The Red Lion Pub in Runnymede

I popped in because I used to work there 40 years ago. I had a glass of wine, asked for ladies which turned out to be where the kitchen was when I was cook. The bar person was very friendly and welcoming. Would recommend, looks like they have local regulars still.

Nice little pub friendly staff slightly pricey but most pubs are hence why most pubs are empty now,

A fantastic Sunday roast the best I’ve ever had! I had the beef roast which was tender and juicy in a delicious and rich gravy. The roast potatoes were fluffy and Yorkshire pudding was crispy and light. The vegetables were cooked amazingly. My partner had the risotto and enjoyed it a lot also. The staff were very helpful and friendly. A fine job all round!

We visited family in Egham and the Red Lion was recommended to us for a bite to eat, tpical pub with pleasant decor and a good variety of food on the menu. I was served by Nazar and nothing was to much trouble, always attentive, even though it was quite busy when we were there, we had a great day, and would highly recommend if you are visiting Egham, I'll most certainly be back, special thanks to Nazar and Christophe for making us feel welcome and providing us with great chats and service, you are a credit to the red lion!

So we were attending a family dinner at the pub we were a large group (14) and were meeting for a family funeral the next day The food was very average, some better than others. My risotto was thick and heavy but my mum's fish was really good. I went to the bar to order another round of drinks and requested a glass of viognier which was listed on the menu and the female staff member ( young girl, long dark hair) said we don't stock that I pointed out it was listed on the menu, she then said they had none available. I then pointed to the half full bottle in their bar fridge. She was immediately irritated. She turned her back on me and poured all the drinks with her back to me. I them asked for an appeltise and she smacked the bottle onto the bar. No offer of a glass or ice. And again completely nonverbal until she told me how much I owed. All other staff were friendly but she let the place down. The following day we were back at the pub in the function room for the funeral and as we were winding down later that evening the same girl decided that it was an opportune moment to bring the mop and bucket into the midst of family who were sat in a circle chatting and just stand there again saying nothing but waiting for the family to move so she could begin mopping the area behind us, it felt as though she was trying to signal that we needed to get out It was so rude and disrespectful. Very much giving mean girl vibes The room had been hired for the family, The pub wasn't closed people were still in the bar and beer garden so there was no need to do this. Such a shame as it was already a very difficult day and she really let the pub down, definitely wouldn't return here after that .

Great food for a local pub..delicious 👌

I visited The Red Lion some weeks ago and upon checking just noticed that it was late August but have been back since. I always ask what the daily Specials are (soup, curry, pie) and as one of the chef's - Pawel - walked past my table I asked him what the specials are. I love their curries but it was Chicken Korma which is far too mild for my tastebuds so I opted for the Shepherd's Pie. The waitress (Brogan, sadly no longer works there) was raving about it. My goodness, she was right, I rarely have Shepherd's Pie but this dish took it to another level. Pawel, who had cooked it, used lamb meat pieces rather than minced lamb. It is by far the best Shepherd's Pie I have ever eaten, my tastebuds were tingling and every bite was a new revelation. As much as I tried, I could not finish the pie and vegetable medley so I brought it home and thoroughly enjoyed the left overs in the evening. Well done Chef! The Menu in The Red Lion is varied and there is plenty of choice for everyone's palate. They have changed their winelist, which offers a good selection although at higher prices than before but the wines are still good value for money and reasonably priced compared to other eateries in Egham (except for Polow, the Iranian restaurant).

Not sure what's happened here; used to be good. Yeh, beer still good, but place is filthy, and there's no control; customer language and behaviour pretty bad, and allowed to be. Sadly, and embarrassingly, took a friend there to eat. Mistake!

Absolutely wonderful meal and very friendly service, would recommend the Red Lion.

Imagine spending your money in a pub, like over a 100 pounds. Meeting new people who like you and you like them. Then some women enter the pub and start abusing people you just meet. Then trying to calm things down and end up being accused yourself off doing wrong. The people who were accused left and I stayed cause I did nothing wrong and wanted to Finnish the drinks I paid for. The so called bar manager, some eastern euro dude asked you to talk to him and already made his decision you are in the wrong and basically tells you to leave and accuses you of harassing, which absolutely did not happen . Stay far away from this pub. The police had to come to finally let me go and finish my drink. What an absolute joke this place is. These women who were clearly up to cause problems maybe spent 6 pounds…… and I, so where others, who choose to leave, where shamed and abused after completely entertaining our and myself and others ln for over 150-200 pounds and fun fact is, I only fall for women over 50 lol. So really the wrong guy to accuse. What a very very bad experience this was after a great night out.

