We went for a scenic drive and found The Creggans Inn. We decided to have a bite to eat & the Highland Coo steak and Ale pie, and it was absolutely delicious. Lunch was from 12 until 2 pm & dinner times were 6 until 8 pm. Our time felt rushed to order and eat because of those times, but it was very enjoyable nonetheless.

We visited Creggans for an evening meal, staying in a cottage locally. We found the restaurant quite appealing and nicely furnished, though a bit lacking in atmosphere. Our food was just ok. We shared pitta breads and hummus for a starter .. the hummus was tasty, the pitta breads warm). One main course was a steak pie.... the meat was beautifully cooked, too much actually, but the 'pie' only comprised a separately cooked thick overly-flaky cushion of puff pastry balanced on top. The vegetables were nice, tasty, well-cooked. The other main course was the fish pie ... this was a fairly small portion, but hot and nicely cooked (presumably microwaved from a previously prepared portion), good quality prawns & white fish, but a little under-seasoned. It would've been nice to have a piece of crunchy bread on the side, especially for a contrast in texture, and to mop up the sauce at the end (luckily I kept a small piece of pitta bread from the starter as I thought from the menu description that this might've been a short-coming). We didn't try the desserts. The Fyne Ales Highlander beer was very good and reasonably priced, tho the pint of lime & soda was overpriced.

An absolutely top rate experience. Old World charm in a beautifully maintained Hotel in an amazing setting in the shore of Loch Fyne with unparalleled views up and down the Loch. The decor is fresh and clean. There are multiple large Lounge areas for relaxing with company. The Staff were helpful and welcoming. The food was very good for both Dinner and even better at Breakfast. There is a lively Public Bar with a dart board and a Pool Table. The Owners own original art work decorates the downstairs Lounge area and mirrors the views through the window. They are very reasonably priced. Having driven past this iconic landmark Hotel for the past fifty years without ever entering it I was delighted to share a landmark Birthday with Family incorporating an overnight stay. It was a fantastic experience.

We had a confirmation email for our booking, which they had not written in the book, however they did find us a table. Out the back by the kitchen doors, which were in frequent use. The waitresses were polite, but the service was incredibly slow. We arrived at 7 and were the last people at 9.30 when we left. The Lamb was really tasty but I wish I had been advised to order, a side of dish of vegetables. The menu said it came with roasted vegetables, the few slices of peppers and onion with some pea shoots are not enough to make a 5 a day portion. There was a lack of fruity desserts too, Scotland are famous for raspberries and strawberries they must all be exported? I had to settle for the apple sorbet with ginger cake. Would I eat here again, probably not.

We booked for a family meal. A Sunday evening, 6.15. The staff were welcoming. The kitchen was very busy obviously, as we had to wait 50 minutes before the kids food arrived. They were getting a bit tetchy by then. Our food arrived about 10 minutes later. I had Pork fillet. It was well cooked but possibly a bit too arty fartily presented for my liking. My main concern was that for nearly £20 the portion was small. I was hungry so perhaps that clouded my opinion. However my wife had the same and also felt short changed... My daughter had a steak which was perfectly cooked. However the steak appeared to be covered in salt. The chips were very salty as was the sauce. So overall it was good in parts, however my main feeling was of disappointment.

The Inn has a scenic location overlooking Loch Fyne however we were having an evening meal in the bistro at the rear of the building so this outlook didn’t feature at all in our experience. Apparently there are views from the bar, the residents dining room and picnic tables in the grounds. There is parking alongside the Inn and we got a space without any issues. It may be different at peak times. The bistro has a contemporary look and on the night we visited there were a reasonable number of other guests which gave the place a good atmosphere. The menu had a selection of seven starters, nine mains and about six desserts with the mains varying in price from £14.50 to £24.50. There were a couple of vegetarian options for each course. I pushed the boat out for starters and selected the Hand Dived Scallops (£11.00), my wife had Tempura Battered King Prawns (£7.50) and we both had Seabass (£18.50) for our mains. As expected, you don’t get many scallops for the price however the three I did get were very nicely cooked and all the accompanying items on the plate added to the experience - delicious. My wife enjoyed the prawns which came with a mixed leaf garnish and sweet chilli sauce. The mains too were nicely cooked, the fish peeled easily from the skin and was accompanied with a chorizo and pea risotto and sauce vierge - very tasty. The only disappointment of the evening was when it came to dessert and as we were a little stumped for choice we both opted for their Coconut Panna Cotta (£6.50). I couldn’t taste any coconut although my wife did and that aside this seemed to be a panna cotta with very little in the way of substance or flavour. It was served with ice cream - I requested vanilla -and strawberries which were the saving grace. With an alcohol free beer and gin and tonic added our bill came to £78.00. Staff were pleasant and the service was nicely timed for a relaxing evening. Staff and guests were adhering to Covid-19 precautions by wearing masks when not seated, tables were reasonably spaced and hand sanitiser was available so we did not feel uncomfortable about dining at this venue.

