Visited for a cream team. Whilst in this part of the country it is rude not to try a cream tea. We were greeted by friendly staff & advised we can sit inside or out in the garden. We knew what we wanted to order so placed the order & Werner & sat in the lovely garden with wonderful views. We didn’t have long to wait for our cream tea’s & we got 2 scones which made me & my partner happy. They were one of the best we have tried. Lovely flavour with plenty of jam & cream & a decent size pot of tea. (Jam 1st then cream) , IF YOU VIAIT CLOVELLY- THIS IS A MUST FOR CREAM TEA, Oh & very reasonable price !

I had a lovely lunch at the Cottage Tea Room - an avocado salad followed by a delicious chocolate orange cake with a pot of tea. My partner had a lords tea which was a prawn sandwich, scone with jam and cream and a pot of tea. All dishes were excellent and memorable. Maybe not the cheapest meal, but I would highly recommend.

Our visit to lovely Clovelly was spoiled by our brief visit to The Cottage Tea Rooms. We were shown to our table by a young male waiter, I waited at the bottom of the fairly treacherous steps only to see my partner fall head first down the flight of about 6 or 7 deep stone steps. He hit his head on the sandwich board at the bottom and grazed his leg. Thankfully his head didn't hit the stone wall. He and we were quite shaken but my partner was okay albeit he needed to sit down. The young waiter was very concerned and asked more than once if he was okay. Five of us were going to have crab sandwiches and cream teas so the cost for lunch wouldn't have been insignificant as the food prices are on the high side. We were just about to order and an older waiter (possibly the proprietor) who we hadn't had any interaction with (even for him to check that my partner was okay) as he was passing said "stop doing that" to our 5 year old who was touching the clip of the umbrella. We thought this was very rude - not a way to talk to a child or customers. We were quite shocked at the waiters abruptness and decided to leave and on the way out I said to the waiter "that was very rude" He stopped my partner and said what does she mean, my partner told him to leave it but the waiter seemed to want an argument and there was no apology from him either, he then added angrily "and thanks for knocking the sandwich board down" (I'd propped it up). The waiter didn't care at all for the safety and welfare of his customers and being so rude shouldn't be front of house in an establishment like the Tea Rooms.

View is amazing. Scones are ok. Wasps are overwhelming. It was impossible to enjoy our overpriced creme tea with wasps constantly darting at the food and us. Tbf all of Clovelly seems to have a disproportionately large number of wasps. 😬

Dolphins and wasps… A wonderful location for a cream tea with an amazing view! We sat on the terrace for lunch and drinks. Excellent choice of GF options, with some lunch items feeling a little over priced (the Clovelly premium). Food was very well prepared with salads fresh and well dressed. The whole place was very clean and tidy, attended to regularly by staff who were polite and friendly. From our table the view over the harbour on a sunny day even offered us the bonus of a dolphin visit, clearly visible from our vantage point. The ‘fly in the ointment’ for us was the unwanted abundance of wasps during our meal. It was a problem for us and many other patrons sat around us. The staff were sympathetic, with one server saying he’d been stung six times in the last few weeks. The real disappointment was the seeming lack of willingness to minimise the wasp nuisance. I saw no wasp traps or repellents in operation. But when your customer base is made up of one-time visitors, do you need to bother?

Lunch at the Cottage Tea Room, Clovelly, Bideford, North Devon. Located along the main cobbled street in the old village of Clovelly is the Cottage Tea Room. We sat in the very picturesque garden overlooking the quay of Clovelly Village. Food was of decent quality but rather expensive compared to the many other cafes and restaurants we visited in the Bideford and North Devon area. Staff were pleasant and friendly. Final bill rather expensive for a light lunch though.

We were in the area at the start of our holiday so decided to visit Clovelly. On the way back up we decided to stop at these tea rooms for lunch. Fortunately the weather was dry and warm enough for us to sit outside and we got a great table with a great view. We ordered inside and all had the cream teas. The service was friendly and the food arrived quickly. The scones were warm with plenty of jam and cream provided. They were very tasty and plenty of debate around which order they should be applied. The pot of tea gave nearly 3 full cups of drink. Would definitely visit again if we are in the area.

