The Cottage in Dudley

I think the Cottage Inn Kingswinford has recently changed hands and the food has gone really downhill. This was very evident by the fact that this pub, where you previously struggled to get a table for Sunday lunch was empty. I wish we had read the mood and noted that change before ordering a carvery. We have been many times and had always had an excellent carvery before but yesterday, the meat was tough, vegetables virtually raw and the whole meal was generally sub standard. The service at the carvery was also very slow and the staff generally seemed disinterested. Whoever is now running this pub take note that people are no longer returning and word of mouth will spread fast. We won’t be returning either!

Service absolutely awful food cold 🥶 we will never use it again. Very disappointed to say the least. Whilst eating my sister arrived she had the carvery also complained about the food cold and not good 😐

Not impressed at all but hubby did enjoy his cottage pie, I had a small jacket with tuna and a small salad ! Loads of lettuce , one slice of cucumber and a piece of tomato with 2 small rings of onion, I left my mug of coffee, it was filled right to the very top , in a dirty mug and very strong and bitter coffee. Sorry not for me , sorry , we will not be returning.

Need to learn how to serve in the right way and food is not nice mine was cold when I said something they did not like it won’t go back

Great value for money. The homemade chips were amazing. The only fault was that our steaks were meant to be medium but done slightly over.. but still tasted great. Would defo go back again.

Absolute nightmare, never again we spent £41 and we received only 3/4 of our delivered order!! Tried calling 47 times over a day and half and they never answered the phone, it rings that long the call cancels itself, taken my money and no way if rectifying it!! I’d stay well clear and order from elsewhere

Wonderful country style pub in Kingswinford village. Food first class, beers definitely worth good beer guide. Outside plants look great too, now Manager changed pub is improving greatly

Old style pub. Husband had the famed cottage pie and reported that it was excellent. Generous portion, served with chips and peas. Good quality meat and gravy, generous topping of cheese. Chilli with rice, was decent as well. Reasonable prices for what was served - makes a change from overpriced meals offered in so many places now.

Ordered a carvery and whilst it looked promising it tasted appalling. The mash tasted like it was made with gone of milk, The beef was dry and hard to cut and the veg had a strange gone off sour taste. Feeling sick just at the thought of it, 24 hours later I’ve still not got my appetite back. Please taste the food before serving. Or serve fresh. Edit: After looking through other reviews, i noticed one lady that pointed out they only do carvery’s on a Sunday now. Having ordered the carvery on a Wednesday im assuming that was why the food tasted as if it had gone off. 🤢

Excellent service. Extremely friendly and a cosy atmosphere. Were very helpful as we had a vegetarian and a vegan with us. The vegetarian lasagna and the vegan masala curry were absolutely delicious; the masala meal was one of the best vegan ones I have tried. I will definitely be returning again with more vegans to try the curry. Thank you. I have included a photo but because of the naan bread you cannot see that it also came with rice.

I live in Birmingham, so I went to kingswinford,to dog and cat sitting, and I went into the cottage inn, the staff are very helpful and friendly, I will definitely go back,

Came in for lunch today and there was a lovely atmosphere. Lady behind the bar was attentive and lovely. Ordered cajun chicken and gammon for my partner and I. Food arrived and it was so lovely. My cajun chicken was delicious. The homemade chips are simply the best! Lovely to have such variety with salad and veg on the plate. The menu is great. Would hugely recommend the food. Fair price too! Thank you

Havent been my apologies for one star

We ordered from Uber eats for the first time today using the cottage inn. Firstly , the delivery guy was polite and friendly. The jacket potato and tuna was ok...but the steak meal was another story. The steak was a reasonable cut and not tough, sadly it was well done and not medium. The chips were cremated and were really poor. The onion rings very dark brown but not quite as bad as the chips. The meal was supposed to come with garden peas... Nope , no peas. All in all, very disappointing.

