my favourite pub in the world. Stunning location, great beer and real cider, fantastic home-made food and a lovely atmosphere. Yes it's small so book if you intend to eat. There's a great beer garden overlooking the Stiperstones ridge - perfect for a sunny afternoon. NO big screen sports! NO jukebox! NO fruit machines! Perfect. Shame I don't live closer or I'd be there all the time.

The staff at Stables Inn saved our weekend after fitting us in last minute, after another local hotel cancelled due to a burst pipe. We stayed in the shepherd's hut, which was quaint and cosy, with a log burner to get the place really warm on a cold night. There's a toilet/shower block about 10 steps away with was very clean and well stocked with everything you need. We dined in the pub after enjoying a couple of glasses of wine snuggled up next to the fire. We ordered food, it was delicious and reasonably priced. All staff were very pleasant and friendly and even though they couldn't provide breakfast the following morning (due to the late booking) the went out of their way to provide a list of places we could go the following morning. Their recommendation turned out to be one of the best breakfasts I've ever had!! Overall, I'd definitely return for another romantic night under the stars. Only a short drive from Stiperstone if so plenty of outdoor goodness to be had if planning a weekend hike.

@stablesinn has been at the heart of the community since 1680 and is described as a pub that celebrates standing still, an oasis of calm in an ever changing and busy world and we couldn’t agree more! ⭐️5/5 Recommend 👍🏻 Price 💸💸/💸 Finding somewhere like this is one of the perks of being food obsessed. The menu suited the feel of the place and was dominated by traditional pub grub and warming homemade pies made using locally sourced ingredients. Pies all round and between us we tried them all. Steak and Shropshire blue Stilton had all the depth of flavour you would hope for in this hearty dish. Yes it could have taken more Stilton but who cares it was delish. Chicken leek and bacon pie was not for the faint hearted, perfect for those who love rich and creamy sauces. Finally the mixed mushroom and Gruyère pie, again heavy on the cream but great flavours, all topped with light, crisp puff pastry. Our meals were served with a choice of potatoes (we opted for chips to mop up the gravy) and fresh vegetables. This was all about the hearty traditional home cooking and we certainly felt warm inside like we’d been wrapped up in a cosy blanket. Bron and Nat have created home from home and we could have spent many more hours in front of that huge roaring fire with the pub dog. For the overall experience it has to be 5/5 we loved it from the minute we walked in to the minute we had to tear ourselves away. For us thestablesinn has everything you could hope for in a traditional country pub and for anyone staying over there are rooms or a shepherds hut complete with spectacular views of the countryside, great for visitors to the area. Definitely one to put on your list and let’s face it what could be better after a walk in the beautiful Shropshire Hills. Hope you like it as much as we did and we may just see you there! #theshropshirefoodies #shropshire #shrewsbury #shropshirelife #foodreview #foodblogger #foodie #foodshare #walking #instagood #countrypub #pubsofinstagram

A real slice of Britishness, a true local pub hidden between the fields in on a country road with hidden carpark under the stars. Probably one of the best meals i've had, proper home made pub food...with more finesse. Fire was lt, locals and staff were extremly welcoming and the atmosphere was so inviting and cheerful. There were families with kids, couples, friends and game keepers (in full garb). Get yourself a port and a steak pie, you wont regret it!

My father bought this pub in the 60’s when we moved back to the UK from Guernsey. It was my home for several years. I decided to take my wife there as a trip down memory lane. It is essentially the same, but the current owners have made some lovely improvements . It has retained its history and character, but they have made some great changes, giving an overall experience of comfort, tasteful decor, excellent food and drink, but all still with a warm family atmosphere. It always was a great pub and it was so great to see it hasn’t lost its charm. Our hosts were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. It’s in quite a remote location, but the fact that it is so popular speaks for itself. Angus and Claire Wilkinson

I came across this venue when Googling somewhere to stay over night after dropping our children at a PGL break. What a find. From initial contact and throughout our stay, there was nothing I would have changed. The Stag room that we stayed in was beautiful with fabulous views and everything we needed for a great overnight stay. The bed was the longest and probably the most comfortable I have ever slept in. All the decor and features in the rooms complement the existing charm of the building. The pub itself is cosy and rustic and the menu and food varied enough to have something to suit everyone and of very high quality. The road outside has virtually no traffic passing and there are plenty of places to walk on the doorstep. We also took our dog along for the stay as it is super dog friendly. He made friends with the pub dog, Dexie. My only disappointment is that we do not live close enough to visit more regularly. If it’s not in your planned route, it’s worth going out if your way for.

