Avoid if a cyclist - we were in today and observed a couple of cyclists walk in and were told the place was full when clearly there was an empty table right next to them. Another couple had followed them through the door and were stood behind the cyclist - they asked if there was a table free (no reservation) and were shown to the empty table! You could not make this up. The sandwiches were average. Good luck to this business with such prejudices to tourists.

Lovely welcome, owner very accommodating, moving a table so we had easier access. All staff made sure that everything was satisfactory. The food was lovely. Lots of gluten free on the menu. Salad even had apples and grapes in it. Pasty, hot and lots of filling. Latte coffees were lovely. The hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows were almost like a meal in themselves. The cakes and pies for desserts were to die for. (Think I need to go on a diet now!) All in all a fantastic place to go. We will definitely be back. Thank you. X

My wife and I along with our two children aged 6yrs and 18months decided to take a stroll in Budley. We were looking for somewhere to have a cream tea and found what we thought to be a nice little tea room. Upon entering we found the hospitality to be friendly and some what welcoming. After being seated we were given some menus to browse. Very traditional inside with China on show and netted table cloths. My son was playing with the sugar sachets balancing them on a wooden spoon that had our table number on it. I mean there was nothing really for children to look at or do. It seemed like one of those places where children aren't really welcome with many prohibitions signs around the premises. The lady who I presumed owned tea room came over to take our order, spotted my son was playing with the sachets took them off him and was just very over protective over a few sugars and sweetners. I think her words were(in quite an abrupt manner) "oh can we not" then she paused and just said "let's move them so your not tempted" she proceeded to move the bowl with the sachets over to where the cakes where. I can simply say I was ready to walk out at this point, however i didn't want to make a scene. This honestly made me feel like my children were dirty and didn't really want them to be there. We ordered two cream teas and two chocolate ice creams. The scones where very dry and fell to pieces which was very disappointing. As the lady moved our sugars away from us I had to get up and get some from the bowl. I understand this isn't the end of the world, however it was an inconvenience. A Welsh gent came out and his hospitality was welcoming, again nothing toward my children though. Unfortunately we felt as though we were on big brother with our every move watched. I wished we had visited another tea room within the town. The only pro I can think if is that is was relatively reasonably priced. Unfortunately we were disappointed with this visit.

Visited here for hot drinks and cakes, only because everywhere else was shut. Stereotypical English tea shop, with prompt and mainly friendly service.Ordered hot drinks, tea cakes and crumpets, all was fine except that after ordering a Flat White, what I was served was a White Americano. Didn’t make a fuss, enjoyed our refreshments and when I went to pay was asked if everything was ok, to which I agreed it was except that my drink wasn’t correct. The owner overheard me saying this to his staff and then proceeded to tell me that I was wrong, despite me trying to explain the technical differences. After failing to agree he told his staff to waive the charge for my coffee, which was nice but he still doesn’t recognise the difference.I suggest that he visit The Oak Barn to see that there is a difference and that he’s wrong.

We used to regularly visit the cosy teapot and always enjoyed the food and slightly eccentric surroundings. It appears the cafe is now under new ownership and unfortunately has gone rather down hill since our last visit. Some of our order was wrong and it took ages for the amended order to turn up (everyone else in our party had finished their food). When the order did turn up it was still wrong, at which point we were so hungry we ate it. The lovely doorstop bread is no longer. I wouldn't say the waitress was overly apologetic! A real shame, this place used to be great. There are better places to visit in Budleigh, we will be going elsewhere next time.

Spotted this venue whilst ambling down the main street of the seaside resort. On the way back we made a bee-line for the tea room for a snack which was enjoyed by all, wife, daughter and myself. The fruit scones were a nice size and beautifully cooked, which when presented with clotted cream and strawberry jam were just amazing. The Victoria sponge was also a good size and delectable judging from the demolition job done by my daughter. The pots of tea were sizeable and contained far more than we could drink. The selection of cakes on view was good and the menu adequate for our needs.

Came here for a breakfast last week whilst we were in the area. We walked in and received a bit of a strange welcome... said we would like some breakfast but we were met with a bit of a stare until we pressed to ask where we should sit and where were the menus etc... not a friendly “sure what can I get you”. We ordered two of the traditional breakfasts which were 6.95. I asked for my one to be a gluten free version and was told that was fine but I couldn’t have the sausages (so I asked for extra bacon instead). Breakfast didn’t take long to arrive but was clearly cooked fresh. We thought it was a bit strange that the fry up didn’t have any mushrooms with it! Could have also done with a hash brown or some fried potatoes.... anyway... not bad!

The Cosy Tea Pot promises a lot - looks like a traditional tea room and offers a variety of 'cream' teas. We ordered 4 teas across 3 varieties on offer. All came with what can only be described as mini scones and mini portions. It was like something out of Gulliver s Travels. Smallest portions on a cream tea I have ever experienced even the tea pot for 4 only just got 4 mini cups full. We had to ask for extra hot water simply to make up 4 cups. Disappointed.

A lovely day out in Budleigh first to the Museum to see the painting be Millais “The Boyhood of Raleigh” and then a wonderful afternoon cream tea. What a charming little tea rooms, lovely sandwiches followed by a delicious cream scone and dainty cakes. All served in the best China. A tasty cup of tea with plenty of top ups.

We have visited this cafe often for tea, cake, crumpets, scones- not all at the same time but always fresh and served with a smile and on lovely old china.

We have visited the Cosy Teapot many times and always look forward to returning. We called in for lunch and was immediately met with happy staff. We ordered and the food did not take long to come. As before the food was exceptionally good and portions were good. We also tried one of the chocolate scones with the Morello cherry - absolutely to die for. Cannot praise this restaurant enough.

My wife and I have various food allergies, so it was so good to be told that they can adapt the meals to meet our needs. And they did, GF, veg instead of potatoes, you name it, it was done. The food itself was excellent, all four of us had brilliant meals. Well worth a visit

We enjoyed our night at this well run, clean and friendly hotel. The three course evening meal was freshly prepared and delicious. Our room was spotless and well presented. We both are surprised this is only a two star rated hotel, as our experience exceeded many four stars we’ve stayed in. Our breakfast was again delicious. The staff are all attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. It has ample parking and a beautiful rear garden with seating. If we are in the region again, we would wholeheartedly head for The Tumbling Weir, Thank~you

Great venue for lunch, always busy, good food at reasonable prices. Until today, prices have risen, the place was half empty, the food still good but not exceptional so why the price hike? My breaded plaice with chips, peas and tartare sauce was £16.99! It was nice enough, not outstanding and available elsewhere in Sidmouth for a lot less. If they want more profit and less customers I think this approach will work, we will think twice before returning as there are many other places to eat locally that offer better value for similar food.

Staying in the local area we decided to meet up with other family members for an evening meal and catch-up. Knowing this pub does food from Wednesday through to Sunday lunchtime decided this would be a good place to visit. We booked and arrived just on opening time and was met with a very welcoming greeting by the bar person. Once we placed our order, in a very short space of time the starter course arrived, and on completion of this and table cleared, again the main meals arrived well presented and hot. The pricing was well within most budgets and with the specials board there is a good variety to choose from concidering the size of the village. Definitely on future visits this is a place on the list for food.