Disgusting I ordered 2 carverys with trimming plus paid extra for extra meat one came with beef which you could pull apart never mind chew eat the other was turkey and beef no beef and 2 end piece of dry bits missing some veg and no Yorkshire pudding rang them didn't want to know said had the same joint on and no complaints all day .I'm a chef myself and I wouldn't have served it to my clients plus holding food only lasts 2 hours so obviously don't not hygiene reg

Definately the worst food I have had the misfortune to try. The chips must have been reheared 3 or 4 times they were so rubbery as was the meat and gravy in the pie. The vegetables were reportedly carrotts but did not look, feel or taste like any veg I've ever haf!

Stopped here after read some good reviews so was looking forward to some tasty home cooked food, but very disappointed in menu, asked what fish it was they said it was cod, but it was Pollock and batter was way over done, chips well and truly over done looked like they have cooked four or five times. Yes I do know what I am talking about I have done catering for many years in the army if I had severed my meal up to the troops I would have been in a lot of trouble. Will never under any circumstances eat here again. Drink yes eat no.

Went for Sunday Carvery Lunch on 28th April When we arrived, we were explained to that they had been extremely busy beforehand - and that they were in the process of refilling the Carvery with fresh food. This was fine by us, as we are more than prepared to wait for fresh, hot food - but there was another table by us that kicked up such a fuss they actually reduced a member of staff to tears. The staff were very polite, friendly and professional. Onto the food… I had Beef, and my partner had Turkey. The beef was lovely and tender, the fresh vegetables were tasty - especially the Carrots which had been honey roasted! The gravy is to die for. Honestly I could drink it 🤣 The last time we came, a few months ago, we noticed the decor was a little tired - but it has since been freshened and brightened up.

Appalling service, staff obviously in need of retaining because they seemed to not know anything about what the job intails. Food was woeful at best( what was left), would be a idea if there wasn't enough food,then to pay customers a courtesy by informing that to there wasn't much that didn't warrant charging for. Will not be returning.😡

Both My Wife and I stopped at The Cottage for an Impromptu Wedding Anniversary meal on a Wednesday lunchtime. My wife opted for the BBQ Hunters Chicken with Peas, chips, and Fresh Salad, and I opted for the Double Dipped Cajun Chicken with Peas, chips and crisp Fresh Salad with added Peppers. Served in a very timely manner the food was piping hot and plentiful. Both meals were succulent and extremely tasty. Staff were courteous and polite We opted for Chocolate Fudge Cake and ice cream and Sticky Toffee Pudding and Custard for afters. And the whole meal came in UNDER £30.00 Amazing Place Amazing Food Well done to you all

Uber order. Turkey carvery. Roast potatoes, old, burnt, no potato inside they were very old, felt like chewing hard rubber. carrots sent but not ordered. Turkey spot on, food was hot

Lunch is reasonable with plenty of menu choice and my grandchildren ate for a £1...over the school holiday break.

Lovely freshly cooked Sunday breakfast. Staff really friendly and helpful. Will definitely return.

Visited on Saturday 23rd March. Staff were attentive, extremely friendly and welcoming. I don’t drink beer, but my husband was more than impressed with the selection of Ale they had on offer - he ended up having Bass, which he said was an excellent pint. On to the food - I had Cottage Pie, and he had Mixed Grill. The Cottage Pie was homemade, and a fantastic portion! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his Mixed Grill, he nearly eat the plate 🤣. The homemade chips were to die for Will definitely be paying another visit.

We went for a carvery last Sunday. The food was not very warm and dry. Meat was tough hard to cut and chew. Vegetables were not cooked and stalks left on. 3 weeks ago I nearly choked on a piece of beef. We are not going there again. Not recommended. Staff are ok.

