This is my favourite pub in the world. Stunning location, great beer and real cider, fantastic home-made food and a lovely atmosphere. Yes it's small so book if you intend to eat. There's a great beer garden overlooking the Stiperstones ridge - perfect for a sunny afternoon. NO big screen sports! NO jukebox! NO fruit machines! Perfect. Shame I don't live closer or I'd be there all the time.

The staff at Stables Inn saved our weekend after fitting us in last minute, after another local hotel cancelled due to a burst pipe. We stayed in the shepherd's hut, which was quaint and cosy, with a log burner to get the place really warm on a cold night. There's a toilet/shower block about 10 steps away with was very clean and well stocked with everything you need. We dined in the pub after enjoying a couple of glasses of wine snuggled up next to the fire. We ordered food, it was delicious and reasonably priced. All staff were very pleasant and friendly and even though they couldn't provide breakfast the following morning (due to the late booking) the went out of their way to provide a list of places we could go the following morning. Their recommendation turned out to be one of the best breakfasts I've ever had!! Overall, I'd definitely return for another romantic night under the stars. Only a short drive from Stiperstone if so plenty of outdoor goodness to be had if planning a weekend hike.

@stablesinn has been at the heart of the community since 1680 and is described as a pub that celebrates standing still, an oasis of calm in an ever changing and busy world and we couldn’t agree more! ⭐️5/5 Recommend 👍🏻 Price 💸💸/💸 Finding somewhere like this is one of the perks of being food obsessed. The menu suited the feel of the place and was dominated by traditional pub grub and warming homemade pies made using locally sourced ingredients. Pies all round and between us we tried them all. Steak and Shropshire blue Stilton had all the depth of flavour you would hope for in this hearty dish. Yes it could have taken more Stilton but who cares it was delish. Chicken leek and bacon pie was not for the faint hearted, perfect for those who love rich and creamy sauces. Finally the mixed mushroom and Gruyère pie, again heavy on the cream but great flavours, all topped with light, crisp puff pastry. Our meals were served with a choice of potatoes (we opted for chips to mop up the gravy) and fresh vegetables. This was all about the hearty traditional home cooking and we certainly felt warm inside like we’d been wrapped up in a cosy blanket. Bron and Nat have created home from home and we could have spent many more hours in front of that huge roaring fire with the pub dog. For the overall experience it has to be 5/5 we loved it from the minute we walked in to the minute we had to tear ourselves away. For us thestablesinn has everything you could hope for in a traditional country pub and for anyone staying over there are rooms or a shepherds hut complete with spectacular views of the countryside, great for visitors to the area. Definitely one to put on your list and let’s face it what could be better after a walk in the beautiful Shropshire Hills. Hope you like it as much as we did and we may just see you there! #theshropshirefoodies #shropshire #shrewsbury #shropshirelife #foodreview #foodblogger #foodie #foodshare #walking #instagood #countrypub #pubsofinstagram

A real slice of Britishness, a true local pub hidden between the fields in on a country road with hidden carpark under the stars. Probably one of the best meals i've had, proper home made pub food...with more finesse. Fire was lt, locals and staff were extremly welcoming and the atmosphere was so inviting and cheerful. There were families with kids, couples, friends and game keepers (in full garb). Get yourself a port and a steak pie, you wont regret it!

My father bought this pub in the 60’s when we moved back to the UK from Guernsey. It was my home for several years. I decided to take my wife there as a trip down memory lane. It is essentially the same, but the current owners have made some lovely improvements . It has retained its history and character, but they have made some great changes, giving an overall experience of comfort, tasteful decor, excellent food and drink, but all still with a warm family atmosphere. It always was a great pub and it was so great to see it hasn’t lost its charm. Our hosts were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. It’s in quite a remote location, but the fact that it is so popular speaks for itself. Angus and Claire Wilkinson

Hit first by great atmosphere, coming first from dex the dog, whose bark soon melts into love and fuss, friendly cat too then a warm welcome from locals and landlady. Really quirky place, proper country pub. Such a chilled place to spend an evening and food was great. Not often that I clear my plate! Even went for pudding though it did beat me. Will definitely be back, it may be my new favourite place😊. Thank you to all who made us feel so welcome, you are truly a hidden gem.

I came across this venue when Googling somewhere to stay over night after dropping our children at a PGL break. What a find. From initial contact and throughout our stay, there was nothing I would have changed. The Stag room that we stayed in was beautiful with fabulous views and everything we needed for a great overnight stay. The bed was the longest and probably the most comfortable I have ever slept in. All the decor and features in the rooms complement the existing charm of the building. The pub itself is cosy and rustic and the menu and food varied enough to have something to suit everyone and of very high quality. The road outside has virtually no traffic passing and there are plenty of places to walk on the doorstep. We also took our dog along for the stay as it is super dog friendly. He made friends with the pub dog, Dexie. My only disappointment is that we do not live close enough to visit more regularly. If it’s not in your planned route, it’s worth going out if your way for.

