We were a party of 5 for Sunday lunch. For once the weather was sunny so the pub was busy. All of our party ordered a roast lunch. I will comment on my meal. Having waited 1 hour the food arrived. My order of a full sized beef lunch was served on a plate so undersized that the food was stacked high. The beef was verging on grey in colour, dry over cooked, and tasteless - perhaps cooked sometime ago and frozen. The honey coated carrots were a nice touch but over cooked. The beans were also overcooked and with the carrots were under seasoned. The potatoes were fine. The red cabbage was a surprising addition but would have been much better if pickled. The Yorkshire pudding was fine but the gravy was thin and tasteless. The staff were excellent .Had my wife and I had not been with friends who live locally our meals would have been sent back. We like to support local pubs. Come on you can do better than this.

What a hidden gem this pub is. Just been for the first time and had the most delicious meal in a beautifully cared for traditional village pub. The landlord and staff were all very attentive and welcoming and we will certainly be returning to try some more of the menu very soon. We were only disappointed we were too full for dessert. Definitely a real find.

This is a lovely village pub - carefully repaired and decorated to keep and enhance its character. I was seated promptly on arrival, and felt very comfortable. There was not a huge amount of choice on the menu, and did not appear to be any specials. However, the meal that was available was cooked beautifully and was delicious. The crumble dessert in particular was excellent and tasty. The service was attentive but the waitress seemed to lack confidence and was a little flustered. This was a great pity as she had been very competent.

Disappointed with our recent visit here; my wife and I drove 40 minutes to dine here and enjoy the countryside views but we left feeling rather ripped off. Service was fine, plenty of good beers on tap although wine was expensive. I ordered fish and chips but found the batter to be soggy and under cooked; I left most of it. The chips were not seasoned. I would not hurry back anytime soon.

Went here with my friend, we ordered different meals and the presentation was great but the food itself was tasteless, no flavour which was a shame. My friends food was got in some places and cold in others (microwaved perhaps).

Really disappointed in my visit here recently with a few friends. The building is old and not well maintained. The food came out very quickly (microwaved?) and there was nothing inspiring or delicious about it, despite the menu making big promises. The pizza tasted like it had been reheated from a previous service, not nice. Would rather have stayed home and ordered Dominos to be fair. My friends commented on a lack of seasoning and finesse on their meals, everything felt slapdash and prepared with minimal effort. Finally, the pub itself has a very weird atmosphere. Dark, depressing and very little ambiance. Give this one a miss.

Random find (even though I live in a nearby village!) had not visited before. Really lovely cosy atmosphere, really nice man serving behind the bar and an absolutely wonderful vegetarian/vegan burger with carrot chutney, quality chips and onions/gherkins/vegterian and vegan cheese. When so many pubs are shut at the moment or lacking, this one really made up for it. Will definitely be back :)

What a superb pub!We received a very friendly welcome and seated immediately. No sense of crowding so could relax and enjoy our drinks and food. The landlord and staff appeared to be enjoying their time as much as the customers. The atmosphere was fantastic, with locals enjoying their evening alongside the non locals. A good selection of beers and very reasonably priced pub grub. A very enjoyable evening, I just wish there were more proper pubs like this nearer to home!

We visited on a saturday evening as a table of ten for my mums birthday. Everyone was pleasantly surprised, the lady serving us was wonderfully charming, attentive and good fun. I had the patatas bravas, warm kabbouleh salad and apple, pear and pecan crumble with ice cream. All adapted to suit vegans, something which is sometimes a bit lacking in other venues. The setting itself is very cosy with candles, flowers, soft furnishings and a friendly welcome.I shall return without a shadow of a doubt, mainly as I need to try the vegan sticky toffee pudding and the lemon and blueberry posset. Oh and they do their own ipa which is wonderfully fruity! Try them, it's worth a visit.

We visited this afternoon for the first time since moving to Brackley with some friends that was visiting and went for the Sunday roasts. They have a great variety of food on the menu and the service is absolutely fantastic. The owners are so welcoming and you get the feeling of a real family orientated pub and that was confirmed as they were also so welcoming of our 4 year old daughter. Can't wait to return already. Great little gem.

