Came for the first time over the weekend. The café was relatively busy, but we were accommodated with no issues. Staff were attentive and food arrived promptly. I was very impressed with the peppermint tea, which was loose-leaf and the teapot filled three cups! The paninis were well-filled and the member of our party who ordered a full English commented on the high-quality produce. The price was fair for the quantity and quality. Great little spot, we will be back!

Went for lunch. The cafe was busy but managed to get a table for 3 of us. Lovely views infront of the glass floor to ceiling windows of the surrounding area. Prices are quite high, however this outweighed by the quality and selection of the food. I had quiche of the day which came with a plate full off salad and pasta with a door wedge size of quiche. Well worth the money! Good selection of drinks available with a promot service. The selection of cakes are definitely tempting as well. Will definitely pay another visit l.

Love it here! Have been many times over the past couple of years, but hadn't been lately. Was really looking forward to coming back, and wasn't disappointed. The table service that was introduced due to Covid is now no longer in place, so you head to the counter inside to order. Our food came so quickly, and it was all beautiful! Coffees were lovely too. All the staff are really friendly and smiley, which always makes the visit even more worth it. Parking immediately outside, or on the top road/larger carpark, so plenty of spaces. Would recommend the Cowshed to anyone - perfect pit stop whilst walking in the area and a lovely place for a coffee with friends 😊

This is a great little place to visit. Not the cheapest for food but the quality of the breakfast really justified the cost. The Farmers Breakfast had very good quality sauage and bacon and even the Vegetarian Breakfast contained quality items including the halloumi. Coffee lovers will be pleased to know your going to get a premium quality smooth pour. The Coffee beans are fresh and roasted locally in Giltbrook, this offering a unique blend specially created for The Cowshed. On another note, staff were fantastic, so friendly, proactive when getting tables cleared, but nice and chatty which offered a welcoming experience. We'll be back 👍

11.00am on Wednesday, would be a quiet time to have brunch. None of it, we even had to queue for the car park. So busy there was only one table which was shared with a couple of walkers and their dog. I don't think I need to say anything else as the numbers reflect the high standard of every aspect of the venue.

Visited on Sunday for a breakfast cob. Enjoyed the experience, nice sausages the only real negative was the bread roll which was THE very most basic available to buy in the UK! For the price I paid I expected a better quality bread roll! I really wouldn't recommend the breakfast cob due to such poor quality cob.

Sorry guys, but until the service improves substantially and the table spacing improves we will not be back!! Food is fine. Services is very poor - firstly there is normally a long wait to have orders taken (15-20 mins), then normally a much longer wait to receive the food/drinks. Table spacing is abysmal (especially in the conservatory area overlooking the garden). We were given a table recently where it was impossible to walk between the tables on either side. On one side we were literally 2-3cm from the next table! When I go for a quiet lunch with my wife I don’t expect to be sat at table for 6 with complete strangers on either side - because that’s exactly how it felt! Why cram the tables so close together and give diners a very unpleasant experience? (especially when you clearly haven’t got the kitchen resources to deliver the food more quickly) We have been at least 5 times over the last 2-3 years, hoping each time for an improvement and being disappointed. Have you ever thought of changing the service model? ie put more people in the kitchen to speed up the food delivery, let customers order at the counter which should require fewer people serving - AND cram fewer tables into the space!

Our latest edition of breakfast club took us to the winding roads of Dale Abbey into the Cow Shed. I admittedly woke up late for this week but I had been on nights and didn’t get let go until 7am. Nonetheless I still congregated with the gang in time for my scrambled eggs with beans on toast and what a portion size I must add! It was enough to feed a family of four! On a personal note my breakfast was Bob on! When I arrived at the establishment I couldn’t help but notice the serious lack of cows which I was slightly disappointed about as I had built myself up to see cows galore! Also to note a serious lack of sheds although there was a nice little greenhouse that I took note of. My colleagues all enjoyed their breakfast and the service was tremendous, a downside would be is that it is slightly on the pricey side, I was debating to take out a wonga loan before visiting. The only other downside was the lack of space inside, I was hoping to swing my cat in there but soon had to knock that idea on the head, also the parking was a tad tight. All in all a solid breakfast with a bit of a price tag! You dons!

