Out and about as usual, so tried the Royal Oak, it was ok, not the best we have had by far unfortunately, we had the farmhouse pate and turkey roast dinner, a few things could be improved if they want to have a Sunday roast to be know for, the gravy was to thin for us but some people might like it like that. The Yorkshire pudding was too thick for me I prefer them crisper. Portion size was good although the service was pretty slow, the pub had a good atmosphere though.

Wow! Lovely setting and the warm welcome, friendly staff and cosey fire place really makes for a great atmosphere. I have eaten here a few times for evening meals and Sunday roasts and the food never ever disappoints and is always first class, so when i heard that they were now open for breakfast i just had to try it, had the eggs benedict, eggs cooked perfectly and the attention to detail was incredible home made hollandaise with some very high quality ham no expense spared and great value for money cant recommend it enough! Enjoy! :)

Born and bred in Cogenhoe and the Royal Oak has seen it's fair share of landlords and landlady's over the years and it's safe to say Maxine is the best thing that could of ever happened to Oak! The staff are always welcoming and accommodating and the food is very high quality and great value for money and the best thing is they've just started opening for breakfast, they didn't have a BLT on the menu which is my favourite but typical Maxine, always happy to accommodate wherever possible she made me a BLT baguette which was hands down the best id ever had even though it's simple you can still tell the quality from the fresh French stick and top quality bacon yum! defo going back x

Well what a great find , we had a very warm welcome from the bar staff and the staff and meal in the restaurant part of the pub was exceptional. I couldn’t fault it at all . Delicious food with generous helpings of fresh vegetables and meat . Plenty of gravy boats . They have a vegetarian option too. 10 out of 10 . Must return soon , brilliant.

Been regulars here for a while, doesn’t have the same genuine, welcoming feel it used to have. Nice enough but missing something, can’t put my finger on it, lacks authentic atmosphere. Also seen a few faces get treated unfairly and favouritism is very apparent. A shame really, hopefully it picks up and improve, would be sad if the place let down what the previous workers spent a long time building up.

The Oak is actually my local pub. Earlier this year a change of ownership took place and last week we finally got around to trying their new menu. Mid week we went for lunch and tried the new bar snack menu. The food and service was excellent, the panini’s had so much filling and were scrumptious! Last weekend we went for Sunday lunch, had a lovely home cooked roast and Maxine’s cauliflower cheese is superb 👌 So lucky to have such a warm, welcoming friendly pub right on our doorstep. It’s a must visit, so don't delay, book a table our drop in for a few drinks, you won’t be disappointed. ❤️

We like to go out for Sunday lunch. We are not picky but any meal out should be enjoyable and we have struggled recently to find a village pub with everything we look for in a Sunday roast until now. We can fault nothing with our recent meal at the Royal Oak. From the friendly staff when we arrived, the waiting staff again friendly and helpful and the roast itself, I had beef my husband pork, lovely crunchy on the outside roast potatoes, fresh vegetables and the side order of cauliflower cheese so tasty with loads of cheese sauce. I nearly didn't do a review as I wanted to keep this gem of a pub to myself !

The pub has new owners so I popped in for a pint. What a warm and friendly welcome! The interior is beautiful now, a roaring fire, and the bar has a full range of excellent drinks. It was busier than the average rural pub for a Thursday night, though not too busy, and all the locals were friendly and happy to engage. The ale was first class; a tribute to their cellar-craft. I thought the barmaid had undercharged me, but no, it was simply very good value. I will definitely be going here again!

