Really friendly local village pub, well patronised by locals and some from surrounding villages. Excellent cask ales with a weekly guest ale. Although this is not a food pub, it does sell heated sausage rolls, cornish pasties, and pizza twirls along with the usual crisps, peanuts, etc. There are regular events such as Live singers, Karaoke, Bingo, and a,weekly meat raffle on a Sunday at 4.00pm followed by 'Play your cards right'. Still very much the hub of the Community. Nothing has altered, a brilliant Village pub serving excellent beverages to the Community along with a venue for friends and families to meet together. Unfortunately, the current Landlord has had to serve notice due to price rises across the board. Hopefully, the owner will try to maintain it as a community asset. Only 5 weeks remaining as a pub in its own right. I believe it will be closed for a few weeks and reopen as an Indian restaurant under a new name and management. I will have to wait and see if it will retain any 'wet' trade for locals. The pub closed and has now re opened as a bar and grill Bangladeshi restaurant. Moocha Wala.

Excellent customer service. Stopped off during our 8.5 mile walk around the area, for a well earned break and we were made to feel so welcome. A member of our group asked if they did tea! Although not usually served the landlady was more then happy to accommodate her. We normally find that some pubs do not like walker's in their premises but that cannot be said here. I noticed dogs were welcomed too and we have already planning another walk in the area that will take us here again very soon.

We are blessed with good pubs in the local area but if you want a drink in a good location with great hosts and atmosphere then this is the place to be. We have started to visit a bit more regular now and enjoy Sunday afternoons with the meat raffle. There’s always a good friendly crowd . Sometimes it’s quiet but it can get quite lively which is great fun. Beer is kept well and they now do some warm snacks such as sausage rolls. Nothing is too much for the landlord and landlady.

The pub had such a lovely friendly vibe. The staff were also lovely. My wife and I are vegetarian and it was so nice and unusual to have to ponder on what to eat. There were far more options on the menu than we are used to. The food we had was fantastic and at, what I thought a very reasonable price. We will sure be eating at the Red Lion again.

We met with friends here yesterday for lunch. Sitting in the sun having a drink it is a lovely setting in a beautiful village. We had booked lunch for four people,we didn't imagine we would be the only people in there. The waitress was polite and friendly. We were not offered a menu but had the choice of roast chicken pork or beef no mention of starters. They didn't have any peas for our friend who prefers them to other vegetables .The food was enjoyable but very ordinary. We had the choice of three sweets one of which was ice cream. When two people asked for ice cream they hadn't got enough. What kind of a place runs out of something as simple as that. We thought it was over priced for what we got.Would not recommend it based on this experience. Meg

Four of us stopped here for an early sup after a day out. We'd booked, which was just as well as all tables were fully occupied being a Friday evening. It's a nice looking well kept place, inside and out which all boded well. The service was excellent. We shared a couple of starters, which were good, but not cheap. For mains the others seemed satisfied, the fish n'chips and day's special of cottage pie were both good, but not specially good, both had expected something a bit more special. The mixed fish grill was plentiful and enjoyed. But my Red Thai of fish was a real disappointment. I love a red Thai but this was so over chillied that no other flavour came through and it completely drowned the taste of the fragrant rice and fish. Also for the money, there was hardly any fish - more veg than fish, with only a few prawns and a few very small pieces of fish. So not good value and although a lovely place to sit and terrific service the food overall was not as good as we'd hoped or expected. But the chocolate truffles ( 4 for £2 ) were well worth the money.

Yo no volveré sha

Visited with my family including two children. As this pub is a gastro pub I expected good food what we had was average. They had run out of chips which was a shame as they were really good but children like chips and did not eat the substituted new pots. My husband also got pots with his steak. They did give a free dessert to compensate but it wasn't the same. The kids were also served cabbage with goujons which did not go down well at all. One table close by 3 people had completed their meal when the last meal came out. Another table couple were being apologised to as well. The restaurant is small intimate and quite pleasant.

Celebration lunch left us bitterly disappointed. Lovely greeting when we arrived and a very nice waitress to look after us . We waited quite some time for the meal to arrive but didn't mind that too much .My fish and chips arrived and I noticed a fly was stuck to my chip I broke the end of the chip off and gave to the waitress . I didn't want to make to much fuss as I wasn't paying my daughter was . She looked a bit embarrassed and took the chip away . She arrived back fro the kitchen and said that the chef didn't know how that could happen and it has never happened before.Sorry that explanation is not satisfactory , Yes you do know how that happened the fly came in through the door and landed in the oil the chips were cooked in it wasn't sitting on top of the chip it was stuck to it spread eagled .Then you send that poor girl out with that unacceptable explanation . Now I'm feeling it was my fault . Send a Manager out or the chef to apologise and explain you going to make sure it doesn't happen again . You don't make customers feel they are in the wrong for complaining .

I booked on basis off past good reviews as a celebration family lunch today when we visited the area meeting up from traveling north & south. The chefs pie of the day was topped with a pastry circle which was cold & raw/ uncooked in centre on top of cold hard white lumps of what was meant to be pork. Potato was hard & old. A group of us had dinner here on a Friday evening, it was busy but not overrun.Firstly I have to mention that the bar & waiting staff were very friendly and helpful (and apologetic). The menu is very much 'good honest pub grub' and there's nothing wrong with that...only some of our dishes were tasty and hearty while others were sparse and a bit on the embarrassing side. The steak & ale pie was excellent but you had to hunt for the sea bass on the plate and at about £16 was vastly overpriced. Then again, the starters (especially the white bait were very good and there was nothing wrong with the desserts.

