We visited on a Wednesday evening with friends. The pub was quiet. The menu was very limited, which was fine in itself on a weekday, but the quality of the main courses was mediocre. The dessert selection consisted of 2 different types of cake. Not even ice cream! So I wrote a personal letter to the landlord (who is new) to give him an opportunity to at least apologise without my going public with our complaint. He did not even bother to reply. All pubs have bad nights. It happens. But the failure to engage with disappointed guests was unforgiveable. We shall not return.

Have not eaten here for years so was good to give it a try after yet another change of manager. generally all very positive. Both starters were very good and the Moroccan lamb particularly so. Service very efficient and friendly and only less impressive aspect were the deserts which were all along the same theme and the one we had was rather dull and tasteless. A bit of variety woudl not go amiss on this especially in the summer.

The menu has all sorts which makes me cautious. I stuck to a standard pub meal which was actually very well cooked. I had mozarella salad (good, but rather large for me) and buttermilk chicken burger with home made cole slaw and fries - all very good. Looking at the mixed reviews I think possibly they might do better by sticking to a more limited standard pub menu Welcoming to dogs anywhere in the place which is quite unusual.

Visited Saturday & Sunday this weekend , had lunch both days and food quality and portions both very good .On both days the extremely pleasant and very hard working landlady made us feel so welcome to the pub even though very busy and was a breath of fresh of this industry , we will be returning again shortly and just gutted this is not our local pub as seems to have got every think spot on .

We went to The Crown today with two friends to celebrate our anniversary. The food really was top quality. I am famed for making poor decisions regarding steak but gave it a go today with crossed fingers. I had the fillet medallions with black pudding and was so pleased I did as the steak almost melted in the mouth I also had flowers delivered to the pub earlier in the day to give to my wife as a surprise. But the bigger surprise was the two waitresses who sang us a Happy Anniversary song along with a dance when the flowers were presented.A great touch that really made it a wonderful day.Thank You

This was our 'local' while we stayed at Thornhill 2 miles away. Unfortunately it was closed Monday & Tuesday and didn't do meals Sunday night so Wednesday night was our only option. That is a shame as we would probably have done 2 nights there and 2 nights at La Strada with hindsight. This pub is dog friendly - very ! Dogs are welcomed and diners with dogs can sit where they like. The landlady is lovely - chatty and friendly and very welcoming. It felt like we were regulars. Our starter was very slow coming and there had been a mix up, we didn't complain but it was knocked off the bill. Amazing, we would never have asked for that. It was hummus, pitta bread and salad and nicely served and tasty.Mains: my husband had belly pork and mash which he declared to be superb. I had a chicken and mushroom pie as pies seem to be a speciality here. Well yes.... what a fabulous pie ! As tasty as it gets with chips, peas and a very tasty gravy. Absolutely yummy. As it was our last night I lashed out on a pudding and wow. The cherry creme brulee was the best I've ever had served with amoretto ice cream and a shortbread biscuit. Divine !It was clear they were understaffed like so many places currently - but staff rushed round doing their best.We live 130 miles away so can't exactly pop back but if we could we most certainly would. If we had been there another 3 nights we would have eaten there 2 and 1 at La Strada which is close by. Definitely recommended if you are in the area of Royal Wootton Bassett or heading from Swindon to Avebury.

Courteous friendly staff make you feel welcome. We opted for the Sunday roast and we were not at all disappointed. Tender beef, pork and turkey with all the yummy trimmings. The roasties and stuffing were awesome. We would have loved the apple crumble with hot custard but they ran out. Sad faces !! Staff sincerely apologised. Very well worth the visit !!

Staff are young and very efficient and friendly. Garden was about two thirds full but inside only two tables were taken which surprised me what with it being a Friday night. Menu is not over long, burgers and pies dominate with a few meat and veggie choices. Two of us had pies, the filling was tasty but the pastry was slightly hard and took some cutting. Came with chips and peas but would have expected a selection of veg. Desserts are OK but the cheesecake was very heavy and cloying.Expected a bit more going by previous reviews. What we got was just standard pub grub.

