After having a lovely few hours in Lacock we started looking for a place to have lunch. Red Lion was full with a long wait for tables so we tried Carpenters Arms which was closed. Reluctantly we tried this cafe. I put my mask on and walked in an an elderly gentleman without any form of greeting barked at me “do you have masks?!”. I explained that while I had one on, the kids didn’t have them and my sister-in-law did not have one but had a scarf she could cover her nose and mouth with. He barked again “it’s not the same as a mask is it, we’ve had a death in Lacock!!!!”. By then my S-I-L had found a mask but I was so disgusted I told him that his manner left a lot to be desired and that I wouldn’t be spoken to like that. Thanked him for his warm welcome and left. What a vile horrible man and reading some other reviews, it seems he’s there often. Avoid avoid avoid!

Rude rude owner. The cafe was dusty and dirty don't go, cake was dry. Being polite costs nothing....disappointed

We were dubious about this cafe as soon as we walked in but it was pouring with rain so decided to stay despite the less than friendly welcome We had sandwiches and tea which was fine but the place looked as if it could do with a good clean We paid the bill and left , as it was still raining hard one of our party left to fetch the car while we sheltered under a cover just outside Another couple turned up & we politely moved to one side so they could enter To our surprise an elderly gentleman( Frank?) came out of the cafe cursing and saying we were losing him customers by sheltering on his land We explained we had just eaten there but he just shouted at us and called my brother a stupid old man Unfortunately this man is a disgrace to Lacock and I would strongly suggest you should avoid this place at all costs

So, we arrived in Lacock today around 1:30pm and were looking around for somewhere for lunch. We have been to King John’s hunting lodge previously which was excellent, but was unfortunately closed. We found this place and put our masks on to enter. The man running the place took one look at us and said “I’ve only got tables of 4 available”. There were 6 of us. I asked if we could sit 4 on one table and 2 on another. He looked at me as if I’d suggested we dine on the roof. He then said “ Don’t look at me like that - bloody idiot”. We all backed away slowly. It’s clear the poor man is unhinged. The Red Lion was great 😀.

I wish we had read the reports of other people carefully before we ordered a tea and a coffee. My coffee served was very strong, and very little milk served to add to taste. The cold milk doubled up with that served to accompany the tea ordered. The pot of tea was equally very strong. We would normally ask for some hot water to weaken the tea, again to add to taste. A small jug (similar in size to the milk jug) of hot water was reluctantly provided. Requesting a further small jug led to the response that we would have to be charged for this extra measure of hot water. 15p turned out to be charge which we paid with some amazement. These are the facts. You must choose whether you might enjoy going to this café.

We went there today for a coffee, the lady took us too a table and gave us the menus. Then she totally ignored us and seated another 2 ladies and offered to serve them first, still totally ignoring us, I twice tried to attract her attention, so we got up and left. That is no way to treat any customers in this climate. Sadly I have read so many bad reviews about this place since, so definitely a place to avoid.

As a local, I was shocked and embarrassed that the beautiful village of Laycock is being besmirched by such unfriendly and unpleasant service. I went to look on Tripadvisor once I was home as I couldn't quite believe how the elderly gentleman behaved and wondered if it was a one off. Seeing the comments already written only confirmed how dreadful the Cornerstone Cafe is. The man was rude and aggressive and although there appeared to be lots of safety measures in place, he mostly had his nose out of his mask whilst almost shouting at customers to follow the guidelines. People were complaining at not having orders taken and food was almost thrown on the table. In future I would recommend the lovely National Trust Barn or any one of the wonderful friendly pubs in the village. This man should stick to his antique selling rather than running a cafe.

The previous review entitled Horrendous Experience was written by my wife and I am the person who was threatened by the elderly man running the cafe. What my wife did not see was that when the man became aggressive and threatened me with his fist his visor ell off. He did not put it back on and his face was just inches from mine as he was shouting at me. Given the current situation with regard to Covid this action put me at considerable risk and was clearly a breach of good health and hygiene protocol. Not withstanding therefore the mans aggressive behaviour and his total lack of customer service understanding, his lack of concern about the risk of passing on the Covid virous makes me echo what my wife has said in that this cafe is a place to be avoided.

Just been thrown out of this cafe by a very aggressive employee / owner who threatened my husband with violence. We arrived at 3.10 and the door was open, there were no notices with instructions, we wore our masks and sanitized our hands before entering. A couple were just leaving so to give them plenty of space I entered the main part of the cafe and went to a clean table. My husband remained at the counter to get instructions about ordering. The man serving with a beard told my husband it was table service and my husband replied that he would go to the table and wait. The same man with the beard came to take the order and asked if we had filled in a form, we said no as we didn’t know where the forms were. My husband asked if there was a Track & Trace symbol but there wasn’t ,so the man went to get a form. On returning he asked us who had shown us to the table, my husband explained that he had just asked about service and was told to go and sit at the table. On entering there was no notice visible what to do and there was no one to show us to a table. It was at this point that the man started to get aggressive and told us to leave. As we left my husband asked for an explanation as to why we had been asked to leave, at which point the man pushed my husband and raised his fist threatening him. He then said to me didn’t you read the notice or can’t you read? I asked which notice he then closed the door and pointed to it. I tried to explain that the door had been open so the notice was not visible, he just screamed at me and said I was as bad as my husband. I just had to walk away as I was too upset to say anything else. We have never been treated in such an abusive way before and would advise people to avoid this cafe at all costs.

