Lovely location with views of the cow fields. It is out off the beaten track but worth the visit for the tranquillity of the location. Very friendly staff and good service. The food was very good especially the cake. Love the tea timers to get the perfect brew from proper tea leaves. The interior is rustic but not rough but well done. Breakfasts are super too. Update: pannini bread is amazing

Was very impressed with this cafe. It was my first time visiting. With outdoor and inside seating, it is perfect anytime of the year. The food was excellent as was the service. I also bought a loaf of sourbread which tasted lovely & fresh. Although not in a town, it is definitely worth the drive out in the lovely countryside. Would recommend 100%.

Our latest edition of breakfast club took us to the winding roads of Dale Abbey into the Cow Shed. I admittedly woke up late for this week but I had been on nights and didn’t get let go until 7am. Nonetheless I still congregated with the gang in time for my scrambled eggs with beans on toast and what a portion size I must add! It was enough to feed a family of four! On a personal note my breakfast was Bob on! When I arrived at the establishment I couldn’t help but notice the serious lack of cows which I was slightly disappointed about as I had built myself up to see cows galore! Also to note a serious lack of sheds although there was a nice little greenhouse that I took note of. My colleagues all enjoyed their breakfast and the service was tremendous, a downside would be is that it is slightly on the pricey side, I was debating to take out a wonga loan before visiting. The only other downside was the lack of space inside, I was hoping to swing my cat in there but soon had to knock that idea on the head, also the parking was a tad tight. All in all a solid breakfast with a bit of a price tag! You dons!

Food is amazing. One of the best paninis I've had. And very nice coleslaw on the side. The ice cream is also very good. The kids menu is a bit on the expensive side for what it is. The staff and service are great. The location is nice as it's set back from the road. The only downside on atmosphere is if the wind is in a certain direction you can smell some septic waste. I don't know if it's from on site or a neighbour. But if they can deal with that it will include the dining experience outdoors considerably!

I had a Bacon Roll (cob) with hash browns, a culinary classic. It was great, but it was also £8. Yes, the view is nice, but the same dish (of equal quality and with more bacon) is literally half the price in nearby Spondon. Aside from the premium pricing this is a pleasant experience. Update 12 months later. Still pleasant, still pricey.

Popped in for a breakfast as I have done before. Usually a pleasant experience but this time not as much. I thought the sausages on my farmers breakfast, though cooked through, lacked the colour you'd get in a grill ...with a thin line of pan fried brown on on 4 sides. The bacon was pink and limp and again lacked time in the pan. The fried eggs were raw and gelatinous on the top. Only the beans were hot. And finally ...as I started my toast the final straw was a hair on it ...not mine!! Now I'm not a fussy man and will often accept a bad element to a meal as acceptable ...but not 3/4 of it ... Now I don't like to make a fuss so I quietly called over the helpful server and pointed it out...she took the toast back and merely asked if I'd like another slice! At no point did anyone come and ask if my breakfast was ok and I certainly did not have a concerned manager/owner come and talk about my experience! The eating area was filling up so I didn't want to complain aloud since this was my experience and not the other customer's...however some quiet words would have been valued and enough. This isn't a cheap place to eat and although they often seem to be busy here they should not take for granted their customers. I may come back in the future but I do drive past other cheaper places to get here! Al