I went here for a carvery with the family for Mothers day .The staff were great , very friendly & welcoming , the atmosphere was good, I enjoyed the music playing quietly in the background. We all had the carvery , it isn't self service, they ask you what you want. There was an excellent choice of meat and veg and there was a lot of food on the plate, you don't really need self service . All the food was great besides the cauliflower cheese, I think the chef needs to taste it themselves before giving it to customers to see if its something he would eat . I had Bread and Butter pudding after my lunch, I would highly recommend it , it was beautiful with plenty of custard. I had two cups of tea while I was there, I had to send the second cup back the cup was quite dirty, they changed it without a fuss. We were sat by the entrance as you walk in from the carpark, so we could see everyone running up and down the stairs, how those girls do that day in day out is beyond me , they must be as fit as a fiddle, I would imagine there's been a few falls with the kitchen being upstairs. It makes the entrance way very busy and I'd say quite a health & safety risk for customers and the staff -it felt a bit like a train station with people coming in and out and going up and down the stairs constantly. The pub definately needs a dumb waiter for the meals to save the staff running up and down all the time especially on celebration days like Mothers Day , everyone must be absolutely knackered at the end of the day . I think the price of the carvery was expensive even though I didn't pay for mine , it was almost £16 , which totally surprised me because there is nothing special about the pub that sets it apart from others, it's more expensive then a Toby and this pub is nowhere near the calibre of the Toby.

Staff were great, food was terrible! Cold food but a well done steak. Chef had the audacity to challenge my decision to complain about my “medium rare” steak. Cut it open in front of the server who immediately said it was well done in agreement with me. Won’t be coming back

Food was awful. I am not sure what has happened as we have eaten here many times and the food has been excellent but today, every single meal was awful. Over cooked food. Multiple hairs in multiple dishes. Lack of cutlery. The chef even came back out to argue the well done steak was medium rare. The lasagne was inedible and in my opion, historically it was one of the best dishes. It is a shame because we won't come back here now. The dog has got enough meat for the week with what was left on our plates!

AWFUL!!! I ordered a carvery the beef was very fatty, the broccoli and roast potatoes were still frozen, the Stuffing didn’t even look cooked. Instant mash potato and the cauliflower cheese looked vile and didn’t taste of anything.

I would rate this a 3 out of 10 when we arrived no one in we had to wait to be served as he was sorting out the fire witch was fine seemed perlite so waited for him to finish and the order was taken after the order was taken we sat down and had to wait again for the second drink so as we was waiting we looked at the menu picked what we what and then asked how long for the second drink we was then told I’ve just but it on and I had orthers to serve hmm bit rube but ok We then got our food witch was very salty not to my taste no one came to ask if all was ok no one at the far to order another drink once we had finished our food the lady came to clear the table but again no is all ok with your food she just picked up our plates and left wouldn’t be coming back

Proper home cooked food 😋 👌 delicious & great portions, most of the mains are around £11. Good alcohol free options, 0% gin, 0% Heineken & a fruit cider. We both had the steak & ale pie, loved it, chunky chips & meaty gravy, can't wait to go back & work my way through the menu 😂

Came here for a work trial, which went horribly. I didn’t receive any help or guidance, I was put on all floor jobs by myself. All I can say is the place is unhygienic and the workers are disrespectful. I witnessed the carvery workers spray disinfectant onto the food while joking around and they also pick up dirty cutlery and put it back into the carvery, so be careful eating here. The kitchen is grimy, dirty plates touching fresh meat. Toilets were dirty and flooded, customers complaining repeatedly but being rudely dismissed by workers - the whole pub is ran by teenage girls who don’t know what they’re doing. In the end, they didn’t inform me I didn’t receive the job had to find out from another worker. Very toxic workplace and even worse atmosphere and environment. Also would like to say I posted this review a couple weeks ago but got slandered in a group chat.. how unprofessional. Not only that.. I also got threatened with legal action and violence, this is not defamation, it’s liable and just the truth.

I am absolutely disgusted in the service I have received today, it was my birthday, I rang prior to ask if they did Gluten free gravy and I was told yes just when you pay tell the staff and they will do the gravy for you. I was rang on the morning to ask if I could go upstairs and I said no as I was not steady on my feet nor was my mom. I paid for my carvery and said about gluten free gravy and was told that’s ok I’ll sort it, after 2minutes I fetched my food after bringing it for the table I had staff come and say they hadn’t got gluten free gravy . After not eating my carvery without gravy or mint sauce (ran out) I went to see manager to complain and she went mad at me saying I shouldn’t speak to her staff like that which I didn’t, I was just saying you could of said you hadn’t got none when I paid or even said after I would of had something else. Then her boyfriend started having ago at me saying I shouted speak to her like that, I was so upset being my birthday being spoke to like that !!!! It’s disgusting service !!!!!

