I thought I would try this pub one more time seeing as it's the only one in the village yet again the nasty individual thatworks/runs this sespit was at it again. This time it was a lone man. Absolute disgusting behaviour. Why is the brewery employing someone who knows nothing about hospitality or village live. Time to boycott till the brewery steps in.

Seamed a nice pub, not a lot of people in there, but there was a female who appeared to be very rude to some people and nice to others, who then started shouting at someone who was sat drinking in the corner with some others for no apparent reason, from what she was saying she might have been the owner, either way it was embarrassing and she was really nasty , wont be going there again.

We popped in for lunch on our way home. Nice food, friendly staff, decent pub. Does exactly what it says on the tin. Would recommend.

Had Sunday lunch here that was good and the football was on the telly so you can't go wrong. Bar staff quick and efficient 👍

Visited to watch the football. Had some nibbles which were lovely. Good sized pub with darts and pool as well. My team won also which finished off a top day and night.

Just passing by and called in to the pub for breakfast on a Sunday morning (11am). Ordered an English breakfast at the bar, and sat outside. Apparently the pub kitchen is closed these days and the food is served by Falafel Bakfar - a separate business which operates on the same site - not that it mattered to me. The food was great, as was the service and I felt welcome. Good value, too.

Why does this pub never improve?!? Why can't the brewery focus on the basics, serve good beer and proper pub grub with welcoming staff? But no, they now run a kebab-type shop from a wooden shed (when they used to have a fully functioning kitchen in the pub), the beer was served lukewarm with a head on it (it is supposed to be served at cellar temperature) by an unwelcoming man behind the bar, and now a "farm shop" from an outbuilding when there is a good farm shop already in the village. I have no idea how this pub keeps going when apparently all the local villagers are forced to go to properly run pubs in the surrounding villages to have a decent pint and bite to eat. Keep it simple and focus on the basics!

Bad decor. Awful food. Bad selection of beers. Tried this for a second time to see if anything had improved. It hadn't. Last time I was at the cross tree was for a former landlady's funeral wake. One of the bar staff started a fight. Keep clear of this god foresaken dump.

Very unwelcoming only village pub i have experienced that in. Funny looks by locals. Also quite run down. Not the best selection of lagers either

The bars are quite austere but it is still the only pub in the Village so being critical is somewhat self destructive. Bar meals are very good - and the right prices - try the ham and eggs - best in the area. You get what you pay for - I think Glynis does a great job - wish her pub was in my Village.

This is the only pub in the village of Byfield, which is a pity since it's a blot on an otherwise very attractive place. It has terrible decor (lighting too bright and a miserable carpet) in the 'lounge' area. In the main bar, there's an ugly Sky Sports screen, industrial looking seats and unattractive slot machines. It's a pity that the pub chain (Marstons) doesn't do something to improve it. It could be done quite simply - overhaul the decor to make it more tasteful and traditional as well as upscale the food and drink.

Our daughter- in- law booked a table for eight people on Mothers Day lunch. The roast menu varied from beef, turkey and ham with a variety of vegetables all well cooked and greatly presented in enormous portions. The beer and drinks are well kept and everything is reasonably priced. Everyone enjoyed the experience especially the mothers whom each were presented with a bunch of flowers from the landlady, "what a lovely gesture" especially on Mothers day. This village pub may look basic in appearance especially on the outside, but it has a clean and a friendly atmosphere once inside and used a lot by the village locals." Never judge a book by its cover " is often said. Well worth a try:

Poor atmosphere, mediocre food. More like a town pub than a village inn. The locals are not very welcoming towards people passing through. Will not be returning. Needs a major overhaul.

We had a fantastic meal at The Cross Tree Pub in the quaint village of Byfield. The pub has a very laid back atmosphere and a fairly good selection of drinks. The pub has a great selection of meals with large portions and very tasty food. In addition the food was very reasonable priced.

We stopped in to the Cross Tree as we were on our way through Byfield. We find the pub to be unassuming once we got in, and the menu was much the same. We got a very warm welcome from the waitress who had a bit of a joke with us about their unpretentious food: "Would you like peas with that, Sir?" "What's the alternative?" "Without peas." The service was excellent, including a spotless high chair (which isn't always the case!) The ale is kept very well indeed. We were warned that that the portions were generous, but we didn't believe it until we our food arrived! In short: fantastic value for money, generous portions, good beer, a warm welcome, and tasty, unpretentious food in a classic village pub.

Always a warm welcome serving good beer and generous portions of home cooked food. Pool, darts & sports shown on a big screen. Occasionally they have live music, mainly in the summer months. A favourite place anglers wanting a hot breakfast before going on to fish at Boddington Resevoir, must be booked in advance though.

We have visited this pub over many years - probably twelve or more - and have received outstanding service every time we have visited. The tender steaks are highly recommended, and at half the price you might be charged at a restaurant. Visit their Carols Day on 28th December every year - a splendid break in the holiday season singing carols from a bygone pre-Victorian era!

We were a party of 7 for Sunday night supper and the ladies serving us were very friendly and helpful. We all had a different meal and mine was Scampi with 1/2 portion of salad and chips. Also had Spotty Dick and custard - which i had not had for about 40 years and the whole meal was excellent. It was lovely having the place to ourselves as we were quite rowdy.

It is a country pub located in this Northamptonshire village (Byfield) along the A361; that is why my wife and I discovered it only by accident. We were looking for a place to stop for dinner and picked this pub. It was definitely a good pick. Since then we stopped at this place once more and we were just as happy as the first time.

We booked for 7.30pm for 4 including our two guests. We shared two starters which were both very good. Of our four main dishes, one was mediocre and for the other we asked for the dip to be on the side only. It wasn't and the dish was rejected. It returned quickly, which made me wonder how it could have been recooked. Neither of the two waiters checked if it was OK. There were no specials which I like to choose from and the massala fries only had a sprinkling of salt and pepper. We were given dessert menus but the waiter did not return for the order. We had to come to the bar for the bill. On leaving, we noticed the waiters were busy cleaning another room. It's unlikely we will return, particularly with guests. If you needed us to leave at a certain time, you could have advised us when we booked on the phone. Meal with 2 alcoholic and 2 soft drinks £107 plus service. NB This is the response we gave to an email requesting feedback. We had a reply saying it would be investigated and we will receive a response but nothing.

We had a really lovely B&B stay here. The rooms are in a separate building to the pub - so nice and quiet. Super comfy beds and cosy bed linen. The breakfast was fantastic - a perfect old school English Breakfast - with butchers sausages and black pudding, eggs cooked how you like them, hash browns, tomatoes..... Yummy. The staff made us feel very welcome and we were well looked after. They were particularly kind to our children - sorting them out with Hot Chocolates and unusual breakfast requirements. They even went to the trouble of posting home some much loved cuddly toys that had been left behind. Thank you Billy and Team.

Phoned ahead to make sure that the pub was wheelchair accessible, and could also accommodate a mobility scooter. Was assured on the phone that the pub was accessible with a ramp at the rear of the pub. On arrival we found that the accessible entrance wasn't as it first appeared. The ramp was fine, but the the actual entrance into the pub had what can only be described as a metal bar at the bottom of the doorframe in the entrance. This was to high for my electric wheelchair to safely drive over without causing damage to the chair. Equally the mobility scooter would have the same problem. The two members of staff that happened to be outside at the time were very blasé about the issue. Is the purple pound not good enough for this establishment? Such a shame, because it actually looked like a nice pub! Yet again, another business that has an archaic attitude towards disabled customers.
