Great guy really nice and great food

Been coming here since I've moved to Ipswich, the guy behind the counter is always friendly and welcoming. The fish and chips are great and he has made a smokey paprika spice mix that sits with the salt and vinegar which is so tasty!

Burnt fish and missing order(got it 1hour late)delivery driver didn't even apologise last time I will be ordering from that chip shop .very disappointed

Came in for around 4:00pm today, the guy that served me seemed nice enough until I attempted to pay by card. He wasn’t too impressed and found it quite the inconvenience that I wanted to pay via this method. I understand the transaction fees but this shouldn’t be customers fault. The fish was also a bit dry and rubbery and not enough chips.

Had a lovely, freshly cooked fish & chip dinner. Light & crispy batter on the fish. Eaten in.

Ordered on Deliveroo, took so long I had to call up to find out they did not have certain items I had ordered, I was not contacted to say they did not have these items and arrived 40mins after it was due, Me and My partner will not be returning.

Waste of money fish was so small very poor you have been warned don't do it avoid at all costs better off with a tin of beans go elsewhere.

A lovely place serving the classic staples and more. Very good quality of food especially the fried chicken which understandly is immensely popular so get them when you get the chance to because they do sell out quick. However, occasionally the chips are a bit hit or miss. Very friendly staff who are lovely to speak to, always go here when I crave a chippy. Would highly recommend!

This fish and chip shop changed hands a couple of years ago or so; the prices immediately went up, but the standards seem to have gone down. It seems to get closer and closer to being a very ordinary fried chicken place.

Got a burger, he literally charged 5 quid, opened a rustlers packet and put in the microwave.

Usually very good but cod and chips tonight were very poor. Suspect frozen cod as it had not taste and a poor texture. Shame as they used to be great. Won’t be rushing back

Having read other recent reviews after I ordered I was worried so I pleasantly surprised when it arrived very promptly.The Haddock was cooked beautifully and the chips which were not as crispy as I prefer were still perfectly acceptable. I generally use a well known chip shop on the Norwich Road, buy would have no problem purchasing from Neptunes. Not the best chip shop in Ipswich but perfectly decent food.

I was disappointed the fact that I was charged £1 extra to what was on their board for fish. I had to ask and she had different price menu beside her which was deceiving. The fish was small and dry but chips were lovely. Wish they would honour the price they have on display for customers otherwise change it!! All adds up

I called in here because the best Fish & Chip Shop in Ipswich is closest due to the Covid 19 virus outbreak. It was worst fish and chips I have ever had.My wife called in advance to order freshly cook large cod & chip. The first thing I have to say is it wasn’t freshly cooked, it fact it wasn’t even fresh Fisk it smelt atrocious. I live literally 3 minutes drive away so those of you who preferred freshly cook will know it’s too hot to eat when it’s freshly cook. The fish was virtually non existent, far fro large that I ordered and was just a mass of oily batter. As you can see form the picture, there is no depth so there for non chunky pieces of the white flesh of the fish you would expect.However, the worst is to come, the server had no gloves on and protected the chips in his scoop from falling with his bare hands. His hand touch the fish, the chips whilst he stacked them in the carton. Then he proceeded to use the card machine which Paid for using the contactless method. After that, he went on to serve others without washing his hands. All this with Covid 19 be prevalent.My advice if you fancy fish and chips, GO HUNGRY AND AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE

Ever since it's been taken over, it's gone severely downhill. Sausages are horrible and the chips taste absolutely disgusting.. Bring back the old bloke, the new people dont deserve to serve this food!

I rarely write reviews but this was a shambles!! I asked for a battered sausage and chips, cod bites and curry sauce. I specifically asked for extra crispy batter. I live across the road so it wasn’t OMG before I opened the paper, oh wow, the sausage batter was like pancake batter and anaemic. The Cod bites were the soggiest I have ever come across and they were so bad it looked like the cod wasn’t cooked!!! I couldn’t eat them! The curry sauce was stone cold to top it off i couldn’t even dunk my chips!

Fresh fish in batter . Very tasty and very reasonably priced,cheaper than other local fish and chip shops. Friendly staff too. Cooked to order so food was hot and not greasy. Would reccomend.

