After a goos expereince here in the summer, unfortunately today's visit was poor. Despite my companion having obvious mobility issues and using crutches, the two members of staff stayed behind the counter until spsoke to. It was not busy, and we had missed lunch by five minutes, so we ordered coffee and cakes. The cake slices differed in size by a large margin, and neither was generous. The black coffee tasted very bitter and was not good, and in hindsight, we should of asked for another. What really let the cafe down was the disinterested young man running the business. No greeting or goodbye and everything was hard work.

The food and most of the waiters were fine if a little unsmiley. I imagine that might be because of the blonde lady who seemed to be in charge and is the rudest unhelpful person I have met in a cafe whose sole purpose is to provide a good experience. I would rather get a drink and one of the lovely snacks out of the farm shop where they are lovely and friendly and charge half the price. Shame as the venue is lovely and deserves better.

What a lovely place! It was very attractive and quiet yet full of people having lunch. The service is excellent and friendly and so was the food, with a much more interesting menu than many places and really fresh. It was so good we went back later for tea and cake which was again top quality.

Change of ownership from English to Italian. No charm or friendliness for the staff Restrictions abound at lunchtime and is confusing with some ‘cans’ and other ‘cannots on a 12pm deadline. A prominent board basically makes you feel guilty if you want to pay by cash. I said to my wife if a day’s bank charges were more than a day’s wages for one member of staff then that person was not on high enough pay; my wife said they should do what she did and changed bank. Portion control was poor too. My plate was half filled with the lasagna with a quarter for a small salad and a quarter I touched. It was delicious but I don’t expect a main course to leave me wanting more. We will be in no rush to go back but if we do it will be the afternoon tea. Julian

I visited with a friend for lunch . I found the staff rather unwelcoming and brusque in their manner when I was told it was not possible to order something after 12 md ? The very large notice asking customers to pay cash was rather strange as it stated that the costs to the cafe were more than an employee’s weeks wages for a card payment ??? Very unfriendly and makes it difficult for those customers who don’t have cash. The food was very mediocre. My toasted focaccia was rather dry and not particularly appetizing. Overall not a good experience.

My friend and I regularly met up at what was this lovely cafe for our favourite cheese and onion chutney toasties. My friend is vegan and so it was great to meet up knowing we could both enjoy a lunch and the same toastie was available either standard or vegan .The toastie was always well presented with a few potato crisps and tasty side salad. The last time we visited was a disaster. The vegan option had been pulled from the menu and the only choice was soup & bread for my friend. We were told that a new owner had taken over . He came out and suggested my friend could have Parmesan cheese as that “ turns vegan through age??!!!!” We’ve never heard anything like it. The serving staff are lovely and the waitress apologised and explained that there’s no demand for vegan options and that’s why they had been dropped from the menu. My friend had soup and I had the standard toastie which was not as it used to be without the side crisps and tasty salad. We unfortunately will not be able to meet here any longer and I’m unable to recommend it anymore which is a shame as It was always my first choice when asked for a recommendation. It seems very short sighted to drop vegan options when this diet is becoming more and more popular but also to gain some knowledge of what is and isn’t vegan may help! Unfortunately I can’t recommend this cafe if you’re vegan and sadly standards have certainly dropped since the new owner took over.

Called in for lunch with daughter and son in law , at first glance the cafe looked fine so sat outside in the Sun . Waiter (owner) came to take our order and was charm personified informing us that all food was cooked to order . I ordered a BLT , a fish finger sandwich but my daughter ordered the beef cheeks at a cost of £19 . Our sandwiches arrived okay but the beef cheeks did not we ate our sandwiches and 39 minutes later asked where my daughter’s food was, only to be informed that it had to be cooked fresh . When it did arrive some 45 mins later it was stone cold . Upon complaining to the owner he asked if she wanted it re heated by which time she just wanted to eat. A fresh meal arrived some 15 minutes later half the size of the first meal. My daughter spoke to the owner who I said was charm itself at the ordering of the meal who quickly lost his charm and was quite rude in asking what he was supposed to do about it. Eventually he agreed to refund the cost of the meal . I would suggest that their customer service needs some serious attention. We will not be returning.