A pretty and imposing building sat right on the Loch seemed like the perfect place to pull in for a pit stop after a morning of driving. We weren't entirely sure if it's a service they ordinarily offer, but the friendly lady on reception was very accommodating & sorted us with a generous tea pot & some delicious cake & shortbread. The sitting room had a certain old-world rustic charm - a jumble-sale-chic of mis-matched furniture, some pieces perhaps more destined for the repair shop. But the view from the room is extraordinary, and the furniture should be arranged to better celebrate it. Wifi & toilet facilities were excellent. And there is a small but lovely selection of local craft pieces available to purchase - which we did!!

Not often I leave reviews of this nature, but this place is just shocking. Food could be described at best as just ok. The service was shockingly slow with the meals coming out to our table over a 5/10 minute period with no explanation or apology. Some of our food was lukewarm bordering cold. I raised my concerns with a female member of staff who I presume was the owner, she was extremely rude and quite frankly couldn’t have cared less. I would suggest going forward she considers a career change as the hospitality industry is obviously not for her. I would also suggest she takes a look at all the recent reviews and acts upon them sooner rather than later otherwise she may not have a business at all. If you are thinking of visiting, I would suggest you spend your money elsewhere after all there are plenty of quality establishments in the area only too happy to accommodate you..

Mixed review for a lunch stop here. My husband had a chicken burger, my son had a beef burger that they enjoyed. I had a steak that could only be described as average served with a small mushroom that looked awful ( black), thankfully did taste better than it looked, the chips for all three meals were below average frozen ones but inedible due to an extreme amount of salt, considering the steak was the most expensive item on the menu at around £24. Oh dear so disappointed, been coming many time over the years and feel so let down by this place its always been good but on this occasion (sat night) I cannot rate it any more than poor. This place has all the ingredients to be a great foodie pub great location, ambience, clean and tidy, great decor but on this occasion the restaurant staff and food really let it down, we went with friends who were new to the area and we all felt so let down there was no warm welcome when we entered the bar, when eventually seated we had to wait for menus then we were given the slowest waitress whom had no personality what so ever obviously in the wrong job, and didn’t want to be there, she was slow to take our order, slow to do everything and as the night progressed it went from bad to worse. The meals didn’t come out together, after finally waiting for everyone to receive their food 3 of our friends told us the food was cold and when eventually all the meals turned up everyone was really disappointed with the size of the portions. The fish and chips I agree with a similar recent post it was more of a fish finger, the steak pie was small lacking any reasonable meat and more pastry than anything else and the burger was so very dry and tasteless. We spoke to some other diners that evening who shared a similar opinion about the small portions/ slow service and cold food so I don’t think this is just us there were a few disappointed people this evening and we overheard someone else complaining at the bar we presume about a similar experience! The management really need to take steps to action on this before the reputation is spoilt.Wouldn’t return in a hurry there is lots of better pubs in the local area, I’m shocked and disappointed but won’t Be returning.

Three issues which results in the decision we won’t be returning to the Creggans inn again.1st - My boy didn’t fancy the limited 4 choice kids menu and asked if they could do a kids burger, as they had a adult burger on the menu. Grateful they said they could do a smaller one, they even asked what veg/ sides he wanted and confirmed they would make a small portion for him (he’s 7) on receiving the bill shocked ! how many restaurants charge £15.50 for a kids main burger meal. Total rip off hoping we would not spot this on the bill. We brought this matter to the attention of the manager who did nothing and stood by the charge- outrageous. 2nd - Our friend ordered from the menu “cheesecake of the day” for her son, the waitress didn’t say what it was, she was lacking in conversation and ran off before we had chance to ask what was in it, luckily mum tried it first when she suspected it had nuts in it, thank goodness she did as he has a nut allergy. She quickly got up to ask the waitress what the cheesecake was whom confirmed it did have nuts and obviously this was a very lucky outcome but this restaurant showed no care for allergies/ special dietary requests. 3rd - Five main meals turn up together but the sixth was forgotten about and turned up 10mins after other meals, no apology and when it came eventually it was obviously forgotten about as it was straight out the fryer ! Boiling. 1 of the meals was cold certainly not piping hot as they should be in February, we were never checked if the meal was ok, and only when everyone had finished the mains were we asked if everything was ok.

