really great little shack. staff are always kind & friendly. we always go to this place if we want an ice cream, they’re really great here and they also offer an excellent selection of vegan & dairy free ice cream so it’s great for those with dietary requirements. the dairy ice cream comes in various flavours with various cones so everyone within your party will be happy with the selection. there’s something for everyone.

We’ve been ‘locals’ now for just over a year and have walked past here regularly but only today spotted a seating area at the rear. Maybe it’s new or maybe we’re just not that observant, but after a long walk we popped in for coffee & cake. The young lady who took our order was super helpful & polite, the coffee was very good and the cake was delicious. The view was fabulous and there was a wood burner that will be amazing on colder days.

Been a couple of times already this summer and it's now one of our go-to places in Weston. So excited to see their vegan menu - chips with cheese and a choice of battered sausages. The chips with vegan cheese are great - cooked fresh in their own vegan fryer. The cheese was gooey and perfectly melted. The battered sausages are a also fab. Portions are quite large so very filling and you could easily share a box to leave room for the lush dairy-free ice cream they also offer.

After wandering trying to find somewhere that had haddock ( and it wasn't a tenner) we found this small cafe. Warm welcome from staff and a clean cafe. Ordered cod and chips, haddock and chips plus mushy peas and bread and butter. Chips were good, fish decent and batter nice and crispy ( poor batter is my bugbear). Choosing this cafe really was a bum deal for mŷ family when we visited today. This cafe, other than being on the beach has nothing to recommend it. The service is slow and unenthusiatic, the food is well below par and tastes vaguely of petrol, although they did manage to service a decent can on Diet Coke. If you feel the need to visit this awful establishment may I suggest you stick to canned good only. Avoid the cupboard in the toilet as that apparently is where they store the drinks, so on second thoughts I’d probably avoid the canned drinks too!

We stopped with our 2 year old for a drink and an ice cream. I went off to change our daughters nappy whilst my other half ordered. The toilets were DISGUSTING. There was what looked like urine leaking from the toilet pipe and it smelt like a sewer. There was in fact nowhere to change my daughters nappy. The state of the cafe whilst walking through was terrible with old dirty plates on the tables and chips all over the floor. I went back to our table outside where my partner explained that the waiting staff couldn't tell him which ice creams were Gluten Free (I have celiac disease) despite the sign saying "most ice creams are gluten free, please ask for more info". My understanding is that all establishments should be able to provide a list of all allergens when requested to do so. The hygiene, knowledge and customer service skills has made me want to avoid this place at all costs!

Went in for lunch and a cuppa - BIG mistake! The tea arrived quickly and was good enough, however.....25 minutes later our poor excuse for cod and chips arrived. The batter was well over cooked and repeated on us for the rest of the day, time for an oil change in the fryer me thinks, I didn't finish it all as some of the fish wasn't edible, or fresh, we weren't even sure it was actually cod. Chips were dry and tasteless, apart from the stale fat they were cooked in! Its only saving grace was the view over the beach. As mentioned by others, it was colder inside than out and the furnishings in a very poor state. The table had been wiped down but not dried. I wish we had checked on here before we went through the door.We would rather go hungry than visit here again!

Grim is the first word that comes to mind. Its was raining, damp and cold outside so we popped in for warming drink as dogs where allowed. The place was a bit like a public toilet, greys tiles and metal chairs must have looked good when it was new but now its look like scrap heap challenge. Walls with peeling paint, buckets and general rubbish stored in view. The view of the beach is excellent and would encourage a visitor to stop but with all the doors open the place was freezing cold and you would have been warmer sitting outside. Staff where friendly, helpful and trying to do their best but its nice when there is some form of dress code and you are not served by someone in their own clothes which are shall we say not as clean as they should be. Coffee was luke warm and spilled all over the saucer, no decaffeinated, we didn't eat and left as soon as we could.