The Crewe Arms is a lovely country pub, not far from Brackley. We have been a number of times in the past, but this was our first time under this management. The service and food were excellent, both the ladies who served us were warm and friendly. It was a busy evening with Christmas parties, but we didn't feel any less attended to as a party of four. They have a fantastic menu for vegetarians and vegans, there are lots of options, quite different to any other pub. Most of the starters are tapas style, so you could order to share. I had Zucchini fritters which were very light and tasty, followed by the warm Kabbouleh salad with spicy halloumi, which was full of different flavours. I didn't have a dessert, but two of the party did and they said they were delicious (and all are suitable for vegetarians). I would strongly recommend this to meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans alike. The prices are very reasonable for such well prepared and presented food. We will be back!

Eight of us attended the Crewe Arms Hinton on the Hedges today Sunday 22 December 2019 for a family get together. Two roast pork belly dinners were part of our order. One was adequate the other was just fat no meat and not at all crispy or appetising. The accompanying bowl of vegetables were over cooked, soggy and had already been salted. When we were asked how everything was by the only male member of staff (I assume he is the landlord / manager) we replied that the pork was just a lump of fat without any meat, the vegetables were soggy, his reply was, what do you expect when you order pork belly. My description of a pork belly Sunday roast is “a beautiful soft meaty flesh with crispy crackling skin. This was not the case here. He dismissed our criticism with arrogance and self importance. The lady that had served us the meal was attentive however that’s was her only input. It is such a quaint place and probably could be a very nice place to frequent. Our advise is that the place gets rid of this arrogant male side kick. The total bill was over £160.00, although we live local we are not regulars and to be honest we will not be back soon. It was not value for money and we certainly would not recommend this place to anyone. .

We were a couple in a party for the Christmas Menu. The pub itself and the staff were good but the food was very disappointing."Chilli king prawns in a cocktail sauce" came on what was described as bruschetta but looked more like a toasted half bap, which was very hard and was completely unneccessary. Then we had the Champagne sorbet which, I guess, is supposed to lift the menu to a new level. However it did just the opposite because it was cloyingly sweet. Served as a dessert it would have been OK but a mid course sorbet is supposed to clear the palate, not destroy it.The braised brisket of beef was next - the meat itself was OK but came with a brown gravy covering everything including the vegetables. This was described as a "shallot and red wine jus". It's very pretentious to describe a brown gravy as a jus.The Christmas pudding with brandy custard sauce was OK, but came with a very tart red sauce (cranberry?) and a decoration of a strawberry and blueberries - again completely unnecessary because it spoiled the pudding. It seems that the main emphasis is on quantity rather than quality - many of our party remarked that there was too much on the plate, especially on the main courses.Of course we were asked "is everything OK" and we didn't comment, because you don't want to upset the person who arranged the party.

From the moment we walked in on a very busy Monday night (quiz night), we were made so welcome. Neither of us live locally and usually meet somewhere in the middle of our respective towns, this was a great find! It was a cold, wet, extremely miserable night but we were both so glad we'd made the effort and driven the 50 minutes or so to The Crewe Arms. The food was delicious - I had the vegan aubergine tofu curry and my friend had the chicken version, we both agreed it was lovely. I would have liked to try a dessert and next time I will - there were several vegan choices and all sounded extremely tempting. The quiz was great fun, the ambience was fab and I cannot recommend The Crewe Arms enough. Cosy pub with equally warm welcome and attentive service with delicious food and very good value. The hearty Sunday roast came with a good selection of vegetables including swede, kale & cauliflower cheese . Our only comment was that the very generous portion was so huge it was a rather unattractive mound on the plate so presentation was compromised. We needed an extra plate in order to cope with the sheer quantity. Smaller portions or having the vegetables separately on the side would rectify this.

We made a lunchtime booking at their sister hotel The Fox at Farthinghoe but owing to a problem there our booking (four adults, two children) was transferred to the Crewe Arms, no problem as the distance was similar. Unfortunately we weren’t made to feel very welcome, the waitress who was the only person we dealt with was not very welcoming, not very friendly and to be honest we felt like we were a bit of an inconvenience to her. We may well have been, it could be that they weren’t expecting any food orders and then we turned up with our transferred booking... Anyway, having made it clear that they don’t usually cater for young children (as their locals don’t have children) she made us feel a bit uncomfortable and like she was doing us a favour. I think it’s one of those pubs where if you’re not a local or from the village you’re tolerated but not welcomed. It’s a shame as it’s a lovely, ancient pub with lots of history, and the food to be fair was very nice. Pity about the welcome, but we won’t be returning.

