A very nice and friendly pub. Visited at the weekend with a group of fellow walkers and we were made to feel very welcome. I would have preferred a better choice of keg beers. There was only one on tap. That said, I will certainly return.

We underestimated the time our walk would take, so were quite late. I was concerned because there were 11 hungry people in our party (including 6 teenagers), and I was expecting to have provided an overly long walk, followed by no food. The Crown saved us. They made us feel really welcome, served great food, and within minutes we had all bedded in for the duration. Thanks to all at The Crown for saving my skin.

Sarah and her team did a brilliant job catering for our walking group of 25 ramblers. We'd placed an advanced food order a few days before which enabled the staff to be ready for us. We were all well fed and fuelled up for the 2nd half of our day walk. The food was delicious, service friendly and the pub itself has a charming character to it.

Olde worlde pub. Friendly service. Atmospheric low ceilings, walls covered in ‘funny sayings’… Food was prompt but unimaginative. I had the leg of lamb which as a bit overcooked with slightly limp boiled veg. A friend had the scampi and enjoyed it.

Lovely open fire. Querky decorating that keeps it interesting. It feels a bit like a locals only pub in that its not obvious where the menu is but by far the best value in Shoreham which is a beautiful village to visit with great walks. Food is decent not groundbreaking but you will get good value and generous portions.

Visited the Crown for Sunday lunch. Arrived about 220pm. Good selection of food on the blackboards. I had the roast beef which came with your shire pudding, vegetables and a gravy boat. My partner had the cheese and onion quiche plus chips and peas. Both good portions. I had a pint of the Harvey’s Sussex and then a large glass of Sauvignon Blanc. I then had the chocolate fudge cake with ice cream and my partner the apple pie and custard again good portion sizes. Very friendly staff and good quick service. Recommended.

Took a stroll with the wife through Shoreham the other day & went into this lovely pub for something to eat. Unfortunately, the food had finished, but the owner was such a lovely charming woman. We had pre-booked as part of a seniors group. We paid a deposit and was asked to order a few weeks beforehand from the menu we were sent. My husband and I ordered a nut roast Sunday lunch. Apparently, although we weren’t told, the nut roast wasn’t available but they would give us a vegetarian alternative. We were given a vegetable flan which consisted of courgettes, peppers and other veg in a tomato sauce. Not something I would have ordered if I had been aware. With chips? No served with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and vegetables - and gravy! Really not nice. When we questioned it, we were told it was the only vegetarian option that day. Apparently the roast beef dinners others had were not too good with the beef being rather tough. To add insult to injury, we tried to work out the costs from the website, to find the meals were about 50% higher than prices quoted on there. We had to pay £15 each for our horrible flan Sunday roast meal. Really not acceptable. We were told they can’t guarantee what is on the menu from day to day. So why ask for a pre-order? Such a shame as it is a lovely pub and they were very helpful and caring when one of our party was poorly. Please whoever us in charge at the Crown, sort your website out and try to have more consistency in your menu if you are going to ask for pre-orders.

Came here after looking at their website.....which we now know needs updating! We were looking forward to a turkey roast for £10, but there wasn't any poultry at all available, just beef, pork or lamb. And roast dinners were £17.50! One of us doesn't eat red meat, so that was a disappointment, and out of the other mains choices, there was only one suitable - scampi and chips for £15.00 (instead of the £9.00 on the website). Our meals were nice though, but average pub grub. Large glass of wine a bit on the pricey side too at £8.50. Be aware that parking may be an issue, even though there is a car park, but we were lucky to find a space in the narrow road as the car park was full. Don't know where we would have parked otherwise! Shoreham Village can get pretty busy! A nice pub, but I don't think we'll visit again.

Lovely little traditional pub. Not artificially modernised and sanitizer like so many. As such it has more character. The staff were delightfully friendly and whilst that meant service may have been a little less efficient, it felt relaxed rather than slow. The food was excellent and felt home made - in a good way! Unfortunately not a great experience for me, my wife, and a friend. We stopped here for a light lunch and drinks, on a walk. The young lady behind the bar served our drinks and was friendly. We then ordered our light lunch, Tuna Baguette, Sausage & Onion Baguette and a Fish finger sandwich on granary bread. The food came out, we were sitting in the garden, we got a Tuna sandwich on granary/brown bread, and fish finger sandwich on white bread. I called the lady back, and said the Tuna should have been in a Baguette, my friend then said to me dont worry. I said to the lady it should have been in a baguette but he said he will eat it. No comment from the member of staff, she went off and came back with my sausage and onion, in a granary/ brown sandwich!!. I asked did they not have any Baguettes, she said no they all got taken at the recent Duck race, which I believe was on the 5th May? No apology just walked off!! 10 minutes later, 3 or 4 people sat at a table opposite, they ordered, and guess what, the Ducks obviously returned the baguettes, as at least 2 of the party had sausage baguettes!! I can see from other reviews this is out of character from their experiences, but clearly our experience with the service today was pretty awful and embarrassing for the staff and manager when they read this. We didn't stay for a second drink, and left.

We'd pre-booked a table for two at 1 pm on Sunday 17th April. The service was by four young girls who were very polite but the resulting food was a huge let-down. Presumably, we received frozen Vegetables and Yorkshires that were burnt, rubbery and cooked to death. One of us had the Turkey Crown which was dry and had a peculiar taste and I had the Lamb which was okay but nothing spectacular. Ironically we were sat near a notice saying "If you're happy with the service then tell everyone, if not then let us know"! We informed two of the waitresses that we were unhappy with the food but there was no management response and we were charged the full amount. Needless to say that we will not be returning and as per the sign, we will be telling everyone.

We had a family gathering for Sunday Luncheon here. What can I say but one word….. AMAZING……! I have been involved in the food and hospitality industry for nearly 30 years and have eaten in places all over the world, I can say that it was the best Sunday Luncheon I have ever had! It was simple (forget the frills, drizzle of this, jus of that….. no pretension here) instead it was the home cooked food you never had so good! I had breaded Brie to start and that was tasty. My main was traditional roast beef (they even made sure to ask how I wanted it) and it came out perfect, not too thick sliced just right and succulent. Plenty of good fresh home cooked vegetables to go round. For pudding I had treacle sponge with custard (yes custard not some watery thing called crème anglaise!) I cannot fault the meal or value for money. I must also mention the whole family (from the daughter taking my booking, to mum, dad and son looking after us). I must also mention Naimh and her twin sisters who gave us service with a smile and looked after our every needs with quickness and efficiency (even though the place was really busy busy). They even managed to put up with my humour!!!!! In honesty I can say I have found a little bolt hole in a beautiful spot that I will use regularly when in the area or passing through…! In a way I want to keep it to myself but that would be unfair, so my advice is if you are in that area seek out the Crown and you will love it as much as myself and my family did.

Shhhhhh... Don't tell everyone, but every Friday evening this cute cafe turns into a wine bar with the best grown-up cocktails in town and a pretty decent wine menu too. Went on Friday and was very poor ( I said before I wouldn’t go again & wish I hadn’t ). No poached eggs as they were “too busy” & can you believe they’d run out of bread by 2 o’clock? How about you send someone to Waitrose to restock ? Definitely my last visit. Will go to Gail’s or one of the other places . This is a cafe without a toilet that charges top notch prices and doesn’t offer the food or service to match .
