The pub owner is a craft gins wizard. If you like gins and are in the west country, then this an experience you don't want to miss! Hands down, his gin is by far the best I've ever tasted.

We found this place after a day exploring Exmoor and were absolutely thrilled! The restaurant was cosy and clean making us feel very comfortable after our exertions. We received a warm welcome and service was great throughout our visit. We all had Roasts with different meats. Every meal was delicious and cooked perfectly. The dessert menu was limited but the Brownie was recieved very well and the selection of ice creams was amazing. We'll definitely visit again if we travel back that way.

We visited on valentines night for a meal. We are from the set menu. A nice welcome and when we were shown to our table we were provided with a taster plate from the chief with homemade vegetable crisps, humus and sundried tomatoes. We were also given a bottle of Prosecco. A nice touch. We had the pork cheek and broccoli in tempura batter. Both very nice. I have the sea bass with crayfish mash as a main which was excellent, a very very good plate of food indeed and Jules had the steak. We both had the passion fruit creme brûlée’s as a sweet. Not sure what I expected but it was very nice. The wine menu was very good and I also had a pint of Guinness which was also very good. Would highly recommend and we intend to revisit soon.

We decided to take a New Year's Day walk across the fields & drop in for a lunchtime drink. Having lived locally for the past 3 years we have often wished for a good pub within walking distance & today we found it in The Copper Key Inn! Our party of 4 adults & 3 kids were made very welcome by Meg & the service was great. The pub has been under new ownership for the last 3 months & has a lovely interior, warm & inviting with lots of character & plenty of seating. There was a special brunch menu on offer for New Year's Day &, although we hadn't planned on eating, we were tempted & ordered! The food arrived promptly & was delicious. The steak sandwich was outstanding, cooked to perfection & overflowing, chips melt-in-the mouth, leek & potato soup was stunning & everything freshly cooked. We were thrilled to make this new 'find' & our next visit is already planned.

We visited here for lunch, there were just a few people at the bar. We both had steak which was really tasty when it finally arrived but it took over 45 minutes to arrive!. As we had sat there for so long we naturally started to look around us after general conversation and started noticing cobwebs and dust, it is a nice little pub but could do with some good cleaning. The toilets were clean though. It would appear the barman doubles up as a chef as he went off from the bar to the kitchen to cook in his football top and shorts then a female came in and took over the bar. The people sat at the bar were quite loud talking with the bar staff and there was often swearing which was not curbed so we wouldn't have been pleased had we been in with the children. We did not stay for a dessert as the main meal had taken so long but it was worth it when it arrived.

Went to the opening day today with my husband. The landlady & landlord are new to the pub trade but he is an experienced chef. Lovely quaint old pub with masses of potential. Complimentary food today was curry & rice: both the madras & the korma were to die for so it all looks very promising for food. Once they've got used to the pub itself, I'm sure they will do really well & I know that we are certainly planning on going back. Well done Louise & Dan!! Good luck x

having won a sunday lunch voucher for two , a friend and myself went to the above , a pub/inn/ I have not entered in 30 + years the other w/e . of course it had changed from what I remembered but the atmosphere was still there with the addition of the carvery . the beer was of good quality and the house merlot was quite acceptable , the prize though went to a superb rib of beef cooked to perfection and a variety of roast veg's served piping hot , its one of the best roast meals I have had in quite a while . there was a selection of sweets available but neither of us were able for them. the fact that we , both having been in the meat trade were talking of the quality of the beef says something . there was other meats available at this carvery and all looked of the highest quality and well cooked . I have no hesitation in saying to anyone who likes a top rate sunday lunch , head to the copper key . i'm there next week !

I went on the off chance my family wanted a pub meal. The staff were welcoming, and two of us had the carvery. The third was a vegetarian and some pubs find it hard to cater for a vegetarian, but the Copper Key was very good about it. When we arrived, a little late, there were plenty of customers. We did not have to wait too long for service and the chef had been on a break but came off to serve us. The atmosphere was good, and the price was about right.

Definitely a pub that does food rather than a foody pub and that's no bad thing! Popped in for an evening bite to eat wit the family. Very friendly staff and the locals appeared to be having a jolly old time. Bit of a jam around the bar mind which meant getting drinks was a tad tricky! Food was fine - I had a chicken and mushroom pie with chips, all of which was properly home made and really taste. Not at all expensive. Beer was good. They had 2 ales on, Topsail in perfect condition. Not been to the other pubs in North Tawton, so can't compare, but this one wasn't half bad!

