We popped in during a short visit to Wells. We then popped in again the following day. It's a cosy place with great staff, serving various hot and cold drinks. Food is also served. We didn't sample that so can't comment. Well-behaved dogs are welcome. Accessibility is very poor. It is an old building with low ceilings and narrow doorways. There is a small ramp to the door but it was a very tight squeeze for wheelchairs. Large chairs would not fit.

Fantastic rustic hotel is a great location. Right in the city centre with easy access to everything you need. Staff are very friendly, happy to chat, and happy to help with anything you need. The breakfast was brilliant and set us up well for the day. Overall a must stay if you're in the area.

My second visit this year. Very close to the Cathedral. Ample parking nearby, food is excellent - especially at their very reasonable price point! Staff all very pleasant and helpful. They had a large group booking at the time, but this didn't hinder the swift and efficient service at all. Great place to rest for lunch. Highly recommended.

We had a great experience and all staff were very welcoming and attentive. Dogs loved their own roast dinner. Food on the whole was excellent but 1* knocked off as roast potatoes needed to be softer inside and crisper on outside, that said full marks for the cauliflower cheese. Pricing sensible.

Great pub selling a good range of drinks on tap and spirts. Hot fuzz filmed here, photos of Simon Pegg and cast up on walls along with some props from the movie. Menu choice is good and portions are generous. Food sittings are lunch and evening. Seating outside in courtyard close to Cathedral.

We had dinner here tonight. The food was lovely, really nice menu. The service was outstanding and the owner very interesting to talk to and couldn't of been more welcoming. Very impressed and would highly recommend. A lot of history around the pub and area and we loved the story behind the cast of Hot Fuzz. Lovely location opposite the Well. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Lovely old pub/hotel with plenty of character right in the market square. Stunning views of the Cathedral. Parking available but awkward. Efficient welcome and friendly bar service. However, the room was a slight disappointment. Booked a double, ended up with a large room on the 2nd floor (14) overlooking the square but kingsize bedding over 2 singles pushed together, leaving a hard lump right down the middle of the join. This resulted in lacklustre sleep on both our parts and aches and pains the next day. The bed didn't have a headboard (see photo) just placed up against the wal. The matress of the single was infact comfortable (if we'd have slept alone), which goes against all reasons for requiring a double! Reception staff (late afternoon) couldn't do anything about it as 'fully booked' - not even offered an apology or any recompense and appeared quite non fussed. Perhaps a description should state the possibility of twin beds converted or even having a double mattress available when required. On checkout the next morning, the staff were a lot more apologetic. As for the parking, the spaces are narrow or at awkward angles. We ended up against a wall and had to carry out a 20 point manoeuvre to enter it and even worse to leave. May have been better if earlier guests had parked sensibly. Not the hotels fault however maybe better for the future to reduce the number of marked parking bays available.

I've given The Crown a low rating because of the bed and how it ruined our stay last night, the staff were good and the hotel is in a great setting. When we booked some weeks ago we booked a double room but when we got to The Crown yesterday we found that it was a twin room and The Crown had pushed the two single beds together and thrown a sheet over the two matresses so that it looked like a double bed. Upon discovering this we spoke to the manager but there were no free rooms so we had could not be moved. In the middle of the bed where the edges of the two single mattresses met was ridiculously hard and uncomfortable and we both had a terrible sleep. It really spoiled the experience and impacted the rest of our mini break because this morning we were so tired we decided just to go home instead of following through with our original plans. I would suggest to The Crown that they keep a spare double mattress in storage and when they need to push the single beds together they swap the two single matresses for a double allowing their guests to experience a comfortable bed and a good nights sleep

Disappointing, but friendly and welcoming staff. Great location but our room was very small and hot with no way of adjusting the temp. We did not have a wardrobe and hot-water supply temperamental. Evening meal was poor with the fish from the fish and chips clearly having been fried many times over. At breakfast, there were the same chips on the floor from two nights previously. We cleared them up ourselves in the end. We would have pointed these issues out if we had been asked how our stay was when we checked out.

What a lovely experience we all had for Sunday lunch. We reserved a table for 4 and a dog. We were welcomed straight away and showed to our table. Our waitress Sasha was very friendly and helpful and served drinks and took our order. The food was delicious and our dog thoroughly enjoyed his meal too.