I ate here with family earlier this week and had a nice cream tea. As I don’t like tea though I had hot chocolate alongside a scone instead; disappointingly the hot chocolate was nothing special, it just tasted like cheap hot chocolate powder. Fortunately though the scone compensated for this.

Our visit to Clovelly was spoiled by the appalling behaviour of the waiter in this cafe. We had been in the café earlier in the day for coffee and cake and left a very large tip. We then went back for lunch and ordered 2 sandwiches and a pot of tea. We planned to share a pot then maybe order another one after eating. When we asked for a second cup with the tea the waiter snapped “you ordered one pot of tea so you get one cup”. The policy of only one cup would have been fine with us but the way he spoke to us was very rude and aggressive. We told the other lady in there who seemed to be in charge and she spoke to him and he came back out. It looked like he’d been told to apologise. He said “I’m sorry if you think I was rude”. We told him he needed to apologise for his behaviour not for what we thought and he said “I’m sorry but I was only following company policy”. We told him that wasn’t an apology either and unless company policy was to treat customers with contempt it wasn’t even true. He then went away without apologising and presumably told the manager he had done so. All in all a pretty dreadful experience.

Nestled in the heart of Clovelly village, this unassuming cafe/tea room surprises with a delightful feature that sets it apart from the rest – breathtaking views of the harbour and beyond. While the sandwiches and lunch mains may be average, the real treat lies in the panoramic views that comes with the outside seating. We had a few varieties of sandwiches, quiche and devon dressed crab, all of them were pretty average with a distinct lack of flavour and priced quite a way off what they would cost if it was sold somewhere else. An average rating based on the quality of the food.

A sweet little tea room and a perfect place to stop and grab a bite to eat. We tried the Devon cream tea, which was absolutely delicious. The girls serving were really friendly, bright and accommodating. I would give this little gem a five star, but the only reason I didn’t was the endless flies in the dining room - but I understand controlling this must be hard when the front door was kept open from incoming guests constantly.

I don’t intend to offend with this review however the experience described in other reviews is not what we had at all. We ordered the lord’s tea at £16pp and it was ok - crab sandwich was very disappointing for a seaside resort but scones and tea were ok. The view is lovely which draws you in however the flies and wasps are a real issue and every table spent more time batting them away than enjoying their food. Clearing the tables and wiping them down efficiently would definitely have helped with that. There was a sort of ‘dumping table’ of plates and the wasps were just all over it. When we went inside to order there was a poor family sat near the counter and there had to be about 20 flies and wasps around them. The boy serving on the counter offered no advice or help to them about what to do as they were swatting bugs away and trying to eat. There was a wasp and a fly inside the display cabinet. In hindsight we should have left and not placed an order but as we had walked down based on good reviews and were there we stuck with it. Perhaps they were short staffed on this occasion.

