This pub has struggled to attract customers over the years. It was closed for a while and reopened after some extensive, and probably expensive, refurbishment. As a result it is clean and well decorated and is quite smart.

Popped in with friends and was really hungry so I took a chance and ordered a burger...it was absolutely excellent!! I was very pleasantly surprised. Well worth a visit

Great food , the scotch egg was the I have ever tasted.

Tuvimos una comida aquí esta noche con amigos, recomendaría altamente stilton, tuve un bloody mary y salchichas en una cama fuera puré con vino tinto jus, bien merece una visita si estás en la zona. Un gran servicio. 5* desde los cuatro. Sigan el buen trabajo.

Han estado usando este pub las últimas semanas después de la nueva administración. Llevé a la familia de hoy por una asado. Carne de pollo y ajo limón desde arriba eran las dos carnes. . . ambos estuvieron deliciosos. Los 8 de nosotros realmente disfrutamos de la comida y limpia los platos durante todo - incluyendo los niños! El personal es amable y la relación calidad-precio también. Muy recomendado para un asado o una bebida.

Good beer served by friendly staff at good prices. The only downside was that a couple of the beers on the taps weren't available.

La intención de venir aquí antes, pero hasta que fue reabierto, rara vez. Desde fuera parece buena y agradable en el interior. Sólo cayó en un rápido pero aparentemente pinta la comida es buena. Así que imagino que Su anuncia karaoke animado en las noches. Tiene mucha competencia en esta zona de la ciudad. El servicio era amable y volveríamos.

Fuimos al condado para una comida familiar con un bono de groupon, dos campos + bebidas para cuatro el sábado por la noche. Buena comida que había pescado y patatas, gambas, y un plato que aunque fue descrito encontré un como de tamaño en el lado caliente. Desierto era apple con natillas y bolas estuvó 3 de helado. La comida era lo que cabe esperar de un pub del centro de la ciudad, pero los sabores básicos pub platos bien.

Excellent service, hot food, pleasant staff and good value. A place we have not been before, but will certainly return.

El Condado de Ipswich Suffolk tenía una experiencia culinaria más afortunados en su sección restaurante - comida genial y un gran servicio. Richard y Matt nos hicieron sentir muy bienvenidos, tomamos una copa en el bar después de un gran ambiente de instalaciones recomiendo totalmente.

Had a traditional Sunday lunch here this week and it was surprisingly good for the relatively low price. Particularly loved the pear crumble and custard. Not haute cuisine, but great value combined with excellent service from Richard (and Jade). Thoroughly recommended.

Wow... What a jewel in the Suffolk crown this little gem of a place is. Lovely friendly staff, great atmosphere and most importantly CLEAN glasses :) We will be going back as I've been told by the regulars that the roast on Sunday is out of this world. Thanks to all for a relaxing and pleasant experience :)

My husband and I used to go to The County in our courting days some 56 years ago! I had not been back for many years and watched as we drove past as it seemed to go downhill. My husband died 12 years ago. Two weeks ago my fiance, my sister and her husband went back to The County, what a fantastic surprise! A very pleasant atmosphere, good food and staff that actually smiled and were eager to please. We were all very happy with all aspects of our visit. Will definitely visit again.

This is my local, but having been on the scene in London, Bournemouth, Brighton, New York etc.... This is a really lovely pub:... The clicky and unfriendliness that plagues most gay venues just isn't the case here.... Laid back locals and regulars.... Gets very busy with a great mish mash of people....

My girlfriend and I have enjoyed a great dinner at this pub in Ipswich. Great food, generous portions and really friendly service. Using our Tastecard, we have had dinner for very good value!

Great food, good atmosphere, very friendly staff, shame about the karaoke! busy pub and very reasonably priced.

Best roast we have eaten out for a long time. Better than one at home come to that! Beef was tender and just how we like it.. pink, from the middle. More done on outside, so catering for all. Magnificent vegetables, crispy Yorkshire, crunchy roast potatoes but soft and fluffy on inside. Best cauliflower cheese ever. Sprouts, greens, carrots all great. Carvery too, put as much as you can on. I could eat it all again it was sooooo good. We will be back. Thanks.

I have been going two the mermaid in Ipswich in Suffolk from day 1 then open ,I go on Sundays and some times in the week , the food is always very good.the service is very good,and always a good atmosphere. I am a vegetarian my wife is not .they look after all .

Food is excellent, and way above standard pub grub. We went with friends via a Gourmet Society promotion and were delighted with what we found. Friendly and helpful landlord and staff, good real ale, and really good "pub" food. If it had been served in a posh restaurant at twice the price we would not have felt we had been short changed. Located less than a minutes walk from The Regent theatre, so great for something to eat before the show.