Average review this time and a bit disappointed compared to my previous glowing reviews. We think it has been taken over but there has definitely been a price hike at the same time the food quality has declined slightly. There used to always be a few crisps and a very tasty coleslaw salad served with the sandwiches that has now gone in exchange for a few pieces of salad covered in balsamic and another dressing. Our opinion is it’s gone from reasonably priced top quality lunch food to top priced reasonable food.

A nice location and good outdoor space. The menu is as you would expect and the cakes are good. The specials board has a good choice but is expensive for what it is. The tables inside are very close to each other so it’s all a bit tight. It’s dog friendly so n ideal stop if you are in the area walking.

Our initial ‘discovery’ of this cafe made us very happy as their vegetarian provision for breakfast appeared well thought out with meat-free alternatives for a bacon and sausage sandwich/bap. On our second visit, we were told they had ‘run out’ of the vegan bacon so we had vegan sausage instead. On questioning the new manager we were told they don’t get much call for the meat free menu (despite us during our hour-long visit seeing three groups ask for vegetarian and being denied). Our last visit was a total shambles with both vegan bacon and sausages being unavailable. When pressed, staff confessed the menus were changing (due to new owners) and it was highly likely that these options would no longer be available. On our last visit (and it will be our last) we saw a further two customers ask for meat-free only to be disappointed. I am dismayed at the willingness of this place to dismiss the “meatless-pound” given the economy we are in. Service here is good although we have experienced long cue waits due to (I suspect) a new till system requiring 5 members of staff to resolve. Staff are pleasant and approachable and the food is lovely.

Visited with a friend. Enjoyed a nice Bacon Brie and Cranberry toastie. Fairly busy got a table straight away. Ordered quick even though there was a queue. Waited 10 minutes for our food. Well worth the wait lovely toastie. Tea was a bit weak for my liking but acceptable. Staff were friendly enough. Huge slices of cake going outside to people. Toastie £8.25 tea £2.40 a pot and Americano £2.80. Had to queue for the loos though!

In the past we have used this cafe a lot but we took some friends today and had a very disappointing experience. On arrival for a 1pm lunch there was no soup and one of my vegetarian friends ordered the fish finger sandwich only to be told they had run out of that too. I encouraged him to have the tuna mayo sandwich which I also had. To my dismay there was an unbelievably small spreading of the tuna mayo making it little more than a cucumber sandwich. This was contrary to my usual experience here. When I raised the issue with the staff I was told it depended on who the chef was! The menu seems to have become very limited and I have been left feeling terrible about recommending this place to my friends. It will be a long time before I return.

Met a friend for lunch today and found our visit disappointing. There seems to be less and less choice on menu each time we come. My friend ordered a toastie and I ordered a jacket potato with tuna mayo. I was surprised at the price of £7.95 just for a plain jacket potato with an extra £1 for tuna mayo. We were told there was a delay of about 40 minutes when ordering food which we said was fine even though there were still plenty of empty tables. An hour later, we were still waiting and noticed that two other tables that had arrived after us were served their food before us. We usually share a portion of chips which have been lovely in the past but these have now been removed from the menu. When our food finally arrived, I was shocked at how little was on my plate. The ‘dressed side salad’ that I was expecting could not even be described as a garnish. I felt they could have put a few crisps on the plate to make it look more. We did mention it to staff before we left. Unfortunately, we won’t be rushing back.

We ordered four bacon/sausage baps for the four of us. Was asked where we were seated and pointed to the area we would go. Meantime whilst our server was watching and listening to his colleague, our table was given to someone else who entered after us. We were then told we could sit outside instead (not ideal when cold and wet) but we said fine. We sat outside for 55mins waiting for four bacon/sausage baps, the coffee order was delivered incorrectly too and despite a couple of polite prompts/reminders the staff attitude was clueless, rude and just "Well we are busy". If you can serve more than 20 people in a timely manner with courtesy then maybe you are in the wrong business!

