Lunch was amazing. Dealt well with a big group and food was delicious. Sweet potato gnocchi with curried sweetcorn and kale was transcendentally good! Strongly recommend.

Called in for an early supper before heading to Ashburton Arts to see a Nat King Cole homage, had a fabulous meal with wonderful service !

There is an utterly justifiable reason there are so many Five Star reviews. Elinor and her team are 'outstanding' and the food is excellent. Chef Iain has a great pedigree (training), experience and philosophy to food. His cooking on coals is wonderful. Finally, someone who knows how to cook mushrooms & livers. A delicious, varied and substantial Sunday roast. A sensible Wine List with regards to choice and price. Fantastic surroundings with a great atmosphere. Yes, off the beaten track, therefore the food has to be good as expressed in previous reviews, but WELL worth the extra effort to find it.

Wow! We visited for the first time (although we only live 20 minutes away) and will definitely return. All four of us had excellent meals. There was a new Autumn menu. I had a vegetarian dish- marinated celeriac, sliced very thinly with a tasty sauce and stir fry. Someone else described their meal (sweet potato gnocchi with mushrooms and the most amazingly tasty sauce) as one of the best meals they had ever had. Great rice pudding and we loved the “chocolate soil” with the ice cream. In summary: The waiting staff were friendly and helpful, excellent menu, amazing food, lovely atmosphere. Recommended!

Superb village gastro pub with extremely welcoming staff. Attentative service in a comfy stylish stripped-back environment, set in a lovely village. The food is high quality with detailed presentation and reasonably priced. The pubs own pork chop = sensational 👍👌✅

We tried the Live and Let Live Pub having read a review about it on the Muddy Stilettos website. It described it as an under the radar gem of a pub and we couldn’t agree more. The ambience, customer service and food is second to none. One of the best Sunday dinners we have ever had in a restaurant. Often they can be ok or disappoint but not here. The beef was cooked to perfection and the cauliflower cheese out of this world. Everything we had from the starters to the main to the pudding was fabulous. I am a weirdo and love rice pudding which certainly did not disappoint. We will definitely be back.

Top class service and food! Sunday lunch is out of this world. Attention to detail cannot be faulted here. The chef and team were so helpful making amendments to suit my dietary requirements. Cannot recommend high enough...just wish we lived closer as we'd be here a lot if we did!

Best Sunday Roast ever....I have tried this roast almost every week for the past year. Anything can happen but you know it will be amazing every single time.

Sunday lunch. The pot roasted lamb was outstanding. While it's not cheap, the food is great quality and a generous portion. 10/10.

Just back from an outstanding lunch at Live and let Live . Head Chef Ian has devised a superb menu that does full justice to the local provenance of his ingredients . Jewel coloured dishes overflowing with flavour were served alongside some fabulous wines . Ian’s cooking is Michelin star quality at pub prices . He is incredibly creative but there are no gimmicks - beautiful combinations of ingredients pulled together to deliver palate busting dishes . He is a fabulous Chef . The service was excellent and some lovely jazz played out live on the front terrace completed a really special day . We are massive foodies and could not fault this gem of a pub. We are spoilt in Devon with so many great places to eat but we will be returning time and time again I am sure .

One of the best meals we’ve had in long long time out. Ours was Sunday roast, exceptionally prepared and presented. Service was sleek and effortless. Honestly 10/10 can’t wait to go back for second try! Bravo!

Amazingly great Sunday Roast. We thought we'd died and gone to roast pork heaven!! The home smoked roast pork was so delicious and for the crackling lovers out there... be prepared !! Fantastic wine list, post lunch cocktails and wonderful service... cannot wait to go back.

Sunday lunch for 9 had last week. We are all big foodies. Unanimously we agreed that this was the best Sunday lunch we have eaten out ever! 11/10 review for thr chef. Presentation excellent. Taste excellent. The smoked flavour came through all their meats. Rarely am I satisfied with the fluffiness and crunch of a roast potato - these were superb. The roast was succulent and bursting with flavour. The vegetables good very well. The stuff with great flavour. I will be back very soon. I couldn't reccomend more highly! Having lived in Devon for over 10 years this is the best Sunday roast I've found in the entire County.

