We had an anniversary party here on a Saturday evening. Amazing service, food and event. Sophie helped us so much with arranging it beforehand, menu, decorating, DJ, cake. Lorna and staff on the night were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. 36 for a meal, bespoke menu, impeccable timing and service, tasty, hearty food. See photos - onion bhaji, oxtail arancini, herb crusted salmon, beef shin and ale pie and Cricket burger - proper tasty! Bar staff excellent too, great selection of Thornbridge and guest beers. Would highly recommend for an event or just a nice beer and meal. Thank you the Cricket Inn!

We visited two years ago and had a lovely Sunday roast - came back this weekend and had a dining experience that seemed like it came straight out of Kitchen Nightmares. Ordered a salt and pepper squid (Rubbery and stringy), oxtail arancini (stone cold inside), mussels (they kept miscounting how much they had to serve, went from full course to small plate to none available), fish pie with buttery cheddar mash (no butter or cheddar in the mash), and a pork belly (as tough as shoe leather). Waited ages between courses. Not a single grain of salt or pepper used in the making of the food it seemed, and we even heard a fellow diner in the table next to us mention that they suspected their cream sauce was off. We were given a reduced bill when we mentioned it was not a good experience, but still had to sit in the car park and eat a Haribo for some flavour in the end.

We have been to the Cricket Inn three times now and every time the food is delicious. The menu is always great and the quality of the food they serve is exceptional. We ate here last night and everything we ordered was fantastic! The fig and plum pudding was our highlight. My husband said it was the best pudding he has had in a long time! (And we eat out quite a lot!!) I urge you to eat here, you won't be disappointed!!

Country pub, beautiful old building opposite cricket field surrounded by gorgeous landscape. Impeccable service, drinks brought to table, food arrived very quickly. Lunch menu for me. The fish finger ‘sandwich’ was in fact as large as a full meal and being served with chips was easily more than enough. Delicious too and good value at £11. We went on a fairly quiet mid week lunchtime but I imagine that on a summer evening or weekend this place would be amazing. I wish I lived in Totley!

We've been going here in its various guises since we moved to Dore 25 years ago. I've left a number of reviews some 1 or 2 star, some 4 or 5 star. I was seriously impressed this evening. The menu has been updated big time and whilst it retains its most popular classic dishes, it has introduced some seriously interesting vegan and vegetarian dishes most of which can be ordered in starter or main course sizes. The aubergine snitzle and cauliflower rice dishes were particular standout options. Fish and steak were beautiful. Location is unrivalled. This is a big and very popular pub. It gets busy so be prepared to wait. It is very dog and child friendly throughout. If you don't like that don't go. They add 10% service charge which is very clearly stated on the menus and highlighted on the bill. It is equally clear this is optional and no pressure at all made to reduce or remove it. Personally this evening I was happy to improve it a little in recognition of the lovely service we received (thank you Lauren and team) and being confident that it goes directly to the hard working staff. Having ridden some of the lows at this place I'm really hoping it's found a new lease of life and will be back soon (next week as it happens). Credit where it's due - thank you and keep it up!

Told her the name booking and she walked away without a word then stopped at a table and looked back at us as if to say “well??”. No thank you when we left. Taking it’s name from the Cricket Pitch that it overlooks, this stunning pub provides local and seasonal food and a selection of Thornbridge beers and a warm welcome of course. They welcome muddy boots, kids and dogs – the pub is popular with local walkers and cyclists after enjoying the surrounding countryside (a fan of a walk and a pint myself!). Their a la carte menu runs Monday to Saturday, subject to change with the seasons, and they have popular roasts on a Sunday. And on Tuesdays they offer… PIE TUESDAYS! We were warmly welcomed and showed to our table in the beautiful dining area which had subtle autumnal décor and felt cosy. The food we enjoyed was beautiful and well worth the 40 minutes drive for us. The Pie menu is concise offering a meat, fish or vegetable pie each coming with potatoes, and half a pint of a Thornbridge beer. There is a small selection of vegetables you can add at an extra cost also. The full menu is still available Tuesdays, but we just decided to go all in and stick to the pies. We enjoyed; Beef Shin & Potato Thornbridge Ale Pie with roast potatoes – proper chunks of juicy beef, a rich casing of pastry and lots of gravy. The roasties were crispy too – a really good dish and filling as it is. Fisherman’s Pie with salmon, haddock, tuna, monkfish, cod, cheddar mash & buttered greens – so many chunks of tasty fish, the mash was gorgeous and smooth and the greens were paired well with the dish so it wasn’t too rich. Halves of Jaipur – one of our favourites Thornbridge beers. Side of Roast Mushrooms & Carrots – a nice addition and my only feedback is that we thought for one carrot and one flat cap mushroom, the price didn’t reflect the side dish well compared to how generously priced the deal was. Everything we ate was delicious and it was clear that quality ingredients were used and that the food is made with passion here. The selection of pie flavours is fairly limited. Understandably the chef wants to focus on the quality of deliverance by keeping this concise, however I hope the flavour selection expands over time should Pie Tuesdays be a hit, which we feel it will! A great meal and evening here.