The selection of coffees, cakes and food is excellent. The cheese and ham toastie is the best I have ever had. Really good quality bread perfectly toasted, full of tasty melted cheese and 'proper' ham ! It comes with lettuce, cucumber, peppers, tomato, crisps and home made coleslaw, perfect and really great value at £7.95. Went to the Cowshed Cafe after having been in the local church for nativity a play by the grandson. Went with wife and daughter. Hot chocolates all round with my daughter having the special, cos I was paying. Also ordered two sausage sandwiches because the Cafe use Lashford sausages, which are superb. The lady serving was lovely and took our orders. The chocolates came in no time and were delicious. Sausage sandwiches arrived and were good too. I had a egg with mine, a slight disappointment in that the yolk was not runny. In a sandwich the yolk has to be runny. It was a round shape, so I am thinking it hadn’t just been done. But other than that we had a good visit. So my tip is make sure yolk is runny and maybe bread slices bit thicker. But still okay indeed.

It was pretty cheap as it was part of the eat out to help out scheme. We got 4 toasties and a jacket potato. They were able to accommodate extras like mushrooms on the potato which wasn't an option on the menu. One of our toasties came out with the wrong filling and their response was to bring the ticket out to confirm what I had ordered (first time id seen the ticket) but I had the order on my phone of what everyone asked me for and what I thought id asked for... anyway we kept the wrong toastie so he could eat at the same time as everyone else. Everyone said they were very tasty. They offered to do a gluten free toastie but it mighy take extra time as the machine would need cleaning before making it... so i opted for a potato! Chips were gluten free but they were cooked in a fryer with other products so cross contamination. They seemed confident about the gluten though which is always reassuring!Tasty food, felt like good quality products. They had good covid precautions in place as well.

As local residents we were disappointed when change of management meant the previous high standards , delicious food and pleasant, friendly ladies serving and clean, welcoming environment seemed to disappear. However, now it’s as good as it ever was, such a pleasant place to go for coffee, lunch etc and sit and chat while enjoying great food , the ladies now working there are so friendly, efficient and helpful. Also, the cutlery is now back on the table and the menus are on clean paper.!!What’s not to like? We will be back!

We discovered this place while walking along the nearby canal. The choice was extensive and we were spoilt for choice. In the end I settled for chicken tikka sandwich, my husband has fish finger sarnie. Service was very prompt and food was delicious. Would definitely call in there again when in the area.

Visited a few week back for a late breakfast. Horrible food has to be the worst sausages I have ever tasted. Sausages were over cooked bland and tasteless, supermarket value sausage taste better! Price of food is not an issue if the meal is enjoyed this however was grossly over priced for the quality of ingredients used.Venue is nice in a semi rural setting, staff were fine nothing special. Looking at other reviews I wonder why our experience was so bad. There were a few of us in the party and we were all disappointed with the food. The meal was the low point of the weekend for all. Just wish we had drove a few more miles into the centre of Stratford were there are much better places to eat.

Booked for a family lunch for 9. Food arrived promptly but all at different times. Kids’ meals were on piping hot plates and were inexplicably served last. That said, the two children’s meals that were cooked were significantly larger than the adult meal of sausage, chips and egg. This was double the price and comprised one measly sausage, two eggs and about 12 chips. At something like £7.75, it was absolutely shocking value. Nobody checked if meals were okay despite it being quiet and there being three staff directly behind us doing very little.

The food here is a tad on the pricey side however I couldn't grumble to much, it was filling and very well cooked, they source a lot of ingredients from local farms.

A nice little café in the Yew Tree Farm Shops. Signage not very good but once found we had a lovely lunch. Staff very friendly and helpful. It was my first visit so have nothing to compare it to but the food and coffee were excellent.

Since new management has taken over the cowshed just is not the same. Went for lunch last week three of us had fish finger sandwiches on brown bread. There was a skimming of tartar sauce on one side of the bread nothing on the other it was so dry we had difficulty swallowing. The fish fingers were tasteless and consisted of a pinky brown colour fish which immediately told me it was not cod but a cheaper brand. Very disappointing. We used to be regular customers but will not eat there again.