I’m always honest and try to give a fair and balanced review of my experience. We found the pub to be rather chaotic, noise levels were so load it was impossible to hold a conversation. There were several families with children who were being allowed to run around their tables and not social distance from other diners. The staff made no effort to try to control this. Some staff were not wearing masks. Staff were slow to take our order, with both drinks and we had to ask if we were to be given menus. We ordered Sunday lunch, but all meals were barely lukewarm. There was a good selection of veg which was hot but all the meat dishes were tough. A bug bear of ours, is why do pubs think that every meat regardless of what it is has to come with yorkshire pud and stuffing? Beef and Yorkies yes, but lamb and chicken? All customers want is a well cooked Sunday lunch with the appropriate sides with gravy that tastes of beef or lamb not a generic gravy to go with everything and served hot. Pudding was the best part of the meal. We left feeling rather disappointed by the experience.

I visited the Crown the last time I was in the area and was impressed so booked a table for this trip as well. A lot of places say the are pet friendly but when you get there they expect you to stay in the garden or the corner etc, not at the Crown, Huki was fully welcomed and able to sit where he wanted, in fact he got abetter reception than we did, exactly as it should be!The team here are very efficient but friendly with it, they definitely have customer service in mind with their customers. The menu is not too large but had just the right amount of dishes to fit with every taste without being cluttered. When you receive your food, it is cooked to perfection and tastes lovely. The décor is spotlessly clean and yet manages to still be inviting, Another enjoyable visit,

I have eaten at this place a few times before but my last meal of fish with salad was rather disappointing. Rather small portion of deep fried fish covered with a lot of flour. And the salad was absolutely unacceptable as there was nothing except some leaves, a couple of threads of I think onion and a quarter of tomato. This never happened before. Perhaps this is the effect of present unpleasant situation. This certainly is not British salad. Eating at some restaurants in the third world countries where two or three pieces of tomato was served as salad. I wonder if I would like to eat here again. However the place is quite big and clean with large open green lawn at the back. On a nice worm day, eaters can sit out and enjoy themselves.

I was craving fish and chips and read online that Crown did fish and chips, so after checking they are dog friendly off, I went. To say they are dog friendly is an understatement, Huki just plonked himself down in the middle of the path and no one complained! I was greeted by a very friendly lady who seated me and took my drink order. The menu is quite varied without being overcrowded. I had the cauliflower fritter for starter and was astonished to learn they can use gluten free batter for whatever you order, it was delicious. Of course, I had fish and chips, with large home-made onion rings on the side, for main and it was so tasty, so much so in fact that I could not finish all the onion rings, which is highly unusual for me.The waiter was one of the friendliest and best presented waiters I have had in a very long time, so polite. My only complaint was that I asked one of the swervers for the dessert menu when they cleared my main course, but I never received it. But that is a minor detail, all in all a lovely meal and evening, it was nice not to be rushed out as you are in many places.

Popped in for lunch with my parents on Friday, very friendly staff, they’re obviously taking COVID very seriously but it hasn’t detracted from the atmosphere. Two of us had pies, which were delicious, the only thing I’d advise for the future would be petit pois instead of garden pea, but perhaps that’s just a personal preference. My father had the bubble and squeak which came with huge slabs of what I believe was home cured ham, looked delicious. Only comment for the future was that was not as warm as he’d have expected, but it didn’t detract from the taste.Overall, we will definitely use again.

