The Constant Service in Brighton and Hove

After a rough period, losing the previous pie maestro, The Constant has had a decent makeover and is currently doing a decent midweek pizza menu and offering footy again in a friendly chilled atmosphere with excellent coffee and Harvey's as ever.

Pleasant pub with two well kept cask ales on tap when I visited.

So much better now it’s under new management! So much cleaner and a better atmosphere, stella on tap which is amazing and rare for Brighton ! Always shows the football and nice garden, not too expensive either, shame they got rid of the record player tho. Guy behind the bar was friendly too

First time visiting since under new management, love the feel of the pub! Felt so comfortable there and well looked after. The space is bright and nice to be in. Stayed for food which was really fantastic. Especially the affogatto desert! I had the homemade vegan ice cream which was impressive. Will definitely be returning!

Came across this pub by chance and its become my local. Alex, Liam and the other big guy always welcome you when you walk in the door. The best Harvey's bitter in town along with mother inlaw, Always a great atmosphere with a banging soundtrack in the background. Bonus is they show live sports on weekends. Pizzas are so good you would slap ya mum for one as they are so good.

It’s constantly just ok. The welcome wasn’t too friendly but they done a mean point of old ale or Harvey’s ordinary. In the background was some sport. Nothing you couldn’t get elsewhere but hey ho. Upon departure no thank you offered. Having been here over the years there’s much to like here. Today not so much. Tomorrow springs eternal. The 4/5 is heritage rather than incumbents. Must try harder.

Went to the acoustic night and had a great time. No entrance fee, nice choice of Harvey's beers and other beers if you fancy. 4 bands. All good

Great little pub with a nice atmosphere! Staff are lovely too. We went on their bangers and mash evening (not sure how regularly they do them) and we got dinner with a pint or glass of wine for a really good price. I’m veggie and was catered for too which is great. It was delicious! One of the group I was with was being a bit of a wind up merchant so I want to apologise on his behalf. I will definitely be returning and highly recommend.

Brilliant pub, friendly prices, not just a student dive. locals and staff are very friendly and chatty, feels safe for women, good for some sports viewing too and garden is cosy but well kept.

Took grandchild to music lesson and popped into this pub to get a cup of coffee ,whilst waiting for piano lesson to finished,but was told they do not serve it!! Went up the road to Islingword Inn who provided us with lovely coffee.

This pub is sooo laid back it is horizontal. Excellent Harvey's best bitter on draft and a sound system playing vinyl. If you forgot what that sounded like then visit !

This is a neighborhood pub that fits the neighborhood just right. Can't fault a thing. Great food and staff with friendly clientele. Vinyl playing when the sports bit on. Beer garden is a little piece of heaven.

What a pub! Honestly one of the best I’ve ever been to in brighton, and I’ve been to a fair few! Warm, cosy, welcoming- what more could one possibly want, or need? Pie night went down a damn treat. Flakey and delicious pastry, creamy chicken...the works! Would also like to extend a special thank you to Katie the barmaid for being so lovely and accommodating, she was honestly a ray of sunshine! We will be coming back soon, and that’s for sure.

Very nice atmosphere even though the music was too loud for my taste even though I appreciate that's very subjective. Food fairly mediocre. I had the fish platter and it's not something I would have again.

Great atmosphere and great Ales, cozy

A rather poor Sunday roast with inconsistent roast potatoes - mine were hard like dark brown pebbles. My daughter's were mushy. The nut roast portion was generous, but otherwise rather average. The cauliflower cheese was overcooked and with far too much mustard in the sauce. Being a Harvey's pub the range of vegan ale was very limited, and the others said the Harvey's was adequate. The TVs showing the Seagulls vs Leeds football match were a bit intrusive. Things didn't start well with a long wait for our booked table to be vacated. We should have ordered then - it was an hour before we got any food.

I love this pub. Friendly staff, good beers & nice environment. If you're in the area worth popping in for a pint

A really good .friendly ..pub..

Not been here much but always enjoyed the atmosphere when I do. Staff are friendly and chatty. The food is lush, and the portions are very generous. Try it for yourself you won't be disappointed.

We went for a Sunday roast, our first visit since restrictions were lifted, and were pleasantly surprised by the homely atmosphere despite the obvious precautions still in evidence within the establishment. The plates were pulled high with good quality food when they were brought to us at the table, you really get your money's worth here. The greens could have done with more cooking as they were a bit hard, but that could just be down to how some folks like them that way, but the potatoes were fantastic. Well worth a booking.

Being a witness of said Ketchup game I can confirm that the sauce spillage was unfortunate but amusing. To be asked to leave was a little harsh and ended a good night, however the saucy load was quiet substantial!!

It's a lovely community pub historically, but not what it used to be. Had a ketchup game, which was fun, but was asked to leave when it spilt on on my girlfriend, which is unfortunate.

Great pub, often with a classic record spinning on the back bar. However, they've stopped selling Dinkel Acker, so cannot get 5 stars now!

We went for a Sunday roast and were very disappointed. Big portions but also pricey. The gravy was a disaster, weird vinegary taste. Sad we couldn't finish our meals.

I was just visiting a friend who lives around the corner from this pub and it became my 'local' while I was there. Generally a local crowd which enhances the homely atmosphere. The décor is bright and uplifting and features local art. A nice food selection and a very nicely stocked bar. The owner and staff are very friendly and community oriented and they host good music nights. Excellent.

A little off the beaten track in deepest darkest Hanover. Nice place, bit quiet without the DJ on, bur if thats your thing you'll love it. Probably even more if you like second wave/2tone.

One of my preferred pubs in Brighton, one of few that have a good range of Harvey's beers outside of Lewes. Nice little place with character and friendly atmosphere. Almost like Lewes had been transported directly into Brighton.

I couldn't believe the value in their Pie and Pint deal. Totally yum and naughtily big portions of quality food. I wasn't a fan of pies but now I am. We sat outside and had a quiet fun time in a lovely friendly atmosphere. AAA pub grub. Having good friends to share with always helps but seriously good nosh and a pint/wine for just 10 quid is hard to beat.

Hands downs best sunday roast I've ever had. Portion are generous, so be prepared. Its definitely worth pre-booking cause it's in demand. Its has a cosy setting, and has wonderful friendly staff. This is a gem.

I pop along here reasonably regularly for the fabulous Sunday roast. Huge meal, a couple of decent pints and then down the hill to home and an afternoon nap. Sunday bliss.

Has the potential to get you caught up in excessive drinking with strangers.

Better be hungry. Portions are huge. Monday nights Pie and a Pint highly recommended.
