I'm going to be fair with this review as it had its good side, but then some points were not so good. Visited with a large party of 17 and were asked to pre-order, which is not a problem. However, we were then told just to order on arrival. After ordering, we all sat waiting for an hour before any food came out, main courses first rather than starters. Steak and ale pie had good reviews, as did other dishes. 3 of us ordered the chicken kebab, which didn't come out for an hour and a half. When I asked why the wait was so long I was simply told that there was one chef who was doing their best. The chicken was clearly not freshly cooked and was hard and dry, so the plate wasn't really edible. All in all, a bit hit and miss.

Disgraceful a very average pub charges customers for parking, had a fine of £100 in the post after meeting a friend. Would never visit again but I do recommend the pub just around the corner! A lovely pub with FREE parking!! Shocked the crown doesn’t remind customers to pay for parking but understandable as customers would go elsewhere instead.

Dined here while visiting the RAF museum, great welcome from the staff. Great wine selection and my partner loved his ales. Food arrived quickly and was great. I loved the garlic mushroom chicken special and my partner enjoined his steak rib and wing combo. We will defo return when back in the area.

Visited for lunch on Christmas Day. Experience was top class - far, far better than last year when we went to a much pricier, 4-star Wolverhampton hotel.Food was cooked well (even the sprouts were spot-on!) and served efficiently.Five of us had vegetarian options - again much better than other establishments we have previously visited for Christmas Day (and who often seem to treat vegetarians as a breed to be merely tolerated).Lots of nice touches - such as individual gravy boats and sorting out a last minute change to our sweet orders.Everyone cleared their plates.Staff very helpful and pleasant with the landlord actively ensuring that all went well.Prices very reasonable. Good atmosphere too and not overcrowded (contrary to the tendency in many places of ramming as many customers in as possible). All in all, best Xmas Lunch the family has had for years - will book immediately again for next year.

We only recently discovered this really nice pub in Albrighton.Surprising spacious inside and divided into several areas, which I find to be a refreshing change from all the 'open plan' places that we come across these days. Yesterday was our second visit to The Crown for a Saturday evening meal. It was every bit as nice as the first time, accompanied by some very good Merlot, served by lovely friendly staff and well priced. We could easily have stayed until the place shut, and I did remark that I wished we lived next door!.. Unfortunately we don't, we live 5 miles away, so we had to catch a train home at the nearby station.. one that also doubles up as a real ale pub... happy days! Obviously we shall be back there soon, cheers!

Visited the crown on a Sunday afternoon and felt a little peckish, but not enough for a full Sunday lunch. Asked the gaffer if he could make me a snack, maybe a beef sandwich. When it arrived it was amazing, thick cut bread and a huge slab of beef. Fresh bread and melt in the mouth beef. Perfect.

We were recommended this restaurant/hotel by locals. We weren't disappointed, as the food was copious, tasty, and very reasonable. The manager at the time, Anthony, was quite a character, and treated us very well. We have been there since, to find a new manager, as Anthony had moved on to a career he talked to us about when we were there. Again, the new manager was friendly, with a good banter, which we found great between the locals and us Welsh! The second visit was as good as the first, and have no hesitation to recommend this lovely place if you are passing close by.

I have used this Pub for a number of years now and have always found the food to be excellent. It has recently under gone a refurbishment and a new menu is now on offer. If you are Vegetarian, Gluten free or just like food, then this is the place to visit, owned by Marston`s the food quality is just as good as when I first visited. The service is also good, but if they are busy, then expect a short wait.

I've eaten there a few times and the quality and preparation of the food hasn't changed much. Seems to be a lot of microwaveable food and clearly not fresh cooked in the main. When the recent management took over (the refurb is really nice by the way) they employed kids to run the bar and the service was terrible. However, they have invested in some new staff and service much better. If you want typical cheap pub food and a good range of real ales, the Crown's ok, but if you want fresh-cooked quality food, I'd suggest the Crown staff try Frederiques down the road to get a measure of what good tastes like. I went there recently and they're in a different league at not so different prices.