They advertise it as a Cravery but it isn't. The photos that are shown on Google are nothing like what you get. I had pork and turkey,the turkey was dry and not slices more like breadcrumbs. The person who was craving the meat through the rock hard Yorkshire pudding on your plate plus seasoning that wasn't cooked properly. You couldn't help yourself to vegetable you where served them. My husband only had one carrot which was the best part of the meal. Paid £34 for 2 carvery plus 2 drinks. What a waste of money.

A very nice Sunday roast in an old type pub with a log fire good beers and friendly staff , Well Done Brad the best young waiter so helpful , the beef pork and turkey is very tasty , the roast potatoes could have been little hotter , its fair to say. this is very good for families and young children are welcome , the car park can get full but there is street parking.

Lovely pub with great, helpful staff. Nice and warm with lit fire. Nice and cosy feel to the place. There were a few things not available on the menu and it appears they only have the carvery on Sundays now which is a shame. We asked for some loaded fries as a starter to share. They didn't have the ones we ordered so we had to swap to another... And instead of coming as a starter they came with our mains, and cold. Mains were ok. I asked to swap vegetables in my order but this was not done. I questioned but no offer to correct. The mixed grill was plentiful with their great home made chips, unfortunately the sausages were horrible. They seemed to have been reheated in a microwave, possibly more than once, couldn't eat them. Now we can't order on just eat from here from our address since a change in the app, we had looked forward to our visit. Shame it was disappointing. Ladies toilet was in a bit of a bad state, one toilet available, one out of order. Toilet seat broken and not fully attached, no sanitary bin, peeling wall coverings with rubbish stuffed into them and no light covering. Needs a bit of TLC.

I ordered from here on Uber eats as I’ve seen it a few times thought I’d give it a try, as you can see Cajun chicken burger is cremated, it was rock hard, no sauce or salad… I also paid extra for cheese and bacon which wasn’t added onto the burger either. Then I come to open the cheese burger loaded fries and the burger had a weird taste to it and there was no gherkins or onions on it, like it had all been thrown together and sent, and to top it all off all stone cold. Heard good things but never again, I would be embarrassed to even send this out if I was a chef.

Got food poisoning from here and have since found out all the food is frozen, all desserts, not homemade at all. Complete lies. REPLY- Hardly a "false" profile but OK if that makes you feel better.

Food was class but the atmosphere wasn’t, screaming kids left and right, kids on a karaoke singing and screaming. Slow service and having to grab peoples attention at the bar to get a pint.

We've eaten here a few times recently. Lovely home cooked food. The chips are amazing, real home cooked chips! A good selection of real ales. Nice cosy pub and dog friendly which is great!

Disappointed and won't be returning, customer service was shocking.

I had both a breakfast and a carvery meal today from The Cottage. The carvery was amazing. Fresh vegetables, plenty of meat, nice selection, proper home made feel to this meal. Uber delivered and it was warm, well packed. Fully recommend this, looking forward to a visit to the pub

A party of us went tonight 9th Dec 23 to celebrate Robs birthday. The food was disgusting Fish like water chips cold, lasagna un-eatable. Toilets no paper in ladies, mens flooded. Will not go again. REPLYING TO THE OWNER I complained about the food as soon as I saw the waitress which was less than thev10 minutes you have stipulated. It is very rare I make a complaint but the food was nearly cold when the meal was brought back on the 2nd occasion it was hotter. To say it spoilt Robs birthday is putting it mildly and to put the record straight both my granddaughter and Rob didn't have there food brought to them. In the end when we arrived back at one of the homes food had to be ordered from a take away. I am not sure who made the comment about getting more refunds but as a party it was the minority who's money was refunded not the majority. In fact 2 meals that weren't served and I think 2 that couldn't be eaten.

Baguette meals good value and tasty. We had the beef, pork and turkey. Not very busy for first week of December which was a surprise, as food was nice.