Came here because I was able to get a 2 for 1 using my Gourmet Society card. 2 starters: 1 garlic mushrooms, 1 fried chicken2 mains: 1 scampi, 1 beef burger.The chicken starter was fabulous. Fried but moist and tasty. Mushrooms were ok.Scampi was great. Burger is a decent serving and comes with hand cut chips. Chips were slightly undercooked but overall it was tasty.Service was fabulous. Staff are friendly and act like they actually care. A distinct change to the usual attitude I'm used to. Seperate dining room gives diners some space to eat away from party people. 2 x flat screens to keep bored couples or children entertained. Prices: Dinner mentioned above + 2 beers just tipped £20 (with the GS discount). I'd come back.

You have to visit this pub! Used the groupon voucher and how fabulous was this food! Shame I don't live locally as I'd love to revisit.

Visited here today for the first time, we used a Groupon deal for a Burger meal & drinks-Was so worth the money could not fault.Very good burger options & many different drinks to choose from friendly staff too!We are planning to return for sure...

2nd time at newly refurb pub for food, 2nd time food fantastic, burgers and hand made chips, totally yummy, compliments to chef, one of best burgers ever!

My husband and I visisted on a groupon deal, The food was good, the staff were excellent, we thought we would go back, We noticed that they do quiz nights, so decided to give it a go with a couple of friends, once again the friendliness of the place excelled.We will probably go here on a regular basis.

My husband and I went to the County Pub in Ipswich last week for a two course meal, which was a groupon deal. The choice of food on the menu was good. The waiter helped me to choose my main meal as I was undecided between the chicken dish or the salmon - I had the chicken and it was really tasty. We both had different starters, baked brie and my husband chicken pakoras. Both were very good sized portions. The value of the meal was superb and we had a glass of wine included too. We had to book a table, and there were several other couples eating in the area we were in. On the other side of the pub, they had a quiz - which seemed fun, although the questions were hard!I would recommend this pub for good food, especially if you are going to the Regent Theatre as it is close by.Well done, we will return and recommend to friends and family

This was our first visit to the pub and we were very pleasantly surprised!! Great quality fresh cooked food together with excellent service from all the staff. Will definitely be back next time we go to The Regent. Thanks for a lovely evening out.

Myself and partner visited last night and had a lovely meal. Bright airy cheerful restaurant, and Matt gave us a smashing warm welcome on arrival. We both enjoyed three courses, myself spicy chicken strips with dips starter, and other half enjoyed winter veg soup with warm bread roll ( hit the spot just right as it was a freezing evening) both were plentiful and freshly prepared. Next up I enjoyed fish, hand cut chunky chips and mushy peas, whilst other half had scampi with the same accompaniments. Both were there again lovely freshly cooked, well presented and generous in portions. We simply had to try dessert even though we were well stuffed. I plumped for hot sticky toffee pud with the most delicious honeycombed ice cream whilst other half had blueberry, apple and poppy seed crumble with a little jug of steamy custard on the side. Just delicious. The drinks were a very reasonable price too. Matt was a really good cheery host who made sure we had everything we needed and timed it just right between each course. All in all an excellent visit. They have now started to offer a carvery menu on Sundays.If it's anything like the great food and service we had during our visit, you won't be disappointed. It's also just a step away from the theatre for anyone wanting to enjoy a pre theatre meal. We shall defiantly return. Thanks Matt and the team at The County Ipswich.

I am genuinely surprised at the good reviews of what we found to be inadequate.Good points: Very good, reasonably priced beer. Staff very anxious to please.Bad Points: Poor quality food, using cheap ingredients. Dreadful ambiance - in the 'dining room' were two stacks of unused chairs(right next to our table!), a pool table with a cloth over it and a mobile (unused) carvery in the middle of the room!There is obviously a real will to please but it wasn't successful in our case!

Two of us had a really enjoyable dinner last Saturday evening. Staff were friendly and attentive. Good value meal and we were pleasantly surprised by the cost of drinks. The venue had a good buzzy ambience and we look forward to a return visit. I do hope the management will be successful in this convenient town location.

This pub used to be a right dive - but has been refurbished and is truely lovely - went there on a groupon and the food was unfaultable (if thats a word!) - Clean and well thought out spaces to eat, relax or drink, decor was great, food was spot on - and plenty of it, and service was impeckable. A fantastic eve out and a lovely meal - not a great deal of choice but enough and would recommend.

My husband and I had an enjoyable meal here last night. The service was very good and attentive. There was the right amount of choice with the menu and the vegetarian option particularly tasty. They are going to start having a carvery twice a week soon.

This was a Birthday treat from my wife via a Groupon Voucher. Could not fault the service or the food. The waitress was extremely helpful and pleasant and could not be faulted in any way - in fact have never come across a waitress as good as this one. The location of the restaurant is ideal for The Regent Theatre - we went from the restaurant to see the Magic of The Beatles ( who were brilliant) so it's an ideal venue to eat before going to the theatre. Food was plentiful and well cooked and there was plenty of choice. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone who wants a good meal in pleasant surroundings.