Had an unreal night last weekend at the Royal Oak, but not in the good sense! We have been many times and always really enjoyed the food, the service and the atmosphere, recommending to lots of friends and family. We booked for a anniversary meal knowing what to expect, but couldn't have been more wrong. Didn't start too well as we couldn't get in the pub properly via one of the entrances exits. Table and chairs were blocking, a fire risk and slightly illegal! There was a large group that were on a work party and obvious that they would be loud, not an issue normally as it adds some atmosphere. As the evening went on the loudness increased to the point where 2 people sitting next to each other couldn't hear each other. We practically had to place our order via hand signals. The staff made no attempt to look after all the other diners by speaking to the group ( seen other pubs do this and manage well). In fact the staff pretty much avoided the area, probably due to the noise. The service was quick though, which was a blessing and allowed us to get out as quickly as we could, skipped dessert though as had enough by that point. The food was just ok, they've done better in the past. However don't order the Nibble platter, simply not good value at £20. It was small and unbalanced (5 small prawns for 2 people??). A pity a larger tables revenue ruined several diners experience, and the long term effect will yet be determined as word of mouth still carries weight. Perhaps private room hire for Christmas parties is a better way to go? What was more disappointing was the metaphorical shrugging of the shoulders when we mentioned it on the way out, like it should just be accepted. Poor customer service. I personally won't recommend it for a moderately atmospheric meal, ideal though if you book a large table and want the place to yourself without paying for the privilege.

The service was appalling, complete lack of interest from the staff and all evening had to ask and chase to be served drinks and food. The menu is interesting and the food was tasty but very overpriced for the portion sizes. We were dining with friends who have also visited many times before. This was our first time at this pub, we chose it because of its trip advisor comments and reviews & we weren’t disappointed. Very nice friendly welcome from all the staff and a nice atmosphere about the place. We ate in the bar as the restaurant was fully booked but that wasn’t a problem, we were given a nice table by the window. Hubby and I both had starters, he had olives and I had the crab terrine, both of which were very nice. We both chose the steak and kidney pie for our mains, and it was beautiful, home made with lots tender meat and plenty of kidney and gorgeous gravy. One of the nicest pies that we have had. We will certainly be going back to try some more of their menu. Would thoroughly recommend the place.

Wanted to have a pub roast but unfortunately due to mum being very poorly we were unable to go out and enjoy the luxury of being waited on. So I had a brainwave. Most weekends through the early part of last year we had a takeaway roast from here and it was outstanding. So, I popped in here on the way home from work one evening the other week and asked if they would be kind enough to do me two roast dinner's as a takeaway.....and the happily obliged and I arranged a time to call in and collect. On the Sunday it turned out to be a rather warm day so I after paying I advised I would wait outside as I had the dog in the car and would they yell when ready and I would come back in. The lovely girl behind the bar Rd me to stay with the dog and she would bring them out to me. After a short wait she brought them out and they were red hot so I knew had been freshly prepared and not just sitting on the side waiting collection. When I got them the short drive home they were still piping hot. To save on the washing up we are from the trays, THE MEAT WAS TO DIE FOR! so tender and very tasty, as was all the food and plentiful. So thanks to the staff for a tasty meal and for helping me with my request of a takeaway will certainly be back

Only stopped for a pint. Seemed nice. I've had a meal in here also. The tables were set out nicely, enough that my OAP friends could easily hear what was being said. Food was good. We weren't looking for a cheap meal. I thought that we found it reasonable. Always a pleasant setting for a quick pint.

Really friendly local village pub, well patronised by locals and some from surrounding villages. Excellent cask ales with a weekly guest ale. Although this is not a food pub, it does sell heated sausage rolls, cornish pasties, and pizza twirls along with the usual crisps, peanuts, etc. There are regular events such as Live singers, Karaoke, Bingo, and a,weekly meat raffle on a Sunday at 4.00pm followed by 'Play your cards right'. Still very much the hub of the Community. Nothing has altered, a brilliant Village pub serving excellent beverages to the Community along with a venue for friends and families to meet together. Unfortunately, the current Landlord has had to serve notice due to price rises across the board. Hopefully, the owner will try to maintain it as a community asset. Only 5 weeks remaining as a pub in its own right. I believe it will be closed for a few weeks and reopen as an Indian restaurant under a new name and management. I will have to wait and see if it will retain any 'wet' trade for locals. The pub closed and has now re opened as a bar and grill Bangladeshi restaurant. Moocha Wala.

Pretty ordinary. Nothing stood out. Food wasn't anything to write home about. Sorry. But I won't be going back soon.

Old and cosy! A small bar and a long bar, don't know why they need football on in BOTH bars?!