So excited to see this village pub reopening in these difficult times for the sector. Greeted by the new owner, friendly and engaging. A reassuringly short menu and the food was absolutely delicious and top quality. You may have to wait a little while but as I explained I would worry if it arrived too quickly. The owner clearly has a long and successful time in hospitality, currently owning two other pubs. Two of his three chefs worked for famous celebrity chefs and the other for another outstanding village pub in Devon. Another gem in the depths of the glorious Devon countryside. Delicious food and great service. I had a vegetarian main, roasted celeriac with wild mushrooms in a really good sauce. I absolutely loved it and my husband had steak baguette with I think mash, again he said it was superb and very reasonable prices for the quality of food too. We will definitely;y be going back :)

Discovered this little gem tucked away on Dartmoor….. Guiness was perfect ! Friendly owner and staff. Can’t wait to go back and sample the smoked delights..

Wow wow wow So glad that we heard that this pub had been bought by the owner of the 7 stars and had persuaded the amazing chef Ian to come to chef here. We had an incredible meal. Scotch egg, Cullen skink, roast chicken, moules and the most amazing pasta. Even pudding was amazing. Great find, we will be here again without a doubt. Miss this at your peril.

Amazing! As good, if not better than before! We were regular visitors of this pub before it closed, it was our favourite country bolthole & we were gutted when it shut. We were so thrilled to hear it had opened again and wow, it did not disappoint. The service, ambiance, food & drink exceeded all expectations! The ingredients are top quality & clearly very fresh. Fantastic service, best food I have had all winter with a menu that isn’t mimicking neighbouring eateries. The sea bass was divine and I had the best rice pudding I’ve ever tasted!

Had a wonderful Sunday roast, attentive and friendly service and the food was outstanding. The new Head Chef has a reputation in the local area for quality cooking and he did not disappoint. This is the best Sunday roast in South Devon!! Very good value for money for high quality ingredients on the plate. Keeping to seasonal items is also much appreciated. Will be returning very soon.

The Live and Let Live pub has new management and our first visit was a memorable evening. These days, meals out are a treat, so even the small details matter about a venue, from the moment you walk in, to the moment you leave. The Live and Let Live did not disappoint. The service, food and ambience were of the highest quality. Looking forward to our next visit.

This place has been my favourite for years but when it was recently taken over I was worried the food would suffer BUT it’s even better than the last time. The new team are lovely and the chef is amazing. Ellie who was working the whole time I stayed is amazing. I came with an elderly grandmother and she literally helped me carry her up every step to the bathroom. Nothing is too much trouble for these guys and the new owner was also here when I was - he knows what he’s doing with this place and I am so happy they have taken over. He had some really cool ideas. This place is the best when local to Ashburton, Buckfastleigh or Landscove. The rooms are great as well! Highly recommend!

We went back here after it has been shut a few months, we were disappointed with the huge cost increase. Food was nice yes, but, didn’t reflect the price hike as it was delicious before and reasonably priced, we’re not sure why? Service was a bit slow and seemed unorganised. It was a shame as this was a gem of a place for amazing food, a wonderful welcome and all without over charging. There are other local places we will be frequenting.

Wedding party staying at Anran came here the night before the wedding. The only food available were three types of curry, all delicious. The curries were served with a naan and a popadom. One of the curries was a vegetarian option. The cost of each curry was about £15. The Inn has recently changed ownership and is now owned by locals.

Stayed here for a few days for a wedding up the road at Anran. Great service. Clean, smart. Couldn’t do enough to help. Comfortable room bathroom and bed. Highly recommended. Pub downstairs. Good food and drinks.

Came as a party of 17 for Sunday lunch in the private dining area. Everyone in the party commented how lovely the food was, piping hot, great portion sizes and beautifully cooked and presented. Would most defiantley reccomend. The team headed up by Kalim were kind, professional and welcoming.