So we ordered a standard breakfast and a vegetarian option with a coffee and a latte, waited 20 mins for the coffee (which to be fair was good quality).... Then the breakfasts arrived. We will start with the good points, Mr tells me the sausage and bacon were good quality and the toast was half decent although it was spoiled by a thick gloop of sunflower spread. I can forgive that! I can almost forgive the lukewarm beans and the over cooked scrambled egg. What I could not get over and can still regretfully taste was the rancid black leatherette offering which I am assured was actually a mushroom. I risked a taste, how I wish I had nt. I assume it was fried in a deep fryer in rancid fat, to me as a veggie the worry was the stale "meaty" grease that erupted into my mouth when I chewed this thing formally known as mushroom. I spat it into my napkin and called the waitress over, she apologised and took our plates away reassuring us she would rectify the problem. I asked if the mushroom had been deep fried, suggested rancid fat might be the issue. I was assured this was not the case, note at this point I was told "it was cooked fresh to order". The young waitress returned our plates minus the offending vegetable and told us that all the mushrooms had been cooked for service so we could choose something else if we wanted. Rancid food should not be served with a side of indifference, yet the owner manager just looked on uncaring that this was what they dished up. As we left I watched as two more customers were served breakfast offerings with the same hideous inedible fungus. We will never go back. Avoid at all costs

It is a shame that one staff member can let down the whole cafe, whether eating in or taking away as a paying customer I wouldn't expect that.

We visit Weston Super Mare once a year and always look forward to visiting The Cove for excellent food and service, however on this occasion it was well below its usual standard, both in quality of food and service. Although there was nothing to particularly fault about the food it just wasn't 'special' the younger members of staff were not well informed or trained, when we asked one young waiter a question about accompaniments he didn't know the answer and made no effort to find out. The older lady waitress was very friendly and helpful but was clearly having to sort everything. There was only the disabled toilet in use for the whole restaurant the ladies and gents were out of order. Hopefully things will improve before we return next year.

Paid a brief visit to Weston with my five year old grandson who started pestering me for something to eat. We were outside Cove West so went in. I can honestly say that I have never had worse fish and chips in my life; they were awful. The chips had obviously been cooked hours earlier and heated up, they were soggy and and had certainly been cooked in old and dirty oil. The batter on the fish was inedible. I am amazed that somewhere that serves such poor food is still in business. Apart from that the place was scruffy with rubbish all over the floor and very young staff that seemed more interested in gossiping and flirting amongst themselves.

Unfortunately we visited this so called eatery on Sunday 24th July and wished we never had. The view is great but do not let this attract you in. Once we ordered the food we sat down and waited for it to arrive, looking around it was clear that the cleaning was not good and it was very basic. Knives and forks needed wiping before we could use them, vinegar looked watered down and everything was cheap. The food arrived with chips that were not fit for human consumption they were like chewing chewing gum and tasted like fish, none of us ate them. The fish was just full of fat and the sausages were burnt and over cooked. This is the worst fish and chip meal I have ever had. We left most of the food and I asked for a refund and was given one. My sister and I decided to take a walk on the seafront and find somewhere to have lunch. The location of the cafe is great and there are some nice views. Unfortunately, this is where the positive views end.I ordered fish and chips and my sister had the veggie burger and chips. The fish batter was greasy and I am fairly certain that the fish itself had been frozen, meaning it was greasy and watery. The chips were also greasy. My sister's veggie burger (made from sweet potato and chickpea). It had not been bound together enough, meaning that it was like a loose mash and didn't stay in the bun (photo attached). Her chips were also greasy. The service was OK, but there was a change over and our food was left at the serving station for a while before it was brought to us.Overall, the experience was not good and not one that I would be willing to repeat.

This is my summary of my visit! Walked by kids were hungry and we stopped to get some chips! Looks quite modern and pleased to find a seat inside out of the shady wind! So ordering fine although I should have been nervous when a customer asked for a bag to carry her burgeoning cartons! Young girl by the coffee scrabbled around and found a manky carrier and threw it on the side to the words "er u r"! I just hope that carrier wasn't harbouring anything insane (you might want to invest in some maybe with your business name!)Next up me so it won't be long always feels me with dread it gave me chance to watch the "chef" load up plates with food and balance them on the hot plate ledge with the lamps not on to keep the food warm. This took ages as some young girl working there was on her 4th attempt of delivering a hot drink to a customer she couldn't find. I mean pretty bad memory as I knew who ordered the coffee as she had served the customer minutes before! I also witnessed a manky cloth and fingers being used to wipe / pick some loose cheese / tartare sauce off the carton ! So right I get my food 10 minutes it took to produce some chips and sit down next to 3 tables piled high with empty plates and cheese all over them I ignored but upon closer watching it was apparent that their social media messages were more important and at one point saw 4 girls just stood there on phones whilst these tables needed cleaning no one seemed to take ownership ! They were still unwiped 25 minutes we were there. So ok the chips were delicious thanks however it was short lived when I decided to use your toilet facilities. I was next to use them after the chef had used them and to my amazement I took my daughter with me as she needed to go but I had to clean urine off the seat and flush it. So at this point felt a bit sick as chances are lack of care might mean he never actually washed his hands. I guess I need to balance this with somePositives then so here they are - great location- great view- reasonable prices- my last positive is I am 100% sure I will not return You are just too chaotic run by juveniles who didn't seem to care about the business and protect its interests. Sort it out before the summer and address the hygiene and cleaniness issues