Just like to thank Sam and his team for helping to make our daughters 50th birthday surprise party such a success, from the day we popped in his pub to see if we could get a booking he went out of his way to make sure that everything went to plan. All the guest said the food was amazing (thank you Julie) could not ask for more a great time was had by all. Many thanks again Sam and team for making last Saturday night a night to remember can’t recommend you enough brilliant job.

Staff where ok, the place was tired could do with decorating. The food tasted ok but the turkey was hacked instead of carved, so instead of slices of turkey we had lumps instead!! I thought a carvery was that a carvery! Where the meat is served and you help yourself to the potatoes and vegetables. Here it is all plonked on the plate in what can only be described as a mess! Also they put the food on the plate before you can answer if you want it or not. In my opinion not what a carvery should be and won't be going again.

Appears to be going downhill......the beers are stale or tasting very off.......the staff member who served me as family members in, who appear to be their priority over members of the public.....needs to change

What a lovely home cooked Sunday dinner with me not having to cook 🤗 All the staff were lovely and very accommodating as we were awkward and wanted to move table. I was a little devious about going here due to few negative reviews but please ignore… they’re always a Karen. We’re going back and that’s says it all. Ps. My only criticism, more red wine choice especially with lovely food you serve

Food was awful we all left it. Seats and floors filthy, old & worn. They sat us next to toilets. I am not sure what all the good reviews are eating normally to rate this place as ok. Maybe we had a one off bad meal. ? Never to return. Everyone’s standards are different I guess.

Nipped in for some breakfast and it was amazing, staff couldn't been more helpful, polite and friendly. Quick service, food was brought out and tasted fresh. Simply amazing. Had a carvery delivered through just eat, and that was simply amazing too. Hats off to the chefs and staff. Would recommend to anyone and everyone!!

I have ordered food from here via Just Eat and it was delicious, I really can't complain about that. So we decided to try the eat in option, what a disappointing experience it was, we were shoved upstairs in the most dirty and dingiest of corners, the carpet was disgusting, I'm sure there must have been a pattern under the filth somewhere. The attitude of some of the staff was appalling very unhelpful and rude about a member of our group. Also I am disabled and when questioned if we could sit downstairs as I struggle to climb stairs, I was told it was upstairs or nothing. We left without ordering it was so bad and will not be returning anytime soon!

Had breakfast the this morning was fantastic, huge breakfast for £5.95 although they do smaller ones at £4.95 plus sandwiches and baguettes too. Can't be beaten really and lovely staff too.

Food was nice, however the atmosphere in the pub is a bit off putting. There is a musty smell, the carpets have seen better days.

Me and my wife Karen very much enjoyed our meal. We eat out in several places across the backcountry and my honest opinion is that the meal we had there (roast beef meal) was as good or actually better than any i can remember. The roast beef was perfection. Well done all the staff

Staff are very friendly! And are very young would like to see a dress code though since they was wearing what they like! Food was very disappointing, I had a carvery! The seats were filthy, the food was very awful ! Worst carvery ever! Some Vegetables was very nice and fresh. I was recommended to this place, and I don’t think I will go back! Very poor value, 10 pounds! I also ordered a squash drink, and it tasted like pure water hardly no squash! Not sure how you can get that wrong 🤨

Visited on a Sunday and had reserved a table.Carvery was low on everything we were told to sit down and somebody would come Over and tell us when it had been replenished, that didn’t happen so we went up again 20 minutes later and there were still no carrots or roast potatoes. We were told that it wasn’t the staffs fault that they had 100 orders to get out for Just Eat, with no apology offered I understand they would be busy as this was a Sunday, but to not cater for people who have reserved a table and concentrate more on online orders is just poor customer service. The food itself was average, meat was dry and lacked flavour. Would not recommend this venue for Sunday dinner as they are unable to cope with the volume of orders they accept.

The food here was absolutely amazing, proper home cooked food (including the unbelievable chips). Would HIGHLY recommend the salt & pepper chicken. We'll definitely be back again soon.
