The Crown at Asfordby in Melton

What a shambles. Place is dirty and has old and dated carpets and table which are sticky. Not much to the menu and initially didn’t want to order but thought I try. Took us 20 minutes to even receive the starter and it lacked flavour and looked like it just came from the freezer. Roast wasn’t anything special either and vegetables could be warmer and some attempt to season them would be appreciated. Won’t be returning and it wasn’t worth the money and the staff didn’t look like they wanted to be there ( it’s not hard to smile)

Great local pub restaurant, friendly and relaxed atmosphere with great menu

Took my mum here for Mother's Day and we had a 2 course meal; carvery followed by dessert. The meal itself was beautiful, turkey fell apart and was very juicy however the beef was quite tough on this occasion. In terms of wait times, the restaurant could have staggered the tables going up to get their food as the line was chaotic and meant people eating in that part of the restaurant were overlooked by queuers. The dessert options were decent and tasted very nice, I opted for the chocolate cheesecake and my mother went for the crumble. Staff were all very friendly and attentive. Would recommend a visit if nearby!

Food was lovely but service and attention poor. Meal booked for 4pm after asking to be seated numerous times we finally got seated at 4.30 pm no apology not really made to feel special for Mothers day . Our first meal here 😭

Absolutely lovely pub clean cosy home from home. Beautiful home made chips food tasty buffet food aswell lovely atmosphere lovely staff can’t wait for my carvery Christine is amazing lady who is done a fab job the pub is lovely friendly with nice people lots of portions and great prices defiantly recommend.

Lovely friendly little local, great for a casual drink after a country walk or for celebrating a more formal occasion. Still as good as ever and thank goodness we have 1 pub left in the village.

Nice friendly place, staff welcoming. Very nice carvery, all freshly cooked. Choice of 4 meats, plenty of choice on veg. It was very filling. The puds looked good but were too full. Dogs accommodated in the bar area. Definitely worth a visit.

I’m here for work and decided to pop out for a bite to eat by myself. Upon entering the pub all the tables were empty but the bar had quite a few people in it. Walked up to the bar where I was accosted by a women making remarks about my appearance, seemed to make it a joke in front of everyone. Felt really uncomfortable and left without ordering anything.

Wonderful old pub, great food and service

My partner and I have spent a few evenings here after work. We also get their platter for £14 which allows you to get four sides. We find it such a bargain and I don’t whoever the chef is but they are working magic in that kitchen. The food always comes out cooked amazing, piping hot and incredibly delicious. We usually grab the platter and two drinks, so for two you get two meals for under £20. In this cost of living crisis, you cannot go wrong!

Excellent Carvery Sunday Lunch, lovely cooked food, fresh veg quality meats, lovely staff, no rushing us in, will definitely be back.

We stumbled across the Crown whilst heading home from Melton to nottingham, its got a charming rustic appearance and very pubby feel to the place. i had a massive cheese n ham ciabata with triple cooked chips n salad which was packed with fillings, absolutely delicious and the young lady serving was very nice n smiley and quite funny too!! If I pass that way again I'd defo call in again.

Went for the Sunday Carvery. It's very VERY worth it!!! Depending on what size you choose (standard or large) you get a choice of 2 or 3(sometimes 4) meats. Staff are friendly and nice. It's a great village pub.

A delightful old pub. Food was lovely. Girl serving was polite and smiley. As there was a function on we were sat in the bar area and ordered food. A few locals talking loudly and a bit drunk. Later more came in and it was really loud and obnoxious. This spoilt the whole experience and we should not have been seated there to eat. Should have cancelled our order and left. This place needs to decide if its locals only or do you welcome outsiders?

Wonderful atmosphere, fabulous fresh food beautifuly cooked, and great service. Highly recommended.

Had the Sunday Carvery and it was the best I've had anywhere, Meat was beautifully cooked and tasted perfect, vegetables and gravy were also perfect, service was good with a lovely friendly waitress, will return again

What a lovely experience. We rang up last minute on a Sunday to see if we could get in for Sunday lunch. We arrived at 2.50pm; service finished at 3.00pm and we were made to feel so welcome; nothing was a problem. The Sunday roast was absolutely delicious & the dessert (homemade cheesecake) was to die for. Such a friendly pub, fantastic food and excellent customer service. We'll definitely be back.