Getting to expensive to drink in here. Prices seem to be going up every other month.

I went with my friends to have food and drink. And I found food was so delicious. Excellent service. Mr Rowdy, Head Chef cooked a beautiful tasty food for us. His service was so amazing. We all enjoyed his meal a lot. Will visit again. I highly recommend to every one to have a great meal and drink there. and have a great evening out. Perfect place for families and friends.

What a shame we have been many times and had lovely food ,but this time it was disgusting if we were not going to a funeral and we had more time it would have been sent back ,tuna jacket was left as it was foul ,the salad on all the plates the cucumber was very dry the tomatoes soft and mushy ,the cheese on thd nachos was nasty and tasty of flour about three jalapeños on them .It was the worst food we have ever had in a pub

Best evening ever. We hired the function room for our wedding reception, buffet was amazing, staff were absolutely great, private bar and staff for whole evening? Booked function room for 50th Birthday. Everything was perfect. Excellent facilities, use of speakers and lights for disco, private bar, good sized room. The food provided was excellent, plenty for everyone and very good quality. Kryz and the team did a fantastic job. Very friendly and accommodated all my requests. Attention to detail was excellent but unobtrusive. A fantastic evening that i was abke to enjoy without having to worry about anything. Definitely recommend for any functions

Decent enough pub on the High Street with some outside space. Staff always efficient and friendly. Haven't used it but their private hire space looks good and popular. Mainly go there for food which is decent. Wish they'd change their menu a bit more often and add fries as their chunky chips aren't great.

I regularly visit The Red Lion Pub/restaurant, mostly during the week but last Sunday I decided very last minute to go there for a roast dinner. I was pleasantly surprised that they had a table and even more so that they still had roast lamb. I ordered the children’s portion which was ample and the roast lamb was amazing as were the accompaniments. The quality of food was matched by the friendly and efficient service of the team.

We hired the function room for a family funeral. Room is very comfortable and well furnished. The staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble. There was plenty of tasty food, tea and coffee was included and people could buy drinks from the barn. Highly recommended.

The Red Lion hosted a funeral wake for us. Their function room at the back was excellent for the purpose. More people turned up than expected but the staff went out of their way to make everything run smoothly. The buffet was excellent and there was plenty of food. Highly recommended.

What a lovely place friendly people excellent service. My Daughter hired the Hall. The food was layed on .it was Hot and plenty full. Beautiful spread. Delicious.. I thank all the staff out front and behind the scenes in the Kitchen.

The Red Lion is the best! Love the team - Etain, Krzysztof, Lewis, James, Brogan, and the guy with the lovely silky hair. Always a kind welcome and if I'm lucky, even a little dance with the manager. Great selection of beers and spectacular pizzas. They show sports and host fun events - my favourite was the psychic one. It's my favourite local. I'm especially keen on table 108, which is located under the good heater.

Went in on a Friday night. Noisy but respectful locals. Pie was nice. Ham on the ham egg and chips was phenomenal- thick sliced and served hot. Would return if I visit the area again

Very pleasant pub for lunch. Decent wines by the glass. All lunch menu items that we tried were homemade and freshly cooked.

After not eating for nearly a week I felt quite hungry on Saturday while I was in town and went to The Red Lion. I decided to have the Steak and Ale Pie with mashed potato and greens and my goodness, it was soooo tasty. There was a lot of good quality meat in the pie dish but I knew that if I managed to eat half I would have done well and I did. I love the 'fluffy' top (puff pastry) on the pie. I brought the remainder home and had it for my dinner on Sunday and it was just as tasty. Well done Jonathan and everyone in the kitchen. The quality of food is matched by the excellent service which on Saturday was provided by Etane, Brogan and James.

From walking through the door on Christmas Day to leaving was wonderful, thank you and well done to everyone involved. Plates full of delicious, hot, food, attentive staff.

We booked Christmas lunch out for the first time this year, our original booking was for nine people but after an unexpected admission to hospital only 7 could make it. The manager happily refunded the money we paid in advance. The food was amazing, home cooked, loads of meat and fresh vegetables, overall excellent set meal, reasonable price and the staff were outstanding. Thank you for giving up your Christmas day to make ours very enjoyable.