We stayed in our camper on the carpark across the lane from the pub, was the most quietest night we have had at a pub stop, the pub its self is still old fashioned inside and has the same look outside, which is very hard to find nowadays and has a very homely look about it, they have 2 local cask ales on, which are very well kept, as I could tell being an ex landlord myself, we ate of the menu, not extensive or expensive, we had home made stilton and steak pie , there was massive pieces of steak in it and large pieces of stilton too, if you want somewhere of the beaten track next to some great scenery to wind down, I would definitely recommend it, oh and staff and locals were great too.

Found this pub from a google search near to our bed and breakfast, it promised good fresh British grub and it was everything we needed on a wet autumnal evening. The beer choices were good, the service prompt and efficient and the atmosphere was that of a locals local where we were made to feel welcome and at home. The food was tasty, hot and the portion sizes were plentiful. The owner and his daughter were great hosts. Keep up the good work.

As we put our noses through the beautiful old door of the Stables we knew we’d found a gem! This is how pubs should be. It’s small - filled with lovely guests - who are using a pub for chat and a drink - and on our second visit to listen to the musicians playing folk songs - for all the world - straight from central casting!

Lovely country pub, food was excellent, well worth the 45 minute walk there and back to where we were staying. The lady who worked the bar, serving and cooking the food was lovely, she even offered us a lift to the hotel we were staying at. Highly recommend Stables Inn

I visited with my wife for supper after a wintry walk on the Stiperstones ridge. We were immediately made to feel very welcome, and soon placed our food order, despite it being rather early. The steak and stilton pie was excellent; a generous portion with loads of flavour. My wife enjoyed her halloumi burger with grilled veg. A group of local hunters provided a lively atmosphere as they warmed up after a cold afternoon on the moor.

We were a bit lost and by luck stumbled across this remote 17th century pub in the middle of the Shropshire hills ... you could say in the middle of nowhere. It was Sunday lunchtime and we were getting hungry. Two miles up an unlikely farm lane we found this pub. Just beautiful. Best pub meal I've had for years - proper home cooked tasty food and superb local ales. My friends had the beef lasagna and rack of lamb and I had the steak and stilton pie. We all agreed the food was delicious. These are the kind of pubs we need to keep open. Well worth a detour to find this gem. Doug.

We had a lovely meal here on a Friday evening. We hadn't booked and were met with warm hospitality from the Stables Inn team. We really enjoyed the beer, cider and a great 2-course meal for a very reasonable price. We had pate & garlic prawns followed by Steak & Stilton pie and Gammon in Stilton sauce. DELICIOUS! A proper country pub which comes highly recommended.

Kids came to meet Santa, the entertainer was brilliant and Santa was on top form. The staff were lovely and the whole thing was very well organised. A lovely country pub with a fab looking menu and cosy log fires.

I was a very close friend of Lisa's. She said I was dark after I helped her clear her home of all darkness. I use to do healing with her and helped her on many levels. Be careful of her as she doesn't care she is fake. She pretends to be your friend and manipulates you. Do not trust her!!!! She worked for another place at holistic therapies in Birmingham and claimed they were dark!!!! I'm not the first or last!!!! BE CAREFUL OF LISA!!! I must warn you all as therapists are meant to be trustworthy, Lisa is far from it!!! PLEASE BE CAREFUL OF HER AND DO NOT ALLOW HER IN YOUR PERSONAL SPACE!!!

My wife and I visited Christopher's for the first time in November 2024. We had a bit of a struggle to find car parking close by, and no parking was available near St Andrews Church further down the street . We had to leave Shifnal and come back in , eventually finding a nearby street parking spot in a bay on the main road . The timbered building looks lovely and full of character . Once inside we were taken to our table by a friendly waitress and soon got talking to a friendly couple on the next table . We had booked a table earlier on that night by phone and Christopher ( the owner ) had tried to ring back earlier in the day when we had phoned outside opening hours with no reply. Christopher's also has an on-line booking system via their 'clunky but functional ' website . My wife had a Devilled kidneys on sour dough toast, starter which she was very pleased with . I did not have a starter but had a main of 'Chargrilled Pork Steak on the bone , creamed mashed potatoes and vegetables' [£19.95] which was again very enjoyable. My wife had an 8oz Sirlion Steak , with hand cut chips , vine tomatoes and mushroom [ £24.95] - recent medical situations and medicines have restricted her food intake but apart from a bit of help from the greedy husband with some of the great chips , she was ab$le to eat all the steak and still smile ! I then had an interesting Apple and Winterberry Crumble with custard [ £7.50] - a decent pudding, but I would try a different one when , hopefully , we visit again . The dining experience at Christopher's was , for us, a relaxing and enjoyable one . It is not cheap, but the food is of a high quality and cooked to perfection and therefore well worth the price .