Great pub if you are prepared to put up with the rubbish beer and the barrackroom language. Would they use that language in front of their wives like they did mine?

The food here is phenomenal! Everything was made to perfection. The chips taste great and the salad with French Vinegarette was amazing! The cheese and garlic ciabatta was the best I've ever tasted! The atmosphere feels homely and welcoming. The staff are very attentive and extremely helpful! Would highly recommend The Crown to anyone in the area, but is worth the drive if farther a field.

Sunday lunch is great value.. Our family love it here.. Nice little garden for the grandchildren to run around.. Vegetables are fresh and cooked quite al dente which is great for us.. Not sure what could be done but i just wish the restaurant could be upgraded...

We went for Sunday Carvery, food was nice plenty to choose from and a resonable price. Plenty of space to sit and eat, service was quick.

The service we had from the young lady who served us was excellent she made us feel very welcome . The meal we had was from the specials menu (Mexican ) the fajitas they were delicious good ,excellent presentation and red hot . The pub itself was rough around the edges , looked like they had half renovated the little restaurant area we sat in then stopped . The restaurant part we sat in wasn’t very warm and looked like everywhere needed a clean and tiding up.

We had a family gathering at Christmas I didn't enjoy meal food was bland and not very warm also on a cold night it was warmer outside than inside won't be rushing back

Just wanted to say what a fantastic meal we all had at this amazing pub. If going for the carvery make sure you book as when we arrived it was quiet but soon became full. The choice of meats was fantastic and the veg included a great selection. Plus the staff were all friendly and attentive. Great meal thank you.

Better presentation needed and choice of vegetables needs to be thought through as some people do not like the choice also a varied menu needed as not everyone wants carvery and you should keep the supply of all meats going and not run out because a large carvery states up to 4 meats however the staff were really friendly and you certainly got a big piece of meat on your plate and fantastic desserts

Visited a couple Sundays ago, used to really enjoy this place but it has gone down hill, being a carvary, i came early to get a good selection of fresh food but all the meats were dry, roast potatos was soggy and still had skin on, deep fried, the cauli cheese was flavourless, parsnips was deep fried, stale yorkshire pudding and it appeared they had no chef either as the waitresses was being asked to put more food on. Very dissappointing

Only stopped in for drinks, great little pub and a decent choice on the bar.

Excellent landlady & staff who go the extra mile to ensure happy customers. Have used The Crown for events (attractive event space) meals, & drinks. A wide choice of hot & cold drinks inc wines & beers. Better known for good food & plenty of it. EXCELLENT Sunday roasts a speciality which can also be delivered. NOTE: vegetarian & vegan options inc the yummiest cheesecakes!!

Lovely pub land lady opened at lunch time to accomodate our walking Group after our 5mile walk my liver and onions was 😋 and white chocolate roulade for pudding washed down wite a pint of ale thank you for making us so welcome

Had the Sunday lunch carvery. What a cracking little find this place is. The food like the service was impeccable. The home-made cheesecake was epic too. We will definitely be coming back.

While staying at Eye Kettleby Lakes on a very windy & wet day, we found that The Crown did takeaway Sunday Lunches & would deliver to our caravan pitch. It was very easy to order online, we both had beef & turkey with an extra side of pigs in blankets, absolutely delicious, very generous portions & hot when it arrived, finished off with Jam roly poly & custard & cheesecake of the day which again were lovely. We can highly recommend this pub.

Just moved to this area and so had lunch here. Im coeliac so needed gluten free options, they accommodated me brilliantly, using clean tongs and fresh veg for me. Reasonably priced and very nice food.

Lovely place to go for a carvery ,4 joints to choose from and plenty of veg. I was amazed my food was hot which I love, as alot of carverys places dish up meals that are warm. MY meal was lovely 😋 and I would definitely book again. Just a heads up dining area small so need to book up early.