The waiter or he could be the proprietor was extremely rude , impertinent, discourteous and aggressive manner !! Firstly as I walked to a table I saw this rude man shouting at a lovely elderly lady accusing her of pushing in ! I looked around it wasn’t busy and lots of empty tables !! She replied saying my husband is ordering at the counter and I needed to sit down for a rest , he escorted her out yelling at her ! And in the process starting shouting at me saying and that goes for you lady ! I was just about to sit down as my partner was just on the way to the counter! I didn’t say anything back to him as I was in disbelief of this mans behaviour!! Not a gentleman!!! I was a proprietor of a very popular coffee shop/bistro , I would never have spoken to customers like that ! We also were on the national news and local papers for our invention of the Wimbledon oatcake , people came from all over for this unusual delicacy and we never had a bad review!! This man needs to have life coaching in people skills !!! ... The other retailers were lovely in the shops especially the RNLI where were purchased some lovely items !! If you are looking for something to eat at this lovely village there are 2 kiosks selling Devonshire pasties and sausage rolls ! The pastie was lovely!! Read the other reviews! The young staff are all fine, but the proprietor is unhelpful, grumpy and unpleasant. There are signs all over the walls about all the things you aren't allowed to do (share a pot of tea between two, move any of the furniture etc.), and he was totally unwilling to give an indication of his wait time, he just shrugged and stared at us.The scones were nice, though the portions aren't great for the price, and don't forget he'll charge you an extra £1.50 per portion if you ask for butter!I'm a reasonable man, so I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but in this case and from reading the other reviews it's clear that you can expect churlishness if you choose to eat here.Have you ever seen the live-action remake of Fawlty Towers? Well we arrived and walked down and so looking forward to the visit. We followed the directions, it was raining - order at the front then get seated. They only have 3 or 4 umbrellas and we were seated in the rain with no umbrella. We said that eating and drinking in he rain was not our idea of fun but the older gent just grumbled at us and had a few choice words. So didn’t want it to spoil our visit I ran all the way back to the car to get umbrellas and ran back down. Not the kind of service you would expect my husband had managed to move to an umbrella with much disapproval from this man .. All they had to do was tell us when ordering that you may be sat in the rain and we would have chosen not to.The younger members were much, much nicer however given this experience we wouldn’t visit again, we are an easy going family and luckily didn’t get grumpy or nasty back just accepted he was clearly having a bad day and we got the brunt of it. Afternoon tea was ok just spoilt by the experience after spending £40 there .. we did go to the cafe at the top which will be getting five stars great service .... so the pointers from this is be aware that if it’s raining there may be no umbrella and avoid the not so happy man.

My partner and I visited today and we had a lovely meal at lunch. He had the fisherman’s lunch, which included two beautifully cooked mackerel fillets and salad. I had quiche. It was really lovely and the views from the outside tables were spectacular. My only negative feedback was the welcome that we and others patrons were given. The young man on the door was very short with us, and when we asked if one of us could order and the other grab a table, he wouldn’t let us. He didn’t seem to understand that we didn’t want to order if there wasn’t a table available, so we just wanted to check the garden. When we did manage to order, we sat outside and it was great. Another family came in and the lady with them, older than us, sat down to catch her breathe whilst her family member ordered. A male member of staff came out and very loudly said ‘did you not read the sign? You need to stand over there’. The lady tried to explain that she only had one lung and that she was exhausted after the tiresome walk, but in our opinion he was very short with her and demanded she stand to the side. I completely appreciate that he is trying to be careful because of COVID and that he needs to sterilise the table, but we felt that he could have quietly asked her to wait aside, rather than embarrassing her in front of everyone. The whole garden area went silent and it was very uncomfortable! Finally, when we were leaving we noticed another customer speaking to the waiter that initially served us. She was trying to explain to him that she wanted to have her drink and cake in the garden as a table had become available. He refused to let her, even when she asked to change her order to eat in and to pay more. With three empty tables outside, he was adamant she couldn’t stay, saying it’s policy that orders cannot be amended. I really want to make it clear that I loved the food and drink, and that I know we all need to be extra careful at the moment. Extra care must be taken and the staff are clearly trying to keep customers and themselves safe. However, I just feel that there was an atmosphere from the two male members of staff (the female waitress was lovely) and I wanted to feedback as we heard two other families talking about it as we left. I would hate for you to lose business, but I fear you aren’t being too accommodating and I thought it important to share our experience, especially as we witness two other customers leaving the queue to go elsewhere.

A very handy and well located tea room to enjoy the charm of Clovelly. The staff is welcoming and the menu is interesting. However I was disappointed with the overall quality of the food (tuna sandwich with no mayonnaise or butter, I had to get an individual packet of cheap mayonnaise from the counter; underwhelming soft scone with runny strawberry jam). The decoration could also be a bit more personal, and the China less rough...

We stopped at the tea rooms on our walk back up to the visitor centre and were glad we did! We had lunch followed by a scone - freshly cooked that day and absolutely gorgeous! Fantastic service and reasonable prices - would definitely return and recommend to anyone visiting Clovelly

Simply stunning view and lovely tea. I had the cake of the day, Avocado and Zucchini which was a bit sweet but soft and fluffy. Kind friendly service at a reasonable price. What more can you ask for!

Their policy is only to provide one cup for a couple ordering a cream tea. Very petty in my opinion. This is the only tea house where this has happened. Otherwise, lovely place.

