We spent two memorable days in The Cottage Hotel, Hope Cove. What treat it was having that fabulous view from our cosy rooms. The service was excellent with the friendly, obliging staff creating a welcoming atmosphere. The food is of a high standard and is reasonably priced.

A lovely genteel hotel with outstanding views over Hope Cove both indoor & outdoor seating. Family run lovely staff & a fabulous cream tea. If you want the full afternoon tea( sandwiches, cakes, scones etc) you’ll need to book at least 24hours in advance. The Devon cream tea was unbearably good - 2 big scones each with lashings of clotted cream & jam with tea or coffee was very generous and worth the £8.50. What a perfect afternoon it was

An absolute hidden gem at Hope Cove. Has a nostalgic feeling of a seaside hotel from childhood but do not be put off from the dated decor. The service was above and beyond. We were celebrating a wedding anniversary and my husband's birthday and they even typed a special menu and decorated our dining table. The attention of service in the restaurant was impeccable. There are not many places today where you are made to feel appreciated as a guest and nothing is too much to ask. Fabulous views of the beach. Room wasn't anything special but service, location and calm atmosphere left is wanting to return.

I absolutely loved this place. It's a traditional seaside hotel. With some of the best views you could ask for. The service was exceptional, well more than that, it was the best service I've had in a long long time!! like how hotels used to be. The food was amazing the breakfast had everything you needed, It has an old fashioned style with an older clientele, but don't judge a book by its cover and try it. You will have a peaceful romantic or just a fun-filled trip. I've travelled a lot and stayed in many hotels. Never have I had quality service and such friendly staff who were there for the guest as much as this team.

Booked lunch ahead finding many others fully booked. What a result that they were...the sunday lunch was terrific, a proper lunch! The Cottage is a little traditional for our usual choice but this was far outweighed by the service and quality of food. Weve seen elsewhere comments on Covid measures but we found them not at all unreasonable...wear a mask for a bit whilst in circulation spaces and stay spaced out on checking in...nothing challenging here. The Cottage is known for it's amazing views and we enjoyed them whilst dining on properly cooked fare with great service. Will return

It looks as though dogs are allowed in the sitting room area near the entrance but not in the bar. This is a traditional hotel with an interesting history, and the bar area has a great view. Obviously loved by older people. We chose the two course meal for £15, and enjoyed both starters and mains. Service fine, staff pleasant, a proper dinner, not a pomegranate seed in sight. We were invited here for Sunday lunch by a relative and it was a very pleasant surprise. I had the seafood platter for starters (it was delicious) and asked for gluten free bread for the toast. No quibble at all, just a question asking if I wanted my bread roll replacing with a gluten free one. My main course was lemon sole and when it arrived the waiter asked who the gluten free one was for. I was really impressed - I didn't know there was a gluten free option to go for and thought this was excellent. The sweet trolley looked great - I assumed the fruit pavlova was gluten free but would expect they would have the details of all the desserts to let me know. A week at Hope Cove with my wife wouldn't be complete with Sunday lunch at the Cottage Hotel. This is probably the tenth time we've eaten here on a Sunday and it won't be the last. We had a pre lunch drink in the lounge, which is a nice start to an enjoyable occasion. Three courses for £19, including after dinner tea/coffee. My wife chose the mushroom risotto with mozzarella parcels for starter, which she said was delicious. I plumbed for the lamb kebab, nan bread, raita potatoes and salad. Very nice. We both chose the roast beef for the main, with Yorkshire pudding, roast and boiled potatoes and mixed veg. The beef was beautifully cooked and melted in the mouth. Great Yorkshire puds and roasters. For desert my wife chose the Bakewell tart with a small dish of trifle, whereas I went for the apple crumble and cream. Both proved to be an ideal pudding and were greatly enjoyed. A bottle of Rye Mill Chardonnay proved to be a suitably light accompaniment. All in all a very satisfying meal and highly recommended.

One cream tea could probably feed two people and my pot of tea went a long way too. The owners are I believe second generation. They keep a close eye on proceedings, and they give excellent service. They are always maintaining the premises, but they do not change the old fashioned feel of the place, which makes it unusual.Something which we treasure. It is not swish..it is genuine.Food is again a little old fashioned in particulate the amazing sweet trolly, which people adore. It has wonderful views of the beach and the sea out towards Thurlstone and Burgh Island. I would say that if you want complete informality, to sit at formica tables surrounded by people in trainers and baseball hats, this isn't the place for you.If however you want to dress nicely and be treated with respect and courtesy and have a lovely traditional enjoyable and relaxed dining experience you must try the Cottage Hotel. They can't do enough to make your stay enjoyable, for example when we were married a few years ago, I let slip when I booked that we were staying to celebrate for a few days before our honeymoon proper. We checked into the room and were presented with a card, complimentary champagne and flowers, a lovely touch. 10/10

Let me start off by saying, I love this place. Had Sunday lunch here on many occasions and it's brilliant, good food, great staff and an all round nice place. However, my wife and I visited one weekday and both ordered the two course lunch. I ordered a fish cake to start and it was very nice. We both ordered the same main, sea bream and potatoes and veg. The fish in itself was nice but the skin was rather slimey and not crisp, as it should have been. One of the vegetables served with it was cabbage, which made no sense at all. Cabbage with pan fried fish? That's a new one to me and not something I'd like to sample again. The pud my wife chose was summer pudding, which she said was delicious. We'll go again but choose a different main course.

We ate in the restaurant each night of our stay and enjoyed it. After a days walking the five course meal is welcome, we found the portions plentiful. The staff are attentive and I was given an amended menu each night showing which meals could be served gluten free. The sweet trolley is a sight to see, or there is the option of the cheeseboard if you still have room. The atmosphere is relaxed and afterwards we spent time watching the sun set and talking with fellow guests about the various coastal walks in the area.

Ok food, yummy. Really tasty, decent portions, best thing though was the desert trolley (yes trolley..)So much choice and they are as good as they look (no pics you'll have to see for yourself). Pavlova & lime with ginger cheesecake. Seriously good. Fresh locally caught fish for starters and main, excellent chefs. Service. Classic, wait staff are very traditional. excellent. Very professional. Prompt. Caring. Food was promptly delivered and if we wanted more veg we could have it. Really made to feel valued. Decor was dated, 1970s. Which when the service was 50s, and we were the youngest guests in the room by around 40 years it was a little odd, but look past that and you focus on the food, the flavour and the service this is a worthy restaurant. Definitely would recommend. Considering 3 courses are just shy of £20 for guests and under £24 for non guest, it's very well priced for what you get. If you stay in hope cove. Have dinner here. Excellent.

Sunday lunch is just £19 for 3 courses plus coffee. The restaurant has wonderful views over Hope Cove and coffee can be taken in the lounge area which is very comfortable. Excellent place.

Lunch was amazing. Dealt well with a big group and food was delicious. Sweet potato gnocchi with curried sweetcorn and kale was transcendentally good! Strongly recommend.

We all had the 3 course dinner. The reception and the service throughout were excellent. All rated the whole evening a great success. All were able to make their own choices. We look forward to returning on another occasion.
