Only stopped for a pint. Seemed nice. I've had a meal in here also. The tables were set out nicely, enough that my OAP friends could easily hear what was being said. Food was good. We weren't looking for a cheap meal. I thought that we found it reasonable. Always a pleasant setting for a quick pint.

When we first arrived I thought wow what a pretty village and nicely decorated pub. I dont know if the young guy who served us was new or just poorly trained cos unfortunately the service left much to be desired. Yes everyone was polite but the lad got the drinks order wrong twice (a tonic and an orange juice and lemonade) and just seemed quite overwhelmed just with doing that. I asked for lime and i got a g&t, then i got tonic with lemon, and my partner said no ice but he got a lot of ice. Then when it came to the food order he hadn't been briefed properly and couldn't say the the fish of the day properly cos he wasnt sure on the name....Bream. My partner ordered a lamb dish and he wasn't asked about how he'd like it cooked. I ordered a duck salad but on arrival it was just some noodles with veg tossed through it and some slightly tough duck breast. Not what I would call a salad and I can do duck and noodle stirfry at home. We were trying to have a nice time seeing as we had been on the road for 8hours that day so we chose a couple of desserts which were ok but a bit bland. Again it may seem very trivial but the spoons were brought over with just a single napkin for the 2 of us. I've worked in the hospitality industry and some small tweaks would make the service so much better. Whilst we sat I people watched and noticed the older servers correcting the young guy about orders he had taken and had not asked the correct questions. There was a lot of standing round when they could of been shadowing him and helping him rather than pulling him up after the incident . All in all the venue is lovely. The service could be improved so easily and the food was average home cooking with some confusion on the menu. It's unlikely we will return as not from the area but I'd give it second chance if I was driving by again.

The food was very good, its a shame it took over 2 hours to be served just 2 courses, the place only had a handful of people in it, and the elderly lady serving us seemed pre occupied every time she came to our table, apologising for the long wait by blaming it on the fridge not working properly?! Not what you want to hear when you're just being served creme brulee and Eton mess! We went to the bar to pay our bill, I fear we'd still be there if I hadn't! No excuse for such slow service, when the younger waitress was just leaning on the bar when I went up to pay.

We went for a birthday and were a table of 9 people. The venue is lovely, well designed, styled and lit. Lots of hideaway areas if you want a space of your own. Menu options were varied and catered for all tastes. The food was good (not great). All well presented however the one fish and chips hardly had any fish - it was all batter and the onion rings was the same, a slither of onion and all batter. There is a parking lot round the back which is handy.

Really grieves me to leave this review but sadly this little cosy gastro pub has gone downhill in both food offering and service over the 7 years we’ve been frequenting it. We love sitting by the fire and having a few drinks - that hasn’t changed hence three for atmosphere (I’m being fair and honest here). We went in November and noticed the service was a lot slower, a change in staff and a couple of issues with our meal (dry chicken breast) and cold sides but thought it was a one off. Historically, the Sunday roast that was always an absolute rock solid choice which last week was overdone with dry beef with a cold Yorkshire pudding. What upset me most was hearing the bar manager laying into a young barman over his lack of knowledge over using the coffee machine. We heard it two tables away and I didn’t appreciate having to witness someone being publicly humiliated in this way. We will revert to the tried and tested food and service at the Duck on the Pond where the previous owners have moved to.

Haven’t visited for a couple of months so decided to call by for a couple of drinks, we were both so excited to enjoy a couple of hours at our favourite pub, the first thing I notice once we’re at the bar is the Guinness has gone and the John Smiths is off, which is a shame, my partner came especially for the Guinness. It seemed to be replaced by the new Camden Stout. We love to sit and enjoy a drink by the fire and soak up the gorgeous cosy vibes of the pub but we’re constantly distracted by the staff around the bar and their loud conversations, talking about getting drunk. The staff all seemed different to the last few times we’ve popped by. Me and my partner left questioning has this pub changed hands? We drive out here on purpose for the lovely atmosphere but today I’ve left with a bit of a sour taste in my mouth, it definitely seemed different all round. Can’t comment on the food as we only had drinks, but in the past it has been wonderful. I hope they can bring back the old charm and we would come back in a heartbeat.

We had such a great meal here on Sunday. We arrived somewhat flustered and late (having called ahead) with two young hangry kids and the staff still couldn't have been nicer to us. We felt immediately welcomed and look after. The food was fantastic (the beef in the Sunday roast was to die for), great wine, lovely cozy and stylish atmosphere. Just everything you want from a lovely country pub really! Very happy it's local to us, we'll be back many more times I'm sure.