Delicious and great value! We went to the Wednesday night’s regular Thai night with authentic Thai food cooked by their guest chef. The set menu was delicious, chicken green curry, spring rolls and a fresh crunchy green mango salad with a zingy dressing. All the flavours of Thailand and great value at only £15/head. There were vegetarian options too. You can help yourself to Prawn Crackers and condiments which is a nice touch. The service was also excellent, friendly and professional. The menu changes each week, we found it on the website. We were not disappointed!

Friday night, Pizza Night - the tastiest pizza outside of Italy! Good choice, excellent ingredients, authentic and delicious. Excellent service and attention, even though there was a large pre-wedding party going on. Highly recommend.

Fantastic Sunday lunch. As usual Sunday lunch was awesome. Roast beef is cooked medium rare - the best, great veg and the yorkshires are amazing. Desert was hot chocolate mousse with raspberry coulis. Lovely service can’t recommend higher!

Four of us came for a Coronation Lunch on 7 May ! The food was as delicious,as always, at Live and Let Live - and the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming - again as always.This is a quite superb restaurant- the best food I have eaten in all of Devon.

We booked Live and Let Live for Sunday lunch when we were staying close by with friends. It was truly awesome and we all agreed the best pub Sunday lunch any of us had ever had. The food was amazing, the staff were lovely and they were so accommodating with the children, including no hard sell on children’s meals for the two youngest members of the party. We would definitely recommend this lovely place to others and would make a point of coming back here if we are in the area again.

L&LL Inn is a gem of a pub in a beautiful part of South Devon. It has a warm and inviting atmosphere, the service and food is amazing and the pub interior is pleasing on the eye. I thoroughly recommend this lovely pub.

What a find!!! Sunday lunch was out of this world! Roast potatoes to die for!! The vibe was so friendly and the staff very attentive and polite, we were made to feel so welcome. I’m gluten free and the only thing I couldn’t eat were the Yorkshire puds - no great shame for the hips 😅 my husband made short work of the extra pud! Definitely going back!!

The recent change of owner has produced super food with a French touch. Since New Year, the service has also vastly improved with the arrival of two very capable guys. The wine list has bucked up and we have eaten royally three times in 2022....

Whether a la carte or the Sunday roast, the food is top notch, a cut above comparable gastropubs. This french chef certainly delivers. The service is friendly, the atmosphere convivial and it's reasonably priced. It's worth the journey and we will be back.

Visited on a beautiful sunny evening, lovely outside area to enjoy pre dinner drinks. We were given the option to eat inside or out by the staff and opted to eat inside, and the surroundings did not disappoint. Comfortable seating, nicely spaced tables, eclectic decor.Food was fantastic, scallops cooked beautifully, steak cooked as asked and a great portion of mussels - all presented beautifully- compliments to the chef 5* Great use and choice from local suppliersStaff young but enthusiastic, however inexperience unfortunately showed and we felt for the front of house lead trying to keep an eye on her team as she was providing brilliant service.This aside we will definitely be visiting again, a little gem in south Devon countryside.

This pub had a great atmosphere and friendly staff (we really liked Brandon in particular). The menu is relatively red meat heavy, but we really enjoyed the duck and the vegetarian tagine. The apple crumble was really nice too. We are looking forward to coming back to this gem of a pub.

In a nutshell the food here was really good but the service was woeful. We went there with friends for our 10th wedding anniversary and after a drink outside we took our seats (we worked out which was our reserved table ourselves). 20 mins after sitting down and nobody coming to the table I eventually went up to the bar and asked for some service. When the drinks finally arrived the barman place the wine on the table and walked off. I then had to call him back to actually uncork it. We had to request butter for our bread twice before it appeared, the starter plates were cleared from three out of four of our party with the other being left there until the mains turned up. After the mains they cleared our plates (all of us this time) but then didn't come back to offer any desserts until after about 15 minutes we called the waiting staff over ourselves. After dessert they took our coffee orders and after 40 minutes of waiting my wife went over to the waitresses, standing by the coffee machine, to ask where our coffees were, only to be told that they weren't doing coffee that night, despite taking our order. It is such a shame that the front of house team were so poorly trained, they were perfectly pleasant and polite just terribly inexperienced when the food itself was actually very good. Hopefully someone will come in as a FOH manager and train the team up to an acceptable level, at which point this will be a good place to come.