I’m recently dairy free and find it hard to find places which can accommodate and this place excelled. Not only did the chef mark which dishes could be adapted, the substitutions (chive oil over butter etc) were amazing and well thought through. There are several small cosy rooms with open fires to just have a drink or enjoy a meal. Plus a large dining room which is still relaxed and friendly but nice enough to dress up should you like to. The whole place is dog friendly and muddy boots are expected as they border onto Derbyshire and its many walks. We were seated in the dining room and were served by friendly knowledgeable staff. Rude staff went in for a bottle of wine on Sunday walked in there was 3 members of staff not one said hello and one lad gave a dirty look so not a great start. We went to the bar to order a bottle of wine and were not greeted by the barman who looked wholly uninterested. When I asked for a wine list he said “there should be one on the table” we did not have a table, he then went and go one and slid it in front of me wordlessly. We ordered and paid with only the words “two glasses?” From the barman, there had been no hello thank you or anything. Wine was nice but very pricey for what it was. We used to visit a lot and always found both the service and food to be good. Sadly neither is true anymore. The restaurant was cold and the whole venue less than a quarter full, with staff stood around chatting because there wasn’t much for them to do. Despite this our group had to walk to the bar in the other room three times to get service. We ordered a set menu. All of the six main meals were average. Two of the roast dinners were served with pale sausages and cold roast potatoes. Each of us left food and it wasn’t because we were full. We waited 30 minutes for dessert, again having to walk around to find a member of staff to serve us. The kitchen had forgot to prepare our food. We were offered a faster serving but our patience had run out by this point. The bill had a service charge added even though one course was missing, we literally had to walk around the restaurant multiple times to get service, and we’d complained about food being poor. Eventually we received a significant reduction on the bill. I wouldn’t go back — it’s fallen a long way from what it used to be.

We visited The Cricket Inn in December 2023 and had a lovely Turkey Christmas Lunch. Service, in an almost empty restaurant, was slow however. Today, 12th Jan 2024, we returned for a second time for lunch. They have a “Two courses for £20, three for £25” offer on at the moment and we also had a mystery discount envelope from our December visit. I chose a main and dessert, my wife chose a starter and main. When the owner/manager took our order, I specifically asked him about the offer (which applied to starred items on the menu) as my choices were on the reverse side of the menu. The food was good but the service again very slow. 45 mins after placing our order we had only had my wife’s starter and were both waiting for our mains. As before, the restaurant wasn’t busy - there were three other occupied tables with, perhaps another six diners (so eight people in the restaurant in total). Two things spoilt the visit. Firstly, our final bill (which we checked after getting home) was incorrect - we have been overcharged. Secondly, when we asked that the “optional” (but automatically included) 10% service charge be removed, we were challenged as to why. “Was the food okay?” we were asked. “Yes”. “Was the service okay?” “Our food was a bit slow coming out.” You might expect at this point an apology at the very least, but no, simply the response that he’d check the timings in the kitchen. So, would we recommend The Cricket Inn in Totley? No, not really. Food is good but service is slow and I really dislike the automatic inclusion of a 10% service charge - especially since the menu clearly states that this is optional. Finally, I really have an issue with being challenged as to my reason for asking for this charge to be removed. I wonder what his response would have been if we’d said that both the food and service were fine but we’d still like the optional charge removed. Would he have argued the toss? In summary, will we be returning to endure slow service, being overcharged and argue about an optional service charge? Not anytime soon.