Visited with a friend for an early tea midweek. Pleasantly surprised. Last time I visited a few years back the decor and furnishings needed updating and the food tasted and looked as though it had been cooked earlier and reheated in the microwave when required and the menu was typical pub food, pies, burgers and scampi. My friend said that since it had been refurbished the food was cooked to order and with a greatly improved menu. She was right, you are spoilt for choice from both the menu and specials board. We both had lamb shank with mash and veg and it was delicious and very filling, sadly we couldn't manage a dessert . Our food was brought to us promptly by the friendly host/manager and the prices were very reasonable. I won't wait so long to visit again!

Just had a meal for lunch in the crown so let's start with the good bits...scotch egg starter with onion chutney was lovely...sorry that's itNow for the bad part. My wife ordered the beef barbacoa sandwich which said smoky pulled beef. First mouthful and it was inedible for her as it was so spicy and had some kind of chillis in it yet not stated on menu. Informed bar staff who went to speak to chef who then in turn berated out complaint within ear shot of where we satWas told this is how it comes and you can order something else but we're not offered a refund and so will have to pay for any alternative meal.Note of warning only one item on menu with a chilli mark denoting spice level....and that's a curry!!!!Seriously disappointed since refurbished and new menu says it all when on opening night they wasn't even ready to serve!!!Beer ok but don't eat here...mind you looks like most people in the village don't anyway!!

Been a few times to eat since new opening after refurb and not impressed. A lot of finishing touches needed for a polished service. I wouldn't recommend the food as yet. Lots of practice needed to get the basics right. Don't put homemade on the menu if not homemade. Frozen seasoned wedges are not hand cut chips/wedges. Raw mushrooms on salad??? Jacket potatoes that seemed a day old, no mayo? I think we'll leave it a few months till we go back and try the food again. A shame really as being the central pub in the village it should make a killing! Maybe a smaller menu so quality can be improved upon

I am in the area with my partners family so went out for a few drinks and a bite to eat. Had a few sips from my pint of coke and then found lipstick marks on my glass. I wasn't wearing lipstick and I don't fancy sharing someone else's. I've worked in hotel bars and I know dishwashers don't get all the crap off the glasses but I know to at least get a cloth, get the marks off the glass and them buff them up.

I have been working in the area fro over a year now and the crown is a regular visit for myself and the people I work with. we have got to know the staff very well and they us. we always go down for the food especially steak night. we always receive a very warm welcome and have great banter with the staff and the other patrons. the crown has a great warm feeling about it and nothing is ever to much for the staff. we are always told about the offers they are having or events they are planning. we are very much looking forward to the events of the 27.02.2015 and also St Patricks day with the crown putting on live acts which is brilliant to see as it its based in a small area with options for entertainment are limited.in all I would say it is a definite place to visit whether on a night out, going for a quiet drink or popping in for lunch.

Calling in after a morning of driving I was greeted by the pleasant staff behind the bar, This was Michelle who is the manager, ordered drinks and took the menu to a table not too far. I chose the chicken burrito with bbq sauce and toasted cheese and my friend ordered the house hamburger, the pub was busy and quite a few people were eating with no complaints.Around 20 mins later our food arrived hot and smelling fantastic, bought to us by a lovely server called Kerry, she asked us if we required any further condiments and left us to our food. As pub food goes it was hot, tasty and well presented. No complaints from either myself or my friend with his burger. Prices were excellent and the wait time was more than acceptable. Overall a nice lunch, lovely pub and happy, welcoming staff, thanks!

I recently visited and was very disappointed. Don't go to this pub!I ordered a rare steak, and received a well done! I pointed this out to my server who went to get a replacement. 20 mins later she came back with, another well done steak. As I had already waited more than an hour at this point I just ate the well done steak. The assistant manager offered no apology, no offer of discount or refund. Instead she tried to argue that the steak was medium! What matter when I ordered it Rare! She also gave the explanation that the chef was new, and had no training!? Would not recommend here, the pool room actually smelt of farts! Instead go down the road to the Shrewsbury. Its a much nicer venue, with a proper manager!