We looked up"closest pub" to us.The Live.....came up.Young staff a little nervous but courteous.Good beers,food excellent(l had ox cheeks).I give it 4 rather than 5 as the menu is an acquired taste,which for me was great,but it needs a few pie and chips etc.we will go again,though.

This is was first little “family” holiday break, Just me my partner and our 9 month old pup benji. Firstly we were greeted by a lovely man called Nick as soon as we pulled up, helping us by advising the owner that we had arrived and needed to check in. He was so friendly!! Our room firstly blew us away, it’s absolutely stunning. Some places you get to and the pictures look better than real life, but for us it was the other way round.. real life was better. After our days out we wanted to come back to the room just to put the telly on just to snuggle up in blankets for an hour before dinner enjoying our lovely view out the window, so relaxing! We were in room 1, the lower room out of the three available. I can’t lie you can hear noises from the room above but it didn’t phase us. The first night we booked for dinner at 7pm. We had never been to dinner with our dog before so we knew it might be a challenge for us. As soon as we walked in, it just made me feel so calm! Nick greeted us again with his warm smile making us feel right at home... he had a wonderful fire going which kept us nice and cosy throughout the whole evening. For starters we had the truffle fat chips and squid to share, for mains the ox cheek and beef fillet and for dessert poached bear and fruit crumple. It was simply one of the best meals we have ever eaten!!! The starters were delicious, the ox cheek had Asian flavours and fell apart, the fillet of beef was cooked to perfection!! But the dessert it what made it for us.. I hate pears and poached pear I just wanted to give it a go, it had dark chocolate and cream running through it and it was absolutely incredible!! My partner loves a crumble he said it was the best crumble he had, and nick asked him what he thought of it, and added the rhubarb in it was actually grew in his garden which just made us smile!We thanked the chefs even after the first meal and told them we had to book in again for a second night and we sure did... the menu had some extras added to it! So the next evening we had scollops to start instead, this time I had the beef fillet and my partner had the pork tenderloin and this time we BOTH had poached pears. Again one of the best meals we had ever eaten!! We love our food, so when we say it’s Michelin quality, we mean it. We have eaten in many Michelin’s and this place was up there with one of the best meals we have ever eaten. We both thanked the chefs again at the end of our second meal because they deserved it!We will be back on a regular basis for some long weekends for sure. The food was delicious - especially the truffle fries. The service was awful. There was no one in charge with any customer service skills and the waitresses, although charming, were totally untrained. A girl behind the bar was lounging and drinking out of a large water bottle throughout the evening. The food was so good that we will happily give it a second chance but we hope for their sake they get in someone with hospitality experience to train the front of house staff.

Our first visit to our local pub since a change of owners. The food was absolutely fantastic all round- between us we had the pork loin, steak and fish and chips and couldn’t have been better- mouthwatering and all local product

Have had fabulous meals here before but when I attended for curry night, disappointed doesn’t quite reach the mark. Service was shocking, didn’t get all dishes that were listed, salad was missed off. Waitress who must have dropped more glasses and dishes than not, didn’t even apologise or offer a discount. Ingredients seemed different to those listed. Only flavour that I could taste was an excessive use of salt. The naan bread was very good but there was a lack of rice and we didn’t finish our curries as the taste was so poor. The zero waste night I went to last year was excellent, food was above and beyond, think this is why I was so disappointed.

I don't know how thay make them that shape - you will just have to visit to see what I mean.. This pub is currently only open for four lunchtimes a week. They do not seem to be busy. A pity. They deserve to be. Good food, reasonably priced in relaxed surroundings.

Quite remote and accesible only via narrow lanes. Worth a visit but midday opening hours are limited so check their website if you want to go there for lunh.

Wow wow wow what else can I say.We came across this place today what a find. I had the caramel espresso martini to start. Then the mushrooms on toast. Followed by the slow roast pork. All of it was amazing and we cant wait to return.
