I hope this small criticism is taken positively. I'll start with the good - the two young staff were friendly and very helpful. Where they lack is: 3 of our 5 meals were incorrect, which to their credit they quickly sorted. When the meals were returned, no one at any time came back to ask if all was correct and OK, which it was not. All the chips were look-warm, and the fish was obviously on a mild hotplate too long which was not pleasant. I did try to get the attention of a member of staff, which was not easy as the two young staff were run off their feet by other guests. The sticky toffee pudding was obviously microwaved, as the bowl was burning and the cake was hard on the bottom and dry on top. The drinks were correct. All in all the genuine politeness of the two young staff made up for the small errors, and my wife and I shall return.

We used to absolutely love the coylett and come up every time we are at our holiday home. However the last time we were there wasn’t great. It wasn’t awful, but just not great especially considering the prices have been raised so much recently. This time however has put us off ever going back. The menu was a choice of three mains (a Sunday) and that was it. Roast sirloin with savoy cabbage and yorkie etc, vegetarian haggis or fish and chips. Very strange that this was all they had on offer when hey used to have a varied and delicious menu with eg steak pie and burgers. Anyway, my husband and I chose the roast sirloin. Between 30-40 minutes later the food came out so we expected it to be fresh. The roast was extremely undercooked. We love medium rare, but it appeared to have eaten my savoy cabbage off the plate also as that wasn’t there. The meat was actually cold as though it had been served out on a plate and sat under a hot plate for some time. Eating cold, pink, jelly like meat was not acceptable for £18.50 each so we sent the food back. The waitress wasn’t even apologetic just asking if we wanted something else. Our bill ended up being £17.50 with neither myself or husband having anything to eat!! £10 for a children’s chicken nuggets and chips (?!) £3.50 for a Coke, £2.50 for a can of soft and £1.50 for a kids milk. The biggest waste of money when we left feeling hungry, irritable and so disappointed with a place we once loved. It made us think whoever was on wasn’t a qualified chef, as there’s no way that meat had a thermometer anywhere near it for serving guidelines, and the limited menu was also extremely strange. Such a shame.

The rapport with the staff was superb, a mixture of 21st century sassy Scottish humor and good old fashioned Scottish hospitality. The locat of the Inn on the banks of Loch Eck is superb, with awesome views over the Loch, just yards away as shown in the photos. All in a most excellent meal and a show case of Scottish hospitality to our English guests. Thank you!

Where to begin?!?! We were welcomed to the Coylet by Ben(?), a young lad full of enthusiasm and more than happy to help in any way he could. Offering to help with bags and making sure we were checked in, he then turned his attention to sorting out the paddle board hire we had booked for the afternoon! By the time we had changed into wetsuits Ben was already planning the hot drinks he thought we would need when we returned. The owner of the establishment, Carl, very kindly inflated our own paddle board alongside the one we had hired and carried them over to the lochside, ready for us to use. After a couple of hours splashing about on the loch we decided to head back to the Inn for a couple of well earned pints of Coylet Inn Lager. Thanks to the wetsuits there was no real need for the hot drinks Ben had planned and the Lager is really good! Carl very kindly allowed us to store our board inflated alongside the hire one so that we could use them again the following morning. After the much enjoyed lager it was time to head to our room to get ready for dinner. Please bear in mind that this building is over 400 years old, the stair to access the rooms is very steep and narrow and the rooms are cosy but that's exactly what we expected and were hoping for. The views over Loch Eck are incredible and if you are lucky enough to stay in the same room as us, By Eck (that's the room name), even the massive bath tub (accommodates 2 comfortably) has an awesome view of the loch which you can enjoy while you soak. The bed was really comfy and the room was warm without being uncomfortable, it was pretty much perfect for us. Next up was dinner and a very nice young lady Ruby(?) who was also very nice, enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the menu. I had the mackerel starter, my girlfriend had the scallops and we both had Sirloin steak for our mains. Everything was delectable and I could have sat there all night savouring every mouthful. Dessert was one honeycomb cheesecake and one Affogato. Both of which rounded off an amazing dining experience. After dinner there was plenty of chat and drinks flowing in the bar before we retired to bed for a really good night's sleep. I can't rate the Coylet Inn highly enough, 5 stars doesn't do our experience justice! Everything from start to finish was exceptional, especially the service and the staff members, we simply didn't want to leave.

We were greeted by a friendly and polite guy. We got seated. A lovely view of the loch. We ordered and I noticed the salad was a bit strange for me it had green beans in, not much onion tomato anyway the prawn salad(?) was ok. I was going to order the rib eye (@£27.50!)but they only had sirloin so I ordered a medium rare. My partner ordered the venison burger (dont😒) to cut a long story short. I ordered mash, got chips! I ordered medium got rare (sent back), burger was dry and tasteless, too many chips and what's with the salad now we have bits of asparagus? Steak was taking ages when it came I sent it back again and then I asked for the bill. The meal was terrible. The waiter was great, the manager I thought did not look like a manager, the owner was having he food in the bar I think eating fish and chips (the restaurant was not that busy🍴🤔) the chef(we found out was a vegetarian and the meat was terribly cooked 🤔. The waiter had taken off the wine, but still charged £27.50 for the sirloin!! I questioned him and he said that is what the owner had told him. So if you don't think I've been fair please check out yourselves I would rather go up the road to the Craggen.