We came here for my mums birthday. Its a lovely little place cosy and warm. The food was good i had the venison scotch egg which was delicious, lamb rump which i did ask for medium rare but it wasn't still tasty though and the brownie and blondie for dessert which was yummy. There was a lot of nice things said about the black jack ice cream which was a hit.I would have given this place a 5 but a few little things let it down. The service was slow and a little fumbled. When questions were asked nobody seemed to know about what was on the menu. Though the girl who served us was lovely I think she may have just been new and a little nervous. My medium rare lamb ended up with my mum so not sure if the other waitress knew what she was bringing out and that one lamb was different. Though this wouldn't stop me from coming again as everyone agreed the food was lovely. I would also recommend this place to others as well

Called in at The Red Lion for lunch today, to be welcomed by friendly staff and shown to a a table overlooking the village green . The menu was simple but varied, We both chose the rump steak with mashed potatoes rather than the chips , accompanied with vine tomatoes , field mushroom , and a fresh mixed leaf salad ( it was very fresh , no strange brown bits as is often encountered ) the steak arrived perfectly medium rare as requested . Sadly we had no time for a pudding or coffee . The bill arrived promptly when asked for , another plus . For some reason most establishments ask what we would like to drink before we have barely crossed the threshold let alone decided what we may be eating. Also good not to have an eighties style blackboard above our heads with lots of short sighted fellow diners leaning over the table trying to decipher it ,these and Specials Boards balanced on chairs are a particular hate of mine .Heartily recommended to any other foodies who may be in the area .

My friend and I stumbled across this pub today. It's very much off the beaten track and took some finding! We were greeted with a warm welcome and our drinks were brought to our table. The decor had just been updated and was very tastefully done, with lots of interesting things to look at as you ate or drank. The pub was bright and airy and had lovely views of the village.. We both ordered a rump steak and requested mash instead of chips. The food arrived promptly and was delicious - cooked to perfection. It is rare to find a pub that serves steaks at the same price as other dishes on the menu (so often steaks are premium prices). The service was excellent and the lady on the bar was very attentive. We would have stayed for a pud / coffee if we'd had more time.

Last visited quite some time ago and on that occasion sat out on a lovely day on the very pleasant and nicely furnished front terrace, so thought we'd take the opportunity to check it out again. Very quiet but given a friendly greeting and offered the lunch menus. We both had sandwiches which are served with excellent chips. They were nicely presented and very tasty and so encouraged us to look at the evening menu for a future occasion. Like the lunchtime menu the dinner menu is 'different' and looks pretty imaginative so well worth exploring further.

Overall I had a pleasant lunch. The atmosphere is nice. The menu offers about 5 starters and a choice of 3 roast dinners. I didn't have a desert so cannot comment on the range. The children's menu was the usual fare including ia squash and ice cream, the portion size probably OK up to about 8 years old. My starter of gifts cheese pan cota was I thought a little tasteless. Much better was the baked Camembert my fellow diners shared. The roast dinner arrived all plated up. It was very plentiful but heavy on the veg side. At first I could not see my beef. The menu offered roast fire rib. I would be very surprised if this had been cut fresh from a good joint. It was too thinly sliced and that brown colour alover which you get with cheaper eating places. On the whole the veg were imaginatively prepared with braised red cabbage, creamed leaks etc and homemade Yorkshire pudding but they appeared to hide the beef. I wondered if this was done deliberately to hide the meat! I like to see the meat presented on its own with Yorkshire pudding and then help myself to veg but maybe that is a personal pretence. Either way the meat was not the show stopper it should have been for what presents itself as a posh pub. The service was very good. The overall experience was ok.

Had a family meal here and thoroughly enjoyed the food, staff and atmosphere. Nice venue for fine dining. You pay for what you get here, decent food and service. Best pub in the local area in our opinion....thank you :)

This pub must be under new management again. Preferred the old deco which was more simplistic and modern. This is too chintzy. Food not good

I loved this pub before as the food is wonderful and the staff are lovely and it is in a beautiful village. They have recently had a mini re-furb and it is simply amazing! So quaint and cosy I would recommend to anyone! The food is delicious! They have a really great menu with so much choice, something for everyone!!Great selections of wines and beers - my partner loves the specialist German beer they have on tap! Very trendy but they also have a wide selection of lagers and ales for the masses! If you just fancy a drink (or two....or three....) or want a full blown fabulous meal, this is a wonderful place to go!!

We recently hired the Red Lion to host an afternoon celebration for our friends and families after getting married in New York. We had been to the Red Lion many times before for lunch and dinner and always been impressed with the style of the pub, the service and the food, so we knew we were in safe hands. But the team went over and above and pulled out all stops to host this event. The chef prepared a great menu of freshly made and delicious finger food (the mini Yorkshire puds were a big hit) and the team were very attentive with our guests. They even surprised us with extra decorations around the pub to make our big day more special. Couldn't recommend this place enough.

We make a stop her before we went for the airport and we spend a long time here because the food, wine and service was so great. We almost miss our plane!!!!We tried a lot of food in this great pub and all of theme was delicate and tasty. They have some good wine by glass and many different beers. If you are a fan of great food, this is the place for you.

I came here the other day with my husband for coffee and cake, I had a pumpkin spiced latte, and a slice of Victoria sponge cake, the latte was delicious, temperature was perfect, the cake was nice, light and fluffy. My husband had a flat white and a brown sugar shortbread, he said his drink and shortbread was very tasty. The staff were polite, and friendly.

Old and cosy! A small bar and a long bar, don't know why they need football on in BOTH bars?!

Only stopped for a pint. Seemed nice. I've had a meal in here also. The tables were set out nicely, enough that my OAP friends could easily hear what was being said. Food was good. We weren't looking for a cheap meal. I thought that we found it reasonable. Always a pleasant setting for a quick pint.