Dinner was very good and we can recommend on the started menu - the hand dived scallops, home made pate and condit of duck - all excellent. Main course lamb, hake and salmon with their accompaniments - all excellent. However, the the frozen chips that were served the steak were poor and did not meet the high standard of the rest of the dishes. Hence the 4 star rating. The appearance of this review may be unwelcome to the owner of the Creggan, as,on seeing that she deducted the cost of two servings of a fish dish from our group's bill, reducing it to just over £100, a fairer estimate of the value to us of a meal for four during a recent lunch visit. However,on reflection it struck me that the restaurant's view that our complaints would have been more effective if we had shown unhappiness at the point of tasting the two Cullen Skinks, which clearly lacked sufficient fish. Fine, perhaps, but the server of most of the fare was a young boy, suitably formally dressed, but clearly not able to cope with a quietly expressed adverse comment on the poorly heated course served to my female partner. It struck me later that a high end eatery probably should have mature waiting staff, able, maybe, to discuss meals served from a position of experience rather than school student politeness. The wages cost of such a youngster would have been slight, given the likely mark-up at this establishment, but still... And, crucially. The suggestion to me from the owner/manageress that we return the two plates of skink so the kitchen could put the dish right, did not make sense since the cook would have indicated her/his satisfaction with the two plates, simply by allowing waiting staff to take them to us the diners. We have had to accept that in the professional judgement of the cook, the food was ready & perfect for consumption. The manager,if she had provided us with the skink plates, would surely, you would hope, have noticed the lack of body in the two dishes, but this difficult task was left in the hands of a young woman employee, & any complaint to her would have pitted her opinion against the likely power of the cook in his domain, perhaps then supported by the owner on what would have been a debasing interview with the cook. Who knows? So, yes, we could have complained at the time by asking to see a manager for the three faulty servings, but I felt that, for the price, & insult to us as trusting diners, stronger action was needed, post-meal & at the point of discussing the bill, & that is what I did. Needless to say we do not expect to eat at Creggans again, even if, as a gesture they offer us a meal for four with a very large discount, & a guarantee of quality food with adequate content, & well heated. Disappointing but a chance to learn for the Creggan. Thanks.

The food was good, we had the hake (hope you like capers - fortunately we did! ) nice bit of fish but could have done with an accompaniment...the fondant potato were tiny cubes (why, potato costs nothing! ). The Teenage boy had burger which we asked for plain with any sauces etc on the side. It came with salad and sauce already in the bun...again, luckily this was just a little ketchup so acceptable in the Teenage eyes. But additional ketchup didn't arrive till the rest of the chips had almost gone.

We stopped for dinner which we were very much looking forward to. We both had soup which was lovely, although the chef should have tasted the Cullen skink which was very underseasoned. I ordered roast chicken. This was a very small skinlessbreast of chicken with a very small portion of vegetables. Think 2 leaves of kale, 3 half baby carrots a floret of broccoli and a small spoonful of fried potato cubes. I told the waitress that I was unhappy with the size of the portion and she seemed a bit bewildered. She asked another waitress, an elderly woman I presume was in charge who offered to "take it back and get you more stuff" I don't like sending food back so I declined. She appeared 5 minutes later with a bowl of "stuff" saying there's more potatoes and vegetables for you ohkaaay! Just rude and not showing any customer skills. I hope the youngsters are being shown the ropes by someone else. At £47 l think we should have had a nicer experience. This place used to be so much better. Staff can ruin a business.

Visited with family members on holiday from Australia and had been telling them that the food on our last visit was very good, albeit it was a very long time ago and the food w inas good, sadly not now. I ordered their beefburger that was so dry it was almost impossible to cut through never mind eat.On hindsight I think the problem that it was grossly overdone was that it took so long to be served,, it was as though it was left either lying under a heat lamp or left in an oven, while the rest of the order was being made.

