Tried this newly reopened pub and found it to be pleasantly refurbished, the new owner and the staff were very welcoming. We tried 3 starters on their currently limited menu which were all delicious. Perfectly cooked, well presented and very tasty. I can honestly say the salt and pepper squid is one of the best I have ever tasted. We can't wait to try out their full menu once it is in place. Lovely atmosphere and highly recommended.

Recently moved to the area, and this nice little pub is my local. Extremely friendly staff and customers. At present is only open on Friday evenings and Sunday lunchtime, hoping that will be expanded and food being offered. Good Co-Vid procedures in place, good selection of Gins, reasonable prices, premium Lager/IPA on draught would be a welcomed addition.

Regular customers will notice the increase in prices. No longer good value for money. It's a shame that they are trying to claw back lost revenue from loyal customers.

Five of our family came for lunch today, the staff give you a warm and friendly welcome, we all chose a selection of roast available we chose beef and the turkey, there are wide variety of food choices available either on the main menu or the specials board, then we all fitted in pudd, the food is well presented and good size portions, also very tasty and home cooked, they keep it spotlessly clean, with lovely atmosphere,

Friends have taken us to this restaurant a coupkle of times now. On both occasions the staff were welcoming and friendly, the restaurant was clean and tidy with a wonderful jug collection hanging from the beams. The food was very tasty and well prepared, the vegetarian filo pie was gorgeous. If anything, the helpings are over-generous but exceptionally good value. We will be back.

My wife and I enjoyed an enjoyable lunch at the Cross Inn. The menu contained a pleasing variety of dishes, including some daily specials. My wife enjoyed a very generous stilton cheese ploughmans. I had an excellent jacket potato (often my choice for lunch) accompanied by a well-presented salad. We were invited to have a dessert (again the choice was broad), but we were had had sufficient. The restaurant was clean, including both the ladies' and gentlemen's toilets, the service was friendly, the staff welcoming. This is a restaurant we usually visit when we are in the Manningtree area, and we shall continue to do so. One small niggle was that the pot of tea we requested was not as hot as I should have liked. However, when I asked for our pot to be refilled, this was done without additional charge.

Shamed to say have lived just down the road for 9 years and this is our 1st visit and we have really been missing out. Made a last minute booking for Sunday lunch and was not disappointed. A friendly welcome at the bar and then shown to our table.Well prepared Carvery of very good quality, together with good portions of meat. Had to make room for a dessert again a well presented good sized portion. Shame the Chef was was very reserved, although efficient at what he did and that the crumble had sold out. Otherwise it would have been a perfect 5

Husband and I decided to go for lunch as have done many times. Noticed upon entering and looking at the menu board how prices have risen since our last visit in May. I ordered the catch of the day Cod and Chips.. Well it certainly was not caught that day it was not pure white and the batter was hard on the fish as if been left too long in the fryer. Frozen Chips and peas. Have had much better fish there in the past and much bigger. Do they think customers do not notice? Husband had Shepherds pie said it was okay. But did not rave about it. Nobody came and asked if everything was alright with our meals. You feel taken for granted as a customer, Well we will not be going back there again to eat. One serving behind the bar busy chewing on a sweet mouth wide open. The other server long hair every where flying about just not on when taking peoples food to the table. What ever happened to standards? Said to husband Fish and Chips at the Pier Hotel in Harwich is £15.00 which is £3.50 dearer than here at Horsley Cross. But you get snow white fish fresh chips not frozen and it is always first class in quality. Noticed here also their all day breakfast is now priced £9.95 we go to Harrys Bar in Frinton and the same size breakfast is £8.50 Who sets their prices?

Been here quite a few times now. On one visit husband had the steak and said how lovely it was so thought would try it. Both ordered the steak took ages for the food to arrive. The steak was chewy the frozen chips had been overcooked, Mushrooms fine .Peas fine, Onion rings fine. Nobody came and asked if all was okay. Then realised they had a private function going on in their back room. Seen it so often when a private party is anywhere they seem to take priority no doubt for the tips they leave. The food was eatable but not enjoyable. The steak had no flavour at all for Sirloin. Surely the chef knew he had overcooked the chips so why send them out like that? One thing for sure will not ever order steak there again. Perhaps needed extra staff to cope but they seem reluctant to employ extras so food gets overcooked and regular patrons suffer.