Most disappointed by the Yorkshire puddings as these are my favourite part of a roast but thesethese were flat and rubbery. Sadly the main courses were disappointing roast potatoes cold, the beef chewy and the cauliflower cheese lacking sauce or flavour, the fish and chips my son had however were delicious, onto desert we had the sticky toffee pudding for my son again lovely and 2 x Raspberry creme brulee sadly these were hard pastry cases with runny custard inside with one raspberry and strawberries we had to leave those. It may have been because it was so busy... the staff were lovely but a little too stretched as no-one asked how our meal was whilst we had it the only opportunity to give feedback was when we paid otherwise we may have been able to rectify cold items etc.. lovely ambience and staff but stick to the fish and chips and sticky toffee pudding to enjoy your meal.

Lovely place I have eaten at before with lovely friendly staff but pretty disappointed with my meal last Sunday. I had “slow roast” pork belly. It was obviously not slow roasted, tough as old boots, fat was hard. Not nice. Came with boiled carrots and boiled parsnips. No greens. Two non crispy roasts and a sad looking yorkshire pudding. Really didn’t enjoy it. There was a very large booking in and it was very busy which may have been to blame. My husband fish and chips looked amazing though, my daughter wolfed down her chicken and my dads beef looked lush but I certainly wouldn’t order a roast here again. Fish and chips yes.

On a very cold night, the pub was welcoming but you couldn’t call it cosy. The food erred on well presented but was lacking in flavour. Spicy cauliflower soup had no taste of cauliflower and a chilli was bland and tasteless. Service was friendly. Second time here but disappointed.

This pub is on our rota of pubs to visit for a pub lunch Friday at work and they never disappoint. Sandwiches and chunky, tasty and satisfying and their chips and sweet potato fries are among the best. Very good organisation as we go as a large group and never disappoint. Would recommend to anyone as a great pub with great food and a good range of drink available too with good beers on tap and am extensive top shelf.

Our group of 12 ladies enjoyed excellent food politely and promptly served in a room dedicated to ourselves. I must commend the attentive service of the staff and the tasty, freshly prepared food from their Christmas menu. Value for money was spot on. We had no complaints and left feeling suitably full and fully satisfied with the experience. No hesitation in recommending The Crewe Arms.

Used to love it. Now they have to advertise. Brunch is cool on Saturdays. Avoid white van hour most early evenings.

Enjoyed roast beef and all the trimmings. Good servings, hot and tasty. And great service, too! I wish, though, that like most restaurants, the waiters would be equipped with the list of ice creams on offer so they don't have to go away and check when asked!

On the spur visit to this local pub. Lovely tasty roast beef and Belly pork for the hubby! Fresh veg and my fave cauliflour cheese. Too full for a pudding but other people seemed to be enjoying. Would have loved to have stayed for a coffee and brandy round the fire but I was driving! Will def return. Great service too! Thanks girls.

Full English breakfast booked but not available. Laughable 'breakfast tray' left on a chair outside the room the night before - including two pots of jam but no bread! First night this 'breakfast tray' was provided for one although there were two of us staying. Tiny room. Nobody in reception in the morning except on last day, so nobody available to contact re issues. Promised wifi not delivered. Promised hairdryer not available. No mattress cover on bed. Thin sheets - mattress visible through the sheet. Bed not made on first day. Sink emptying very slowly. Bedside tables worn out and should be replaced. Please note that we didn't eat here or use the bar - we were attending the Cropredy Music Festival nearby (as were most if not all the other guests) so we arrived each night (except arrival day) after the pub had closed and left before it opened. Fortunately on the last day the manager was there at 9am - she told us she had come in to do the cleaning herself as she was not happy with the usual standard.