My wife and I were staying in Fermor (a holiday home) two minutes walk from The Creggan Inn. We called in at 5:30pm tonight (26th March) for a meal. We were told food wasn't served until 6pm. Given we were just back from a visit to Benmore Botanic Garden plus it was my wife's birthday we were happy to order a drink and wait. The pub itself is a cosy place with ample seating, darts and a pool room. The place is spotless as is the dining area. We were absolutely delighted with the food quality and quantity. The staff were extremely friendly, courteous and attended to our every need. We will be back tomorrow night to sample other delicacies from the menu.

We enjoyed having fish and chips in the Creggan Inn. We had the fish though there were lots of other tasty things on the menu and we were not sorry. The fish was fresh and the batter crisp and non greasy as were the hand cut chips and the mushy peas. Plus a wee thank you from us as I left my card in the card machine by mistake. When I returned it was safely in an envelope in the safe. Many thanks.

We ate here twice when on holiday in the village. The first time we sat in the restaurant which seemed a bit old fashioned and the meals were, well ordinary. We returned and ate in the bar which was more lively and had a wood burning stove which helps with the atmosphere, food was much better this time too.

OK if you don't have time for anywhere else. Could be so much better. Food is average at best! Situated on the banks of Loch Fyne with access to some of Scotland's finest produce. They just need a chef, a bit of marketing and would then be a destination of choice rather than a stop gap!

Latest in our selection places-we’ve-wanted-to-try-for-ages-near-us. The Creggans Inn is nicely in between us and Dunoon so makes the perfect halfway house for a lunch or dinner from or too. It’s right on the main road, on the beautiful banks of Loch Fyne. Nice looking building too, what’s not to like ? First impressions are good - the entry through McPhunns bar is that of an authentic pub where real folk drink rather than yer average Argyll tourist trap. Staff are well presented and friendly too, more good stuff to be had then. We’d booked for lunch but the place was pretty deserted. We were shown to a table in a small area with a round table with space for 4. It’s sadly at the back of the building with absolutely no views of the stunning vistas to be had out front. A real shame and then some. Menu has sandwiches and the full evening stuff too - some lovely sounding stuff(we'll be back) - but our party is not here for long so sandwiches and soup it is. I’ll cut to the chase then - the food is very good, a very good place indeed.

Had to book for a Sunday night in July. Thought it would be mainly a fish restaurant as it is on the West coast fish trail, but it was more a 1980's style meat and mash potatoes place. one of the mains had to be sent back as it had been under a heat lamp for so long the fish and vegetables were not edible, and we did not receive an apology at any stage of the evening!

We had Room 10 and it was one of the nicest rooms we've stayed in for a while. Although it is summer I think the towel rail should be on especially if you are staying more than one night, damp towels are not the best! Dining in the evening is in the smallish and dark pub or Bistro but you can be outside weather and midges permitting. The hotel has a beautiful large airy dining room which looks out to Loch Fyne which is were you have breakfast, with such a lovely view and being Summer I really don't understand why they don't use it, such a pity. The food is nice, breakfast takes a while from tea arriving to actual breakfast it took nearly half an hour! The serving staff are lovely, always a smile and polite.

We stayed at this hotel for three nights in the blistering heat of July. It gets most things right and with a little bit of effort could be really excellent. The accommodation is small, we had a loch view, but the shower and bathroom were excellent. Our main problem was with the food. Despite having booked we were told that due to congestion in the kitchen our order couldn’t be taken for twenty minutes on two evenings. In fact when we did order the food came quite quickly and it might have been better to say they were busy so food might take a bit longer rather than refuse to take the orders. On our second evening, there were four items on the menu that were ‘off’. Now we could understand difficulties with fresh fish, but chicken and duck? We decided to eat elsewhere on our third evening.

Visited for breakfast, dog friendly table at window which was ideal as was nervous of the seagulls near the outside seating. Breakfast items were good quality, especially bacon and sausage (Callghans Butchers think it said) all very much enjoyed. Only feedback would be the tiny toilet that is a challenge to move around in as it is so narrow and small this won't be accessible for all.

On Saturday it was our last night at Loch Lomond and wanted to eat somewhere that offered a range of fish. That meant we booked a table a Duck Bay as nowhere else offers as much choice of fish as they do in the locality. Having spent a week at Loch Lomond every year for the past 25 we have eaten countless times at Duck Bay and have yet to be disappointed. Saturday night was no exception, fabulous food and impeccable service. I had the Tuscan fish stew and my wife had salmon . Both dishes were beautifully presented and delicious. I am coeliac ( gluten free) and the list of different dishes available on the gluten free menu is very impressive and is an example to others in the catering industry. Well done Duck Bay !
