Awful staff. Very rude. Food was worst quality I have had. Cheap processed food, not even warmed up. Still cold.

We enjoyed an evening meal here, we have visited this place over a number of years now and the food is still as lovely, hot and well presented. The staff are lovely and friendly. We'll worth a visit, we will continue to visit.

Very nice food, and friendly host.

Food was lovely, very tasty indeed, it was very busy but waitresses held their own. We had a barman who looked after us during our time here, what a asset he is, he made us (5women) feel relaxed, he was just an all round good barman. Would highly recommend 👌

Went for a Birthday meal, place was heaving, service wasn't compromised. Foods good, and red hot. What more do you want?

Earlier today, my husband and I went for lunch at the Black Horse, Illey. The food was tasty and hot. The lady who served at our table was very pleasant and helpful.

Good Food, cooked as requested, fair prices. Classic mixed grill excellent and tandoori chicken skewers.

Food was lovely and with 40% off mains you simply couldn’t beat the value for money. Nice pub in nice location

Great Food and Great service lovely atmosphere

Previously visiting the black horse in northfield and having a pleasent experience there, I was rather excited to try this Black horse, however I was VERY dissapointed by the lack of effort this restaurant has to offer. The enviroment was like no where I have ever been before, It was smelly, stinky, it quite frankly smelt like a SEWAGE. It was more so a pub than a place to eat, which I found highly suspicious, seeing so many advertisments outside the building of how lovley the food is there. The food was okay, but I couldnt fully enjoy it because I was pestered by a fly every 5 seconds. It put me off my food and the place all together, I will not be returning, and if you are hygienic you wouldnt too.

My family & I have been using the black horse for many years .. we have always received excellent service from staff & have never had a bad meal .. Being able to bring our dogs to the pub is another bonus which is why we keep coming back .. Thank you to all the staff

Cheap and cheerful, service quick and food just your normal pub grub, you used to get a small bit of salad with the starters but you don't anymore.

Lovely quiet place for a meal. The food was delicious and we had the best service. Our favourite place.

Absolutely love this place went this evening for a family meal all the staff are very welcoming and go the extra mile they helped me hide a birthday cake for my daughter and served it to the table with candles and sparklers that we had taken with us. Highly recommend the food and service big thank you to Kevin (who makes the best cappuccino ever ) and the rest of the staff

Great night even though the place was full to the brim , we came for a family birthday the team and management were excellent , curly dark haired man ensured we had a great visit , will definitely be returning

dinosaurs and dragons So sad have used the black horse for years but tonight 15 Oct 2024 the starter chicken nachos was cold and smelt like fish the steak had more fat than a fat bird in a cake shop the bottle of wine which to be fair they swopped for a new one was sour and gone off the windows are mouldy and rotten so sad Toilets were clean tho lol

I recently visited the Black Horse. The overall experience was underwhelming. First, most of the menu items were out of stock, and to make matters worse, there wasn't any flexibility to adjust or modify anything on the menu regarding dietary requirements or allergies. Adding to the disappointment, the staff believes it is ok to serve plastic sauce sachets directly on the top of the food ( good that the chips was cold 🥶🤦🤣 ) This felt so unhygienic and out of place. Between the limited choices and poor presentation the experience was far from enjoyable. I definitely won't be going back.

We had dinner completely out of the blue and was very pleased with the food and service. I had the buttermilk chicken burger and waffle for dessert and all was very nice.

Changed my review from 2 years ago...we have been back a few times since and has gone downhill each time to the extent that last time we went because relative had allergies we were made to feel we were back at school with attitude from manager...the meal they ordered was chicken skillet with veg the chicken was black...they replaced it without an apology only the waitress was apologetic...gave relative a free dessert but not what they ordered waiting ages for it also... menu has changed no sunday lunches presumably the cook has changed as they like to cremate everything unless they can microwave it.....the furnishings needs replacing the one ladies toilet was broken...such a shame as lovely setting and except for manager lovely staff could go into more depth but won't be back again in a hurry

Been coming here for years with the family, the food is good value for money and the pub itself is a relaxed atmosphere. Jem, Rhona and Jean are always welcoming and always have time to have a chat. Would recommend 🙂

Hubby booked table online. Came up from Gloucestershire to meet family. Table of 6. Ordered drinks at bar. Staff friendly and efficient. Sat and chatted then ordered via app. It's came out so quickly and was boiling hot! Looked and smelt amazing! As everyone tucked in, there was lots of smiling faces! Food was absolutely fantastic! We all had a lovely couple of hours. Shocked how reasonable the prices were. Food was great value. Thank you! 5⭐

We as a family are regular visitors to Black Horse Illey Lane... We are always made to feel welcome and even part of the family... Jackie and the team are fantastic. This is a pub that I wish I lived next door too. Fantastic County Pub feel with a family friendly atmosphere, food is always of good if not great standard.