I have lived in the village for years and watched the steady decline of the Crown, whilst other pubs have risen from the ashes. It is a shame as it is a lovely looking pub but with so many stand in tenant managers over the last few years it has been very up and down standards for the pub. My wife and I went in yesterday for a couple of drinks and side orders. The drinks were reasonably priced as were the side orders, unfortunately the side orders were in-edible and sent back. When they returned with "fresh" replacements they were as bad as the originals. Black onion rings and bread with cheap margarine and no garlic. After such a delight I entered the gents to have my breath taken away by the foul smell, it was obvious they had not been cleaned for a considerable time. IF I WERE YOU I'D GIVE IT A MISS!!!!

Airday jun 8 2014 unfortunately Next Door is closed but as we had drove to Albrighton we decided to eat at the Crown. The pub outside was particularly full due to the aircraft from nearby RAF Cosford. We both went inside to find the pub not to busy and it had a cool temperature (it was hot outside). The inside of the pub is well decorated and not in a state of disrepair. I ordered two of the Sunday carveries they cost 6.95 each with the option of a pudding for another 2 pounds. We both found a table easily and went to get the carvery. The chef was not in attendance I believe he was busy watching the airday, anyway he came back after about five minutes. The carvery whilst the chef was not in attendance was uncovered with the result that the local wildlife (flies) were having a feast on the turkey joint. The vegetables were not covered and so were busy drying out under the lights/heaters. I chose the beef because the flies did not appear to like it, I later found out why. The beef did look nice it was red in the middle. Some of the sauces were running low and no one appeared to be restocking them but there was plenty of gravy which had a nice consistency. My partner had the last knife and fork from the condiment/sauce table. I had to go and find an employee and walk after her as she seemed more interested in talking to another employee. I did ask where the knifes and forks were and was pointed to a cutlery canteen and told to yhelp myself. If I owned or ran the crown you must make sure there is enough cutlery available and if someone asks for some cutlery go and get it for them.Anyway the vegetables were okay but the beef was as tough as my old army boots with the result we could not eat it as it was very difficult to cut and very difficult to chew. Judging from the number of mature citizens in the pub I would have someone trained in the heimlich choking manoeuvre just in case they try to eat the beef. Will I go a gain to this pub, I guess its okay for a drink but I would avoid the food.

Awful Sunday lunch. Rubbery carrots, overcooked meats, big chunks of cabbage hearts, roast spuds out of a bag. Pigswill, to be frank, which if it cost a couple of quid you'd think fair enough but it costs a lot more than that - including a drink it's about £10 per head.Service can be said to be no more than adequate.

The pub's website promises “a warm welcome in our traditional surroundings” and to be fair the manager did say “Good evening” as we entered this large, chain pub on a Saturday evening. Unfortunately, things went downhill thereafter. The place was largely empty so we had no trouble getting a seat in one of the alcoves. My dining companion chose the fish and chips at £5.95 while I went for the larger version with added scampi and spiced prawns - 'Fisherman's Catch' - at £9.75.With some difficulty, the barmaid managed to break off chatting to a colleague long enough to take our order but then resumed her conversation (and dropped a bottle of wine) while pouring the drinks. The food arrived quickly but while the fish was good, my prawns were entombed in a strange, spiceless batter and both lots of chips were undercooked. I'm not a fan of being asked three or four times during a meal if everything is OK but no-one appeared until we'd finished. At this point the manager came up and began to wipe the table with a breathless “Waseverythingalrightwithyourmeal/doyouwantcoffeeordessert?”.We replied 'No' but said that the chips had been undercooked, receiving only a “Idoapologise” as he rushed off. Not my idea of a reasonable dining experience and if a chain pub can't get chips and elementary service right, there really is no hope for them.
