The Crown in Runnymede

After seeing the crown go up and down in terms of many different things, as I have been in Egham a few years now and frequenting various pubs! I would say the crown is a fantastic pub with lovely staff also. I do not visit for food too often, but when I have, it’s been lovely. Their sharing platter was particularly nice, with calamari, delicious brie and breads - I love the sweet potato fries also! The staff are very friendly, kind, and fun to chat with also. I work in hospitality myself nearby, and appreciate a good chat when I get off work and visit for a drink. They are always welcoming! Special thanks to kind staff - Manny, Sam, Neeve, James, Tobin and Noah (and some more I do not know personally) are always kind to me when I visit. Thanks to the team - I will always visit the crown for drinks when I can, yet I have a tight schedule often!

Sam, Manny and Niamh had the best customer service. Were so friendly and helped us choosing our drink choices. 10/10 from them all, thank you for making us enjoy our time even more!

Very large portions for both starters and mains . We had prawn and calamari starter and chilli jam sausage starter and they were hot and huge . We struggled with the lovely tasty mains - Sausage and mash and hunters chicken All were fresh and hot The staff on Thursday lunchtime were very helpful and friendly We would recommend this place

Don't waste your time, go anywhere but the Crown. The so called chef the microwave technician told customer to go f..I his mother because he complained about food and missing items their plates.The Crown are desperate and will employ any old druggie.

First visit on Sunday we sat outside for drinks , pleasant service from the Bar , we decided to have Sunday lunch my partner had the beef ribs which he enjoyed apart from the mash potato tasteless . I picked the Roast turkey it came no Yorkshire pudding I ask the young girl and she went and got me one I then noticed no stuffing, I just ask to take it away, she brought it back , it had 4 off the smallest roast potatoes I have ever seen, which is a joke when advertise you can have more Yorkshire roast potatoes gravy, no body ask if it was ok until plates were cleared, very disappointing for a first visit:-(

Popped in for a couple of drinks early evening. Greeted by Sam behind the bar who welcome us with genuine enthusiasm. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed with a good range of drinks. Will be coming back when next in the area.

Went for a drink whilst in the area, was pleasantly surprised. Great friendly atmosphere, great service from Sam who served a decent pint of Directors. Will definitely return.

Captain Samuel poured a delightful pint and was a great way to meet new people. Loved the hawaiian shirt too, really brought an energetic vibe to the evening.

Good for drinks not for food Went for drink and dinner. Staff were great and really friendly. We ordered food. Starter was bread and olives. Sold out of olives. Chose sausage with chilli jam. Clearly microwaved bbq sausage arrived. Ordered gammon. It was drowned in more salt than in the sea. Inedible. Decided not to chance pudding. Not great for date night for food. Great for pre drinks.

Horrible pint of Amstel , bordering on un-drinkable and it fairness , you have to try very hard to keep a crap pint of lager. Will not return.

I booked lunch for myself and four friends, all of us coming from a different direction and one of us travelling more than 50 miles. In mid morning of the booking date I got a message that they had "technical problems in the kitchen" and so could not serve lunch. To check out the message I called, only to get through to a remote booking service. Any call to the pub itself was met with an answering service. I had to urgently book an alternative venue and meet my friends at the Crown to tell them the location. I popped into the Crown but the place was deserted. How it gets any positive Trip Advisor reviews is anyone's guess. Based on my first impressions it doesn't deserve any stars.

Went for a roast after reading lots of good reviews and it did not live up to the expectation. They sat us right next to another group of people when the entire restaurant was empty so we requested to move. I had a mixed roast which I have had at various other pubs, and this was the worst I have had. There was barely any meat, and although the meat was tender it was not up to par with the quality of other meats I have eaten. It was very thinly sliced and not worth the money whatsoever. There was an inconsistency with the roast potatoes, mine were fairly edible however my friend’s were undercooked and underwhelming. The vegetables were just bad and we only got one piece of broccoli each, the parsnip was especially awful as it was rock hard and so badly underdone. The only reason we ate it was because we were starving. The amount of gravy was also not sufficient and the roast came cold. The barman looked like he wanted to be literally anywhere else and was not warm or friendly. My geriatric grandmother makes a better roast than this. Overall, really not a good experience I could not recommend less.