We visited today for a family meal, the girls behind the bar and serving are so welcoming and friendly. Little funny banter behind the bar between the girls. After visiting The Elisabeth Arms in Bilston a few day's ago which is also part of the Sizzling group chain, the staff need to come here for some training on customer service. This country style pub is like a breath of fresh air! Friendly staff, Clean Premises, Excellent and well presented food. Would recommend and definitely return Soon, thanks everyone at The Black Horse Illey for making our Sunday Family meal a pleasure.

Was meant to be a nice lunch ended up with stale cold fries you can tell the oil needed changing in the fryer they tasted off and to top it off there was a hair on my steak- I did however get a refund for my lunch my partners was ‘edible’ I really wouldn’t recommend coming here I’ve noticed it’s been going down hill for a while I thought on the off chance I’d try it. Never again

My partner and myself have been going to the Black Horse twice a week for the last month had lovely food and fantastic staff We went today and sadly the food wasent the same my partner had Surf & Turf and i had Rib & Rump when ordering i was asked how i wanted the Steak cooked i said medium Rare on both sadley My Steak was more rare than medium and my Partners as she got to half of hers the blood ran out which made her fill off i informed a waitress who informed some one who offered us a sweet or drink i payed and we left

I ordered a well done steak, when it came it was black and smelt of fire, which I will not eat. My girlfriend went up to the bar and told them I won’t eat it and some lady with a bob and glasses decided to be rude and say “well she did ask for well done” and then I got given onion rings instead of egg so she mentioned that too and they just said “well I did say it was an hour wait.” I have panic attacks so I was not happy with my experience at all. Will probs not be coming here again

Walked in and straight back out the smell of dog wee was stomach turning .I understand dog friendly pubs but didn't want to sit n eat with the smell that hits u as soon as u walk in

As soon as i walked into the establishment the smell of the place wasn’t particularly pleasant (toilets are right by the entrance so perhaps this explains it) however we were able to move away from said smell on a table down the steps. I ordered a mega mixed grill, i ordered the steak medium rare but it came out medium well, not too much of an issue for myself but could be bothersome for other folks, Staff were pleasant and polite, the service could have been a little quicker but overall great! Prices are fair for the food and drink. 4/5

We had a Sunday dinner here and ordered sizzling with chicken and beef. The taste is ok and out of our expectation. The price is reasonable as well. We will come again as we live close. Good choice.

Good meal & service We had to pay extra for a slice of cheese for our son’s burger when we were told at the till it comes with cheese!! We had to pay £1.49 for a small jug of BBQ sauce .

The pub was extremely busy and there was not enough staff on. After being told our meals would take 45 mins they arrived after 1.5 hours which was not acceptable

Very helpful and friendly and allowed us to bring our puppy with us.

This review was based on 2 trips. I normally like a sizzling pub and the menu, but there are issues with the food every time I go, and it is the closest one to my house. I think it is just poorly managed to be honest not the cleanest either

Been in a few times, absolutely fantastic service!! Highly recommend I’m a really fussy eater and staff are always patient and accommodating, very clean and a great atmosphere staff check up to ensure your enjoying your meal and there is no problems and always seeing staff keeping the place clean and hygienic, Jemma is an absolute darling and brightens the place up with her friendly smile and approachable appearance, lovely manager Jackie always ensuring customers are happy with their experience, wish I could put all staffs names down they are all amazing. Will 100% be going back and can understand why this place is so popular with the public.

Impromptu visit for late Sunday lunch. The place was quite busy, plenty of cars on the car park but still quite a few tables free. Found a (dirty) table. Nice menu with plenty to chose from-nothing advertising a Sunday lunch though, Soft drinks were fine, although the glasses whilst probably not dirty looked like they were as the salts run out in the dishwasher by the looks of it. Bit of a free for all at the bar. The discount code for 20% off wouldn’t go through-it was manually put through but only took off 10% The food was just ok. It came quickly by pleasant staff. Although charging extra for bbq sauce is a new one. By ok it was just a bit dry and overcooked. So, the food did what it needed. We probably wouldn’t return.

The staff are absolutely lovely but the managers are terrible I asked for my steak mid-well done but it came black on the outside and raw in the middle, I always get steak here and it is normally really good so I don’t know what happened but I asked them to change because once seeing it raw in the middle it put me off and the manager said he couldn’t in a rude tone and all he could do was cook it more, it then came out black in the middle so I told them to take it back and the manager didn’t even apologise and when I asked for a refund he gave me less than what the meal cost!! Absolutely disgusted

In the last 10 days we have visited The Meadowlark, The Stag and three Horseshoes and today The Black Horse all part of the Sizzling group.. The quality of the service, and food Quality was outstanding at The Black Horse. Would like too to point out Jemma from taking our Drinks order and our food order, asking us did we want to upgrade and any extras on the meals. Also help with the APP for discounts to be added has i wasnt sure how they worked nothing was too much trouble. When the meals arrived everything was has we ordered and piping hot "Stag and Horseshoes" kitchen staff need to come here and learn from our experience last Monday. Nice food, a very busy pub Easter week so had to wait a while for the food to be served but to be expected on a busy food. Food was very nice , good value for money 👍
