We have eaten here before when the meal was delayed but were assured that it was a one off. We bit the bullet today and revisited. We found a table near a window because it was a hot day. It was about one third full. The waitress came to our table and we ordered our drinks/food together. The drinks arrived promptly and we expected the food to arrive after 15 minutes ish. Half an hour passed and the waitress assured us that we were next. Three quarters of an hour elapsed, still no food. After 55 minutes, I had lost patience, so we paid for our drinks, left the pub and went to Wetherspoons. There, the food was served in 8 minutes ! I've no doubt that the food at the Crown is great but I would only recommend visiting if you are not hungry because by the time you get your food, you will be !

I have eaten breakfast twice at the Crown and enjoyed it. Last night went for dinner had the Crown Burger , it was lovely , the meal was hot and very tasty. My partner wanted the fish pie that he once ate there, unfortunately not on the menu last night. I have had the liver and bacon there before and it is to die for. I love their food the chef is brilliant she does a great job. We will be back. Especially for the fish pie and liver and bacon.

The food was not good, nearly all from a frozen bag I imagine, the quality of food was matched by quality of service by the staff, there was no draft beer available, and the choice of red wine was 'Take it or leave it'. The only positive was everything was clean.

The food was good, but the waiting time and service are not up to scrath. This is the 3rd (and last) time we use this place. Not busy but four of us waited 45 minutes for a main course, after which no-one ever appeared to ask if we would like dessert or coffee. Had to go and find someone in the bar and ask for attention. Getting extra drinks meant playing 'chase the staff member' Ok if you have plenty of time an maybe just want a snack or a main course, but if you have any further plans for the afternoon, best go elsewhere.

Feb '23. Family Saturday lunch. Drinks ordered & served within minutes then order taken by a very friendly & helpful young lady called Hannah. The meals arrived again very quickly considering it was the weekend. The restaurant filled up very fast & started to get a little noisy. Everything was nice & clean, very popular with families & had high rise chairs for toddlers. The food prices were very reasonable for Hailsham, generous portions too, no dessert though. Tables nicely spaced out for comfort. Beefburger was beautifully cooked, flame grilled & very tasty beef (I'm guessing about a 6oz patty). Will definitely return. Gets quite busy after 12.30 on a weekend. Top job The Crown 👑🙂

My grandparents booked a room here for their weekend away which they had saved for and were very much looking forward to. My grandfather booked the room over the telephone as does not use a computer and was not at any point made aware of the onsite night club. My grandparents had driven 120 miles and were very tired when they arrived. At check in they were asked to pay for the room up front which should have been a warning sign in itself! My grandmother commented that the room was clean however the incessant noise from the nightclub made it impossible for them to sleep meaning they drove a further 120 miles home at 10pm after putting up with the noise for three hours. This ruined their entire weekend and when my grandfather called the next day to complain he was simply told "well we are a nightclub too"....just a shame this wasn't mentioned at the time of booking, or check in when they were all too happy to take my grandparents cash.

We wanted to visit family in Eastbourne weekend of Saturday, 13th August to Sunday, 14th August. We didn't realise there was an air show at that time and consequently we couldn't find any reasonably-priced accommodation within the Eastbourne area. We fruitlessly searched most hotel sites on the Internet when, suddenly, up popped one last room at The Corn Exchange in Hailsham. An old inn with not much external appeal but, what a surprise when we were shown to our room, it was lovely. Spotlessly clean and bright, with an en-suite. It was reasonable and breakfast was available if required. 20 minutes from the centre of Eastbourne, it was ideal. Hope to stay there again.

We have been to the Corn Exchange before but not for a while - it changed hands 2 years ago apparently. It was my father's birthday treat. He was pleased with his choice of prawn cocktail and roast beef, and I chose prawn cocktail and omelette (spelt ommelette on the board) - oap specials at £6.95, mine ordered without mayonnaise and salad dressing after I explained to the waitress that I was on a diet - a concept she found difficult to grasp. First course was fine, it's hard to spoil a few prawns, thick slices of onion and bread and butter (although I noticed that my father's mayonnaise was bright orange!). We then waited over 40 minutes for the next course. When it arrived I was worried - the roast beef was just thrown on the plate, paltry, uncaring. But mine was a disgrace! A thin shrivelled, rubbery, omelette floating in oil and a few veg and chunks of tomato with oil to match! I didn't want to upset my father by complaining or have to wait a further 40 minutes for something better, so I used 5 paper serviettes to soak up the oil slick and blot the horrible egg thing. A gloom defended on our meal. I ate what I could but it was miserable and I gave up. I couldn't wait to leave. It was painful to pay good money for such a bad meal. I told the waitress how we felt and she told me that that was how you cooked an omelette. Not so, I could have had better in a 'greasy spoon'! I asked if it was the chef's day off - the only possible excuse - and she said 'No', although we had seen a bloke from the kitchen doing other tasks as well. There were only 2 other customers. I should have sent my plate back, I regret that I did not. I will not go again and other people should be warned.

This pub just down the road from our home has had some bad publicity recently which is uncalled for in our opinion. The new owners seem to have made a go of the place and the two meals for £10 offer is a favourite. They also have other weekly offers to help out in these fiscally challenging times. We use this as a meeting place sometimes for friends and acquaintances either lunchtime or evenings. The menu choice is excellent and the food very good. Also lots of choices of drinks. The restaurant and bar area is bright, modern and welcoming and you can sit and have a coffee on the comfortable sofa in the bar or have a meal in the adjoining restaurant. We stayed here on a saturday evening when passing through town via Brighton. We were very well welcomed by the landlady upon arrival and shown to our room. We found our room to be very clean, comfortable and had nice bathroom. There is good water pressure in shower. There is a night club at the back of the building which is also ran by the incredibly busy landlord. You can hear it rumble in the distance and did not bother us. The guest rooms are sensibly located above front bar and kitchen which are shut at 11pm so are quite. We ate in the pub and thought food was very reasonably priced and well prepared. There is plenty of choice on the menu. My girlfriend and I ate a three course meal each plus a bottle of wine and a few pints for under £25. The next morning we had a fantastic fry up cooked by landlord with yummy barista coffee.

Staff helped with detailing dishes and knew their stuff. Couldn't fault and have already suggested a visit to friends. My partner and I visited the corn exchange (23/2/2013). we hadn't read any T.A. reviews, before visiting. Quite frankly we are somewhat surprised by the negative opinions of some of these reviews. We both thought that the bar areas were very well kept and the food and service were excellent. Dwayne and Hazel (landlord/lady) were very friendly and helpful as were all the staff, even though it was quite busy while we were there. We did learn from some of the 'regulars' that they had only been there about 3 months, and things had changed for the better since they (D & H) had been there. We didn't stay in the hotel over night so we can't comment on the rooms etc, but all in all we had a very enjoyable afternoon. Thoroughly recomended.

The other reviews say it all. Don't. Just don't bother. Sad to say this. Interestingly, in a twist, the best B&B; is almost directly across the street from this place. But this one's a real disappointment.

I am a very awkward diner. I have a very limited diet due to medical conditions and I have booked in for a meal during the Christmas period. The manager has bent over backwards to make sure that they have the correct food for me, that it is cooked in the way I need and that they can make sure I can have the full three course meal with my friends. I can also not drink alcohol and they have made sure that I don't get left out there either.

Chef was slouching at the bar until we ordered, making us feel like we were puting him out his way.