Have been here a few times now. Last time had a prawn cocktail. Would have been nice if it had been served with the correct lettuce an iceberg and not the limp leaves they served my prawn cocktail with. Shame little things like this let down an otherwise nice starter. So a crisp iceberg please. Also can you get the very nice young lady with hair down to her waist to tie it back working around food like she does. Surely with health and safety courses now the manager here should know better and tell her about it. I noticed as she leant across the table to put a customers meal down her hair was swinging around, Sorry it is just not hygienic .Also could do with a proper coffee maker like the coffee shops have. The coffee from the machine you have was awful.

Came here for a pre-Christmas lunch with the family. My sister & brother in law have passed many times & it's always looked busy & popular, so we thought we'd give it a try. Really pleased we did: a warm & friendly welcome, a great choice of menu & good service. Baked camembert looked spot on, my beetroot, red onion & stilton tart was a perfect starter. My brother in law can be quite specific in what he likes & his prawn starter was soon cleared so it must have been good! Main courses weren't a let down either: steak & kidney pie was home made & veggies cooked perfectly. My sister had chicken goujons which were also home made & looked delicious. No space in our bellies for desert, but they all sounded appealing. There was a Christmas pud listed & it was so refreshing to see a note on the menu letting people know it's not home made - it would be so easy for the team here to pass the pud off as theirs, so I applaud their honesty. Will definitely be back & it's great to have somewhere we can spend quality time together whilst also being able to enjoy good food.

we were driving home from a wedding and found ourselves to be very hungry, we crossed a roundabout and saw this little pub, we were unsure as to whether to go in, but there were 7 other cars in the car park, a good sign we thought. when we got in we discovered that there was a birthday meal just finishing, so most if not all the cars belonged to that one party. we sat down, a lovely waitress gave us a menu and took our drinks order. when she bought the drinks she politely took our order and we began to chat to her, she was so very friendly and very lovely. the food arrived and it was all home cooked, a big bowl of vegetables that we thought were to share, but when my husbands meal arrived it had veg on it, they were all for me apparently. i had a grilled skate wing in parsley butter that was melt in the mouth exquisite, my husband had home made turkey pie, and his too was lovely. in fact the meal was so nice that although we were already full really we knew we wanted to try the desserts, for fear of missing out..the bread and butter pudding was without doubt the best i have ever tasted (sorry mum)...if i am in this area again i won't hesitate to go in. thank you..

Chips well all I can say about these they were worse chips iv ever tasted. Tasted like fish clearly cooked in old oil. Staff not once asked how are meal was and were very rude when I asked about oil chips were cooked in. It showed a lovely range of traditional fayre with specials on blackboards as well We chose not to have starters ,although there was a lovely range, we went straight to the main course , I ordered ham egg and chips whilst mum plumped for the all day breakfast .My ham was lovely fresh but hers ham off the bone with lovely fresh chips and a crispy round the edge fried egg .Can't go wrong and it was superb.Mums breakfast looked lovely on arrival and it contained , 2 sausages, 2 slices of bacon , a slice of fried bread, grilled mushrooms , 2 half's of grilled tomato and an egg all perfectly cooked , freshly cooked to order and presented beautifully !Over all I would recommend the cross to everyone it was lovely food with very friendly staff in a great location with a large car park. Being glared out and constant little comments from staff. consequently making us feel unwelcome & want to leave! The food was bland and not worth the money.. Definitely won't be returning!

The food at this pub is always consistently good. Philip and Mum Eileen are excellent hosts and very helpful. Their staff are also very attentive and quick. Their Chef is exceedingly good. My husband and I try to visit at least twice weekly.