Had dinner here when staying in Swindon overnight. Around 10-15 minute drive from Swindon but we'll worth it to avoid poor hotel food. This is a lovely pub with very welcoming and professional staff. We went on a Wednesday which was 'pie night' and were not disappointed. The steak and kidney pie was made on the premises, full of top quality filling and with an excellent thin pastry... Reasonably priced too with good, sensible covid precautions. I would highly recommend you visit and support a worthy independent business. Well done to The Crown. This is the most covid secure place we’ve found since unlocking (we were shielding). Tables really well spaced out, hand sanitiser on the tables, disposable menu’s, one in-one out system for the loos. Great to see face-shields are used when delivering & announcing the food, very sensible. Staff are really so very impressive, friendly & really care about your experience. Food is fantastic every time without fail. Steaks consistently well cooked & the Stilton sauce is very yummy! Fish and chips are the best I’ve ever had. Having eaten from the takeaway menu during lockdown, we decided that our friends' should try it too. The virus protection in place here is second to none! Sanitiser at the door and a small bottle by the table at your seating place, ensured clean hands at all times! The idea of a fence panel between each table is pure genius. Decorated with fairy lights, it made the atmospshere intimate and fun, ensuring no one had any contact with anyone else. The "one in, one out" system for the loo worked well too. Now to the important bit ................ the food. I had steak followed by white chocolate cheesecake with raspberries and ice cream, to die for. The young couple who run the pub are very dedicated to their cause and it shows in the way you are greeted and looked after. Jason is THE best chef, his food is just delicious. What a nice pub. The stand out thing to comment on is the staff. They are a lovely, welcoming, young team who could not do enough for their customers and we were made to feel very welcome. It’s a large pub with a big garden. We enjoyed a salmon pasta dish and a beef casserole. However, there was a wide choice of other items including a selection of pies, steaks, burgers, veggie options and specials. A real fire was roaring away at one end of the pub and it was busy with lots of customers on a Wednesday evening in February so they must be doing something right for a village pub.

When the waitress approached us she got down on her knees and leaned her top half over the table which was a strange way of taking an order she also had a tiresome habit of continually calling us “my lovelies”So we ordered our burger each and the waitress came back after five minutes and said “Burger’s have run out Lovelies sorry what else would you like??” So me and my mate asked for the Duo of pork (belly pork and pork fillets) with dauphinoise potatoes baby vegetables and cider sauce for £18 a portion and the lady we had with us had fish and chips £11.50) the fish and chips looked lovely when it arrived and the lady said it was really nice. However One little thing I noticed, the skin was left on the fish and even chips shops remove it these days. The other two Duet of pork meals were nicely presented and tasty but the portion sizes tiny. Three small pieces of pork tenderloin and a small piece of belly pork a few vegetables and a small square piece of dauphinoise slightly larger than a matchbox. I ate the lot in under five minutes and my mate wasn’t far behind me either. It’s a shame really as it was very tasty but I like a decent plate full of food and dislike leaving a place feeling hungry

Visited with friends on a Saturday evening. My friend is a coeliac and the landlady talked through what she could eat and she was delighted to find out that apart from a few dishes she was able to choose from any main dish on the menu as they could make it gluten free on request! She could also have quite a few of the desserts as they naturally make it gluten free. My vegetarians friends had plenty of choice and liked the different vegetarian dishes on offer. Everyone in our party enjoyed the food very much- tasty, fresh and great portion sizes.

This was our second visit (couple of months apart) and we were still impressed. The food and service has been consistently fantastic. A wide variety of food on the menu including a large number of vegan and vegetarian options. The portion size is large and definitely value for money.

My friends and I had our annual xmas dinner at The Crown in Broad Hinton last night. We were all really impressed, the staff were great, the food lovely and the atmosphere welcoming. Good value for money too, 3 course traditional xmas meal for £25 per head (there were other options if traditional xmas fare is not your thing). Definitely be returning to The Crown in 2019. Thank you The Crown for a lovely evening.

For a mid week visit the pub was absolutely heaving with diners. We hadn't booked so were very fortunate to get a table. Although it was 'steak night' they still offered a full menu; with a good selection of vegan and vegetarian options. The staff were very friendly and the service was quick even though the restaurant area was full. The food was excellent! We'll definitely be returning in 2019.

I visited here a couple of years ago and the food just fell short of expectation. The place is now under new ownership so thought we would give it another go. Tonight was a double birthday celebration so we hoped we were in for a treat.

We had a mix of starters, and for mains some had steaks from the Steak Night menu and others from main menu. The kangaroo and ostrich meal was amazing! All the food was perfectly cooked and served. The waitress was lovely as was the barman who took a phone call from an absent friend to pay our bar bill!! Will definitely be using this as our local..

