Great Sunday Lunch, Roast Beef was really tasty and a good sized proportion, well balanced and not too much. It was busy today and we could hear Chef getting a bit shouty in the kitchen, but we were so well looked after by no less the 3 waitresses, that it didn't matter. They were attentive, polite, charming and above all smiling throughout. It makes a real difference when you are being served by people who look happy in their jobs. Thank you Mia, Izzy and Ana - you made our lunchtime.

Went to the pub quiz(great fun) and Saturday dinner. Food both times was fantastic, service was friendly and enthusiastic. Recommended

Pints may be good however due to unforeseen circumstances the staff are very rude for multiple reasons first of all they were listening in to our conversation about how expensive the food was at 25 pounds for a shepherds pie which is ridiculous to which he butted in stating that “you choose to come to this pub don’t complain about the prices” which is very bad in my opinion from the staff. This is my first time at this pub and it’s safe to say Im not very pleased and won’t be returning anytime soon!

We arrived on a Thursday night at 6.30 for dinner and already it was very difficult to find any parking in Minchinhampton. We managed to get one of the two last places in the little town car park. I’d advise getting there as early as possible if you need to park near to the venue! The bar was full and already noisy when we arrived and as my elderly mother is hard of hearing we asked if we could have a table in the quietest part of the dining room. We were led through to the back of the Inn into the barn area and were shown to the first table in the entrance to the room. Unfortunately this was the nearest table to the kitchen and as the evening began the noise/ shouting from the kitchen staff and the noisy rap music being played in the kitchen become very irritating and it was difficult to hold a conversation with my hard of hearing mother at times. A quieter background music soundtrack in the restaurant would be more relaxing and appropriate for diners! It seems not very professional for the loud noise and music from the kitchen to be heard in the dining room. Next time we would ask to sit at the far end of the barn. The staff were all very young and possibly lack of experience meant that they didn’t understand our need to sit somewhere quiet to begin with? Another slightly irritating thing was the frequent opening of an outside door to the dining area in the barn letting in the cold and a draft on what was a cold evening as small groups of youths kept coming in and out throughout the evening walking through the guests in the dining room. Not sure if they were staff or customers but it would be better to keep this door closed, apart from maybe as an emergency exit. If they were staff then again it was not very professional to keep walking in and out past the diners. The food when it arrived however was excellent, very well presented, on hot plates and with very generous portions. The fennel sausages and mash were delicious and very well cooked and seasoned. The portion size was maybe too large and the mash portion could definitely have been reduced. I don’t like to waste food and so finished my portion but it was definitely a hearty man sized portion! This dish was the lowest calorie option main on the menu but it was still very heavy on the calories! I chose the panna cotta for dessert, again one of the lowest calorie options and although it was really delicious it was very dense and heavy and didn’t have the light set and ’wobble’ that you’d expect from a pana cotta. As a result it was again all extremely filling. It would be really good to offer a few lighter options on the dinner menu for those of us not able to cope with such man sized portions or for those needing to watch their weight, or with diabetes or high cholesterol as every main course was well upwards of 1200 calories, the desserts upwards of about 600 calories and most dishes were either high on fat, carbs or sugar. Maybe pan fried salmon or some fresh fish with new potatoes would be lovely. Maybe offer one lighter fresh fruit based dessert? For anyone with health issues or wanting to watch their weight it’s always welcome to find some healthier options on a menu. The quality of the food was certainly good enough for us to return, we’d just maybe not be so conscientious to clear our plates though!

Just tried the Crown again and am happy to report it is good at last. A short but adequate menu, open 7 days, none of the past uncertainties about capacity or whatever. Staff charming food a bit fussy but actually good. It would be easy to criticize whitebait served looking like sardines with red (beetroot) hummus, very creamy coleslaw and some vegetable topping but apart from being unexpected it was fine. We need to return and try more of the menu with an open mind. Now if they could bring back the glorious Dunkerton Sunday feast....

We called in on the 15th April for a light lunch. It was absolutely great, we shared some whitebait, delicious, then had the warm smoked mackerel starter with a poached egg, we both thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere of the pub was smashing, peaceful, very smart and the service was perfect. I can't recommend it highly enough

Consistently good food and atmosphere. The menu is pub favourites done well- pies, burgers, fish and chips etc. Some good vegetarian options also. A little pricey but not crazy and standard for the area. Good selection of beers and wines. Will visit again.

Brilliant Mother’s Day Sunday lunch with an added unexpected visitor. Staff were great with accommodating this, and the service was friendly and welcoming. We love the homely but buzzy atmosphere at The Crown although one does need to accept the noise levels from families with children in this area. A starter of whitebait with a home made tartare sauce was really good. Mains of Chicken Kiev with Dauphinoise potato, artichoke puree, tenderstem broccoli was delicious and not over seasoned. My partner had sausages and mash with greens that was also good although the gravy was salty which is often the case at pubs. Staff are always friendly and helpful and there is a good selection of beers.

The food was good for a pub roast lunch, just to start with the positive. But we were in the 'barn' bit at the back, where the music was uncomfortably loud, our seats too low for the table, the table too close to the adjacent so waiting staff had to squeeze between us and the adjacent sideways, either crotch or bum to us at plate height. And then the manager (I assume) decided to go into a loft area for some reason mid lunch, which entailed putting a chair on the serving desk, asking a member of staff to hold it, climbing up, hoisting himself onto a beam, then into a hatchway. And then back down again some minutes later. Mid lunch. At least it was mildly entertaining and a snub to Heath & Safety.

We came for a birthday treat and were not disappointed. Food was excellent. We had whitebait to start which was cooked superbly without just relying on breadcrumbs and P had the bavette steak which he thoroughly enjoyed. I opted for 2 starters as a main, my typically preferred option and have no complaints. Plus service was friendly and first class.

What a fantastic welcoming place to go for our evening meal, such friendly people and great food. We arrived earlier than planned to a quiet pub, which gradually filled up allowing us to witness the fantastic way the staff were with every new arrival. The service was not very prompt, I asked for extra gravy which did not appear. We also asked for a bottle of still mineral water which did not appear. The desert then took about 20 mins to arrive after being ordered.

We ate at the Crown for my daughters birthday. Sadly it was not at all enjoyable the food was just okay. The service was dire at best and one young man came across as rude. The pub also had a folk band playing that we could not hear each other speak.

Struggling to find a local pub that would serve dinner on a Sunday evening, we were able to book online last minute and walk down to the High Street from the Common.