Best fish & chips for miles, lovely flakey fish Covered in the crispiest batter, cannot rate high enough, I drive 7 miles at least once every week to get it.

We've been using this fish bar since it was Fish 'n' Chick'n, Gary's, and now Nelson's. During peak times, the quality's really good and the staff always pleasant. However, stop in during a quiet time and you'll find - as other reviewers have said - rock hard, stale chips being served up. I know it's not always easy to gauge demand but, as a retailer, you have to take it on the nose if hot food becomes inedible and try to calculate better next time. It's just not worth the reputational risk to try and sell it as fresh.

Recently visited here on a lunch break. It was a very busy time of day, nevertheless we managed to get a table for a quick bite.Thankfully we were seen to quite fast and did not have too long to wait for our food.I think due to the busy day, perhaps the tables had not been wiped down to the best standard, however this wasn't a huge impact on our visit.The food was good, and good value for money! Need to invest in some wooden knifes for those eating sausages though.I would visit again.

On my first visit, the fish and chips were good. This time it was poor. Everything was very greasy and the fish was unevenly coated, with some patches that were almost bare and others that had clumps of overcooked batter.

Me and my partner were here for dinner my partner had cod and scollps. And I had sausage and a fish cake and scollps. And as always cooked to perfection NOT greasy but tender lovely cooked fish and sausage and fish cake. And the owner is always very friendly and professional at his job. Go on people give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Fui en sábado 19 de 2016 Marzo a unos 2,30 cuando no había mucha oferta y se fresco. Como consecuencia el aceite era demasiado caliente y así que el pescado estaba tomado demasiado temprano como el bateador parecía estar preparado. Por desgracia el pescado por dentro estaba cruda no lejos, mientras yo estaba al final de la carretera, así que tuve que poner en el horno al día siguiente y terminar. Aunque agradable patatas fritas, el hombre detrás de la agradable hasta. No tuve;t enfermo por el pescado, ya que parecía ser muy jugoso y, uno siempre puede decir. Es una pena, ya que estaba listo para darle 5 estrellas.

Went in for haddock and chips with the family and it's the best fish ive had for a long long time! Great service and will 100% be going back there. One of the best fish and chips we have had in years!! Keep it up and we'll be back again

If you like a piece of fish to overhang both sides of a large plate then ask for a large haddock and you won't be disappointed, having send that their normal haddock is a good size. The batter is crispy as the fish is freshly cooked, whilst they're cooking the fish I always ask for double fried chips so a portion of chips is fried again which gives the a superb crunch. Certainly a chip shop worth a visit with good value for money guaranteed.

I would not use any other fish and chip establishment in Ipswich, very warm and welcoming service, food is always great and to add to this they kindly donated as many chips as was required to a great event held, called "Sleepeasy" raising awareness for young homeless people in Suffolk this year and have offered the same generosity for next year. Enjoyed sausage chips and a drink from here for £3. Bloke that runs it is polite and friendly. Some other chip shops should take a leaf out of his book as the chips are very nice. Tables and chairs are available in an out. Will visit again.

Went in a few weeks ago now and not very often I have fish & chips....I'm fat don't get me wrong I obviously love food especially deep fried but never seem to get to the chip shop!! Anyway I digress..... After a hard days work, the partner was working late and I couldn't be bothered to go to my freezer, put some bits in the oven and wait on the sofa because let's face it I'm lazy and a bit stupid as that would of taken 20 mins but getting in my car driving across town and back before I could eat seemed a better idea? But man it was well worth the trip!! OMG loved it!! The fish tasted amazing and fresh, the service was top notch (thanks Charlie/Dario), the chips were great not over or under cooked and really tasty!! All for a really good price!!!

Staff are always friendly, love the cool hats! Always quick, which is essential as I come here on my dinner hour about 4:30pm and need to be back in about 10 minutes. Always have the battered sausage and chips, same great quality every-time always tastes fresh and not horrible and oily like some chippies. I feel that £3 is great value for this, as the quality is great.This place is a real gem to Ipswich.

The food is really good. The owners are lovely and always chat to me and my husband. The mozzarella sticks are amazing and I have them every time I go. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they welcome feedback and suggestions on other food options. You must try it.