Front of house welcoming unfortunately the bar worker seemingly didn’t want to be there and could work on their customer service. Three of us went for Sunday lunch. We ordered one beer which arrived cloudy and was replaced after complaining and the barrel having been been changed. My companions had the beef and were satisfied with it although we could have done with more gravy and the parsnips were undercooked. The pork was dreadful. It was tough and the ‘ crackling’ was flabby and not crisp. Not a disaster but very average and at top prices. I am sure there are better places for a Sunday lunch.

One of our favourite places after the restrictions of recent years. Our most recent visit was a disappointment however. The service was excellent as usual. I chose the scallops to start to find that it was one scallop cut into three slices. The ribeye steak was ordered by two of our guests who asked for it to be cooked medium rare. One of the steaks came rare and obviously hadn’t been rested before service. We chose not to return it as we all wanted to eat together.

Had a wonderful dinner date. Fried calamari was amazing. Fettuccine was fresh and delicious. Steak wasn't the best quality but was OK. It was a wonderful place outside the restaurant as well with plenty of parking, vegetable garden. Overall, it was a wonderful evening

Frequenter for drinks, lovely spot on sunny days. Winter days couple of nice fires too! Went for sunday lunch, beef was delicious as was the veg and cauliflower cheese. Lovely meal! Do think that they should think about the optional 10% service charge however. I don't mind tipping 10% at times but most people do wish to be more their choice, I can see it rubbing it customers the wrong way at times. Other than that great as always.

Stopped by for a drink and a look at the menu. Not for us I'm afraid as menu was top price and limited in choice. We can get much better value for money these days at half the price. Definitely a select destination for the Totley set.

On our wooden platter came : 1 small carrot ( halved ) 2 stale small non roasted potatoes 2 small stale parsnips Bowl of tasty greens 1 undercooked insipid non roasted grey looking chicken Tiny gravy boat . Food sent back as chicken was not remotely cooked and looked terrible. Explained concerns to staff , Paid for drinks and left What a total disappointment

What a little hidden gem we found, firstly the staff are amazing, friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere of the clearly dog friendly environment was great for us and our dog. When seeing the menu we wanted to have It all. We asked the manager Josh for his recommendation on food and wine and boy he hit It out of the park. The lamb belly was absolutely delicious and the pie also it’s nice to see a proper full pastry pie on a menu. We were too full for dessert but next time we will save some room for one as they looked and sound great. Thank you too all the staff for such an amazing meal.

This is my first ever review and it’s not going to be a good one. Where to start? I have been a frequent visitor to the Cricket over many years but have recently been put off by the prices and the 10% automatic service charge. However one of my friends has never been so I booked. On entering the man at the desk, who I assume is the manager, completely ignored us for a very long time whist he finger jabbed the touch screen. Eventually he finished, turned to me and chastised me for what he assumed was a derogatory comment he had overheard about our taxi driver, who by the way was very obliging and very funny. Not your usual taxi driver at all. He got a big tip. So no welcome to the Cricket or have you made a booking etc, just a personal insult. Having been wound up by his ignorance and bad manners at ignoring us I have to admit I did not react well to his assumption that he had the right to pass an option on what was a private conversation, especially as he had no idea of the prior conversation we had with the driver or the context in which my comments were made. He did state that one of reasons for his ignoring us was because they were busy. The empty tables told another story. Anyway he called us old farts and we left. Apparently he feels it’s OK to be rude and prejudiced against people of my age. Whoever is currently in charge of recruitment needs to look very carefully at their vetting procedure I would suggest. At this stage I was going to say that of course they will survive and prosper without my business and that of my family and friends but after viewing their filed company accounts I’m not too sure. We were made very welcome at The Crown.