Food is amazing. One of the best paninis I've had. And very nice coleslaw on the side. The ice cream is also very good. The kids menu is a bit on the expensive side for what it is. The staff and service are great. The location is nice as it's set back from the road. The only downside on atmosphere is if the wind is in a certain direction you can smell some septic waste. I don't know if it's from on site or a neighbour. But if they can deal with that it will include the dining experience outdoors considerably!

I had a Bacon Roll (cob) with hash browns, a culinary classic. It was great, but it was also £8. Yes, the view is nice, but the same dish (of equal quality and with more bacon) is literally half the price in nearby Spondon. Aside from the premium pricing this is a pleasant experience. Popped in for a breakfast as I have done before. Usually a pleasant experience but this time not as much. I thought the sausages on my farmers breakfast, though cooked through, lacked the colour you'd get in a grill ...with a thin line of pan fried brown on on 4 sides. The bacon was pink and limp and again lacked time in the pan. The fried eggs were raw and gelatinous on the top. Only the beans were hot. And finally ...as I started my toast the final straw was a hair on it ...not mine!! Now I'm not a fussy man and will often accept a bad element to a meal as acceptable ...but not 3/4 of it ... Now I don't like to make a fuss so I quietly called over the helpful server and pointed it out...she took the toast back and merely asked if I'd like another slice! At no point did anyone come and ask if my breakfast was ok and I certainly did not have a concerned manager/owner come and talk about my experience! The eating area was filling up so I didn't want to complain aloud since this was my experience and not the other customer's...however some quiet words would have been valued and enough. This isn't a cheap place to eat and although they often seem to be busy here they should not take for granted their customers. I may come back in the future but I do drive past other cheaper places to get here! Al

I came here for brunch on the 19th of April with my mum and sister to celebrate mum's Birthday. The service was poor and both my mum and sisters food orders were wrong when they arrived. I had ordered the big breakfast, specifically with no beans and extra mushrooms. When my food arrived I found stray beans hidden beneath other food items that I had to pick off the plate myself, accompanied by remnant baked bean sauce that had been clumsily smeared across plate in a half-arsed attempt to rectify an obvious mistake during plating up. Somebody in the kitchen had clearly put beans on the plate, and then after realising what they had done wrong, had then attempted to cover up their error by scraping them off before continuing to plate up the meal as normal. Why not just get a clean plate? Do you think I'm not going to notice, or something? I'm a paying customer, I'm here for some good food, heaven knows it's not cheap and I'm trying to have a nice time with my mum on her Birthday, and you can't even be bothered to get my order right or at least acknowledge your mistake and fix it properly instead of taking the customer for a fool? Anyway, I'd like to be able to say that the rest of the food was good, but the sausages were so anaemic that I had to cut one open to make sure I wasn't going to contract trichinosis, and yet somehow at the same time, the bacon had been overcooked (but was no longer warm), and had dried out to the point that it had become tough like jerky. Truly a marvel of culinary prowess to have simultaneously both undercooked and overcooked different food items on the same plate. I had four measly, shrivelled mushrooms which were cold and stale, so in a way I was actually thankful that they had forgotten to give me extra as per my request. The meal was accompanied by a few slices sourdough toast which was overcooked and sharp enough to skin an animal with, and there wasn't enough butter provided to coat all of the slices. It's a tad ironic that butter is in such short supply when you're called The Cowshed, especially when I'm paying top dollar for the most expensive breakfast item on the menu. Why so stingy? A staff member conducted a very rushed check-back, and didn't hang around long enough for me to respond to her. By the time I turned my head to look at her she was already long gone and I was unable to raise any of the issues with her, which was frustrating. My mum and sister were both clearly disappointed with their food which made me sad, as we had been looking forward to coming here for a couple of weeks prior to our visit. Really disappointing. It's probably worth noting that we had been before a year ago and had enjoyed a nice time. Sadly I don't think we will be returning. Things have clearly gone downhill, which is such a shame. It's a great location, but that will only get you so far when your food and service are subpar. I hope whoever in charge reads this and takes this to heart, and I hope that you understand that unless you wish to fail it's imperative that nobody should care more about the quality of your business practices than you, least not the customer.