Stayed here last year and really enjoyed. Stayed end of July and the room and pub were the same but the breakfast standards have dropped. Lovely cooked breakfast replaced by a cold tray delivered to room night before.

Came for a meal with friends. The starters were sublime - I had the mushroom ratatouille which was delicious, and hubby had fish cake which was enormous and he enjoyed every mouthful. The mains were disappointing in comparison. We both had the ribs which were really tender but the sauce was not very nice. It was overpoweringly sweet with a strong taste of cinnamon (weird) and vinegar. The sweet potato fries were a little too 'al dente' for me too. It was almost as if the two courses were cooked by two completely different people, even the presentation was different. However, that said, the food is very reasonably priced and our friends enjoyed their mains. The pub itself is welcoming and cosy, with modern country decor and a nice atmosphere.

This was not our first visit and we were delighted with both food and service. Three of our party chose the fish pie and I had Chilli, the mananger came over to apologise for the delay not that we had noticed tucking into our excellent wine he explained that everything is cooked to order we were not in a hurry and only to pleased to hear that all meals were prepared with fresh ingredients. well the fish pie was stunning as was the chilli well worth the wait. Only two of us had room for pudding I chose sticky toffee pudding the best that I have ever eaten and I have had a few. Can't find anything negative about this restaurant and cant wait to go back

Great meal and friendly service. The desserts were to die for! Such a beautiful village too. We were so tired after a full day of sightseeing....we were happy they were still serving and we really enjoyed our meal. Hope to come back again on our next trip to England!

A party of 8 of us went to this Restaurant for Sunday lunch a couple of days' ago. What a fabulous experience. The service was leisurely without being slow and delivered with great humour and efficiency by our waitress, Charlie. The food was as good as I have eaten anywhere and nothing was too much trouble. Reviewing the dessert menu, when we asked what the ice cream selection was, one of our party jokingly groaned that there wasn't any rum and raisin. Without batting an eyelid, Charlie offered her a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with raisins and a shot of rum. This brought the house down and resulted in 6 rum and raisin ice creams 'a la bar' being ordered. Just wish this place was closer because we would be there all the time.

We had not been there for a while and decided to go for Sunday , as when we had been before it was beautiful, I had slow roasted belly pork it was beautiful. We arrived and noticed it had changed hands, but the place still felt warm and cosy. We ordered lunch and sat down,we had been sat down for 45 minutes when the food arrived. The plates were cold then 5 minutes later the vegetables arrived. The food was just dreadful two slices of fatty lamb and my beef was curled up like shoe leather it was horrible. My husband never complains but he did this time we were not charged but went home Hungary and very disappointed.

If you stay over, the breakfast is freshly prepared exactly how you want it. Very impressed with the attention to detail. Have eaten in the evening also and on each occasion it's been delicious. Would highly recommend. Much much better than pub food served by a chain. Service is spot on and a lovely atmosphere in the bar.

Pretty ordinary. Nothing stood out. Food wasn't anything to write home about. Sorry. But I won't be going back soon.

Really friendly local village pub, well patronised by locals and some from surrounding villages. Excellent cask ales with a weekly guest ale. Although this is not a food pub, it does sell heated sausage rolls, cornish pasties, and pizza twirls along with the usual crisps, peanuts, etc. There are regular events such as Live singers, Karaoke, Bingo, and a,weekly meat raffle on a Sunday at 4.00pm followed by 'Play your cards right'. Still very much the hub of the Community. Nothing has altered, a brilliant Village pub serving excellent beverages to the Community along with a venue for friends and families to meet together. Unfortunately, the current Landlord has had to serve notice due to price rises across the board. Hopefully, the owner will try to maintain it as a community asset. Only 5 weeks remaining as a pub in its own right. I believe it will be closed for a few weeks and reopen as an Indian restaurant under a new name and management. I will have to wait and see if it will retain any 'wet' trade for locals. The pub closed and has now re opened as a bar and grill Bangladeshi restaurant. Moocha Wala.

Only stopped for a pint. Seemed nice. I've had a meal in here also. The tables were set out nicely, enough that my OAP friends could easily hear what was being said. Food was good. We weren't looking for a cheap meal. I thought that we found it reasonable. Always a pleasant setting for a quick pint.