I visited the pub in September 2014 following a game of football in the same village. We were provided homemade burgers with wedges which I must say were excellent. You can tell the burgers were not of a frozen variety and packed with lovely peppery flavours. To drink I had a "Lighterman" ale which was perfectly clear so no problems there. The pub also offered free high speed wifi and live sports on TV (premiership rugby at the time of visit). My only criticism we weren't made to feel overly welcome by the staff at the time of my visit. But we were served our drinks and our food without having to wait so can't fault that. From reading the other reviews here it seems like the service can be a bit hit and miss so it's something to consider.

we went here by chance to have a meal on Saturday evening over the Bank Holiday weekend. Was very quiet with just a couple of tables with people eating. we got our drinks then ordered our meals. 3 sirloins and 1 gammon. so far so good. After a few minutes we were told that there was only one sirloin steak left so 2 of us said we would have rump steak. After 15 minutes or so we were then told that there was no gammons left either. yes it took them 15 mins to tell us that. so we said to have another rump. Then who we can only assume the landlady arrived to say sorry for this and offered us all another drink on the house. Before our meals arrived a young girl went into the kitchen and then came to ask if we would like any sauces etc. we did ask for steak knives too. well she was about 14 years old wearing jeans a tee shirt and a hoodie tied around her waist. A bit off putting to say the least for serving tables. (I think she had come in to see her mother who was doing the cooking) We waited a little while longer before our meals arrived. One of the steaks had to be returned to the kitchen as it was very rare and not what we asked for. I will say the meals were all very tasty though. We could not understand why on a Saturday evening they were not prepared for people to arrive without a booking. Thinking about it I supposed the fact that there was only a couple of tables being used should have told us that it was not going to be good. On looking around there was a lot of dust & cobwebs in the restaurant. The windows were filthy and I don't think the blinds behind the carvery area had seen a clean since they had been put up. All the time we were there we could see the place is not looked after. We will not be going there again.

First of all, ignore all bad comments on here -the pub came into new management a couple of months ago so starting afresh now. The landlord seems really friendly and it seems to have a really nice feel about the place. There are loads of great drinks behind the bar and everything here where possible is local, from the local ales and ciders, and meat from the local butcher and ice-cream from a nearby farm. I'd highly recommend the loin of pork - it was so tender. I'd definitely recommend the fruit crumble - I don't normally have a dessert, but so glad I did!!

Great place to grab a nice meal & pint!Very friendly staff who looked after us well; we visited during a very busy time however the staff took the time and effort to make sure our visit was enjoyable and it was.A large selection of drinks in the bar with a good choice food on the menu. I went for '10oz Rump Steak with all the trimmings' the food arrived hot and well presented with homemade onion rings, side salad and a fair portion of chips - the steak seemed bigger that a 10oz it was perfectly cooked just as I asked but the taste was fantastic - the best tasting steak I have had for many years. Our service was timely as we didn't have to wait too long for our food but I did hear other guests saying they had to wait a long time an hour + when two large groups of people have all ordered their food at the same time but if their meal was a nice as mine it was worth the wait.

We joined friends for a meal here, and weren't disappointed, good quality pub food, plentiful portions, well presented and great beer. Our friends told us the cheeseboard was a good alternative to a sweet, so we shared one, and it was superb. There is a Cheese Factory in North Tawton, close by, so many of the cheeses are presumably local. The cheese board offered a great range of cheese, nice crackers, with fruit, an excellent end of the meal.Worthwhile stopping by for a pub meal if out in this direction.

Sometimes I visit restaurants and want to write a review on Tripadvisor, but find I cannot because the place isn't listed. This time I wanted to write a review so much that I asked for this place to be listed. Hubby and I were driving through the village and feeling a bit lunchtime-ish so stopped here. He had steak and chips and I had the Brie and roasted veg tart. We were absolutely blown away by the quality of the food. Whoever works in this kitchen really knows what they are doing. The portion sizes were good, there were lots of extras with the steak, the side salad, which in some places is really no more than plate decoration, was fresh and yummy. And it was incredibly good value for money. Well worth a detour if you are anywhere in the area.