We had hoped to have something to eat at the Cricket Inn at Totley today having not been for about four years we were really looking forward to it as last time we went it was amazing but unfortunately this time the staff were non plussed we said we hadn’t booked and they sat us right near the kitchen door (busy) which is ok we understood as we hadn’t booked. We looked through the menu which was so affected & pretentious in its language it was farcical to be honest & the prices were ridiculous . The ladies toilet door was literally sticky!! & the toilet was absolutely minging!!toilet paper on the floor no ventilation so stank of urine nothing cleaned clearly no one had even bothered to check it, so we didn’t stop & not going again. This pub used to be fantastic with attentive staff with a proper welcome & a really amazing menu at good prices but after today’s experience im just thinking its just resting on its laurels! The whole place needs a facelift the outside was a disgrace & the building, it’s really gone downhill & is shabby. The owners need to get themselves to Cheshire and look at similar priced places, we just can’t believe people even go there at those prices and that sort of antiqued service and ambience.

Went in for the first time in a few years as we always used to go for special occasions. Feel like its really gone backwards. Service was good but i was really disappointed with the food. There was nothing obviously vegan on the menu and the only main course they could offer was a burger (advertised as a double patty but was only a single). The other meals were decent (one adult, one child) but for a bill over £100 i'd have expected the quality to be way better. Probably wont go back again.

So disappointing to write this, I used to absolutely love it here but it's really changed over the years. This photo is a vegetarian Sunday roast and it just wasn't good enough. They did come over and tell us that they had run out of Yorkshire puddings but said they would give us a little something extra. I'm not sure what the extra was. The roast veg was very tough and tasted stale. The staff were very friendly as always but the food quantity/quality for the price was way off today.

Massively disappointed with the food. The starters were good however we were very disappointed with the main courses. 4 out of 6 were inedible and the other 2 were mediocre. The fish of fish and chips was tiny and extremely dry and the chips seemed to have come from the bottom of the fryer and tasted old. The lamb belly was almost entirely fat and gristle and was served with burnt cauliflower. We were deeply disappointed as it was a special birthday meal. The waiting staff were very helpful and extremely apologetic.

We visited for a Sunday lunch with friends. We left feeling disappointed and over charged. The food was average and that’s putting it politely. Some of our friends had fish and chips, the batter on the fish was so overcooked and hard it was very difficult to cut. My pie was desperately dry even with loads of gravy! The bar area is lovely, the outdoor space is beautiful and I did notice that there was a box of outdoor games for kids to use outside. There is some lovely aspects to this place. But the dining area is lacking in atmosphere and the food isn’t good enough on reflection of the price. That’s why I’m writing this review because I actually feel ripped off. The Sunday lunch/pies were around £20-22 per person it needs to be better! I wouldn’t go back for food again I’m afraid.

We visited earlier in the year for drinks and loved being sat in front of the fire, the staff were friendly and the menu looked amazing so we looked forward to returning for food. We were seated in the restaurant, which doesn't have the same cosy feel as the bar and in fact it was quite cold, myself and others kept their coats on. The waitress we had looked like she didn't want to be there I'm afraid to say. We ordered our meals and drinks but waited quite a while for the drinks to arrive. Our main courses arrived a while later and we both said they were delicious. Deserts was a tale of two half's. My partners chocolate brownie and ice-cream was delicious, my Eton mess however was not. The cream tasted very synthetic and overpowered any other flavours that were there. Very disappointing and I couldn't finish it unfortunately. Overall we found our second visit slightly disappointing in comparison to our first, where all the staff seemed lovely and friendly. If we return we will definitely dine in the bar area so as at least to get the nice atmosphere and warmth.

Served completely flat cola, I appreciate it isn’t meant to be ‘Pepsi’ or ‘cola’ but it’s meant to be fizzy at least (we have had fizzy cola here before so knew this wasn’t right). When we mentioned it to the lad behind the bar he said there was nothing wrong, and tried to charge us for replacement drinks, when we questioned that this wasn’t right, he proceeded to become argumentative with us and refused to do anything.

Seems to be closed for the long term. A neighbour said it had closed after Christmas 2023 & not reopened.
