A charming historic pub great for a drink as been in here before for that purpose However went today for food. After waiting over an hour for food and asked what was happening we were told the tills were down and they needed to check our order. The staff member was very pleasant and apologetic but had we not queried I wonder whether we were would still be waiting there. A further 15 minutes later we checked a further 10 minutes later it arrived. Had we been told earlier there was an issue it would have been more stars, but just being left waiting is poor. It was obvious a difficult situation for the team but it didn’t seem to be being managed by anybody and it was chaotic. Had it been communicated earlier it would have been far better.

Ancient pub with lots of quirky regulars (most of whom seem to be English bulldog lovers too), tad posh and conservative, but worth a pint. Or two. Or three. Did not try the food

We love Sunday Lunch at the Cricketers and prefer a table in the courtyard side area. We last went Sunday 8th December. I particularly like the Roast Pork while my other half goes for Ckicken or Turkey. The vegetables are excellent and we usually have a side order of cauliflower cheese. Yummy. (Never have room for desert.)

I booked the Greene Room above the pub for my husband's 70th birthday party. The planning was excellent; both managers had meetings with me and showed me around in advance of the event, and were most helpful, which put my mind at rest. They had a very positive 'can do' attitude. The venue itself is cheerful and cosy, with plenty of space, a well-stocked bar, and beautifully decorated for Christmas. They also allow your own decorations to be put in place, if you wish. I ordered a buffet of mainly vegetarian dishes, which was of very good quality. I had also ordered champagne, and this was an outstanding Laurent Perrier - most appreciated by all! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Cricketers for a private function for anything between about 20-60 people (there is an extra adjoining room if it is required for a larger number of guests). A great pub - downstairs, the main bar has bags of character!

We only had a couple pints here. It’s supposed to be the oldest pub in Brighton or one of the oldest so maybe it attracts a lot of non Brighton residents on that alone. We were attacked by 3 construction workers who were drinking heavily and never shut off by the staff so “over serving” drunk people must be a thing here. If you don’t want to be “hate crimed” in Brighton then go to one of the other pubs because the lowest denominator of British society goes here.

Went yesterday with our little dog.It was too hot outside as the tables with brollies were taken, so we moved into the court yard, which was perfect as the doors were open, and it was cool and airy . I had a cheese burger with fries, and my partner had pork skewer starter with teriyaki sauce and mini hash browns a lager and a couple of glasess of wine .It was all delicious and will definitely go back . One small point is that they're a bit frugal with their mayonnaise and tomato sauces that come in tiny pots . But we still had really lovely lunch, and it's such a pretty pub .

Didn't have food so can't judge. Lovely bar and atmosphere. Drinks a little pricey however, a good glass of vino I'd always going to cost more! The reason for my lower score was based on the ladies toilets. There was no toilet roll in either and I had to get the dregs out of the bottle of soap to wash my hands. Service was a bit meh, stood to wait by the bar then another older man came in after and got served before us. I guess we all live in a man's world. This feels and looks like a traditional English pub. If this is what you want to experience, it is well worth visiting. Nice pub, good atmosphere, but watch out for how much you pay for drinks, we were charged differently for the same round of drinks e.g. one round cost £11.70 (single raspberry vodka with Diet Coke & 1 pint Amstel) 2nd round £10.25 (for a double raspberry vodka & Diet Coke & 1 pint Amstel), the 3rd round (same drinks as the 2nd round) £18+. Pubs should have prices displayed (like they used to), so patrons know what they should be paying. The last round I queried it & they tried to advise me they undercharged on the 2nd round. How am I meant to know what price I should be charged 🤷♂️

Really poor from this place. We went to Brighton for the day with our dog and bay daughter. Googled dog friendly pubs for lunch, found The Cricketers, we called to check availability as it said no same day booking on their website, we were told there was loads of space and to head down (about 1 mile away, walking). On arrival we asked if we could have lunch we were told to find ourselves a table that didn't have reserved on it. We managed to find one table at the back with an empty pint glass and no sign saying reserved. Just as we're were about to sit down we were told it is actually reserved and we couldn't sit there. No offer of help was made we're were just left standing there with out dog and baby in the middle of other groups eating, pretty embarrassing and frustrating to be frank. We just walked out in the end as no one offered us any sort of help or other option. Why tell us to head over, find a table with no reservation notice and then tell us we can't use it and leave us stood there like idiots. Pretty muggy way to treat people.