Went on a Thursday, which is apparently pie night, two pie meals for £20. Great choice of pies (around 10 options ) including turkey and cranberry, steak and stilton, chicken leak and bacon and vegetarian options etc along side the normal menu. You can chose either chips peas and gravy or mash veg and gravy, the pies are fantastic, the pastry is as good as the fillings, add a side of crispy cheesy dumplings and you are there. Will certainly be going back to try the usual menu and also to try the Wednesday steak night ( build your own for £1 an oz) and the Tuesday fish night with lots of special fish dishes A lucky find and worth the drive.

We called in to visit friends at Broad Hinton and decided to call into the Crown for dinner. The menu was basic pub favourites all at a reasonable price. Tuesday night was fish and chips night, so Haddock and chips were on sale. The scampi was really nice served with chunky chips and peas. Our daughter wolfed down the battered Halloumi which she loved. We enjoyed it so much we booked for Sunday lunch.

Came for lunch on a Wednesday and was pleased to see how busy the restaurant was. For a place off the beaten track feeding a couple of dozen covers at lunchtime is a positive indication of its reputation.

We go regularly to this Inn. The food is excellent and the service is excellent. A very nice atmosphere with friendly staff and a lovely beer garden. Excellent for Sunday roasts. Have tried several other pubs, Inns and Restaurants in this area but this is the best by far. Family friendly and dog friendly.

Just come back from a lovely dinner with three of my friends, celebrating a birthday and we had a lovely evening. The pub was quiet, but that was because it was a Thursday evening. As it was pie night, one of my friends had the pie, I had the Filo wrapped asparagus and the two others had battered halloumi and chips and the pork belly. The staff were very friendly, providing us with extra condiments etc for free when so many other places I’ve been to charge you extra for them!

Me and the wife came here after being gutted that the Calley arms had closed, but nothing to worry about easy to get to from Swindon same fantastic Service from the bar staff and waitresses, the food was Delicious black pudding and chorizo starter, followed by a lovely Venison pie for mains the meat and pastry were lovely, we will be back, if i was to be really picky it would be nice to see a proper cider to wash it down with Old Rosie or black dragon etc but this is being very picky, thank you for a fantastic meal :)

Visited this pub because loved the Calley Arms their previous pub. It was my birthday, so ordered a bottle of chardonnay and having taken one sip of this poured by the waitress I said it was horrible. She asked if I wanted something else and I said I would have a bottle Savignon Blanc instead. She said she would have to charge my daughter and I for a medium glass. As it was my birthday I said OK but was not happy. The food was nothing like as good as at the Calley Arms even though I understand it was the same chef. My husband's pork was tough and the crackling was so hard he sent it back, but all that happened is that it came out again with the pork and crackling separated and the crackling put in a separate dish. I tried it and it was really tough. My monk fish was ok but the chorizio was in tiny lumps and not very attractive. My daughter had steak which she said was tasteless but well cooked and she also commented on the tiny lumps of chorizio. My grandson had fish fingers which were very nice. The puddings were fine. I thought it was very very expensive for pub food and especially as it was not very nice. Definitely will not be returning.

The Crown provided us with a satisfactory Sunday Carvery lunch but it was nothing special. There was a choice of 3 meats, no vegetarian option and no other menu available. The selection of veg was quite good and mostly they were cooked fine except the parsnips which were a bit underdone. At £11.95 for only one course it seemed pretty expensive for such a bland roast dinner. The choice of puddings (£5.50) was very poor - only 3 - though I must say the sticky toffee pudding was huge and delicious. The waiting staff seemed disinterested in their jobs and didn’t really seem to interact. A mistake was made with a drink order but it was exchanged without any fuss. Certainly wouldn’t rush back here.

Won’t be back - coffee ok but woeful miserable staff. A smile, a bit of engagement, even eye contact makes a difference - you want to feel welcome rather than an intruder. Surely when money is tight places realise they might have to go that bit extra to encourage people to go back.

Website showed great promise. Kerbside appeal good, car parking good, service very good ( very helpful and friendly). Strange layout inside as its old building, dining room has no bar. Garden not used to its full potential, only very old tired play equipment for children. Food reasonable, 2 out of 3 meals okay. Third meal of chicken disappointing, either poor quality meat or overcooked or possibly both !!!!! Empty on a nice sunny lunchtime !!! Sorry but would not rush back.