A really lovely experience, again, on all counts. Despite being really busy due to the bank holiday, the customer service was exemplary, and the food was freshly cooked and delicious. There was a little time to wait for food, as you would expect at a busy time but the drinks were bought swiftly, and no-one minded sipping a beverage in such great surroundings, chatting to friends. I came here for brunch on the 19th of April with my mum and sister to celebrate mum's Birthday. The service was poor and both my mum and sisters food orders were wrong when they arrived. I had ordered the big breakfast, specifically with no beans and extra mushrooms. When my food arrived I found stray beans hidden beneath other food items that I had to pick off the plate myself, accompanied by remnant baked bean sauce that had been clumsily smeared across plate in a half-arsed attempt to rectify an obvious mistake during plating up. Somebody in the kitchen had clearly put beans on the plate, and then after realising what they had done wrong, had then attempted to cover up their error by scraping them off before continuing to plate up the meal as normal. Why not just get a clean plate? Do you think I'm not going to notice, or something? I'm a paying customer, I'm here for some good food, heaven knows it's not cheap and I'm trying to have a nice time with my mum on her Birthday, and you can't even be bothered to get my order right or at least acknowledge your mistake and fix it properly instead of taking the customer for a fool? Anyway, I'd like to be able to say that the rest of the food was good, but the sausages were so anaemic that I had to cut one open to make sure I wasn't going to contract trichinosis, and yet somehow at the same time, the bacon had been overcooked (but was no longer warm), and had dried out to the point that it had become tough like jerky. Truly a marvel of culinary prowess to have simultaneously both undercooked and overcooked different food items on the same plate. I had four measly, shrivelled mushrooms which were cold and stale, so in a way I was actually thankful that they had forgotten to give me extra as per my request. The meal was accompanied by a few slices sourdough toast which was overcooked and sharp enough to skin an animal with, and there wasn't enough butter provided to coat all of the slices. It's a tad ironic that butter is in such short supply when you're called The Cowshed, especially when I'm paying top dollar for the most expensive breakfast item on the menu. Why so stingy? A staff member conducted a very rushed check-back, and didn't hang around long enough for me to respond to her. By the time I turned my head to look at her she was already long gone and I was unable to raise any of the issues with her, which was frustrating. My mum and sister were both clearly disappointed with their food which made me sad, as we had been looking forward to coming here for a couple of weeks prior to our visit. Really disappointing. It's probably worth noting that we had been before a year ago and had enjoyed a nice time. Sadly I don't think we will be returning. Things have clearly gone downhill, which is such a shame. It's a great location, but that will only get you so far when your food and service are subpar. I hope whoever in charge reads this and takes this to heart, and I hope that you understand that unless you wish to fail it's imperative that nobody should care more about the quality of your business practices than you, least not the customer.

Cowshed Dale Abbey is a place that our group of 5 cyclists frequently visits for a delicious breakfast and a refreshing cup of coffee. However, our recent experience was far from pleasant. Upon arrival, we were greeted by an unwelcoming lady who was cleaning the outside tables. She instructed us to wait inside and informed us that the breakfast service would not begin until 9:30 am. Normally, we arrive a bit earlier and are offered a drink while we wait. Unfortunately, this time was different. We sat patiently, hoping to be acknowledged, but eventually had to ask if we could order a drink. To our surprise, we received a snotty response, "I'll make you a coffee after I've made my own." At that point, we had reached our limit and decided to leave. Furthermore, the food at Cowshed Dale Abbey is overpriced considering the quality and portion size. All in all, it was a disappointing experience, and we have no plans to return.

We eat virtually every Sat morning on our bike trip and as a rule we love it there even though it’s not the cheapest ! Ok so we arrived a littler earlier but the atmosphere was frosty and unprofessional I’m sorry to say I will knot be coming back as one of our party left one of the genuinely said I hope will see you again the Co owner said not bothered if they come back ever again! I can't comment on the food, as there wasn't anything that stood out to me but what did stand out to me was that there is a £1 charge for non dairy milk (that's the highest surcharge I've seen). I'm sure they're making enough profit on a £3.30 coffee to swallow the slight difference in price between cow's milk and its alternatives. I for one, out of principle don't support businesses that take advantage of vegans (and people with dairy allergies for that matter, in this case), so I didn't order anything. The water was quite nice and it was good to see the vegan cake offering was the same price (£3.95), though I don't know if the portion sizes are the same - it was a bit hard to see the slices on the Biscoff cake.