I phoned last year to try to book a meal for 15 people to cater for a small wedding. I spoke on phone to Carl who was very helpful and advised they could do this and that he will get back to us with options and prices. When we tried to book or follow up I was ignored on multiple occasions or told the managers have received my emails and will respond - they never did. The problem was that there’s not a lot of options for catering local to where we were getting married. Eventually we decided to get married elsewhere. I’m sure the place is lovely and has great food. However, I believe that you should just be upfront and say no if you can’t/don’t want to provide a service, it saves the customer a lot of time…

Lovely bar area, nice fireplace, staff are friendly. We agreed with (assumed) the manager at 4:15pm, informed they wouldnt serve food untill 5pm. Had booked and paid for plans in the evening after, so wanted to eat promptly, manager said no problem, pre-order at 4:55pm, food at 5:15pm. More of our larger group came later. Long story short, the original group were no longer allowed to order from the main menu and only offered the kids menu as there were supposedly so many of us, other (assumed) local guests who had reserved ahead had priority. Waiter effectively was stalling and serving other guests first, saying he would bring menu ,and then disappear for another 20 minutes. due to our tight schedule we left at 5:50pm as it was clear he had no intention to take the order, again despite being promised and trying to order food at 4:55pm. If you don't have enough food to serve, fair enough. Don't tell customers you can, make them wait and order drinks and nibbles, then renege and stall, be upfront and honest.

Location : Amazing Parking : Plenty for venue size Bar : Well stocked Staff : Friendly and Attentive Food : Disappointing Offerings : Water activities (not used by us) Will be back for mid road trip drinks but not food, would recommend for drinks only. Review: Popped in for the toilet on the way to pucks glen, staff were very friendly, accommodating and informative when asked about the restaurant and area. Went back on the travel home for dinner. Again friendly and accommodating wait staff but disappointed in the food quality and portions. Kids potion of bangers and mash consisted of 4 small "wee willy winkie" sausages, a portion of mash, a portion of veg made up of a strange blend of cabbage and cucumber and a portion of gravy. When mentioned to the wait staff about the kids meal it was agreed that this wasn't an acceptable meal for the price, an apology was given and a second portion(4) of the same sausages was presented. The "tapas" style starters could only be described as freezer food, which could have quite easily been made at home. When mentioned to the manager at that the meal was disappointing and that the "bangers and mash" was not up to the expectations of banger and mash, there was a back and forth about how it was a kids meal and that there was a second portion received. These comments from the manager didn't take into consideration that the second portion was only received after a complaint about the standards was made and that at cheaper restaurants a kids banger and mash would consist of a proportonate amount of normal sized sausages. As a result there was a discount of 10% taken off the bill amounting to nearly £50. I do feel this discount wasn't enough and hope that comment made about the standards of food were heard and can be acted upon. As a whole the service was good but as stated the food was a disappointment.

Food was good that we received but a number of the steaks weren’t available but weren’t informed of this before hand and after asking for a tomahawk and then a T-Bone I had to settle for a Rib eye (Can’t fault this as it was lovely) my Partners Bruschetta was quite basic. The Tapas food was very tasty and enjoyed. The table next to us asked what the sea food special starter was and they were also informed it wasn’t available. All in all the food received was good but better communication on what isn’t available when you arrive could be better.

The website enticed us with pictures of fresh langoustines, but were not on the menu. We opted for the ‘tapas’ which consisted of calamari, prawn, chicken, haloumi and mozzarella. When served it appeared as a beige buffet in Indian style curry dishes. It was clearly a frozen party starter selection all deep fried together. The mozzarella had been fried so much that there was no cheese left inside the hollow breadcrumbs. There was not a shred of garnish, slice of lemon or pot of coleslaw. We have genuinely never experienced worse food in a restaurant. It really was an Iceland frozen selection. The waiting staff were kind and helpful, but it is clear why this restaurant is so empty on a Saturday afternoon. Such a shame as has a lovely loch view.