Visited with the family. Whilst they had good processes in place for the pandemic, their service was poor. Two other tables were seated after us but served before us. They took our order then had to return twice to say they didn't have things. My pastie was cold and had be returned. Crab cakes were good as were chips but everything was quite expensive. We also got charged for items we didn't get. Wouldn't recommend

£28 odd for 2 cafe meals and a pot of tea for 2,Ham, egg, chips - packet ham, cooked cheap frozen chips, eggs with no idea if free range etc.Spinach, cheese and potato pie (over microwaved - could only taste and see spinach and over/ under cooked pastry), gravy (pkt), 3 whole pots - fine- veg - heated frozen cabbage, carrot, cauli - fine. For the price it was awful, at 6.95 it would have been acceptable for veg option. The veg main was so over microwaved the pastry was too hard to cut through (by the time it cooled) and too hot to eat straight away... put lots of vinegar on to cool down and soften. Also put lots of pepper to season it all.The ham egg and chips would have been ok priced at £4.95.Tables dirty - cleaned off ourselves.Counter service but staff muddled with numbers.Tables & chairs comfy.Staff fine and friendly.Gents toilets filthy.Ladies - lovely lovely toilets and matching sinks (antique?), but all filthy (really poo up the sides etc ) terrible decoration all in need of a refurb. Yuck came out needing a wash of hands elsewhere.

We visited today for the second time ever. It was very busy due to Lacock having a fair on. The first time we visited we had 2 x chicken burgers to take away, about £4 each this time we stayed in to have them and paid about £11 each. The burgers are pretty appalling just reconstituted chicken and so for the extra £7 we got chips and salad. The salad came with one slice of cucumber! And one slice of tomato! Incredibly stingy. The manager/landlord was generally rude, I heard him argue with the people on the table next to us about a slice of bread. And he ignored a customer trying to talk to him.We come to Lacock every couple of months but we have decided never to visit The Carpenters arms again unfortunately.

After a beautiful walk around Lacock with some family, we decided to stop in this cafe for a refreshment and a sandwich. Upon arrival everything looked great until we were rudely told by the lady behind the bar that we must not move the tables. Eventually she let us sit at a ‘reserved’ table that was not actually ‘reserved’... interesting.During our (short) time there, we were unimpressed with the sheer lack of respect that both the barman and barlady had for us. Both were rude and disrespectful, showing absolutely no customer service. It was an awkward experience to say the least. However, I would like to the mention that the young girl who brought us our drinks certainly added a much happier and cheerful tone to our time. Perhaps some staff members should take a leap out of her book... as they say, business is tough (especially with other great places to compete with in this area e.g. The Red Lion).

The venti iced latte coffee was excellent here yesterday and the solo server was a cheerful and welcoming chap (somewhat surprisingly) as he is about to become unemployed as this branch is closing today. I heard him explain to customers that the landlord has increased the rent but the franchisee decided not to pay and pulled the plug. He was explaining this as I was negotiating reaching the counter through packed boxes of Starbucks inventory on the floor. packed up for removal so the cafe was soulless. As well as coffee I noticed they sold cheese bites. Now these aren't available in Northern Ireland so I asked for the cheese & ham to try them (they offer another type but I can't remember as I didn't want that one anyway) so I got the last portion £3.3. They are like mini omelettes enhanced with tasty cheese and they were pleasant enough but I won't buy any more - too pricy and not punchy tasting enough for a snack. We arrived in this town as a first. Never been before and as it's an ancient town we decided on it as a base to explore and to return to Avebury and Bath. The place is in a sorry state with lots of businesses shut and in terms of takeaway places most wanted cash. There no late night shopping either as at 6pm it largely shuts down. I noted that this area voted for Brexit and succeeded in contributing to make this country poorer. It's Tory controlled for now and maybe that won’t change. Like many English places we visited this trip it's not car friendly with double yellow lines everywhere so at least the road paint seller did well. Not one street had disabled parking space yellow lines for miles even into residential areas. There's little sign of any upturn here about, with mortgages going through the roof, thanks to an incompetent government that managed to squander about 80 billion pounds in about 40 hours which is an odd, very expensive thing for them to do, as their still lauded, former (now deceased) leader said in the 1980’s ya can’t buck the markets. She got that right. And as the folks of this town can see, they got what they voted for. It will always be thus. Bye bye Starbucks. Next....

I've got to be honest, the hot chocolate looked very very light in colour and tasted very very weak..... Sat in here almost on our own for 30 minutes before working out that we actually had to order at the table rather than having a waitress or waiter...... Let's be honest, they only have one thing to do. Serve coffee, ice cream and puddings. You would have thought they would have a more snappy service and a happy attitude at the till....... Answer bringing my hot chocolate to the table. It would slam down with such force that after the chocolate covered the table. See pictures...... I really couldn't recommend this place at all.

They do the best tasting drinks on the high street but sadly I cant go there anymore, almost every time I ask for soya milk they give me cows milk. I always have to stop them half way through to change the milk, and check with them at the end. Today I was too slow and they poured cows milk into my only travel mug. What if I was allergic?! What if I didn’t check every time? I’m vegan for ethical reasons and it upsets me that my mug has now contained cows milk. It wasn’t a busy time as I was the only customer at the counter. They need to take things like allergens much more seriously. Will not be coming back.

We popped into this cafe while visiting the National Trust site and ordered two jacket potatoes. We were disappointed when these arrived as the portion sizes were very small. This was surprising as they were £7 each. The cakes, however, were good though on the more expensive side.

Went in with a friend today around 25-30 minutes before the shop was due to close. Was met with death stares and dead pan faces, the customer service from the lady with short orange/red hair with glasses was awful! Just asked us “what did we want” and then continued to sweep and shut down the shop around us asking us to move out of the way a few times whilst she swept. However the other lady who made the shakes was nice and the shakes themselves were fantastic :)