I went for lunch with friends and although the staff were very pleasant. The Menu were very tatty good idea placing them on clip boards but please make sure you use good quality paper. Unfortunately the food was not good. We had a fish finger sandwich on wholemeal with salad. Well it was delivered the fish in the finger looked a very dark colour! As I have a allergy to crab I asked what the fish was and the waitress informed me it was 'cod'. It was disgusting! the salad was just long stemmed poor quality rocket etc bread was dry and thick, not a pleasant experience. We used to use the Cafe regularly but since the management has change we will not be returning.

We had a stunning breakfast here, with a choice to rival anything in a major city. Friendly staff, comfortable seats and tables. We didn’t have any cakes but they looked delicious. I recommend the chorizo and smashed eggs on toast.

We have visited in the past and have had a wonderful time. Sadly the changes that have gone on are not proving to be of benefit and today we experienced poor service, limited choice, tables not cleared or wiped, attitude of the staff was rude and they were short with customers who asked about delays! All in all I won’t be going back in a hurry.

Too problems with this place - the lady on the computerised till does not know how to use it so getting served takes ages leading to big queues. The food and drink is very overpriced. Otherwise OK - The treacle tart was very nice.

Went with friends the weekend for breakfast having booked over the phone a table for 4 with a 2year old child. Food ordered at the till with a somewhat unhappy looking server. After it arrived I had the pleasure of going back up to ask for sauces which wasn’t offered by waiting staff on delivery of meal, this took another few minutes for the to transfer from normal bottles into pretentious small jam jars which were not only a pointless addition but impracticality to use.. After paying nearly £40 for breakfast we decided to have a final drink whilst chatting and my son was finishing his food. After waiting for nearly ten minutes for drinks to come a few moments after they arrived we have a reservation note placed on our table by the unfriendly server, who didn’t have the deceny to talk to us about this. It gives us under 5minutes to leave as the table is reserved for another group. We had been there for a grand total of 1 hour.I find this a very unprofessional way to deal with customers, there was no mention of such a short allowance when booking or even when we arrived especially as we had a child that didn’t get to finish his food. It seems this is treated more like a production line of getting people in and out fast rather than allowing people to enjoy the experience.

My husband brought me here for breakfast as a wedding anniversary treat. We had a warm welcome and the best cooked English breakfast I’ve ever had. I’m so very impressed that they had Linda McCartney sausages and quorn bacon for the vegetarians amongst us. Nowhere we have ever been have offered quorn bacon!

Very pleasant here.... Friendly staff and good food. The Cowshed name gives the impression of a lowly or poor standard /situation which is far from the case!!! Have had two visits here within last year or so and both visits very good.

We did not stay to comment on food. It was unclear whether you say down it waited to be sat the waitress couldn't answer or question either we asked again and she said we could sit upstairs which was less than comfortable in old chairs. Added to that the prices seemed quite high. We didn't get a menu and had to ask for one.

My mother and myself had a delicious lunch at this lovely wee cafe. It’s set in a barn conversation with ample seating inside and has a few tables on entering the cafe and has a small garden area at the back with benches and small tables and chairs. There is also a mezzanine area that has comfy settees that has a good view over the whole cafe! We ordered at the till where there is a vast selection of homemade cakes etc and we sat outside enjoying the sunshine! We ordered a loaded Cheese/Ham toasty which came with a side salad, and a delicious Roast Beef Wholemeal Cob again with salad and a side jug of Gravy and Chips! Lovely! The staff are very efficient and friendly! Great food great atmosphere!

This pub is sadly currently closed due to a large fire earlier in the year. It will be closed for some time. I hope it gets restored as it had a great reputation before. There are plenty of other great alternatives nearby to visit.

Their baristas do not know how to make a cappuccino. They gave me a luke warm latte with no cappuccino froth whatsoever. I was also absolutely horrified to see them mopping the toilet floor then using the same mop to “clean” the floor of the cafe - spreading faecal matter where people eat food - a real health and safety hazard. Avoid ..,