Cowshed Dale Abbey is a place that our group of 5 cyclists frequently visits for a delicious breakfast and a refreshing cup of coffee. However, our recent experience was far from pleasant. Upon arrival, we were greeted by an unwelcoming lady who was cleaning the outside tables. She instructed us to wait inside and informed us that the breakfast service would not begin until 9:30 am. Normally, we arrive a bit earlier and are offered a drink while we wait. Unfortunately, this time was different. We sat patiently, hoping to be acknowledged, but eventually had to ask if we could order a drink. To our surprise, we received a snotty response, "I'll make you a coffee after I've made my own." At that point, we had reached our limit and decided to leave. Furthermore, the food at Cowshed Dale Abbey is overpriced considering the quality and portion size. All in all, it was a disappointing experience, and we have no plans to return.

I'm sure they're making enough profit on a £3.30 coffee to swallow the slight difference in price between cow's milk and its alternatives. I for one, out of principle don't support businesses that take advantage of vegans (and people with dairy allergies for that matter, in this case), so I didn't order anything. The water was quite nice and it was good to see the vegan cake offering was the same price (£3.95), though I don't know if the portion sizes are the same - it was a bit hard to see the slices on the Biscoff cake.

I’d chosen the Cowshed for our regular meet up with friends as I’d been before and was very impressed. However, I’ll not bother again! The baked potato skin was so hard it was impossible to cut through. Admittedly when our plates were collected and the server was told, I was given the option of having a free cake. Unfortunately the texture of the cake was stale, it didn’t taste of lemon and the whole experience was poor! With so many other very good establishments around, I will not be returning.

What a fab place for lunch. Obviously, they can be very busy. Fortunately we went for a late lunch around 1:30-1:45 and got seated in the conservatory which had a nice view out into the garden and included a big heater to keep the place warm. The staff were lovely and very helpful giving clear guidance on how to order and what's on the menu. The decaf tea was well presented, a good quantity and hot. The quiche meals were of very generous portions, with a good measure of mixed salad. There was a wide selection of cakes. The cornflake tart caught my eye and when it came it was a generous portion. I can recommend it! We moved into the main seating area after a short time as it was quite cool in the conservatory for us. The big heater couldn’t quite cope with the outside sliding doors opening for customers coming and going. The main seating area was a better area to sit, and was a good bit warmer. It was good to see the staff set to cleaning the tables and floors after customers had left. There are a couple of toilets on the ground floor, both clean and tidy with good facilities. The couple of things that would have made our experience even better was. 1. Fix the sliding outside door and stop it being left open or sliding open. On a cold day it is noticeable. 2. Both of our quiche meals were only just warm. They would have been much nicer a lot hotter. Overall, the staff were excellent, the food very good and the place was clean and tidy. Prices were a little more then we would have paid else where. There appears to be two car parks. We parked in the one off the main road and ended walking along it just around the corner to find the closer carpark and the entrance. We will definitely go again, perhaps when the weather improves or ask for a seat inside the main café.

Not great to be given a table in a condensation filled conservatory against a door that was constantly being left open on a cold day, drinks and food brought out for everyone at the table at different times and £5 for a toasted teacake is an absolute joke. Don’t bother.

Great pub, well kept beers, and always a decent guest beer to compliment the usual offerings from Lincoln green

Definitely the best breakfast around! I nipped in on the weekend for a full breakfast and I took few cakes away for my family. Soooo good. I was there with my young nephew so sat in the family room and he loved drawing on the chalkboard.. I love the fact there is a room just for adult and older children… working with kids a lot, I definitely appreciate the quieter area!

Absolutely love this Pub. Always make me feel really welcome Jacko and all of his staff are brilliant with myself and all the family. Love all the events they put on and how they've bought a real community feel back to the area.