Went for a meal on a Tuesday evening and the service was really slow and disappointing. There was a larger table of approx 10 people and the focus was on them and the three other smaller tables were largely ignored. Waited ages to have the main meal cleared and when we asked for the dessert menu we were told to "wait a minute". We waited for them to take our order but they didn't come back so we gave up and put our coats onto leave... funny enough they took notice then and got us the bill quite sharpish. The food was surprisingly bland- fish cakes looked lovely but had poor seasoning. The scotch egg and pickled veg was quite tasty but the handful of boring rocket on the side and no seasoning or dressing. The pork belly was underwhelming too. Don't bother with the fish and chips! Go somewhere else and don't pay for something special because you won't get it. Underwhelming and disappointing as it was a birthday treat.

The price for cod and chips was higher than elsewhere along the seafront - I wrongly took this to be a sign of quality. The place looks a little shabby, but at the same time someone has obviously tried to spruce up the otherwised tired looking room. As I waited an interminably long time for my food I realised that the uncleared tables and food on the floor was due not to a rushed service but the indolence of the teenage staff. When the food eventually arrived the food was great, but the cod I had paid for was NOT cod. Staff entirely indifferent. When I asked who I should complain to they shrugged. They found an adult, who really did not care. I would be happy to support anybody's complaint to trading standards as you are just not getting what you have paid for.

Had fish and chips and the food was good , service was ok, but the problem was the drinks, we ordered 2 bottles of Becks and 2 bottles of Thatchers cider , the Becks date was best before 07 -14 , yes! 07 -14 and the Thatchers date was best before 17- 05- 15. I always check the dates as I'm a bar manager, good job I wasn't a trading standards officer. The drinks were fine as they were in glass bottles as for the owner, tighten up those standards

First time we came in Feb and service was slow and many orders coming out the kitchen were given to the wrong people. Fast forward to July and nothings change. Still the same girl behind the till not listening to what people order. Giving people wrong orders then expecting them to swap it back. Took 20 mins what was supose to be 4 mins to wait for a missing portion of chips to then while we watched other people getting food. Wet floors broken chairs and wobble tables. Not even offered cutlery ate inside and got given chips in take away containers not plates. Wouldnt recommend to any. Staff dont even seem bothered by their mistakes.

We have just come back from a rare day out in Weston-Super-Mare, our home town. As we had not had lunch we decided to go to the café as it looked quite nice and there were not too many customers and we were pushed for time. The cooked food menu was very basic - I think there was just Fish & Chips, Burger & Chips, Sausage, egg and chips and ham, egg and chips. There were other options, paninis etc but we wants something more. Firstly we were charged about £17.00 for two meals, can of Coke and a small, warm milkshake, then we had to wait about 30 minutes for it and when they did turn up the food was awful. My sausages (they'd run out of ham) were deep fried and tasteless, the egg was very small and the chips that filled the rest of the plate were so greasy they were practically inedible. My husband's meal (burger) was not much better. He said the best part was the pickle! I left most of mine. The only positive thing was that the place looked fairly clean - but you would expect that in a café - though goodness knows what the chip fryer was like. I have never left a one rating on Trip Advisor but this place was awful and I would never go back there again.

I have visited this wonderful café on the sea front twice now & have found it to be a real pleasure both times. The first time we just had some hot drinks but this time went in for some lunch. The café interior is very basic, with metal chairs (cushions on the seats) & Formica topped tables. Dogs are allowed into the café, which I loudly applaud, being an ardent animal lover! There is even a huge glass container on their counter with dog biscuits in it & you can buy tennis balls & toys to play with your dog on the beach. A lovely touch. The menu is very acceptable & we opted for cod & chips (cheesy chips for me) & mushy peas. This was delicious & well priced. I had a cappuccino & my companions had tea (good builder's tea) & an elderflower pressé. We followed this with Marshfield Farm ice cream (£2.90 for a HUGE double cone which the young man filled to maximum capacity); these were gloriously flavoured concoctions of deliciousness & I can recommend the blackcurrant & clotted cream flavour!During our lunch some people came in with their dogs, which were well behaved & had access to a bowl of water. No-one objected to the dogs & I wish more places allowed dogs. In France this is completely acceptable & you will see many a dog enjoying lunch with their owners! The staff are polite & service is efficient & the bill reasonable. A very enjoyable experience & wouldn't hesitate to visit for a third time.