We stayed in our camper on the carpark across the lane from the pub, was the most quietest night we have had at a pub stop, the pub its self is still old fashioned inside and has the same look outside, which is very hard to find nowadays and has a very homely look about it, they have 2 local cask ales on, which are very well kept, as I could tell being an ex landlord myself, we ate of the menu, not extensive or expensive, we had home made stilton and steak pie , there was massive pieces of steak in it and large pieces of stilton too, if you want somewhere of the beaten track next to some great scenery to wind down, I would definitely recommend it, oh and staff and locals were great too.

Best pub meal I've had for years - proper home cooked tasty food and superb local ales. My friends had the beef lasagna and rack of lamb and I had the steak and stilton pie. We all agreed the food was delicious. These are the kind of pubs we need to keep open. Well worth a detour to find this gem. Doug.

We had a lovely meal here on a Friday evening. We hadn't booked and were met with warm hospitality from the Stables Inn team. We really enjoyed the beer, cider and a great 2-course meal for a very reasonable price. We had pate & garlic prawns followed by Steak & Stilton pie and Gammon in Stilton sauce. DELICIOUS! A proper country pub which comes highly recommended.

What a find! We stayed in the shepherds hut at the rear of The Stables Inn. It had everything you needed for a weekend to get a way from it all. The log burner made it nice and cosy, tea and coffee, own private shower, and fantastic views.

As family were staying at the Inn we joined them on two evenings for a meal. The burgers were a hit with other family members but I had lamb and salmon, both were very good. We are glad to see that Bronwen is keeping up the standards that we enjoyed when Chris was in charge. It is a very comfortable pub and we hope to visit again soon. Wish we lived nearer! Thanks Bronwen.

We called here one lunch time, not realising the opening hours had changed. The owner said she would open up for us to have a drink. We said we would have to come back for a meal and she offered to do us something then. My husband had a starter of prawns which he said were delicious. We both had the steak and Stilton pie with new potatoes and plenty of vegs, it really is "to die for". I had a lemon tart which was lovely. I said it was a shame she didn't do takeaway puds so she asked what we would like and we took home two puds and two pots of custard. This pub is just like they used to be, friendly, no music blearing out and really welcoming. It is about two or three miles up Drury Lane, off the main road but well worth a visit.

We called late afternoon on a Saturday. There were only a few people in the bar and no signs of menus or food. We asked if food was available, and although late in the afternoon, the staff were welcoming and happy to make us something to eat. The menu is relatively small, but the food was well cooked and enjoyed by all. There was a note on the board outside that the pub was only open all day at the weekends, (only open in the evening during the week) so we did not return during our stay. We had some good local beer, and would recommend to anyone in the area.

We were staying at Abel's Harp and decided to venture out for a meal. We found Stables Inn and were really blown away. The barmaid was quick, super friendly, and knew her ales and when we asked if they were serving food she immediately agreed. There was a sign posted indicating that there would be a bit of a wait as all the food was made to order but we agreed to these terms, and hunkered down with a pint while we waited. The same barmaid was the only one working and there were probably about 7 people in the pub when we got in. She juggled her job incredibly well moving between the kitchen and the bar, an impressive feat as she was the sole cook for the restaurant also. As that was very clearly the case, we were immediately sympathetic to any additional time that was required for our food, but she surprised us with how prompt the food was.My boyfriend ordered the steak and stilton pie and absolutely loved it; I ordered the halloumi and veggie burger which was really incredibly tasty. We split a massive plate of chips and salad, both which were really lovely. What an excellent night out. Thank you!

Ate here last night after stopping up the road at ables harp. After a long walk we arrived at a beautiful English pub. We had a warm welcome followed by a drink, the local ale was lovely. We had walked a long way to the pub from where we stopping but it was worth the walk! We all had starters and the pate and homemade chutney was very good and the prawn cocktail large and quality good. There was 4 of us we had roast beef (large portion of good quality) lasagne (homemade very nice) gammon (lovely sauce good portion) and an extremely tasty pie. The menu is small but sufficient. With the meal there was bowl upon bowl of fresh veg chips and roasties, very nice. For desert we all shared one treacle sponge and custard home made and very nice. After the meal we played darts and had a drink. After a few drinks we realised it was dark and we would need a taxi back. The owner said we would struggle for a taxi so she kindly dropped us (saved the day). The staff couldn't do enough to help, lovely pub, great food and fantastic ale! Well worth a visit!

We stayed at this pub for the weekend. It is a beautiful setting, a perfect stop over for people wanting to walk in these lovely hills. A choice of two great rooms in the pub or a self contained quaint Shepherds Hut in the grounds. Very friendly welcome and fantastic food made our stay very relaxing. Thank you Bronwyn.