3pm on Sunday. The front garden is filthy. Broken glass on the floor, cigarette ends on the tables and on the chairs, tobacco all over one of the tables. Cigarette ends in the plant pots. Ashtrays all full of yesterday morning’s rain water and cigarettes floating in them all. Rubbish on the floor. So I went to the back garden and it was even worse!! I have never ever seen such disgusting pub gardens. It actually made me feel sick. We decided to have a drink inside. I asked for a de-caff coffee. Barman said they don’t have it. My husband asked for a pint of Madri. Barman says they’ve run out of Madri. I definitely won’t be returning to this vile disgusting filthy place

rather disconcerting experience - altho my friend paid for the meal, so i tried not to make too much fuss at the time - ordered slow cooked rib, which arrived with no vegetables until i had to ask (original cabbage had run out) and was eventually supplied with burnt roast carrots and a rather more pleasant red cabbage, although by now the beef had gone cold ....friends son ordered the only dessert among us, a rhubarb and custard sundae, which on arrival was clearly nothing of the sort, and consisted of brownie and caramel sauce (no explanation as to why the substitution) - however, being a bottomless pit of a 20yr old, he happily scoffed the lot, personally i would have sent it back.....we had a dog with us, she got better service overall :/

Good food and served well. Can be a bit of a wait when busy but a friendly environment. Very dog friendly with dog treats available.

Stopped off for some dinner here. Nice little pub just at the end of Egham highstreet. Person on the bar was very friendly and welcoming. I had a pint of Guinness and the Sausage and Mash. Both amazing. Definitely recommend this plate if you want something quick to eat.

Happy that they serve Aspall on tap! Spacious with a nice vibe. Ordered a bar snack - chilli jam sausages. They were just that! Maybe a little well cooked with a lot of jam but a nice compliment to a proper British cider

No atmosphere, no welcome from staff. When we ordered the food at the bar it was obvious it was the bar girls first day judging by the support she needed. No problem with that other than there's more to standing behind the bar such as customer interaction, looking in my general direction would have been nice and possibly- dare I say - a smile! The food was appalling. Sausages barely cooked looking raw, the mash tasted like it was cooked yesterday, the red cabbage tolerable- the gravy was nice. Luke warm coffee was a mistake- we shouldn't have expected any better. I definitely wouldn't ever eat there again & I wouldn't recommend it.

Shocking just shocking. Lizzy/izzy? Just dumped dirtly cutlery on to of the dirty table and the manageress just laughed. Went to complaint but she just walked away.

This afternoon we went for a family meal in the Crown Egham . There were four adults and a two year old . We all ordered food , only one out of the five meals were edible. The chips were so dry and the potato content was non existent . Burger buns were burnt and the chicken was so over cooked you couldn’t eat it . How can they get four meals so wrong ? Very disappointed and will not return there for food again .

Went for Sunday lunch and the food was OK but only OK. For the price I would have expected more and the menu looks impressive. Not much of an atmosphere and when you are out for food I would expect to be served at the table. There was also a old smell to the pub as if not clean!

One gets the impression this establishment is being deliberately run down. What used to be the best pub in the area but not anymore. Staff seem poorly trained with no sign of any management - great reluctance to clear and clean tables. Very few customers and no atmosphere. Sad decline that can only go in one direction - and that is closure.

Only scored 1 as Zero not an option First meal was the leftovers of the Sunday Roast, luke warm, gravy obviously from the bottom of the pan, veg was totally overdone and tired Immediately rejected and the manager freely admitted there was insufficient left to offer another roast Ordered from what was available from the rest of the menu and they seemed to have forgotten about us for 20 minutes until we asked Meal then arrived and was so over cooked it was inedible, we pushed the food around the plate for another 20 minutes in the forlorn hope that someone would at least take the time to check on us as all members of staff nowhere to be seen, eventually we left the meal and simply walked out The management has no idea on running a place of hospitality, nor do the members of staff appear to have been trained in Customer service Very very poor

Food was pretty poor. The burger in particular was made from low quality cheap frozen patty. The fish pie was tasteless. The barman was stroppy and didn’t smile once when ordering or serving our food. Avoid.

Worst roast I’ve ever had, it was like they were trying to make bad food. Gravy tasted like water, meat like cardboard, inedible potatoes, forgot the pork crackling and carrots. Wouldn’t feed this to a starving orphan, too cruel. Shame on you.

Don’t order the roast. Tasted like someone had run it over before putting it on the plate. A victorian orphan ate better than I did today.

Do not believe what they say about their cask ales. They are awful! They don't know how to keep it. Drink lager instead.

Tried one of their triple roasts. Very fresh and hot, was delicious but make sure you get in their early as they run out quickly. Would recommend having a Sunday lunch here!

The staff at the Crown couldn't have been more helpful, especially Kat. The food was lovely - 11 out of 10 for the honey bread pudding! And the beer was also good. Altogether a great experience and we would all highly recommend this pub.