Have been to this café many times in the past but in my opinion it has really gone down hill. There is only 1 cooked vegetarian meal on the menu, which is the past I have always been happy with, this time this meal was unavailable, always thought that the food was made from fresh ingredients, so wouldn't of thought it would be difficult to source sweet potatoes and halloumi cheese? As we had very young children with us (please note that there is nowhere to change the babies) and they were settled in their seats I opted for the goats cheese and chargrilled vegetable toasty. The chargrilled vegetables were still chilled and the goats cheese wasn't melted, so all in all pretty unpleasant to eat. Asked for the "garden lemonade" off the menu to be shown the fridge and a can of Fanta lemon and told that was the lemonade, oh my days!!! The toilets were filthy and the floor was soaking wet, though not sure what with, but got out of there as quick as I could.Think this place will have to pull their socks up, there's now new competition a few yards along the front, looking forward to trying out the competition!

Have been into Cove West a couple of times and have had a nice coffee and an good quality Bacon Sandwich. It was good quality back bacon and not the streaky tou get in a lot of venues. The coffee cups are a little small and not good value but a nice blend.I went into Cove West on Bank Holiday Saturday morning for another nice bacon sandwich, however at 10:30 in the morning there was NO BACON. Have they never heard of Tesco, being in town one would have ample opportunity to buy some bacon. I hope this is a now off as Dove West in a good venue with great outside space and great sea views from inside.

This was our second visit to this beachside cafe but what a disapointment - the previous pot of tea is now a teabag in a mug of not-quite-boiled water, the locally sourced fresh farmhouse bread is now 'value' thinly sliced supermarket bread and the home-prepared marmalade has been replaced by a red jelly (not jam) of dubious taste. Worse is the attitude of the chef/manager who -when told the sausages were undercooked- shrieked at ME from the kitchen that there were no refunds(I wasn't looking for one)and shouted at the waitress to stop sending customers in to complain!!!!(she had persuaded me to discuss my concerns re the food with him) in short, the food is now cheap, the staff are bullied and the 'manager' has no customer service skills AT ALL. Hope 2015 is a good year for him................

stopped here yesterday as we had lunch here a while back and it was lovely. This time the food was ok, fish was very wet and the batter greasy. My wife said her white bait was lovely though. But you were made to feel like you were doing the staff a favour by being there- the friendly ones in the other reviews must have had a day off

We wanted a get away from it all quiet and special place for breakfast and this did not disappoint as the view of knightstone and the bay is stunning. The decor is upmarket, simple but perfect for a special occasion from breakfast, lunch or evening meal when the area lights up.The breakfast was a good size, freshly cooked and coffee to die for and we thoroughly enjoyed it with freshly made bread too. Service was good not rushed and added to a relaxing breakfast unlike some local establishments that are trying to book your table just as the breakfast goes down and watching your table!

Popped in to have a light lunch. Was not disappointed. Really good bread, I chose brown, my friend chose white. Both sandwiches were delicious. the bread was good quality and cut nice and chunky with plenty of filling accompanied by veggie crisps. Did notice other diners with fish and chips which did look quite yummy. have been back again also had an ice cream there which was very nice.

Sitting on the sea front with a stunning views, this otherwise ordinary looking fast food outlet contained a surprise - a willingness to combine ingredients from two menu items, to produce tempura halloumi and chilli jam with salad and coleslaw - plus really cheery service. Wonderful!

My Husband and I visited the Cove on a Friday evening and we sampled the 3 course set menu priced at £19.50.Great choice of starters/mains/desserts. The service was very friendly and the view was very relaxing overlooking Marine Lake. Food portions were not huge, but the quality of the food meant you didn't need mountains of it to feel satisfied. Would defiantly go back, great as a romantic meal for two or like us,next time, we'll be going back with a group of friends.......