The baked potato skin was so hard it was impossible to cut through. Admittedly when our plates were collected and the server was told, I was given the option of having a free cake. What a fab place for lunch. Obviously, they can be very busy. Fortunately we went for a late lunch around 1:30-1:45 and got seated in the conservatory which had a nice view out into the garden and included a big heater to keep the place warm. The staff were lovely and very helpful giving clear guidance on how to order and what's on the menu. The decaf tea was well presented, a good quantity and hot. The quiche meals were of very generous portions, with a good measure of mixed salad. There was a wide selection of cakes. The cornflake tart caught my eye and when it came it was a generous portion. I can recommend it! We moved into the main seating area after a short time as it was quite cool in the conservatory for us. The big heater couldn’t quite cope with the outside sliding doors opening for customers coming and going. The main seating area was a better area to sit, and was a good bit warmer. It was good to see the staff set to cleaning the tables and floors after customers had left. There are a couple of toilets on the ground floor, both clean and tidy with good facilities. The couple of things that would have made our experience even better was. 1. Fix the sliding outside door and stop it being left open or sliding open. On a cold day it is noticeable. 2. Both of our quiche meals were only just warm. They would have been much nicer a lot hotter. Overall, the staff were excellent, the food very good and the place was clean and tidy. Prices were a little more then we would have paid else where. There appears to be two car parks. We parked in the one off the main road and ended walking along it just around the corner to find the closer carpark and the entrance. We will definitely go again, perhaps when the weather improves or ask for a seat inside the main café.

Have visited a few times before but think todays lunch was the most yummy! Very accommodating for dietary requirements. I am coeliac and vegetarian, it was so nice not to feel different or a burden to anyone. I had a GF panini with the Mexican filling, but there wasn't an issue swapping the chicken for halloumi - because everything is made to order. My cappuccino also came with a GF biscuit!! My son had the above but on a jacket potato, I will certainly be having that next time - I had food envy! Poached eggs on the Farmers Breakfast were done to perfection also. It was very busy on arrival, but food arrived quickly considering how busy they were. It is a little on the expensive side, but I feel it was worth it and was very filling too. Lovely setting and staff are fantastic. Would highly recommend. Looking forward to returning.

Food and drink was above average, however, staff attitude to paying customers was appalling, so much so that we will not be visiting again! We have been customers at the Cowshed since they first opened but unfortunately their success has drastically affected the attitude of the staff, who today reached an all time low. Hopefully, the Cowshed management will realise that their success is a result of paying customers and failure to realise this will cost them in the long run. So sad to be writing this review.

Excellent awareness of GF Coelic. Delicious GF cake. Lovely latte made with no fear of cross contamination as staff were knowledgeable.

Went to the Halloween Tales evening on Saturday 28th Oct . Really enjoyed the event but did think the “tales” presented by the Woolly Tellers could have been more Halloween themed than they were . Very Nottingham oriented tales , I’d have liked more on the history and tales of Halloween from around the world to be honest . Nonetheless a great evening and the food was okay too .

Owner writes extremely unprofessional and childish posts to bring down other small businesses, also refuses to let paying customers use the Wi-Fi even though they have 0 signal, god forbid there was a personal emergency.

Party of 12 , alarm bells rang when the waiter said we will only take starter orders for now as to not overwhelm the kitchen , of the 7 who had starters ,1 had to wait 20 minutes for theirs to arrive. On to the mains, 3 burgers were undercooked (pink) and then took a further 40 mins for the replacement burgers to arrive , although a free drink was given to the 3 members who had the issue , nothing was taken off the final bill which was very overpriced with regards to quantity and quality

Booked a table in advance as knew it got pretty busy. Arrived to so much noise/chatter within that I thought my ears would burst! Dining area a little quieter thankfully. They appeared very understaffed and service took a lot longer than usual for a pub meal. Food was very mediocre, microwaved to within an inch of it's life and pretty tasteless. I will be trying a different venue next time so cannot recommend.