The Crown has accommodation as well as a bar and restaurant, we stayed for one night and also had an evening meal there. We were warned that the car park was small and narrow by The Crown and this we found out to be true, probably the worst pub car park we have ever encountered, managed to park without losing any paint on our car. Check in was straight forward and easy, staff were blunt, not that friendly but efficient. The evening meal turned out to be the highlight, the waitress was very friendly & helpful. Food was good I had a lamb chops which were perfectly cooked. Upstairs where the rooms are is a bit like a rabbit warren. Our room was old and dated and needed a refurb. Summary, we recommend you come here for dinner, park in a municipal car park and don't stay over. oh, in terms of location it receives 5 stars as its only a few minutes walk from the Bishops palace and the cathedral.

Satisfactory food but hap hazard service. The staff seemed disorganised. Beware of the middle aged long peroxide hair waitress. Without a doubt the rudest server I have ever encountered. She must have missed the customer relations training day, because she didn’t have any!

we were well catered for but not a good start as the chairs in the restaurant were literally falling apart. It was pointed out and immediately exchanged for another one in the same state ! The meal was very average , in my case a steak but the cheese board post meal WAS very good

We were disappointed at 1st when we tried to book a table for dinner and were told the restaurant was full so we would be eating in the bar but when we were shown to our table it was in a lovely intimate little area through a gate and up a few steps. It had a fire and was candlelit and was really cosy. Our food was served quickly and was really tasty. We came on for a drink at lunch time and were served by a really lovely man behind the bar. A really nice place to eat right in front of Wells Cathedral.

We pre-booked for Sunday lunch at 2pm and our table was ready with the order being taken without any undue delay. The plated Sunday Roasts looked attractive and were very tasty. The salmon fishcakes came with a small salad. The service was polite and efficient.

Went for lunch on a busy Saturday market day. The pub was busy. Getting service was difficult—even standing in front of the counter you would be ignored. Young waitresses extremely unfriendly. Once ordered, the food came fairly quickly and it was good. The mushroom soup was especially good. It’s a shame that a pub so decorative on the outside and sporting a plaque stating that William Penn (founder of Pennsylvania State) gave a speech from the pub and was promptly arrested, should have so little atmosphere inside. General messiness (unclean tables; napkins on floor) didn’t help. Wouldn’t come here again.

Had lunch on Saturday Market Day. The Market was very busy, as was the Crown Bar/Restaurant. Pretty dismal surroundings with plenty of dogs around. Ordered a Sharing meal, Roasted Camembert, focaccia and pickles/chutneys. Very disappointing…Camembert had little taste, the focaccia ,not warmed but cold and was rock hard with three small dishes of pickles and definitely not worth the £15.00 plus. I remember the Crown from many years ago but it has gone downhill fast …we won’t be visiting again.

Prices are very reasonable. With less salt requested, they can cook foods with little salt. Fried Shirmp E noodles is excellent. Quantity of shrimps was very generous. Fried bean spouts and fried vege are normal. With No broccoli in the mixed vege was disappointed. Plain omelette with fries is ok. Massive hand made spring rolls were given as free. Very nice but salty, but with lots of bean spouts inside, we know that they have to do like this. If not, it will be stinky very soon. Si Chuan Chicken was totally different from then original one. Maybe because the boss come from southern part of China instead of the south west. He was so nice and introduced the attractions in Glastonbury. He do speak Cantonese too.

Never again. Used to order from here all the time, but after the last time I won’t be again. First of all- replace the person on the phone, she is without doubt the rudest person I’ve ever encountered and not the brightest spark either. Ordered Salt and Pepper chips amongst other items, when arrived it was just plain soggy chips. Phoned up and explained that I had been given plain chips, not salt and pepper- said the same thing 4 times. 3 times politely and then quite irritated. You would have thought I was trying to explain a maths equation in Swahili. The girl spoke perfect English there was no language barrier, just pure rudeness. She kept repeating ‘what do you mean plain?’ telling me I was wrong and I need to look in the box, that I need to ‘look for the peppers and onions’ then proceeded to go and tell the chef off the phone that I was complaining and she didn’t know what to do as I was wrong and ‘just not looking’ (yes I could hear you) It got to the point where I had to explain what she could offer, either the correct order delivered or my money back. I told her she can take the chips physically back to see I’m not ‘lying’ and if that was Salt and Pepper they were awful and not worth the price as they had no seasoning, no vegetables. They were just plain chips. The black bean curry was horrendous anyway so spicy you couldn’t eat it and I sent the whole thing back and binned the new chips. Customer service non-existent. 0/10 don’t bother!

Excellent pub. Friendly people. Bar staff are great, except one who clearly has a huge chip and problem. But that is your problem. Be a man or be a woman, but don't be hating everyone else.