My partner and I took my mum out for Sunday lunch in the car very. You need to book in advance as it is not big and is very popularThe roast beef was cooked just how I like it, on the medium side rather than rare. The turkey was moist and succulent and there was a good variety of vegetables. Gravy and all the other bits and pieces were readily available of course The desserts were simply devineThe total bill was a pleasant surprise as wellSo to sum it up hot food well cooked, divine desserts and all at an amazingly good price. I can highly recommend it for Sunday lunch

The car park is often full...especially on Sunday lunch time which should be a good sign.I have rated 3 which I think may be generous. To me it felt like a step back 20 years or more in terms of atmosphere and food. Slightly overpriced for what it is. All in all disspoonting.

My partner treated my mother and I for my birthday lunch. My partner booked a table, which is not easy on a Monday because a lot of pubs are closed on Mondays. We had a nice seat next to the radiator which was great for my elderly mum who is always cold!I had rump steak, chips mushrooms, onion rings, and grilled tomatoes and peas. Very nice and the steak was medium to rare and cooked to perfection.Mum had skate wing and vegetables which was a real treat and she ate it all.My partner had home made steak and kidney pie with lots of fresh veg's also a lovely meal.Mum and I had a chocolate nut sundae which was delicious and peter had home made apple pie and cream. The service was first class, and we would strongly recommend The Cross Inn to other people.

This may not be for everyone, but it's a traditional English country pub, and it doesn't pretend to be anything other than that. The menu reflects this - fish and chips / pie and chips / burger etc.....Had a lovely meal here, very well cooked, tasty, just good old british fayre! This place is completely honest, and if you're looking for an old English pub with nice traditional food, you're in the right place. If you're looking for something more trendy, go the extra couple of miles to the Brantham Bull.

I've been to many immaculate, trendy pubs where I have refused to pay for appalling food. My wife and I stumbled across this pub whilst making a first time visit to the area. We took a chance and hesitated once in the door because, yes, it is a bit jaded. However we are glad we decided to stay and we ordered lunch. My grilled plaice was superb. It was beautifully cooked, very fresh indeed and even served on a hot plate. My wife had the scampi which were "proper job" whole tail scampi - very tasty. So was the coffee we had. For the level of quality the prices were justified but don't expect a cheap meal. This goes on my 'favourites' list.

This was a real retro experience- in the worst way; walked in to a musty smell and tired decor; Sunday roast : over cooked beef and vegetables cooked until flavourless; long wait for food. Having said that, the staff were friendly and efficient and the restaurant was full on a Sunday lunchtime; so good luck, but not for me.

We have been eating in this pub restaurant for about 7 years, the food is always Excellent and you get a good healthy portion of vegetables! Today we went at lunch time, hubby had Roasted Pork Belly with roast pots, plenty of gravy, cabbage, broccoli and carrots, I had the 'roast of the day' which was chicken with the same vegetables, yorkshire and stuffing, Lovely! If there had been any room left in either of our stomachs, hubby would have had apple crumble and I would have gone for the double chocolate cheesecake, alas we couldnt even contemplate it! If you are passing, live near, I highly reccomend you drop in, you won't be dissapointed.

We were expecting a 15th century pub loaded with atmosphere but the reality was a tired looking room with many of the black beams appearing to be modern day black painted wood.We ordered garlic cheese bread to start. Two small slices for £3.50 seemed overpriced but they tasted quite good. However the hamburgers at £10.50 each left a lot to be desired. A few pieces of lettuce and slithers of onion on dry rolls topped with a dry, overcooked mince patty. When dressing was requested for the side salad we were brought a very small bowl of mayonnaise. The chips were quite good. The red house merlot was not a good choice. It was a Saturday night and the pub was full so others must find the food to their taste but we certainly won't be making a second visit.

I visited this gem of a cafe on the quiet end of Clacton seafront for breakfast this morning and I will definitely be back. Located right overlooking a beautiful beach this family run cafe deserves every one of the five stars I have given it. Spotlessly clean, with welcoming courteous staff and great all day menu of breakfasts and traditional family cafe meals. What more can you ask for? Good value and quality products and yes you’ll get them too! Popular with locals and visitors to the area alike a lot to enjoy about the Greensward Cafe!! Oh and it has a great crazy golf to enjoy as well, perhaps when the weather is a bit better! An absolute credit to the proprietor and team - visit and enjoy a real seaside treat !!!