This pub is very near the Regent theatre so is convenient as a pre theatre venue. Menu is traditional pub grub, reasonably priced and the eating room fine, if a little basic. The table service was excellent with a waitress who was always on hand is see if all was well, which it was. We will return.

we decided ad hock to stop off for some lunch, and came across the new harvester, it was lunch time and it was quite busy, this was mid week. lots of young mums with small children, so it was quite noisy. service was quite good, but a little too quick, we had only just sat down when we were asked for our order. The food was hot and not bad at all, the prices were very reasonable. you got free soft drinks, as much as you wanted. we had a pleasant lunch, it was what it was. not the place for a special treat or occasion, but good just to take away the hunger pangs. I would go back again.

Ate at 6,30 wed ----staff very friendly, excellent house red wine and 4 good real ales. Food was good value for money with large sized portions. Quiet but clean and modern. Worth a visit if you have not been in since it was renovated 6 months ago.

Thought this would be a good place to eat before going to the theatre. Asked if they could produce 2 courses in 40 mins. We were told no problem. Ordered a starter of brie & garlic bread. Wanted salmon main course, but it wasnt available so chose chicken. Barman came over and told us they were out of garlic bread, did we want onion rings instead? Sat for 20 minutes then went to bar to ask where food was. An adjacent table, who'd been waiting longer also asked. 10 minutes later our chicken arrived - with onion rings. Queried where the brie was and waiter said it had not been ordered. Chicken was quite nice, but we had to eat fast. Also a really strange lay out. Front of bar was settees and low tables so couldn't eat there and tables at back were basic and shared the space with a pool table. Really disappointed.

We visited the County in the early evening due to the two previous reviews. The County offer food from noon until 8pm which should been enough of a warning that this not a restaurant, but a pub offering food at lunchtime and also to those on their way home from work. Asking for table at 7.00pm seemed a surprise to the two bar staff. The previous reviews mention the limited menu, which is true; only six items to choose. I chose the three local sausage varieties with mash and onion rings, while my wife went for the frittata with chips and salad.The previously mentioned chef was absent as the meal was prepared by one of the bar staff. There was quite a long wait, and when the food did arrive, the frittata was a frozen one that had been heated; the sausages were of good quality, onions ring had also been frozen, while the small quantity of mashed potato was served in a small cast iron casserole!The positives from the County are that the staff are very helpful and welcoming and the meals are cheap. The negative is that the portions are small.

I have only recently started coming into the county of Suffolk and was impressed by the very warm welcome and a great modern appearance. The menu and food is fantastic and is very well presented and also very good value for money. Also the staff are extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The selection of drinks is great and always get what you ask for. Would defiantly recommend to all.

The new management has developed a very clever and extremely appetising menu. It is uncomplicated and not so many choices that you are overwhelmed. This means that the food chosen is exquisitely presented, and cooked to perfection. The standard for a pub menu was restaurant standard. Cannot praise the chef & Host enough, very friendly & hospitable, nothing is too much trouble, will definitely visit again, and cannot recommend enough to others looking for a warm welcome and a good meal in town and if you're looking for value for money, this is definitely the place for you.

Having been a regular in this place since the early 90's, it is refreshing to see the place now revamped with superb food, a great atmosphere and good ale. The management team have obviously a lot of experience and know full well how to make their customers feel welcome, happy and very well looked after - nothing is too much trouble for them. The food is excellent and I have had many a chat with the chef on recipes and preparation....and boy is that an eye opener.If you are in Ipswich it is definately a place to visit!

I have visited The County on a number of occasions with my Partner since it reopened. We have both been impressed with the friendly staff, who always make us feel very welcome and you always get good service with a smile. The Pub is always very clean, warm and relaxing to be in. As a real ale drinker, I have been impressed with the beers on offer from the Caledonian Brewery and there are also a number of good quality wines available. The Menu choice is varied and very competitively priced. Last Saturday night, we had our first meal at the Pub and it was worth the wait! The lamb shank in a mint & red wine gravy with mash and vegetables was fantastic, as was the Chicken Roulade with mustard mash and vegetables and both were cooked to perfection. All in all, it was a fantastic meal, cooked by by a Top Chef from London and we willl definately be eating there more regularly! Please give The County a try and sample the excellent food & hospitality - you won't be disappointed.

Looking for pre theatre drinks or meal then this is the place! very clean and warm and a good atmosphere, been up and running 4 weeks with new management,the manager is a chef from London and a great cook,some lovely food on offer,there are also bar snacks such as a mixture of olives slices of French bread and dipping balsamic vinegar and oil only £1.95 they had some new type of rum which the manager insisted we try Pink Pidgeon it was lovely ,also Pussers rum a bit of a rariety in a pub ,several types of real ale and a very good choice of wines all on offer, we have been there 4 times since opened and will be going there on a regular basis.vintage T V was on, the manager can put sport on if you want there are three different screens to choose from, we sat in the bar on the lovely leather seats and watched vintage T V ,there was several customers at the bar also enjoying a laugh with the new manager,never seen so many people laughing as they were trying to decide if bread was done on one side is it toast or not ! iv never heard so much laughing over such a simple subject ! and total strangers making friends lovely to see this day and age, if you visit ask him about toast ! and watch him smile ! toilets immaculate !