Some background: I was a much younger man, a US Navy Submariner. Our "Gold" Crew would fly to Glasgow and bus to Greenock to relieve the "Blue" Crew and take over operating the USS Alexander Hamilton SSBN 617 moored alongside a submarine tender off Greenock. So; after one particulary long day, I ventured to Coylet Inn on the advice of a friendly taxi driver whose name I wish I did not forget. The owners were named, George and Dorothy Addis. I stayed over night in a comfortable room and overslept their gracious wake up call, but made it back to Hamilton, nonetheless. The evening before, I ate a very nice diinner of fresh fish (trout?) which was caught but a few hours earlier in Loch Eck, situated across the street (A815). The finest thing about dinner was to watch greens being picked out of a nearby garden: at the time of picking, I did not know it was for my table! Fresh fish, fresh vegetable salad, excellent wine, and the wonderfully friendly and inviting personalities from George and Dorothy. This is many years ago and still holds a fondness in memory, particualry at evening's end when the friendly noisy singing had to end at bar's closing, though still elbow to elbow with people. A moment later, lights were turned way down, silence was enforced by many people shussing as a Constable's powerful spotlight shown through the shuttered windows and then disappeared. A more quiet revelry resumed, friendliness was unabated, whilst a moment or two later, through the back door entered the Constable whose bright spot light had previously lighted up some of the bar. - I had finished eating and moved to the bar. He removed his checker-banded hat, then sat down, right next to a startled and nervous me and ordered, "My usual, Pet. And give my friend here what ever pleases." His phrasing - unforgettable. Thank you George and Dorothy, and Constable, and those other fun people whose names are unknown, but whose affect is ever glowing.

Fantastic place to stay. My wife and I stayed in the Two Deer room with our dog for one night. Great size and amazing views. Very comfy bed and large walk in shower. Our dog loved it and was very happy. We are in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast, both meals delicious. Breakfast was one of the best we have had. Can’t wait to go back!

This place was brilliant, we managed to get a room (the little lodge cabin thing) last minute (we had an issue with the place we booked on air bnb). The staff at the coylett were incredibly accomodating and nice. We also had tea there that night and the food was incredible i had a salt and chilli chicken burger which was the nicest burger ive ever had.

We found this beautiful Inn on the park 4 night app, having a campervan we contacted to see if we could park overnight and also stay for a meal and few drinks. From the first contact we were made so very welcome. When we arrived we went into the bar area, it’s a lovely cosy area, great selection of drinks, beers etc. The staff were superb very friendly and welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you. We had dinner in restaurant again lovely setting and husband opted for the 32 ounce TBone it was cooked to perfection. The deserts wow - the red velvet cheesecake was one of the best I’ve had. If your in this beautiful area of Dunoon please stop in you won’t be disappointed we will definitely be back.

Waited several minutes to be welcomed in reception, when we asked in bar we were told to wait in reception and somebody would come - they did Eventually! Menu mainly burgers, sausages, pie, curry etc Very limited Scottish influence. That said, food was good and waiting staff were very friendly and attentive!

We have eaten here on many occasions and the food has been decent. However it has gone seriously downhill and after last night, we will not be coming back. We took friends who were visiting from the south of England and we were embarrassed at the appalling food. Two of us had the vegetable curry which was inedible and we had to send back. Our waitress was lovely and discounted the bill but we had to go home to eat. I have honestly never had such awful food. The curry(?) sauce tasted like sweet chutney and the vegetables consisted mainly of huge chunks of undercooked carrot with a few broccoli stalks, baby corn(?) and a slice of courgette. The rice was boil in the bag. The rest of the party had scampi and chips which they said was dry and mediocre. Very disappointing. The Coylet Inn is a lovely spot with glorious views - such a shame that the food is so bad.

Can't recommend it highly enough. The highlight of our trip to Scotland. We liked it so much we booked a 2nd night. Took a double kayak for a stunning paddle on the loch. Mountain biking nearby. Ate in the restaurant twice, fab cocktails, menu choice but the outstanding venison special on 2nd night is something we'll remember for a long time. Locally caught, tenderly prepared and cooked along with veg and mustard mash. Wow. Thanks to all the team Fiona, Alicia, Kerry, Martin who were brilliant and made us so welcome and of course Carl and Sandra for running a premises with such care and attention to detail, clearly years of experience. Our dog Dougal loved it too and was made equally welcome! Perfect location for exploring this beautiful area of Scotland. We will be back. Ged and Georgia.

Visited for breakfast, dog friendly table at window which was ideal as was nervous of the seagulls near the outside seating. Breakfast items were good quality, especially bacon and sausage (Callghans Butchers think it said) all very much enjoyed. Only feedback would be the tiny toilet that is a challenge to move around in as it is so narrow and small this won't be accessible for all.

On Saturday it was our last night at Loch Lomond and wanted to eat somewhere that offered a range of fish. That meant we booked a table a Duck Bay as nowhere else offers as much choice of fish as they do in the locality. Having spent a week at Loch Lomond every year for the past 25 we have eaten countless times at Duck Bay and have yet to be disappointed. Saturday night was no exception, fabulous food and impeccable service. I had the Tuscan fish stew and my wife had salmon . Both dishes were beautifully presented and delicious. I am coeliac ( gluten free) and the list of different dishes available on the gluten free menu is very impressive and is an example to others in the catering industry. Well done Duck Bay !