Had a lovely sunday roast with a choice of 4 meats lots of veg with yorkshire puddings followed by excellent deserts. The lady mentioned to us that they had some new staff today which were training and they all did brilliantly and were such nice friendly girls too xx well worth the money too xx

I have eaten here previously and it has been okay, but the last time was not so great, and today was dire. We made a telephone booking only to be told on arrival that there were no tables & I would have to eat in the bar. several staff advised that they were "short staffed", but this just meant that those present were chasing around in an unplanned way filling gaps. The chef must has been one of the absentees, the quality of the food was sadly lacking - over cooked and over salted. Lack of Management seems to be the order of the day!

Great meal out. If you order one the pizzas make sure you hungry.

Had Sunday lunch delivered and it was the worst purely because it was stone cold so meat was dry, yorkies awful and it just ruined it 🤷🏼‍♀️ Lesson learnt to not have delivery Sunday lunch.

Fantastic! I have had the Sunday carvery and pudding delivery several time now. The food is wonderful and tastes delicious. Always plenty of food! The staff that deliver the food are always friendly and helpful. I appreciate the deliveries may come to an end when Covid is over. However, it has been a wonderful treat for me who is mostly housebound (prior to Covid). Thank you xx

Ordered Sunday lunch to be delivered for Mothers Day and have to say was impressed. Were a few minutes late but given the day am sure they were very busy. Each meal came individually portioned up with a small cup of lovely gravy and all was cooked really nicely. Deserts were fabulous too. Would definitely use again

Lively village centre pub, currently in lockdown they offer a deli counter and American candy shop as well as locally made candles/wax melts etc.

After I stupidly ordered my valentines meal for the wrong day. The lovely lady I spoke to completely understood and still refused payment for having to make my food again the night after. I was so grateful and our food was absolutely superb would 100% recommend! Thank you again.

Had a Sunday roast takeaway yesterday (15/11/2020) it was lovely- standard portion size was more than adequate. Delivered on time. Will definitely use again.

Had a takeaway carvery and cheesecake delived to us on Sunday! It was well Portioned and hot and tastes like a proper home made Sunday roast i would of done myself! Plenty of veg mash, roast potatoes and meat! And pudding what can I say best salted caramel cheesecake I have ever tasted!!!!!

Great local pub, food was brilliant, good variety on the menu. Screens and spacing between tables were good and felt covid secure. Staff were friendly and responsive.

We visited The Crown on our holiday and was very good. We were greeted by a lovely lady and seated very quickly on a table with no others around which felt more comfortable during COVID times. We ordered chicken kebabs to start which were lovely. Our main we had the steakstone which was amazing. It came with chips, 3 types of butter and sauces, side salad, mushroom, tomato and we ordered a side order of peppercorn sauce. This was a lovely cut of meat and could cook it how I wanted. I had never done this before and I was very impressed with the stone. The lady also explained how to use the stone if we hadn’t had this before. We chose chocolate fudge cake for desert which came warm and with a scoop of ice cream. This was just delicious. Unfortunately we ate it very quickly so don’t have a picture to show. All in all, a great meal with very staff and service. Would recommend if you are staying at Eye Kettleby Lakes, as this is a short drive from the accommodation.

Lovely local pub very friendly and great for all ages and even well behaved dogs are allowed.

Had fantastic meals over the few weeks ! Tonight we both had the steak and while mine was great the hubby's wasn't up to your standard! Sorry to say it was tough although the dogs enjoyed it! Hasn't put us off ordering again!

Great food and very welcoming staff. Went at Friday lunchtime and chose from the 2 meals for £15 offering. Good tasty homemade food. Just the right portion size for lunch. Great value. Would definitely go back.

The food here is always good quality, fresh and homemade, reasonably priced, the bar, restaurant and toilets are very clean and the staff are very friendly and welcoming, I’ll definitely come back again.

Called in whilst I had an hour to kill before next meeting. Weather was miserable but the trade was decent. Just called in for a sandwich, had the goats cheese ciabatta with a few chips as a side. I have to say they were probably the best home made chips I've ever tasted. The ciabatta was very good as well and all reasonably priced. Service excellent as well. Loved the fact that it's an independent little cosy village pub with a great fireplace. I will have no hesitation in popping by when I'm the area again.