Every time I visit I think to myself I must come here more often. Great food - calamari is perfection, not chewy at all, chips are always fantastic and the pizzas are gorgeous. Service is also always lovely and there is a welcoming atmosphere. I really must come often - thank you

My visit to this pub left much to be desired. The food was a major letdown – tasteless, poorly executed, and it seemed like the chef lacked any culinary finesse. To make matters worse, I received the wrong dish, highlighting a lack of attention in the kitchen. However, the silver lining was the friendly staff who tried their best to remedy the situation. Despite the amiable service, the overall dining experience fell flat due to the disappointing quality of the food.

Had a lovely lunch here with our student daughters. Such a lovely welcome. The place is decorated really nicely. The menu is great with a good selection of food choice for all. Plenty of drink choice as well. Staff were very accomodating when we added a late member of the party. Food quality was very high and all plates were wiped clean!! Puddings were yummy and we werent pressurised to give up the table. Had a very relaxed visit and we will definetly be back there when our daughter students need feeding!

It's a bit expensive and the meals are really small portions so you're better off ordering the side dish chips since that's actually more filling than ordering an actual meal for some reason? The staff is really friendly and the toilets are clean.

Good old fashioned high street pub,great food (go for the chilli nachos). Great service, all you need for a great lunch time experience.

We came across this pub by luck. We were served instantly upon entering. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was lovely and reasonably priced. We called by a few days ago. TBH we found this place by luck. Having just dropped our daughter at Heathrow. We were treated like old friends. The service was swift and friendly. The food was lovely ( chicken balti curry with rice, and scampi with chips.) The price was good too. Very friendly bar staff. We would definitely return.Thanks

First time here. Food was flavorful and came out quickly. Drinks were reasonably priced. Not quite sure what they put in the mojitos but it was a blue green color. Tasted okay but not great.

Very traditional old pub in a beautiful building directly on the High Street in Egham. Very welcoming and super friendly staff - a big thank you goes to James and Mal for making my day! They’ve got a big menu plus an additional pizza menu - out of which I chose the ‘meat packing’ which was super tasty and super sized with a super - well - meat packing! Fortunately I was really hungry after the classic car show and hadn’t eaten all day! Reasonably priced for the high quality of freshly prepared food. Had nice cold Peroni beer on the tab. This was my very first time ever in Egham and I can’t praise this pub highly enough. I noticed amongst the customers a good number of what clearly seemed to be local tradesmen and regulars - this is a very good thing to see and adds to the fantastic experience.

Nice service but the food was mediocre at best, the burgers need seasoning, like most pubs the drinks prices were ridiculous at £6 for a pint of cider !!!

Service appalling, very very long wait for our order and this was at 6pm. Poor choices on menu, should have looked for a Wetherspoons.

I still regularly visit The Red Lion for lunch and am always made to feel welcome. Last week my friend and I had lunch and were impressed with their new menu, with some exciting new additions. There are no more Specials (Curry or Pie) but so many choices on the menu In the evening they also offer pizza. We also liked the new wine list which is reasonably priced and were looked after well by Lewis throughout our visit which was rather lengthy.

We hired the Red Lions function room for my mum's 90th birthday. We invited a mixture of age groups, family and friends. I can honestly say from the moment I inquired, until the moment we had finished the afternoon. I was totally satisfied with the service. The welcome drinks were ready, the buffet was plentiful, and tasty, Christophe checked with me throughout the afternoon to ensure the timings were still as discussed. Thank you so much for making the afternoon go without a hitch, I will have no hesitation in recommending The Red Lion to friends.

There was a hair in the burger but besides that it was pretty good. The steak was decent, a little overcooked and few sides to it but great experience and kind staff.

A very decent English pub. Football is often showing.

I had my 60th birthday party in the Function Room with family and friends. We were able to set up the Room in the afternoon exactly how we wanted it. The separate bar in the Room was run perfectly with friendly and helpful staff. The staff catered to all our needs and couldn’t have been more attentive. The food was excellent and plentiful. We couldn’t have wished for a better venue to host a party which was stress free and everyone told us how much they enjoyed themselves.

What a fantastic pub! We visited here yesterday for a family get together, there were 14 of us and Krzysztof and team were absolutely brilliant. We pre ordered our food but as we were travelling from Birmingham and Brighton, they waited until we were all there before cooking it and bringing it out. Food was delicious and we were able to use their function room which is a great space. Will definitely visit again when we have another meet up, definitely recommend!