Sadly, we didn't eat at Cove West until the last day of our holiday, otherwise we certainly would have gone back again to sample the lunch menu. This is a lovely building on the sea front, opposite The Old Thatched Cottage Restaurant which is a converted public toilet, not that you would guess! One could easily miss it however as, although some chalk boards at the front display the name, it doesn't actually have a sign on the building at all. What they've got right here is that although the breakfast menu is not extensive, everything is done very well. My husband and I ordered the full English breakfast which includes thick, crusty doorstep toast (white or granary), 2 very tasty sausages, 2 thick rashers of bacon, beans, a large fried mushroom and fried egg. This was the first breakfast we had in which everything was top quality and yet it was very competitively priced at £5.50, we paid the same at other places for far inferior food. There were also a selection of breakfast baguettes and sandwiches on the menu, as well as scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. There was no kids menu, as such, but I asked for scrambled egg and beans on toast for my son which was no problem and we were only charged the £2.95 that is usually charged for a filled baguette. Tea for 1 came in a pot and had 2 cups in it.We sat outside as it was such a lovely day, but when I popped in to use the loo I thought the decor inside was lovely. The only issue for us was that there were no baby change facilities, given that both male and female toilets are large enough for wheelchairs, a changing table could easily be fitted in. They did provide us with a highchair though.Food was cooked fresh and service was quick and friendly.I noticed from the boards around the restaurant that the lunch/dinner menu includes the standards fish and chips (also available to take away so well worth the 2 minute stroll from the heaving pier serving worse food at higher prices), as well as some more unusual sea food such as scallops, pollock and rock salmon in tempura batter, all of which were very competitively priced. We will definitely go back in the future to try some of the seafood on offer. This is a fairly new venture and I really hope that word gets round as they are serving up tasty food at great prices and in a stunning location.

Beautiful setting overlooking the sea at Madeira Cove. For £19.50 you get a 3 course meal which is good value fora place of this standard. Unusual starters such as parma hamwith peach and mozzarella cheese and sardines with poachedegg. Small menu but plenty of fish, and small but lovelydesserts such as coconut pannacotta and strawberrycreme brulee. They seemed to be running out of somedishes fairly quickly but we were lucky and got our firstchoices. They also have large outside dining areas.

We arrived in the morning Senior citizen's trip. We were member of conservative club locally. My husband and I went there about early lunch, pressed to request could we enter no problem, we could have signed visitors book. The person there then very polite. Late before going back to our collection point we decided to return. we done this same thing but this time a man answered . Asked we were members explained on a visit and where from and we did not have docs on us but before we could say could we sign as visitors the conversation went not member's cannot be allowed in and put the intercom down. HOW RUDE. Would I return no and would I recommend no not if that person can not use some manners .

I went to this delightful pub/restaurant in Portbury, Bristol, with a friend. Our lunch was delicious, freshly cooked, and very filling. It was quite quiet, we went on a Monday afternoon. The staff, in particular Andrea, were friendly, attentive and helpful. I would happily recommend it for a quiet, weekday lunch.

Nine members of a Walking Group had a lunch at this lovely Pub, a warm welcome directed us to a large table where we relaxed after a walk in this lovely locality. It wasn’t quite warm enough to sit outside in the garden which has a breathtaking view over the Lake and hills. ( A summer visit will be organised.) The food was from a wide ranging menu but I was determined to try the Cow pie. Really tasty and served with lovely Mash and roasted vegetables, excellent meal and excellent value. Several other members had fish pie which I will sample on my next visit. All the Group agreed that the food and Service was exceptional.

Used the function room for my son’s christening and can only say how poor the service/experience was. One person serving behind the bar for both our function guests and people within the pub is not acceptable. For the chef on the carvery section to have to cover the bar and leave the carvery whilst people are waiting to be served is shocking management. We had guests that didn’t even get a drink the whole time they attended the queue was that bad. The facilities in the function room also had hardly any toilet paper both in the men’s and women’s and when we had to try and get the key for the disabled toilets so some people could use the bathroom, it was impossible to get hold of, despite 3 separate people asking. The money that was paid for the food was not reflected. The food came out 2 hours late and as well as there being sandwiches, there was 1 small bowl of chips, 1 small bowl of battered garlic mushrooms, a dinner plate of chicken wings and a small plate of approx. 20 bite size hot dogs, bearing in mind we paid for 45 people! Since being at the function, I have had guests who attended saying nothing but negative comments about their experience at the function, and how it put such a negative on a day that is very important to me and my family. Thank you for making a special day that bit less special.

Great food and a lovely warm ambience . Staff were welcoming and friendly . You need to buy a car park ticket which is fully refunded before you leave .