A tiny little Tea Room with a lot of charm and excellent service. There is a large outside area to sit if you prefer, I can highly recommend a Cream Tea here!

I wish they did none dairy milk as the only real cafe in Clovelly it’s a shame they don’t have an alternative milk on the menu as meant I had to sit with nothing while friend had cream tea. :(

As anyone who was ever been there will know, walking about Clovelly with its steep hills and no vehicles is an easy way to work up an appetite. The Cottage Tea Room fit the bill. I had an excellent Devon cream tea (coffee) the game with two scones an excellent clotted cream and jam. My wife had coffee and a piece of cake. Both were excellent. They gave us the energy to climb the long hill and steps back up to the car park.

Netter Tea Room.

While visiting Clovelly we stopped here for a drink. I had a cookie which was very nice and the Pepsi was Pepsi. I’m told the tea and coffee was excellent and the scones were good too. Staff were friendly and helpful. It is busy but if you can grab a table outside the view is incredible.

We called in here on a visit to Clovelly. This place is about halfway down to the harbour a good point to take a break as you climb the hill. We ordered two ploughman’s lunches which were very tasty. Lovely warm bread nice cheese and ham with some very good chutney.

We visited on a lovely day and enjoyed the food and drink. Friendly staff, very generous portions (my friend’s baguette was crammed full of prawns) and spectacular views make this a very worthwhile pit stop on the way up or down the legendary Clovelly steps.

The two marks are for the wonderful view, lovely waiting staff and good tea, sadly no points were scored for the food. We had a mackerel salad and a ‘devon’ ham salad. Sadly the ham was processed ham, the mackerel was so incredibly salty we couldn’t eat it and the bread was served with margarine instead of butter. Surely butter is a must when served fresh bread?!

The tea room is in a lovely spot, overlooking the sea and there is a good choice of indoor and outdoor seating. The menu looked a little limited but we persevered and ordered a sausage sandwich, a baguette and a kid's lunch. The food was really bland, small portions and the presentation pretty poor. Quite disappointing as it wasn't overly cheap. Wouldn't return.

Fantastic food and service! Hidden gem of a pub which I know the locals won’t want anyone knowing! Best burger I’ve had in a long long time :)

We have heard that a new chef is just starting work here. Perhaps this explains our sorry excuse for a meal. For the record we have had several excellent if pricey meals at this restaurant. This meal was pricey but a million miles from excellent. There was a weird-tasting buttersquash soup oddly paired with a far from fresh hard pork pie apparently found in the freezer, a tiny square of cheese and a portion of chutney. Did they run out of bread? Apparently knives were also in short supply because we ended up sharing one between us. There was an oddly flavoured sausage roll type thing with almost raw cabbage, fried carrots in skins and a separate dish from which three lonely roast potatoes contemplated this culinary car crash - and which were the only pleasantly edible items. All this in a restaurant formerly well-regarded for its excellent home-grown vegetables. We felt ill afterwards. We noted during our visit although the gardens were quite busy with family visitors few of them chose to eat in the restaurant. We did wonder why - and now we know. Rosemoor is not a cheap day out and hard-pressed families are not going to add to the expense of visiting the gardens with a bad expensive meal. Other restaurants are available and sadly we can't consider coming back unless we see clear evidence of improvement in Tripadvisor reviews.

The van runs a generator all day to power the van, noisy and polluting. must be a greener way to run a business.

Ate here twice. Food is reasonably priced. However, no fish in the fish pie and I am 100% sure that our fish n chips came from the local chippy. No way was this cooked on site. Another meal had totally different chips served. And I definitely wouldn’t order from whatever chippy it was! Staff v nice, service good and some music we heard was absolutely fantastic. We would return but will be selective in what we order.

A cosy, traditional Devon country pub serving a good Sunday lunch. The staff were very welcoming and the locals charming to chat with. We enjoyed a roast beef lunch with the trimmings, and a delicious bowl of bread pudding and custard. Good value at under £20 each and a lovely place to be on a rainy winters day. Car park just across the road on the A386, don't drive by, stop and decide what you think.