1st visit....Would have appreciated more V options. Had the Wellington and the pastry was very very dark Overall my table were very happy. Nice ambience..... Update 2nd visit. Could have been a different place The waitress was not in the right job, food was amazingly slow. A confident waitress would have been on top of this and explained. We had a table booked for 7:30 pm and were still waiting for our first course....bread and oil at 8:35pm. We had to ask where our drinks were. GF bread was a laughable offering, actually all the bread was. Why not serve butter that hasn't come straight out of the fridge? Butter was solid and so there wasn't enough by miles Mains took forever and so did the desserts £9 for the tiniest slice of dessert.. £9!!!! This is a village pub. Whilst appreciating you need to employ local teenagers, they really need to be up to the job. Sorry. My friends told me one meal was dry and bland and one meal was greasy. Such a shame.

We made a booking here but forgot to tell them I was 'with dog' so we had to sit in the bar area but I was really happy we did! We sat right by the fire and had loads of room around us so were very comfortable. The food was all delicious and well presented. The only issue I had was with some of the bread that came which was undercooked but this was only a couple of slices in the breadboard we ordered to start with. There were some interesting sounding vegetarian options and even though I'm not vegan, the dish I chose was vegan-friendly and really flavoursome. The biscoff cheesecake to finish was a big hit... insanely good. This is a cosy pub in a lovely little village setting which was the perfect spot for lunch after a very chilly and muddy walk!

My partner and I went for Sunday Lunch at the White Horse on 7th May and sat outside. We both ordered a roast chicken dinner. It was the worst. Sunday roast I have ever had. Most of the roast potatoes, carrots and parsnips were burnt and swimming in oil. The cabbage was overcooked and slimy and the chicken was dry. The Yorkshire Pudding, looked impressive but was cold, hard and inedible. I took the meals inside to complain, I was met by a gentleman who apologised and said he would come outside to talk to us. We waited 15 minutes and nobody came, so we left. I emailed the pub and received an apology but to be honest, I do not expect food of such a low standard. Whilst waiting, we happened to look at the outside bar area, there was a tray of Yorkshire Puddings left uncovered right next to an open waste bin, the puddings were also covered in flies! Having worked in food handling and hygiene, I know food must be covered and stored hygienically, and at the correct temperature (it was a very warm day) even if indoors and away from any contamination, i.e. bins and risk of vermin/flies etc., I will not recommend this pub for food, it was awful.

The table remained empty during our entire visit. We waited nearly an hour for our food from ordering. Were given water but no water glasses - again the lady at the bar was unhelpful - she wasn't very keen to give us glasses as she was running out. The food was actually very good so it was a shame that the service and attitude of one member of staff let this pub down enormously.

This is a nice restaurant if you fancy a simple bite to eat the food on the menu is better than it is actually in real life they are trying hard but unfortunately at the moment there is still a little way to go, this said pension in soup was actually very very nice, 4 stars is a generous score unfortunately I cannot do anything less as it would be a 3.5 this said the atmosphere and the people are warm and welcoming and the bar area / bar restaurant is dog friendly so big thumbs up for that. 😃😃

Excellent lunch for 9. Attentive staff and good food. Portion size has diminished over the summer (last visit) but food standard remained. Beer is good quality. Nice country pub but a few problems with the fire smoking.

Pretty ordinary. Nothing stood out. Food wasn't anything to write home about. Sorry. But I won't be going back soon.

Really friendly local village pub, well patronised by locals and some from surrounding villages. Excellent cask ales with a weekly guest ale. Although this is not a food pub, it does sell heated sausage rolls, cornish pasties, and pizza twirls along with the usual crisps, peanuts, etc. There are regular events such as Live singers, Karaoke, Bingo, and a,weekly meat raffle on a Sunday at 4.00pm followed by 'Play your cards right'. Still very much the hub of the Community. Nothing has altered, a brilliant Village pub serving excellent beverages to the Community along with a venue for friends and families to meet together. Unfortunately, the current Landlord has had to serve notice due to price rises across the board. Hopefully, the owner will try to maintain it as a community asset. Only 5 weeks remaining as a pub in its own right. I believe it will be closed for a few weeks and reopen as an Indian restaurant under a new name and management. I will have to wait and see if it will retain any 'wet' trade for locals. The pub closed and has now re opened as a bar and grill Bangladeshi restaurant. Moocha Wala.

Old and cosy! A small bar and a long bar, don't know why they need football on in BOTH bars?!
